A huge thanks to NordVPN for making this video possible. Check out their sweet deals at nordvpn.com/consolefix
hi my friend
xbox series s black. In short, I have such a problem. When I turn it on, it shows in 6 seconds. I opened it, took out the memory card, SSD. And it works for a few minutes and the ISK reader also works. I checked the hdm port, it's good, I also changed the power supply circuit. But the result is the same.. How should I act and where can I send you the video? To see what the real problem is.
For everyone saying he paid too much. He openly admits he paid to much for a broken console. But the aim of this channel is to buy broken items and repair other people's broken items. If he wanted a brand new one he would just go buy one but where is the fun in that. You have to buy consoles like this to repair to find these unknown issues that no one knows. Keep doing what you do phil you have my full support and it's a issue that will be discovered eventually but without people like you looking then no one would know.
Yeah I got a nearly brand new one for £300 cash
he could buy a new one and yeet it across the room
This wouldn't just cost me money it would cost me sleepless nights 😳
Lot of fun last night, Phil. Thanks for taking the challenge and going for it :)
Haha that was torture, but thanks I appreciate the support bud, genuinely it means a lot. Thank you 😊
These videos are best Phil . The ones that you don’t fix but we know you will . Can’t wait for the revisit and fix. So much the sweeter.
Great video Phil, I am astonished that someone has the nerve to charge almost full retail for a broken Xbox Series X the world has gone mad.
Didn't even have controller with it at that price
Crazy there is loads on gumtree boxed near new for 400 to 410. I paid 475 brand new for mine last week with delivery.
Can’t win all the time, we’ve all had them big losses, but sometimes it’s good we have a big win too.
Good video mate keep up the good work!
Another great video. love your methodology, explanation and patience!
It is cool that you constantly challenge yourself, and that is how you grow. However, please keep in mind that used Series X sells around 400 EUR, at least in Ireland. So even if you managed to fix it, you would not earn any money.
You're a beast, Phil. You really keep at these things regardless of hurdles. You'll suss this one out.
Almost everything broken is overpriced on ebay. Most sellers think broken items are worth the same as working items, some sellers charge even more than working items. It's a terrible place to buy broken electronics.
It does seem to be getting that way lately 😕
Yep I agree it's every hard to find anything worth the price to repair anymore.
Any alternative?
Yeah what you tend to find on ebay is people who sell the broken items have attempted to repair them and then sell them on at a profit from what they bought it for
@@aztekarchive Yep, I don't quite get stuff like that only because it makes ebay pointless as people end up constantly passing around the same broken crap that is either close to impossible to repair or unrepairable.
Another great video as always.. 😊
Good effort, Phil. You'll suss it eventually buddy. Keep it up, love your videos.
Sponsor lets go ! Congrats man.
I loved the video! I purchased a broken Series X for $440 (includes shipping) for an unopened hdmi issue. I was able to fix it in under 2 hours. The heat is always the issue with these boards...
Great video thanks.
Love watching your work. I'm still trying to figure out mine.. It had a previous repair of HDMI port and the encoder chip looked beat up, I changed the chip, some resistor/caps, that regulator/transistor.. No shorts on the HDMI port header.. Still no image . I haven't tried that ic you just bypassed... I'm lost at this point..I won't give up, hopefully we both figure it out
Great video 👍
i'm glad to see that you make a true story
You’ll get it Phil, I’d say the short is somewhere else and is just reading as that ic but I couldn’t tell u where to look for it
Absolutely I paid that nearly for new xbox series x in Australia 3 weeks ago $720au delivered
What a great video Phil, I really did enjoy it. I have taken inspiration from your videos and regularly buy consoles to fix as a hobby and I love it. This particular video I am interested in because my latest purchase has also been an xbox series x with no display, and a spare series s for spares. So far I have removed the encoder (what a pain that was!) but haven't replaced it yet. I will wait and see what the outcome of your video is, and if I find anything out I'll let you know as well. Thank you for your videos, I have learnt so much from you. Interesting fact, the HDMI filters on both series x and s are so tiny, but they don't seem to have any effect on the working of the console. I have removed them from the series s and still get a display as normal. Also, they only ever test as OL on the multimeter so I'm not sure what component they are! I am sure they do something useful, someone will correct me!
