    Not sure if anyone has mentioned that this helmet has a lock feature ! Double click at the open position will lock in place and not fall down with the added weight of go pro , not sure if the op realised that either 👍🏻

    • @rayfriedman9625
      @rayfriedman9625 2 роки тому +10

      To clarify, I think you mean there are two detent levels (rather than a double-click) when opening the chin guard. Open it to the first detent as you generally would, and then push is back a little further (with more force) to engage the second detent (or lock as you've described it). You'll know you've engaged that second detent when you try to close the helmet back up again-- it requires a much firmer pull to disengage that "lock" position and return the chin guard to the fully closed position.

    I bought the same helmet and was really excited about the integrated SRL Sena, I spent the money. It SUCKS, Yea, I said it for ya, extremely disappointed in the technology, the speakers suck the connection sucks, I cant say enough bad things about it. Was happy to see you with the Cardo now, I am presently unboxing the Cardo pack talk bold and installing it. The helmet I have had since the day they came out...WOW...great helmet, My first modular and love it to death, more air now and then with it up, especially around town. Fits pretty tight at first but two weeks of break-in and it fits like a glove. YES it is much more quiet then most any helmet out there. Yes, expensive, yes well worth it. Thanks again.

    Very informative and thorough video! I have just bought a Neotec 2 today and fitted the Cardo Packtalk bold to it! I have to be honest I have owned a Shoei helmet before and without doubt it is the best fitting helmet on the market for me, so I wanted one again, however I was concerned about the fitting of the Cardo Packtalk to it and I wasn’t going to buy it until J&S Accessories in the UK convinced me otherwise! I bought it off them and they fitted it within 5 minutes in store! Great service! I have yet to wear it on a ride, but I don’t expect I will be disappointed!

    Good information for anyone in the market for a premium modular helmet. I am currently waiting for my new modular helmet and wanted share my thoughts to the discussed Shoei Neotec 2 and the Schuberth C4 Pro - the HJC RPHA 90S Carbon, which I hope to get in another day or 2.
    When researching, my criteria was foremost weight, knowing the hinge adds significant weight. Numerous riding buddies that own the Neotec 2 complained about neck pain on day-long rides and while the Schuberth C4 Pro is lighter (1,660 grams) than the Neotec 2 (1,700 grams), the RPHA 90S Carbon weighs only 1,305 grams - that's only 10 grams heavier than the AGV Sport Modular helmet, which is currently the lightest modular helmet, thanks to its carbon fiber shell, and another excellent choice.
    A quiet helmet was also something to consider and the HJC RPHA 90S Carbon is even quieter than the Schuberth C4 Pro - the most quiet. Finally, HJC RPHA 90 Carbon is $100 less and I paid $530 for a DOT certified helmet.
    Whichever you decide, you can't go wrong with either of the four helmets.
    Happy New Year and ride safe!

    I've had a Shark Evoline 2 for many years, and finally realized it was a size too small. I get serious pain in my forehead after just an hour. I was looking at the Neotec 2 at my local dealer and the XXL fit me perfectly. But that $799 price was brutal. I started looking around on the web, scouring daily for a good deal. I finally found an "open box" unit priced at $629, and they had a 10% off coupon making it $566. Since the dealer was out of state, there was no sales tax, and they're shipping it free. WHAT a BARGAIN! I can't wait to get it and add all my accessories. I feel like I got the best possible deal on a superb helmet.

    I was using a LS2 Valiant and just bought the Shoei Neotec II. I may miss the 180 degree open feature but the Shoei feels better on at this point. This is my first Shoei, I have been an HJC guy. • @GetOut-Ride
      @GetOut-Ride  6 днів тому

      @furr666 the Neotec is more comfortable (for me which is different for everyone) but the build quality is also definitively more solid along with controlling noise. It was worth it for me and how I ride but a helmet as expensive as the Neotec may not be worth it for everyone.

    I actually own both of the helmets mentioned, purchasing the LS to avoid the cost of the shoei, and then went back and purchased the neotech 2 as well after experiencing discomfort from glasses wearing with the ls..
    My feeling now is that, as much as the shoei cost, I didn't and wouldn't have known if I'd paid full price in the first place, but in hindsight, it would have saved me a fair amount of money had I purchased it straight away and not tried to save the money.
    Worth knowing, you can save a couple of hundred if you purchase it from a Spanish mail order company.
    Motocard being my favorite. Also chromeburner. No idea why, but the helmets are an absolute bargain.

