Manuel Mateo But Supervised by Araki. It is a canon novel but people don't know it well is bc there is no English translation. Which is a shame bc it hurts Fugos character and makes him a bitch I'm glad he fucks over Solgolia hard and pretty "Devolves" his plan. The only good parts were Bruno v The Cure and the gay duo vs Rigatoni.
Fugo is prime example of a chacter who is "blessed with suck". Sure, his stand is incredibly powerful, but when he uses it, almost everything around him dies. He rarely uses his powers, because he cares about the people around him. Heaven help us if Fugo ever stops caring.
Right. Which is why I love Purple Haze Feedback sm, it allows us to see Fugo overcome his stand and learn to control and accept it, finally earning his trust in himself
One thing I see a lot of people missing about the anime backstory is the timing of Fugo's anger toward the professor. Even with the sexual advances from the prof, Fugo just tries to fearfully avoid the prof and walk away. But then the prof offers to give Fugo answers to an upcoming test. THAT's when Fugo stops his retreat and starts to angrily demand the prof to not go any further. Prof continues and he(Fugo) bludgeons the prof while saying he used to look up to the prof. I interpret this as Fugo feeling betrayed that a person he admired for being scholarly was willing to endorse academic cheating. I think the unwanted sexual advances definitely fueled his rage in part, but it was the offer to cheat on a test that sparked the rage. Even in the Purple Haze Feedback novel, it's noted that Fugo's rages seem to others to suddenly flare up over insignificant stuff (or at really weird timings) because people don't truly understand Fugo's thinking and that frustrates him to no end until his anger just bursts.
Honestly Fugo is probably one of my favorite characters. It's a shame that he didn't get more fights, and the most we get out of his character is from non-canon sources.
Fugo was great, even him leaving was great, Golden Wind is about relationships and Fugo is unable to make deep trust relationships, because for believing in others, you have to trust yourself and Fugo can't do this. And I know it is up to debate if it is canon, but in the anime the outburst of Fugo is not just, because he got sexually abused, but he got sexually abused from a person he deeply trusted in making him unable to trust other people and also him self, because he beat someone almost to death. Bucciarati is almost his escape, but ultimately he can't trust himself so he leaves. And this scene at the end with Aerosmith flying over italy and Fugo looking up in the sky to see it was too beautiful
I dont feel like Fugo BETRAYED his friends by not following them against the Boss,i feel its just a disagreement, and its normal, you cant expect your friends to agree with every decision you make, its how real life works. He didnt contact the Boss or the organization to deliver his friends in a silver plate or anything,he just chose to not get involved at all. I was actually expecting him to appear again in the end of the story to be together again with the others, but in a different way.
@@ElMango14 Yeah i know the story, it was a good solution just making him leave, but also felt a little empty, it would be nice if he came back in a different saga so he could be a true good guy this time, but that wont happen for sure.
One thing I once read about Araki was that it seems once he decides that an element is not serving purpose to the story (call it hamon, Gio's reflect damage skill, or similar) he simply removes it and doesn't bring it up ever again. Doing so would mean to revisit the last time the element was used, and things can feel unnatural if not done properly. Not meaning he can't do it, but with a weekly run with the Shounen Jump magazine, lots of things got decided as he was developing the story, and giving that time to call Fugo back would be in detriment of the direction he was taking. Besides, Fugo's decision is true to his character, he dwells on logic alone because that's what makes sense, and exposing himself to a brutal danger over a girl he feels he doesn't even know, is the opposite of logical.
Not really. It’s like saying if the hand touches you your screwed like yes it’s true but it’s how the user weirds it taht makes it have the best offence. If you want to go by pure ability though then you have to remember the hand exists and if it’s user was not the moron it is would wipe the floor with kugo
she wanted to break free from the prison when she got the stand. then the objective was changed. But if she wanted she could've escaped just by becoming a string and going through the bars
*OH FUCK ONLY 6 EPISODES LEFT* (or five... the title of the next is sugeesting that there is only 1 babyface episode. I *REALLY* want myself to be wrong.)
i don't think he will just disappear like what happened in the manga.. David Productions are fixing plot holes, showing backstories earlier, revealing characters earlier and they are doing all of this stuff in a fantastic way so i think they definitely have something planned for fugo
I think it'd be great if both were cannon having Fugo's grandmother die and him getting mocked for his grades slipping by his professor only for him to snap when the man makes advances on him. That would be very fitting as not only is his grief being ignored but he's being treated as an object again.
