I use epoxy that can take 500c to glue the replacement copper traces/pads into place. Takes 45 mins to become hard and 24 hours to cure. That way I have a stable pad for soldering. With wires you can hammer them flat. With solder solder braid you can do the same. Cut the trace and hammer the pad area flat.
To be a fair vertical position demonstration I think you should put on some clear acryl on the APU like how it sits with the heatsink (or something clear where the liquid metal sticking). Maybe the liquid metal will sit on the lower edge or maybe it will flow equally on the surface because of the capillary action. Will be good to know. I have been using my PS5 vertically since day 1 for 3 years now without an issue. I think the liquid metal moves only when you move the console like lifting and placing on the stand. What I can imagine happening with the liquid metal is if you e.g. try to set the ketchup at the outlet by hitting it to the table upside down (the position how you normally squeeze it out).
Capillary action is much stronger than gravity in this case. Just ask a physician. It just doesn't make a difference if you place the PS5 vertical or horizontal.
@@batluckies liquid metal is not water, it weights much more and heat get it even more liquidy. all the ps5 opened have excess liquid on the same side, the bottom one if you use the console in vertical. You're denying the obvious.
I know nothing about consoles so this is a real question. Wouldn't the liquid metal moving around indicate not enough pressure being applied to the chip? I'm asking because I work on my own PC, and have watched a lot of videos where PC users will use liquid metal on their CPU heat spreaders, and have never seen this issue with them. Would this also be a concern for PC users with extended use? Unlike consoles PCs aren't designed to operate horizontally so we wouldn't be able to lay them down. Personally I just use thermal paste to avoid any of that nonsense, but I'm still really curious to know.
@@demontekdigital1704certainly a fair and genuinely placed question. I sure hope that someone answers this question for you! Best of luck with your pc as well!💪🤓
@@Alexander_Bahgheera Thank you for your kind words! The CPU I own doesn't get nearly hot enough to use liquid metal with it. I was just curious to know if insufficient mounting pressure could be the issue with consoles. Now that I think of it, the issue might also be coming from an even surface on the PS5's chip. Right now I'm using Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut because it's a bit less expensive than their Kryonaut, and runs about the same for my uses. I use it for both my CPU, and GPU chips. Unfortunately you can't really lap a bare chip, so little can be done to provide a truly flat surface for the heatsink to bond to, but one MIGHT be able to lap the heatsink, though it wouldn't do very much.
