- Today I found the unthinkable at the flower shop.. I did not think this is even possible, but they've done it! They've created the scentless Miltoniopsis orchid 😐 and also a very nicely scented Phalaenopsis schilleriana hybrid :P

Hi Danny. Just wanted to say I'm a huge fan of your new video style being able to see you. Your personality and love of orchid's really comes through. Keep up your wonderful videos.
Me too, she’s very pretty and love seeing her joy on her face as she talks about her beautiful flowers ❤️
I am thoroughly enjoying your new video format. Thank you always for the practical approach to orchid awareness and care.❤❤❤
I just found one of those scented schilleriana hybrids at my local Kroger! Folks on the orchid subreddit told me they thought it was a phal Scention or Odorion. Such a lovely and affordable find!
Is it the one that’s pale pinkish/brown with some shade of yellow and purple on the lip?
I got one at an orchid show last month and today I saw it at Kroger and although I doubted it was the same I still bought it. At the store it didn’t have any scent and from the experience with the one I already had, the scent comes out when the temperature gets warm or with a little sunshine. So, as soon as I walked out of the store, the orchid smelled exactly like the one I already have. I’m glad I found it because I wanted to have another one just in case.
I wish we had orchid shops like you have a chance to go to, smell the wonderful orchids and beautiful flowers but I get to do it through your video's and can almost smell your orchids the way you describe everything ..
Hi Danny,I learned a lot from you for many years and always love your videos but now seen your face it's even better. You have a beautiful personality, thank you for everything you have done and the love you put into orchids.
Totally agree!
Miltonopsis have the most beautiful scent of all orchids! 🤩
I'd never sacrifice it for more vigorousness.
But they are really really finicky, no chance for me to keep them alive.
Hi Danny, I got a Phal with that molted leaves from my flower shop too (and it smells wonderful!!). I think they're all from a breeder Scention. They often restock these scented hybrid Phal in Orchideen-Wichmann. Honestly, if I have to choose between a plain but scented orchid and a colorful scentless one, I will always choose the scent.
I like the "Dusty Belle" that is similar from Orchideen-Wichmann.
@@user-qe8wr2ki5h I hope there will be more of these scented hybrids. Not only do they still have the traits from the Schilleriana but they're also cheaper
Thanks for all these helpful videos Danny! I've never been able to take care of orchids before, but after watching your videos, I have two beautiful mini orchids that I've repotted and are doing very well. Thank you!
Yes! Bring on those beautiful flowers, and hardiness,no scent needed. Good to "see u" finally!!
Danny, I agree completely about fragrance. I have only one orchid, that I found on a table of orchids at a nursery, and the one I picked was the one that was most fragrant (no-ID but guessing an oncidium twinkle) 🙂 !!!. Hope orchid fragrance doesn't repeat the awful story of roses gradually losing their fragrance because people buy them based on pictures only.
Hi Danny, your ne phalaenopsis hybrid could be Phalaenopsis Diffusion. This hybrid has been around for a while and the fragrance is wonderful ❤
I wouldn’t trade fragrance for vigorousness. I love stanhopeas, they only last a few days but they have the most powerful scent ever, I understand how you feel about miltoniopsis 😩
I have a miltoniopsis that is only fragrant during morning hours and that disappears in the afternoon so timing could also be one of the reasons you don't smell anything.
MY FAVORITE!!! 🥰🥰🥰😘😘✨ Will NOT give up the scent for ease of care,…🤗 I’ve never come across a scentless Miltoniopsis. Don’t be upset but I have that Hybrid and mine is scented,…✨ I also have that scented mini-Phal with modeled leaves LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️ I have two Jiaho’s Pink Girl and they are both in spike/bud phase ✨
Love the yellow faces located at the center of the phal...time 5:08
Hey Danny! I love watching your videos, you’ve taught me so much. I was at the grocery store today and I saw the strangest orchid in the mini phalaenopsis section. It seems to be three flower heads smashed into one around the stem. Like a kaleidoscope. Have you ever seen something like this? Of course I bought it and I have a picture if you’d like to see.
My plain store bought orchid is in its 4th year but it has never had a fragrance and it is still blooming nicely! Thanks for all your help over the years and good to see your very prey face that matches your wonderful personality!