Really appreciate your content, looking forward to the next video!
Update: just a warning to anyone planning to remove the retimer chip on either the X or S: It takes a lot of heat, I would recommend preheating the whole board first, before using hot air. Also, the pads are VERY fragile! Even just running a hot iron over them once the chip is off, can cause pads to come off completely…
That’s some crazy shit you do lad ,🤔🤔 fascinating stuff,I really enjoy watching your videos .👍🏻👌🏻😉
Looked like 1 of the wires come of the esd bypass phill but awesome vid
Nah I double checked those mate, even revisited it in a future video so it definitely wasn't a loose wire. Cheers though bud
I got 8 ads in this one video. Screw you UA-cam
Dam mate 😕 😢 maybe you will get it running soon...so enjoy your videos 📹 please keep them coming 🙏 and here to help get your videos 📹 😉 out to everyone to enjoy 😉 😀 cheers mate 👍 👌
Sucks man ! Hope you get more ideas on what it could be. It def made an interesting video. Quite expensive indeed I think thats almost what they cost new here lol.
la calidad de tus videos es excelente, suscribanse lo vale, ty coder.
It's almost like the equivalent of snaking a pipe that's clogged.
Should make a hdmi patch board to test the areas
Cut trace off the faulty board and solder jumpers to ur custom hdmi board to see if get output to fast isolate areas
Maybe 2 can make hdmi signal injector and externally power that part of board to test
The boards for these are quite thick. The safest way to replace it might be to heat underneath the board first then use the hot air from overtop.
Hey Phil . Can I ask you, what kind of reading do the encoders usually put out? At the OUT. I was also thinking it may be SSD related.. Can't wait to see what we(you) figure out... What could we possibly do to test SSD?
Phil great try to getting that repaired, but not evetrhing is lost.......you have components to repair oher Xbox Series X! Cheers!
Cheers mate, yeah it'll hopefully come in handy for parts or possibly fix it in the future
Don't give up. The APU seems good. Maybe.
What if you trace that first shorted cap pin and find a burnt cap on the other side.
It seems to be a software related fault?
Hey Cod3r, I've got an original Xbox with a ripped off pad at a via. Would you recommend using an enameled jumper wire through the via and joining it on the other side? Or perhaps replacing the vias pad?
return of the matt
My air fryer stopped working the other day, fancy fixing it for me mush 😅
Haha I'll pass, I'll probably fry the components 😂
If you pause at 15:50 you can see a dogs face looking back at you in the flux !
How do you keep from discoloring the board when you have stuck components such as this? Whenever I get a mosfet etc that has welded itself to the board by the time I'm able to get it off with 480 at 99% af I've definitely discolored and cooked the solder mask a good amount. Great video as always my guy. Love your stuff.
Unlucky ( but it's better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all) Hope you find how to fix this one, and I will look forward to the revisit.👍
I've stopped trying to bid on spares and repairs someone is always willing to pay more than its worth. The only thing that doesn't get bid on much are laptops and it seem to be because people struggle to sell them due to there being so many
Cex have 2nd hand one for 440. Only a few weeks ago they were asking over 600
the esd booster is not boosting the 5v line. i think.
main features for the esd booster are:
a) esd protection of course
b) short cut protection on the 5v line (hdmi side)
c) level shifts for the sda and scl lines (i2c)
i think it gots its name "booster" because it boosts the sda and scl lines to 5v.
normally the output for the i2c to hdmi are 5v. the output from the hdmi chip possibly are not 5v. so you need a level shift from console ic voltage level to 5v.
i2c signals are open drain outputs means you need pull up resistors for both sda and scl.
i've seen you did some bypasses of the esd ic on some xbox one x(?) consoles.
so far i remember some consoles were not able to output 4k anymore right? or sometimes it works.