    You open the chin bar until it stops as you demonstrated, but there is another stop after that that holds it open. Open it fully then push back again and it will go to the "lock" position - that way it will not close accidentally. Hope that helps someone when riding with it open.

    I'm using my second LS2 carbon Explorer, it's been a year. Never needed a helmet larger than XL. My LS2 is XXXL and still tight. Just barely enough room to fit a thin balaclava.
    The sun visor mechanism barely works, hasn't since new, on both of them. Still, the best helmet I've owned till now and I am now considering this helmet.
    I was not aware of the com mount adhesive, so I'll look into that. I had mine fall off the first helmet 3 x's while riding. I got a new com system (under warranty) with a hard mount that did finally got the helmet.
    Amazon replaced the first LS2 after a year for the fee of restocking.. no store can do that. I originally purchased at least five helmets to get the best size fit possible. No shipping fees either way. Hard to beat Amazon!

    This compares fairly equally with the Schuberth C4. The C4 is more "slippery" in the wind, when you turn your head the wind tugs less on the C4 than the N2. Quietness, quality, durability, and venting about the same. I very much prefer the Shoei Neotec 2 over the C4 though, due to several small design differences.

    Thanks great Real World helmet review. Like you I own a few helmets. An Arai RX -7 ( Which is now something to look at rather than wear because I prefer a modular helmet , A Schuberth C3 which even with a pin lock mists up terribly and this will take you back a Michael Rutter replica RF1000. And guess which is the most comfortable. Yep ! the RF1000. So now on the look out for a new helmet I am seriously looking to buy this one. I even once brought a Shoei X - Spirit 3 which was so comfortable but was made for riding a Sports Bike rather than my BMW GS so I returned it. Having experienced both Arai & Shoei helmets in my opinion Shoei beat Arai for quality as well. Just like over there in the States the multi coloured version is more expensive here in the UK , about £100 , but I just think its a price worth paying as they look so much better than a solid colour. Stay safe out there.

    Good review. I don't think you mentioned it but there's also a chin vent above the chin bar button to help keep the shield fog free and give some extra ventilation inside. I haven't installed the Pin Lock yet but I'll get around to it. I finally bought this helmet after almost a year of deciding. Love the extra protection vs my Shoei 3/4, the ability to lift the chin bar and take a drink of water, the built in sun visor and not having to wear sun glasses, and the extra weather protection. Good to know you can put the Cardo and GoPro mounts on it.

    I do own both Schubert C4 Pro Carbon and Shoei Neotec 2. They both have pluses and minuses, but overall I tend to like more the Shoei. Some end user personal opinions:
    - Shoei is better sound proofed, my C4 is whining and whispering when all air intake ports are closed, Shoei is better in this aspect;
    - Schubert has a better front air intake, you don't feel the cold air concentrated in one point, on the other hand Shoei will concentrate the cold air on the base of your nose;
    - Shoei has a easier to work with chin strap, while Schubert's should be better on paper, the plush ears under the strap are a pain in the ass to deal with, Shoei's is easier to work with;
    - Schubert has a better lower field of view, because of the nose protection, Shoei has a restricted lower field of view, so you have to lower you head more to see the speedometer;
    - Shoei seems more comfortable, while both are M size, Schubert is tighter and when closed is fixed on my chin. Shoei has more room on my chin (I have quite a beard and that helps...).

    I was a Shoei fanboy... Owned many of their helmets over the years. Also picked up a few ARAI's and even an LS... Read a ton of reviews when looking for the quietest helmet. Schuberth kept coming up... so I figured I'd try one. Last year at Bike Week I picked up a C3 Pro... I instantly could tell the difference in quality and lower wind noise at highway speeds. They invented the modular helmet, the retractable sun shades and the latch we love over the old D rings... I'm a fan. I still love me a nice Shoei, but I think I'm a Schuberth convert now.