I found a deep red one a few years ago at the grocery store which is rare to find here. It’s my favorite fragrance!! Unbelievably I’ve managed to keep mine alive so far and it’s Re bloomed since with the same delicious fragrance. It’s been a harder one for me to grow so thanks for your videos which have helped tremendously
Hi Danny , i got a Phalenopsis just like yours a few months a go here in Belgium
Beautyful plant , and she growing a new leaf now !
Thanks for your video’s
Always love to Watch them
I got my self my first miltoniopsis with 17 flowers she looks great i also belive ill do good with her in my climate and oh my she is so fragrant😍 she smells like roses with a lemony note danny omg im in love with her🥰🥰🌸🌸
I think that is a Phalaenopsis Diffusion.
I had one myself and it smelled so good. :)
I have horrible allergies and scentless might be a dream come true for me. Although I love the way flowers smell I have a terrible time with the allergy results.
The supermarket had a promo with oncidiuns. Poor things. Some died of thirst. I've been tempted to buy some just to try and save them... but too expensive for an almost dead plant. :(
Still I got some nice ones and I LOVE the smell. I think I also got the Miltopsis Herr Alexander. So pretty. And one other with a very intense scent and strips. My nose goes there at least once a day. My work desk is next to my flowers and the scent is addicting.
HI Danny: I would NEVER give up the fragrance for vigor in an orchid. There are so many that do not have fragrance, that if it can have fragrance, I want it!! Grow on...
Scentless miltoniopsis... uh, no, No, NO!
Fragrance is the reason and the first thing I check for. I want to walk in the room and be hit with the scent 😄. I've noticed recently that some milts don't seem to have a fragrance -- I was attributing it to time of day and possibly too cold in the store.
The schilleriana hybrid, I accidentally lucked into one and only noticed the rose-scent after purchase because I wasn't expecting it. The leaf coloration and patterning should have given me huge hints but I was less informed about orchids when I purchased it.
Thanks for a great video!
I have not watched for awhile. Delightful to finally see you. Great decision!
Danny,
That’s a difficult choice! I like the scent and I like the ease of care too.
Sometimes, I have bought a plant according to the ID label attached to it. Then, upon closer inspection and research at home, I find out the plant species does not match the label. The first couple of times, I let it go. The third time (at the same store), I raised hell about it. For those of us who are plant lovers, collectors, and worshipers - the plant genus, species, and everything related to the individual specimen are of utmost importance to us. Sometimes it is easy to 'detect' the error in labeling, but other times, especially when the plants are very young - it's not so easy.
Imagine buying a puppy thinking you are getting a Doberman, but instead, you get a Dachshund.
Serious vendors should make sure they label the plants correctly. Disappointed customers tend not to come back.
Wow! That phalenopsis is amazing!
I recently got my mother, who really only can keep Phalaenopsis orchids alive and has a bunch of grocery store ones, the Phalaenopsis Sogo Diamond HLW from Schwerters and she absolutely adores it. It just now is starting to open the blooms and it looks even more stunning irl than on the pictures
I have a yellow miltoniopsis and when she’s blooming I can smell her upstairs and downstairs both!
Sounds like a dream! Never found a yellow Milt myself 😭
I bought in Edeka for 7EUR Phal. "scention" light pink same leafs and also nice smell 😊
I loved your “Inner Thoughts” short that you made recently. Hilarious!… because it was painfully relatable 😅😂
I'm at the age where I want both, lol! I have the Mil. Linda Lingle, and i love her ❤
The new phal kinda looks like the “Phalaenopsis Diffusion” (what it’s called at my flower shop)
Hi Dani great to see you 😄did the florist have any answers to your questions and suspicions? I have one miniature phalaenopsis that has fragrance not strong but there. I found it at Aldi"s. I so enjoy your video's , Take care
Hi, sadly florists in my area are not very knowledgeable in orchids 🤷🏻♀️
Wow Danni you scared me when you said you had awful news. I thought oh no a new Orchid purchase infected all your orchids. I am glad all is ok. Glad all is ok but you actually scared me. 🫶💚🪴🍃🌿🌵🌱☘️
Hi, you should know my channel will never deal with serious personal matters, no matter if they happen behind the scenes. We're all about orchids and sometimes light hearted entertainment here 😇 and sorry, scentless miltoniopsis is just awful 😆 kidding
@@MissOrchidGirl ❤All love here and I have watched you since almost the beginning. Everyone on here is a real person & has real problems. Sometimes people need to vent. Just didn't know as other creators have had to vent. It's healthy. I'm glad it was just silliness.😊🤭🫶🪴☘️🌱🌵🌿🍃
Not an issue for me, it is Soo beautiful! Too much drama. I just love to see the colors that make me happy.