this is i think because of the scl and sda lines. the scl and sda are used for extended display identification data (EDID). if edid is not available or not working the console can't regonise if the tv is able to display 4k. so it only displays a resolution which is always possible.
interesting in your videos is i only see for sda and scl lines resistors in series. no pull up to 5v.
so the pullup for the sda/scl might be included in the esd ic.
for me the question is more why 4k is working sometimes? after reading the tdp158 datasheet it says you always need a 2k pullup to 5v on these lines (which is normal for i2c). without the esd ic you don't have them (possibly) means no EDID from the tv.
i'm currently searching on ebay for a xbox one x to test this.
greetz and keep up the good work ;) oki time to continue the video here ...
i learned alot in your videos esp. how to solder/reball my bga fpga for my own created fpga board... i love your videos... thx ;)
ok xbox one x is ordered with no hdmi output... let's see if i can get it back to life ;)
the faulty (no hdmi) xbox one x arrived today...
well i checked everything you do normally:
-switch on the xbox stays on... no faulty hd
-shorts on the esd ic...nope
-hpg/scl/sda lines on the hdmi port are 5v...nope
-shorts on retimer...nope
-resistance check of c50(c51?) near by the retimer ...about 8kohm...nope
-nudge test on hdmi pins ... nope
-filters infront of hdmi port... nope
hm everything seemed to be ok. then i had a look to the retimer if it was changed. and it was.
seems the guy before me did not check if all pins are soldered correctly.
so small resolder session on the retimer and? it's back to life... big shout out "yes" followed ;) cool. my first fixed console ;)
thanks again for your videos without them i wouldn't have been able to trace down the problem i guess...
i'll do next week some tests with the esd ic and bypass thing...
You've got the hippy hippy shakes
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the support 🙏 ❤️
I've still got that steak bake, if you want it mate. For parts lol 🤣
Hope you're well bud. 👍
Haha I'll take it 🤣
@@TheCod3r I'll even throw in a large sausage roll, with Greggs bag. No extra cost. 🤣
I have a question for you buddy. I replaced thermal paste on a lenavo laptop. When turning it on it now doesn't display. Complete black screen. No keyboard. No hdmi output when plugging it into a tv. Power light is on. Any ideas of what this could be ?. Cleaned old paste off with electronical contact cleaner dryed then applied thermal paste.
I can get working refurbished ones for £369
Think you need a preheater for those or perhaps your hot air is on its way out.?. You said the ic was not available but is there a datasheet for it, so many questions. I'll be watching for part 2 to see the conclusion, one other thing I don't know if you cut it out but do you not test the components off the board rather than put em back to find there short? ? See u on the next one....
I wonder if that short that was cleared, opened a trace on an internal layer of the board?
Sometimes the non fix vids are as good as the ones you manage to fix. I'd put money on you sorting it at some point buddy!
@@wayneking9997 wow troll much? I see this isn't the only thing you've commented on... He's fixed shitloads and helped a lot of people along the way. A simple search on UA-cam would show you that. If you don't like the content, don't watch it, pretty simple.
Honest question! Where do you find the knowledge of which circuit is which on different boards?
I can identify most individual components on the board but struggle with determining the circuitry sections, like a 5v booster circuit or a noise filtering circuit.

My boxed series x cost 350 in 2021 on Facebook marketplace 😂. Just got a xbox one x with red dead 2. Cyberpunk and gta for 90. On Facebook. Worth keeping a eye out. Some of the non working console recently are expensive. Seen a faulty one x go for 90 with no controllers.
Don't you check to see if these things are still in warranty?
Couldn't this just be software related.
Swap the SSD out from the working one or even the Series S. Pretty sure Steve from Tronicsfix did an SSD swap.
Do a revisit and retrace everything you missed something and you will kick yourself bud. Chin up 😀👍
Did you ever do a follow up on this?
What did Microsoft do to attach that hdmi encoder to the board, weld it on??
Hi brò, who don't think about this: Atten ST-862D Hot Air Rework Station

U could’ve got a working one from cash converters for the price u payed for that.