    My wife and I both use Shoei RF1400’s in medium and ballast gray, that we bought last summer. I have a few videos showing me wearing it. Admittedly, they are the most comfortable lids we own, I also own a Sedici composite modular which unfortunately is a little too large and unusable. I have been seriously considering buying the Neotec 2 for use on long trips on my Wing. The now $750 price point causes me to pause, but I may go to a Cycle Gear and try one on and make a final decision at that point. (Note: if you’re a veteran, Cycle Gear usually offers 10% discounts including for Shoei helmets)
    On a side point: From my personal experience, Shoei does not make it easy to mount a comm device. I use a SENA 30K and had a hell of a time mounting it on the RF1400. Maybe it was because my helmet was new, but I had to force feed the mount between the shell and the padding. On the flip side, the speaker wells are deep enough to accommodate the SENA speakers which is nice.

    Tend to agree with nearly everything you mentioned, but think you gave Shoei a pass on the air vents. Referring mainly to the top vent, if it works at all, the effect is MINIMAL at best. I've ridden in temps up to 110 degrees down to the lower 70s this summer and cannot distinguish ANY difference between riding with the vents open or closed--regardless of speed. Maybe when things cool down around here (I live in Las Vegas) I'll notice colder air coming into that vent--we'll see. The lower vent (above the release button) does seem work *somewhat*. It doesn't seem to flow much air, but enough to help with fogging when riding in the rain. I say that because I haven't yet installed the Pin Lock (dumb name) but intend to, right after you post a How-To on that subject! Las point: the sound--I say it's noisy as hell. True, I often ride with the clear shield up (and the sun shield down) but when I've closed everything up tight, the difference in sound transmitted is minimal again. Not particularly a fan of the ratchet strap closure, but I'll live with it.

    Yep, Shoei is another league. Like you I do prefer quick release buckle. However, as Fortinine proved D buckle is by far the safest option of them all. I still remember when Marco Simoncelli lost his life in the Moto GP race, quite a few years ago and the force of impact of another bike to his upper body caused the helmet to be ripped off and strap to break.

    • @dh2392
      @dh2392 Рік тому +1

      I think many riders prefer the quick release buckles because if they use a double d ring helmet, they take the strap completely out of the double d rings, and this isn't necessary. You can loosen the strap to remove the helmet, or put the helmet on without ever taking the strap out of the d rings. You can find videos here on UA-cam showing the technique. Me personally, I hate the feel of a quick release buckle pushing against my throat, and double d rings are much stronger.

    • @MattLewis-qt2gb
      @MattLewis-qt2gb Рік тому

      If you watch the video of the accident, you will see the helmet rolling away with one, extremely long strap flopping as the helmet rolled. This is because the strap either broke at the attachment point with the helmet shell or was pulled loose from the shell at the same point. The d-rings had nothing to do with it. There has been considerable speculation that Simoncelli's considerable volume of hair compromised the optimum fit of the helmet. I myself prefer D rings, but I own a NeoTec II in spite of the strap fastening system.

    • @bikersquest
      @bikersquest Рік тому +3

      It's true d ring closure is most likely the securest (also my favourite) but I think in reality if your crash is bad enough to cause a metal quick release to fail chances of you making it out are slim regardless.

    Im using this helmet in a solid color for a year and a half now, cost arm and leg (you can buy a motorcycle for that money ;) I finally bought the SENA system on ebay - $70 bucks off original price but it's been well used before and I can not make it to work... finally order brand new one on amazon... for last 18 months I could not find any deal on those - $400 firm for a system which is known for hiccups. I wish Shoei would install this in the factory process with hiding and sealing all the wires plus module at this price range... for $700 helmet + $400 headset = $1100 + tax I feel like I shouldn't play with the cables myself...

I love how I have micro control of the tension and I trust the secure feeling so much better.. always a thought at the back of my noggin' with the ratchet.. minor complaint. I'm still going the Neotech. I am however very disappointed that there isn't a Sena 50s-ish integrated system.. I assume that something will show but maybe not in time for my needs.

    I'm considering a Neotec 2 for my next helmet. I currently have a C4 Pro, and love it, except for one thing - I do get a hot spot on my forehead after 60-90 minutes, and I know that Shoei's fit my head really well. The one thing that stops me is the Schuberth has much better peripheral vision, and I don't want to give that up.

    • @hiddendragon415
      @hiddendragon415 3 роки тому +1

      I have a C4 pro and really like the look, feel and vertical peripheral vision. What I don't like is the amount of air coming inside underneath creating wind noise. Guess it's my head shape. Something which wasn't a problem on my GT Air 1, that just had a dull rumble. I tried a GT Air 2 and that was noisy, go figure.. Also the limited shell sizes with Schuberth forced me to buy the largest, heaviest shell size. I think i will try a Neotec one day in the quest to find a quiet helmet or wait for the next gen Neotec , hopefully then they will have a central visor opener or one both sides.