I have a mini Phaelenopsis that is slightly lemony scented, I have had it for years, but only noticed its scent about a year ago. Namely around noon, when the sun is out, the flowers produce a slight lemony scent. It has small very dark purple flowers with a small white rim on short flower stalk. I got it as a no ID at a local garden center years ago. I would like me some more scented ones though. I will be on the lookout 👀 I also love the scent of Miltoniopsis and would not like to trade this for ease of care. Growers should indeed produce more fragrant hybrids ❤
I know there’s a Sherry Baby Twinkle that was made without fragrance because some people don’t like it/have allergies. It might be the same idea.
Hi Danny, no I won't give up fragrance
Love you, MOG! You are too funny! 😂
Love you back! 🧡
Yes, I would be fine with a unscented orchid. Especially since I have never smelt an orchid. I have a very poor sense of smell and have always just enjoyed them for their beautiful foliage and flowers. 🐸
I always view fragrance as a bonus😂 I just love the flowers!
I had 3 of them and give one to my friend name is scention and it’s smells beautiful ❤ They are really extensive in Turkey and I manage to smugle them to North Cyprus in my suitcase 😊
Hi Danny, don't give up on your miltoniopsis without fragrance. My milt, very fragrant while blooming from the old growth, seemed to had lost its most attractive trait as the buds on the first spike of the new growth opened. Now, a week later, it is fragrant again, albeit for a couple of hours around noon only.
What might have made the difference? My best guess: an increase of humidity beyond 60% and, starting today, thorough misting of the entire plant in the morning. Different hybrids may have different humidity thresholds.
Mine grows under natural light with grow lights added during morning and evening hours. Maybe, natural light helps miltoniopsis to know when it is time to spread its scent.
Thank you so much for your very informative and beautifully photographed videos!
I love fragrance!!! One reason I love Cattleyas
This is Optiflor hybrid orchid with lovely scent. I have a little different variety. It is hard to find them in Serbia cause we're still not part of EU 🥺 Sending you lots of hugs 🌸🌍 p.s. I have learned so much from your posts about taking care of. All the best
Hi Danny,
My problem is
I don’t have a very good sense of smell.
The fragrant of the orchids has to be really strong enough in order for me to smell it.
So, it is the visual color of the flower that is important for me.👍
I've had a few Miltoniopsis seedlings that were not fragrant the first time that they bloomed but were fragrant in subsequent bloomings. Also I have a Miltoniopsis Linda Lingle that has huge blooms that smell like roses just as you described. But my favorite Miltoniopsis scent is the Odontonia Memoria Martin Orenstein 'Lulu' that smells like warm chai tea! Mine is about to bloom for the second time this year.
So glad to have found your videos. I was given an orchid in September after losing my baby girl. I've never kept orchids before and so have been unsure if i was caring for mine properly. Now I'm glad to say I'm starting to take better care of it. One question I do have is, if I accidentally nick an airial root while cutting the flower spike off what, if anything, should I do about it?
For me the scent is really important too. I "collect" roses (mini ones for inside) and so far have only gotten one that is scented and even though I really disliked the colour it still is more or less my favorite roses
Give me fragrance over easy any day! But then I’m a dancer, and we are suckers for the impossible challenge! 😂
same happened with Roses, big flowers, all colours... but no scent
I think that schilleriana hybrid us called phal. diffusion but im not 100% sure i one 2 of them one is more special because she has a yellow picotee pattern wich is amazing there are mor of those fragrant motled leafe phals keep you eyes open they are common in flowershops!🌸💜
I bought a flower shop phal with a teensy bit of fragrance a few months ago. It varies and I'm not yet sure when it's flowers smell the best or worst yet, and it definitely is kinda stressed out I think... I'm just a beginner. I just wanted a healthy phal, I'm SO happy with it, but yeah it's not the most fragrant either. It smells like you're across the aisle from the floral section of a grocery store, but it won't trigger my allergies. I love her so much. I think her name is going to be Nana.