The ability of Purple Haze really fits the whole sexual assault thing too...a virus that eats flesh, not letting anyone get close, indiscriminately attacking friend or foe, even Fugo himself...it really reflects a fear of intimacy/contact as well as self resentment.
Org13fan1 I thought that too. that would have been great if they animate an ova of him that is. You will just have to direct them to do the following lol.
Fun Fact: Jojo All-Star Battle makes reference to the original idea of Fugo being a traitor by having Giorno, Bucciarati, and Diavolo all calling him as such in their Pre and Post Battle Dialogues with him.
Doctor Adventure he doesnt spit it at them. Purple haze distortion’s ability is that the virus kills everything it comes in contact with, even itself. If he breaks one in his mouth, he’ll only be slightly affected. This also shows growth in fugo. He cant get mad and break all the capsules, he’d do less damage that way.
@@yaboy9439 Within canon, however, they were perfectly fine with it. None of the gang held it against him. The quotes directly come from a hypothetical situation in which Fugo did come back as an opponent to the crew, which Araki had planned.
Not gonna lie, Araki's reasoning for writing Fugo's absence from the rest of the story kinda makes me tear up a bit. One of the most beautiful behind the scenes reasoning I have known.
@@dragon-id5uj he was going to write fugo as a traitor who attacks the gang for The Boss and then gets killed by Giorno but he was depressed at the time and the idea of a friend betraying someone made him sad
Fun Fact: Fugo didn't have a backstory nor motives in the manga, which made his decision to leave the gang a lot weirder. The reason for that is that he was originally going to be a traitor, and the gang would face him in Rome instead of Cioccolata and Secco. But this idea was scrapped, due to Araki's depression that he had while writing this part. This error was fixed in the anime, where he gained a backstory and a reasoning for him to leave the gang.
Manuel Mateo I see it like this if he went with them Bruno would have sent Fugo to guard Abbachio when he was replaying to find the boss’ face and he probably could have saved Naranacia but well never know

Wheel of fortune is supposed to be a cover up for the users inferiority. It’s a huge fancy car and he has huge muscly limbs but a weird torso. This probably why it’s so similar to strength is ability
*I just thought about fugo’s outfit and it kinda describes a bit of his character. His clothes represent his rage and he has holes in them to represent his anger and emotion leaking out.*
I think he knew. That one scene we see of Fugo looking to the sky after Narancia… he knew it was a suicidal mission, which is why he didn’t go. But he eventually found out
How is his stand considered overpowered? I mean, it’s an amazingly deadly stand, but any stand fast enough, or a stand that could stop time, or a Pillar Man, or a long range stand, or Super Fly, or an Emerald Splash (which no one can reflect), or a Thunder Cross Split Attack (which no fighter has ever blocked) could probably instantly KO Fugo.
Pretty sure we didn't get to see Fugo fight with his full capacity due to his stand being in the real realm while Fugo was in the mirror realm. Also, DIO deflected Kakyoin's Emerald Splash like they were nerf darts. The thing that makes his stand overpowered is the idea that Fugo will kill anything and everything he comes into contact with if hit with the capsules. No real effort beyond the typical JoJo Brand wall of fist. Simple yet powerful.
@@darius85 yes i agree! Like how he can't know which one of the speedwagon employees is the Hot Chili Pepper stand user, so rather than thinking he just hit both of them: a simple ability that solved his problems without needing much thought in it. Sometimes he uses it smartly though
OVer a year late on this as ive just started getting into JoJos recently lmao. I believe the sexual abuse story could be more reliable due to the compulsive cleanliness of Purple Haze (Smoke). ITs documented that many sexual abuse/worse (not comfortable just spouting the R word) have said that theyve felt "dirty" or "unclean" after things like that have happened, so going back to Purple Haze being a manifestation of his insecurity and rage, you could also relate it more to the abuse he faced as a child and it just seems to tie it in a lot more. Hope that made sense. Quarantines got me fuuuuuuuucked up.
