  • Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM 10Bit 4K Video Test (Shot on ZV-E1)
    Finally back to Melbourne to do my new Sony 50mm video. I did a compact version FE 50mm f/2.5 G lens 2 years ago. It’s time to do a new one. And this time, we have the FE 50mm f/1.4 GM. So you may ask, why f/1.4 not the f/1.2 version. For me it’s always the same answer. The weight. Of course the f/1.2 gives you creamer bokeh. But it is also extra 200g. Some of you may think 200g is nothing. But for me it’s a lot. Consider I don’t just carry one lens with me when I travel. Also I have had the Canon f/1.2 version before, and I found myself stopping down to f/1.4 or f/2 anyway. So I rather go for a f/1.4 GM.
    So what about the image quality? Yea, as it is a GM lens. The image quality is spectacular. It’s super sharp even wide open. And it balances really well on the ZV-E1. Not front heavy at all.
    Over all, I think this is a really nice lens. And 50mm just makes everything look cinematic.
    Note: I didn’t expect Melbourne to be that bright during my short trip. It was 37’c and super sunny the whole time. So I had to stop it down a lot of the shots during the day.

    Very nice work. I wonder how you able to upload cinemascope format in 4K (~5190x2160) while the acquisition resolution is 16:9 (3840x2160) ? I know we can set the cinemascope resolution in the editing software and crop to fit the 16:9 video. But how would you able to upload 5190x2160 ? Have you done any upscale ? If so, I like to know your settings in your editing software. Thanks!

      Thanks, yea the ZV-E1 is very compact. It makes you use it more than the bigger camera. For my Canon set up, I have the C70. But I always end up using the R5C more. Cos it’s easier 😅

    Looks good as always! Are you color grading in resolve or still using premiere? Can you say a bit about your color grading workflow?

    I would love two sony A74's and do this with my Nikon 50mm F1.4 lens via adapter

    I love f 1.4 aperture lenses. But sad that its 50mm . I would love to see sony release a f 1.4 at 15mm for full frame cameras.

      When shooting wide angle, there is no depth in between. So even with f/1.4, your subject will still be in focus and no bokeh. Thats why we usually see f/2.8 max for wide angle lens.

    How do you achieve this with log and so low ISO? You don't have to use the dual base ISO?

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  5 місяців тому +3

      That's the problem when shooting S-log. To get the best result you will need to shoot on native ISO of 640 and ISO 12,800. Thats why I used HLG 2 picture profile. It might not have the best dynamic range. But it gives you very clean image. And its a lot easier to grade too 😊