Seven years ago I bought a bright yellow mini phal that smelled of flowers and tropical fruit. Unfortunately it was a noid and I killed it when I moved two years ago. I have been looking for one ever since. So I definitely fall on the side of keeping the scent! I do have a couple other plants, orchids and non, I have bought just for the scented flowers. I am even willing to pay more for a scented hybrid than an unscented like 8$ more for the darker less showy Encyclia 'Dark Chocolate' over the flashy bright barely scented Encyclia 'Purple Glory'
I've found that when I increase light and humidity the fragrance intensifies.
Hi Dany. I love Miltonias but can't grow them. If an unscented one would be easier to grow I would be OK. I have not seen the Phal you showed at all but maybe Orchid shops will have it. The shops from me are at least 1 to 2 hours away. When we go on vacation I always check for orchid shops. Love all your videos ❤
I am in the opposite camp - I would sacrifice fragrance for a vigor in this case because I love Miltoniopsis flowers but can't grow them in my area very easily.
Bought very similar miltonipsis a month or two ago and it had fragrance, of course not as strong as Herr Aleksander has, and most intense in the mornings. But I have already lost two Herr Aleksander plants and hope this one will survive
Oh you had me laughing in this video....but as an avid miltoniopsis orchid killer😅 and someone who lives in the Caribbean growing most of my plants outdoors I won't mind one of these....robust type growing/blooming orchid😂.....but the lack of fragrance would still be sad
Wish I had this type of flower shop near where I live... 🙂
hi Danni! I wish you read my message and make a video about paphiopedillum..I would like to see your collection as well! Always happy to admire orchids.. Well my question about paphs. Is why my paphiopedillum grows rosette like crazy but not flowering😮🤔 in the last two months has grown three rossetes not all seem to be matured now I checked there is a fourth growing!!! crazy right?! This is happening to a paphiopedillum maudiae femma... last year bloomed fine with an extended flower period of two months+ ....Well if you have any idea so I can correct any wrong it will be welcome thank you and wish you Happy Easter!!❤
I haven't watched in a long time.....hello to your face!
I once had a Miltonia which had the most delicious fragrance. She sadly passed away under my care. Last year I decided to give her another go and searched for the exact same one. Sadly she got shipped during minus degrees and got frost damage. She isn't in bloom and I don't know if I can ever get her to thrive or bloom. But I will try my best.
I think i have the same phalaenopsis. Mine is from kolibrie orchids. It also has a wonderful fragrance.
I got the same white miltoniopsis few days ago and it has no scent! And it’s from the same supplier as the pink miltoniopsis you have :(
I'm shocked! I just got my first miltoniopsis, Maui Pearl, a month ago. I cannot imagine it without the fragrance--it would be like a zombie version of itself! Vote no on scentless miltoniopsis! 😂
I hate miltoniopsis. Never will buy one again. But when I see one in flower shop or garden center, i take a sniff 😊
Regarding flower shop news (actually grocery store news) i noticed that one of stores in PL sells "fragrant" phalenopsises. These are regular phals with attached bag infused with some aroma 🤣 I _almost_ bought yellow one by mistake 😬
I love the flowers of Miltoniopsis - but I DO WANT the fragrance! At present I have no Miltoniopsis (I do have Oncidopsis Lulli 'Menuet', which I love). I've actually found Miltonipsis to be as exacting in their care as the Odontoglossums. Oh, and the title of your video scared me there - I'm not even gonna say what my first thought was, but thank God it wasn't that!
I have this miltoniopsis hybrid and it did have a fragrance for about a day after the first bloom.
Not had much luck with oncidiums in general so…probably stick with scented and assume it’s going to die. I’ve found several varieties of fragrant mini phals - a yellow with pink in the center, a white, the one you have, and one that’s more peachy. Some have grayish leaves, some have the patterned leaves. Also found a yellow that smells faintly of lemons. That one has odd foliage that I’m not sure how to describe.
I have experienced the scentless Red Tide situation as well here in Romania.
