Thanks for showing your frustration. Often women don't dare to show frustration and laugh it off or say, they are stupid. When you're creative and making things it's normal that things don't always go perfect and it's normal to get frustrated. It really helps to see examples of gifted people who show that creativity is not only Inspiration, but that sometimes frustration is part of the process! Thanks for that!
I agree! A lot of creativity IS frustration. I do always wonder how much of that stuff to keep in--so I'm glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching 😊
OH. MY. GODDESS. I probably already told you this, but I LOVE YOU thank you for giving my favourite century some love and showing me that even a person of a plush size, like me, can actually look GOOD in these bodies
I made it to the second mock-up stage of the pink, front lacing stays/bodies you showed when introing the books. I may re-launch them this year because they’re for a historical cosplay. We have similar, voluptuous proportions, so these videos are priceless for curvy gals trying to pull off “straight” silhouettes. Thank you for sharing your process so clearly!
Ooooh the pink V&A bodies! Those are awesome, I hope you do pick them back up! Definitely on my to-make list! You're welcome, I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Finally, a costumer who covers my favorite century, thank you so much!!!! 🎉❤ I've been looking for a solid costumer resource for 4 years 😭 Thank you, truly thank you!
Isn't it crazy how void the costumeverse is of 17th century makers?? One of the reasons I started the channel 😂 So glad to have another 17th century enthusiast in this space! Welcome! 😊
I have made Victorian corsets, and worn 17th century stays (Yay! Working at Ren Faires when I was in high school!). If fitted properly, both are very comfortable. Both have fitting issues that you have to learn how to do. It becomes more difficult when you live alone and don't have extra hands and eyes to help. At least now there are a lot of pattern choices. 15 years ago finding a base pattern you could actually understand was a difficult task.
The mid-17th century is one of my favourite periods of dress, and I'm working on a late 1640s-early 1650s ensemble with a similar cut. This video was so helpful! It's lovely to know there's people that are also passionate about the 1600s. Now, if only there were events...
@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming I've considered taking it upon myself to do 17th century events. I live in Scotland and it's such an interesting period here, I'm not sure why it doesn't appeal! And thank you, likewise with yours 😁
I'm about to do some late 18th century (sorry 😝) stays and this is really neat. Also I LOVE a wearable mockup. I'm currently wearing my wearable walking skirt mockup. The waistband is actually too small, but I still wear it ALL THE TIME! Edit: I also got my dad (a carpenter) to help me with making a busk for my Regency stays. I think that we used oak.
Congratulations on making your ko-fi goal for the Dark Unicorn! Really great video on the complexity of fitting the 1660 bodie: I learn so much from all of your 17th century videos, I just wish more people were interested in sewing clothing from this period. Maybe we should get together and form our own group...lol! 🧡💙
Thank you so much!! Very excited about it! I'm so glad you enjoyed 😊 And RIGHT? I wish more people were. But I think they will be. Just takes time and exposure 😈
That's one of the things I hate about corsetry. The wearing of the mockup amd having bones poking you in weird places!!! Love the petticoat colour. A great tip about the side bust support! Typical that the rain would stop once you'd finished😂. Hope you're not getting too drenched. Bloody hell, that's the last thing you need waking you up at stupid o'clock! I hope he got his leak fixed, cos you don't need that happening again.
@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming I keep hoping that'll be all I need, but so far what felt comfortable for 4 hours was pinchy after 20 minutes the next time... and I can't stand having well fitting running shoes or properly fitted bras on longer than strictly required, and pants tight enough not to fall off over my lack of hips aren't comfortable if I have to sit. Blargh... I should just be a nudist.
This is true of pointe shoes as well. The first pair you put on, you have no idea what a good fit is. It's only after you wear a few pairs that you get to know what works & what doesn't. Since we don't wear bodies, stays, or corsets as a matter of course in modern life, we don't know what it's really supposed to feel like. It's not even a discomfort thing but of course they don't feel like clothes you're used to. Good luck!😊
@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming OMG a busk in a tavern. YIKES! Yeah, none of those fancy ladies stays for the working girl navigating the floor(and hands) of the pirate club.

Thanks for representing us curvy ladies who are more well endowed that helps so much for people like me who want to get into historical costuming!
Glad you find it helpful! Thanks for watching!
My daughter came in and said, "You're always watching some woman in olde timey underwear." 😂
LOL!!!! One does spend an insubordinate amount of time in old-timey underwear while making old-timey clothes 😵💫😆

You are making this 17th century re-enactor a very happy bunny. Even if the style is a bit late for my era, your efforts are appreciated. 😊💙
Whooohoo! Glad to have another 17th century enthusiast around!! Thanks for watching 😊
I am *in LOVE* with your petticoat! I **love** teal- so I can't wait to see the rest of the gown!

Oh gods, I love that you scaled this up in MS paint. That is the level of technological know how that I can handle.
Hah! 🤣 It is a little more complicated than I showed, but it's definitely the easiest way, imo!!

So far so good with the leak business. It's hard to complain about the rain, we need it so bad, but it was terrible timing 🤣 Thanks for watching!

Ahaha 🤣
Thanks for the interesting video. Very excited to see the rest of the outfit. 😊
You're welcome, so glad you enjoyed! Super excited to share the final piece with you! (Even if it's taking forever...)
I reckon that if a 17th century tailor had been asked to make a pair of bodies for you, he would have done them the same way you did!
Glad my process seems so logical! 😆😆
A 30cm/12" wooden ruler makes for a passable busk 😊
Great tip!
Love this style, thanks for sharing

With fitting, it also helps if you know what good fit feels like, and I really don't.
Something with a good fit feels comfortable. If it hurts or pinches, that's where the problems are!

Bodies and stays a must for the Golden Age of Piracy though for a tavern wench jumps seem to be more "practical."
Probably 🤣 I think a busk might get in the way of a tavern wench's outfit! Jumps are cool, though. Definitely something I'd like to tackle!