      I had a compression spot on my C3 pro, and had forehead pain after an hour of riding. I remedied this by using the blunt handle end of a screwdriver to compress the styrofoam over the forehead- just move the padding, and patiently use the blunt/handle end of a screwdriver to compress the styrofoam- in my case, just a 1/8-1/4" of compression was enough to relieve the discomfort.

    One other thing to note about the pin lock system is that there was a disclaimer to not use after dark?? So beware if you ride after dark it is expected that you remove the pin lock thus eliminating the anti-fog benefit. The reasoning was it can create double imaging.

    I normally wear a large, but I have tried numerous Shoei helmets in large, and they have hurt my ears, and my jaw. Maybe I should have tried an XL. Large Arai's in contrast fit me great. My issue with modular helmets is the weight, often 4 pounds. I've been looking at the HJC 90S Carbon because it's lighter, and Champion helmets found it to be one of the quietest. I'm mainly interested in it for winter riding. I used to be a die hard full face wearer, then a modular helmet wearer, but I found both hot and stuffy on hot days, so I purchased a 3/4 helmet with face shield, with the intent of using it only for riding in the heat. Well, I got used to the more open feel, the lighter weight, and I just feel more connected to the ride in it. Now I don't have any desire to go back.

    Just bought the neo tec 2. First thing I noticed when riding was less vision because the chin bar came up higher.
    I personally think it's way overpriced.
    I was wearing a Nolan N104 for many years. And if the chin bar latch didn't break I would still prefer it over the new Shoei. I wear custom fitted ear plugs so a small amount of wind noise is not a problem.

    Really great review. Been looking at these for a bit now. A few questions. I have a LS2 and wear a large. What size do you wear in your LS2? And did you have to go up a size in your Shoei or wear the same as your LS2? And talk to me about your go pro mount/audio set up. I have a channel already but have been thinking about getting into motovlogging. Do you have a video on your setup? I have the GoPro 7 and 9 and the Rode Wireless Mic 2 currently.

    • @GetOut-Ride
      @GetOut-Ride  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback and I am an XL in both LS2 and Shoei. Other brands I can sometimes require an XXL but not in either of these. I do not yet have a video about my setup but in some of my other videos you can see my camera setup while on the bike. I use a GoPro 7 on my helmets and a Gopro 6 on the bars. I prefer my helmet camera mounted in front of the chin and use a Ulanzi cage to hold both the Gopro and it’s audio adapter to plug in the lav mic that I put inside the helmet. I love my Rode wireless but have never used it out on the bike. If you did not want to have a helmet mounted camera you could always use the wireless to connect to a bike mounted Gopro which I’m that case you would still want a wired lav mic plugged into the transmitter that can run up inside your helmet.

    I have the Shoei adventure helmet with PT Bold, and it fits like a glove(except speakers).I like everything about the helmet. I also have a Schuberth C3pro which is not the best fit for me, and pulls the hair at the top of my head. I bought a new Goldwing and have been trying to use the Shuberth but to no avail. After wearing my Shoei for the past 3 years, I’ve learned the difference between, it works well enough, and complete and total comfort. I’ve researched several less expensive helmets, but keep coming back to the Neotec 2. I liked your review, and tips. So to my question. Do the JBL speakers bother the fitment? The packtalk speakers sat on top of the cutouts more or less on my Shoei adv helmet. Took me awhile to get them to stop moving around when putting the helmet on and off. Also, a review of the helmet interior would be nice. Subscribed and thank you.

    • @GetOut-Ride
      @GetOut-Ride  4 роки тому

      Thank you for the info on the Schuberth, that is really helpful! As far as the PT Bold, the newer units with the 45mm JBL speakers does cause some minor issues because most helmet speaker pockets are made for 40mm speakers. In the Neotec 2 it does require taking and Xacto knife of something similar to just slightly trim the speaker pockets to fit. I have had to do that to every helmet I’ve installed them into but they are a perfect fit every time and have never been an issue after that. In the Neotec they are perfectly recessed and have not moved at all. If you have a PT Bold unit that came out prior to the JBL edition that still has the older 40mm speakers, no modifications are needed for a perfect fit.