I want a Herr Alexander now
I would not give up scent for east of care
I know one orchid hobbyist from the Philippines who likes orchids and hoyas that are scentless. According to him, given his very limited space for plants, having several strong smelling orchids blooming at the same time can be nauseating. Thus, he prefers flowers that do not have a scent
Yes, I bought the Miltoniopsis at the hardware store last week(Germany). it is my first miltoniopsis and unfortunately without a scent. 😢I also have the Optiflor Phalenopsis. I think she's a little more sensitive to root rot.
I believe you'll be able to grow much more other miltoniopsis in Germany
I love the scent too! Well, the idea of it. I haven't found yet an orchid with scent. Are they more finicky in general? Because I used to live in an apartment with no light so every orchid did not make it for more than 1 year. But now, I only have eastern windows 😊😊😊 Should I invest in an orchid with scent or should I practice first with a phalaenopsis?
This is horrifying news Phals with sent, Oh no I may not be able to buy any new one is it's going this way.
Love your videos! I would be happy just to get a flower. I have been growing orchids for a very long time and i have never gotten flower spike. I have beautiful leaves, healthy plants, but sadly no flower spikes. 9:44
That’s a beautiful mottled leaf phal. I just bought 5 of them because of their fragrance! Sadly all my 4 miltoniopsis bought 2 years ago didn’t survive :-(
Hi Danny could you please make a video about how recognize which orchids are hybrids?
Good idea! 🧡 I have a video on hybrids vs species coming soon btw :))
I have a couple of miltoniopsis from an orchid grower here in Oregon, United States. They are not fragrant and most of what I can find in these nurseries are not fragrant. 😢 very sad to know that I’m missing out.
My milt smells like roses and parsley. So good.
Really enjoyed your video as I start to get more orchids. I was wondering if you have any experience with Dockrillia which is an Australian orchid and do you have any tips? I searched it up but not much information about it.
Hi 😮I have over 100 orchids and none of mine are fragrant because I have really bad allergies and I can’t do fragrance. I would love to find a Miltoniopsis with no fragrance. Sadly the ones I had purchased I gave to my friend who has orchids 😢
I have a couple of miltoniopsis and they are not fragant. These hybrids have been around for a while. They are not easier to care for, but I don't really mind. In fact I prefer orchids without scent, I don't like many of the popular ones (i.e. oncidium sharry baby) and even nice scents can trigger my allergies, so...
The Fragrant Phalaenopsis seems to be Phal. Diffusion. Quite similar leaves and colour. I would also love to have fragrance orchids rather than just the bloom show. 😂
I don’t mean any disrespect or try to be weird, but you’re the most beautiful woman on UA-cam!
Lol I love you so much😭😭😭
It’s okay they tried you Dani, Where is the scent?!
I’ve got to get one of those fragrant orchids…
I just bought a Miltonopsis called Princess Diana and the scent is not that strong. I am hoping it gets better. Then there is another Miltonopisis that I have had for a couple of years that has THE best smell. I accidently broke the flower spike :( My schilleriana does not have a scent. I have no luck with scented orchids except the one that I broke the flower spike lol
I wonder if the miltoniopsis will have scent next year? I have a Jaiho's Girl that didn't have any scent until this year (at least, I couldn't detect one). Fingers crossed! :)
Love your videos I have a question If I buy an orchid that is in spagnum moss and is blooming when can I repot it in orchid mix? I tend to kill them if they are in spagnum moss
I will say I owned only one Milt in my life ....and ummm, yeah didn't do well. But I will say I would prefer fragrance. Considering I know not many orchids have a scent to begin with. But, I'm sure you'll be able save that Milt 🌱
Dani - I have a phalaenopsis that has ‘split’ leaves from the tip? The new coming leave is also split. Can you tell me ‘why’???
I had this same exact miltoniopsis!! the pink one i had didn't have a scent at all! i found it as a beautiful budding plant and within weeks it melted :/ i lost an entire bud filled flower spike. and the bulbs started rotting... it made me so sad and now i'm scared to get any others..
A Miltoniopsis with no fragrance is something I refuse to believe exists. Period.
Hi Dani what should I do for my orchid the roots don’t look bad but the crown don’t look good at all so will I be able to save her if the crown looks bad like black but the roots look good except for maybe couple or so