I know you’ll eventually fix this one phil
Damn that sucks! Let us know weather or not you figure out what’s wrong with it
Will do mate I'll definitely be revisiting this one for sure
He needs to revisit it otherwise his Woman gonna kick his arse....reason for the shakes. Oh and it's whether you illiterate tard :D
You can get a brand new one for £420 lad
You probly did pay too much. Our indie store in Hartlepool got one traded in fully boxed for £280 . All working.
I nearly killed mine. Left a hat ontop of the xbox as dident wsnt it getting dirty. Desided to have a game later that day. Hat still there only when I thought where is my hat and looked up in a panic. Xbox was wafting out some serious heat lol. Seems it resived 0 damage as it never shown any signs of issue since. Thankfully was only gaming for all of 15 mins max
if that console was a 360 or xbox 1 i would have said update loop, but i dont know the series x.
How did you come to bid so high for a broken Xbox, I noticed the listing shown claimed it didn't even have a controller either. Theres plenty series X going for £400 to £450 range working with controllers
Ok, but what about the video content that he is producing with this broken X-box? And Nordvpn sponsorship? It's not about to get a working Xbox, it's about to generate this to try to bring a broken console back to life
@@Lougardeixion then he should have bought a broken one that isn't way overpriced
I just bought one new for that. Wow
One or more of video memory chips are gone most likely :)
Just out of interesting on that chip surely spreading out solder all over the underpart of that chip is going to cause problems, I say that because it looks like the internals of the chip are exposed which is quite wierd to see.
That’s a flip-chip style package, the pads for the solder bumps are directly on the active wafer side of the chip.
@@midlifelab Thank you, so its actually a really delicate chip to be working with then when soldering?
It just seems a wierd thing to have no insulation between the two parts.
@@Ghost572 It is indeed. The flip-chips are particularly aimed at mobile phones and other miniature equipment, not being enclosed in a package making them smaller.
And having connections direct to the wafer removes the additional inductance due to the interconnect layer and leads!
Have you tryed the safe mode boot up
Think we have a bot account hear 👆
Phil, did you say it was the same chip on the one X?
You can get a working one cheaper hmm 😁
Should you not check ssd first?
You missed 1 ball I think 👍
*************SPOILER ALERT*************
cant win them all man, but appreciated the hustle on this :).... I have a sneaky feeling you will come back to this in future and figure it out... You are an inspiration mate, and im glad you share the losses as well as the wins.....
Thanks mate, gotta take the rough with the smooth sometimes lol. Appreciate the support bud, thank you 😊

395 quid 😂😂😂 headcase
Flip and win.
The xbox one or series seems to really have an issue with theirs video chip, is it Microsoft not doing what is recommended design wise, or the chip is just trash?
Argos Have PS5 in store today and tomorrow for walk in customers.
These ebay series x seem to be too risky to work on with restocks coming more frequently in the future.
Yes you did.
Gutted man. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Video can claw back a couple of quid hopefully.
Yep definitely, hopefully I'll fix it in another one and hopefully get some back in revenue lol
Curious why you would spend so much on it? Even if you repaired it and sold it, I can hardly see any profit being made after spending £395 and then having to spend money on shipping it. Just curious really if it was an easy repair how much would you expect to sell it for and make from it?
Was there any follow up to this one? Just catching up on missed videos :)
Nah bud I don't think I ever did
Actually you saying that, I found that console out today. I was going to do it on stream tonight haha
@@TheCod3r great stuff :)
£395 for a broken Xbox 🤣🤣🤣
It might be the flux capacitors!
Are you sure this thing is booting? Have you tried powering it off blind with a controller?
It's awesome if he doesn't get it working he still makes money off video plus he has spare for his repair business
Just take a break from it and come back you'll figure it out.
On eBay, £395 is why too much for a broken console. Like god damn lower the price by half or something
You payed way to much. I payed £350 for mine private sale and mine works fine
for $500 i could get one new from best buy

Paid well too much when you can get 2nd hand working for that price
