I dont think there is any kind of "shifting" ... I think that is a silly thing to say... It's not like they have 10 ppl where they would switch those 10 people to whatever they invest next... :P
They are trying to interface with most DCCs which is also good marketing for them and makes more ppl use UE4, which is beneficial for them. They got me already, I am learning UE4.
Also, if I am not mistaken, Epic also gave EpicMegaGrant to SideFX before, and HE for UE4 is trailing behind HE for Unity (Unity and SideFX are partners).
I just hope HE for UE4 gets better, compared to what Unity has.
Why would it sting having nodes in Blender? Coz Blender might compete with Houdini? I love it! Nodes in Blender and Houdini, count me in!
Its better for us devs. Be happy about it :) .

Giving mega grant and outright investing feels different to me. And about sting, it was related to my concern about Epic might stop caring about blender.
It’s a good thing others have a different idea on the subject of investment. I feel a bit foolish now but hey, it’s alright.

I don't think you should worry about Epic abandoning Blender coz they invested in SideFX :) .
SideFX itself is starting to focus a lot on Ease of Use and pushing Houdini into game development :) .
BTW I love your Houdini tutorials! Keep it up!

A lot of speculations. Bad informed and poorly reasoned assumptions. You should read more about their investments.

This is just my personal thoughts I had after reading this piece of news. If someone has more information on the subject, I’d love to know more. If this investment will make everything better for us creators, I’d be delighted.

9:00 those nodes inputs and outputs reminds me some yeti node graph look. Yeti is a grooming plugin for Maya, imho not very intuitive to work with compared to Houdini.

If we are talking pure aesthetics, the will look like native blender nodes. Think cycles or compositor view. It’s the routing that felt odd here and there for me.

I fear Epic ends up owning SideFX.

Don’t think they fully sell as long as cofounders are there to keep that.

@@AriseWorks As long as the co-founders have control over SideFX, hopefully you are right.

@@jonathanxdoe If they end up taking ownership of Houdini, Epic games could own two major parts of video game creation. They'd own Unreal Engine and Houdini for effects. Then the only technical aspect of game creation they might not own is Maya/Blender which won't be acquired anytime soon.