When I look at the part where Giorno fights Cioccolata, I can just see the resemblance between his stand, Green Day and Purple Haze’s ability. There so similar that I can just see how Cioccolata might be a spin on what Araki wanted to make Fugo be. Imagine in Giorno did the 7 page muda on Fugo instead.
I would love it if before announcing Stone Ocean, David Pro did like a spin off short anime series (like 12 episodes max) and finally gave us "Purple Haze Feedback: the anime". Damn, that would be awesome.
I love that one of his reasons for staying with Passione was ‘we can’t let our emotions sway us into doing something irrational’, not only showing his rational and logical nature but also his struggles with controlling his own emotions. I think that this is one of the most impactful displays of strength seen from Fugo, as in the end he conquers his motions to do what he believes is logical and rational.
Yes! He did what Bruno expected him to do. Bruno brought him on because of his intellect, he did the logical thing. His entire life, he only did the things that were expected of him. Bruno expected him to stay behind because it was a logical decision, and Fugo lives up to that expectation. It’s why I love Purple Haze Feedback, he finally breaks free from expectation and recognizes that he wanted to go on the boat, and that he was being held down by the expectations he set for himself.
I won't lie, I thought this was gonna be a video of you roasting tf out of Fugo but this was very informative on the various aspects of his character that for better or worse couldn't get into the source material

6:30 Personally, I think these two backstories fit together really well. So they could both be canon. They don’t conflict with each other at all. And it adds more pathos behind Fugo beating the hell out of that one teacher.
Exactly. Purple Haze Feedback and the part 5 anime may give different reasons why Fugo nearly beat a professor to death, but there's no reason why both reasons couldn't coincide, and everything else pretty much lines up between the two.
Personally I love the anime backstory for fugo. It remains the only time jojo came even a little bit close to making me cry, and frankly I don’t think that’ll change.
This was a very nice breakdown on his character and i didn't even take into consideration Giorno's immunity to PH's virus. But I am a huge PHF stan so I'd like to point out one more thing; Giorno was fully prepared to kill Fugo. If Fugo denied his mission or failed it, Mista was ordered to take him out. You can interpret this as Giorno not wanting to do it himself out of sentimental reasons and adding to Mista's grief in which he lost his friends, his found family, and the one who left has returned only at the mercy of the one said traitor betrayed. People criticize the writing of the light novel because it protrays the characters in a harsher, darker light. But for me, however, I found it more realistic. These guys are still criminals and "protection" for mafias also includes threatening to destroy the establishments paying them if they fail to make those payments. Buccellati is a martyr in the canon and even moreso in the anime. I have a feeling anime-only fans are going to find Fugo's betrayl far crueler because of this. I would recommend anyone who likes Fugo to read the light novel. A quick google will bring up the pdf (one translation better than others) as you get to see just more of how Fugo acts, more expansion on his interpersonal relationships. it is also interesting to see, near the climax, [spoilers] --- when Fugo contimplates running away again, even so far as to beg the narcotics team for mercy and join them in their escape. In a way, the narcotics team is the last stand against Giorno and the remainder of the old regime. Massimo Volpe was the target, the others could have gone free. You can read that in a way of how La Squadra went after Trish and the escort team defended her with whole-hearted sacrifice. Maybe if they had just handed over Trish to la Squadra, Buccellati's team would have survived. Maybe if Massimo Volpe had been surrendered to the anti-narcos, his team would have survived. I could literally write a dissertation on why PHF is an excellent sequel to Vento Aureo, though i do have plenty of gripes with the writing in times and places.
You mean vibe check for stands on white snake and then hey what if I could control gravity for c moon and made in heaven would be i paid for the whole speedometer so I’m gonna use the whole speedometer
**after giorno became a mafia boss** Fugo: hey giorno, where's the others? Giorno: about that.... Fugo: mista, where's the others!? Goddammit Mista: yee about that..
I would really have liked it if Araki decided to stay with his ideas concerning Fugo, making him a traitor to the squad and all. It would really serve as a great twist.
It would've been much greater writing if Araki had stayed with his original plans, but I respect Araki nonetheless for going against it His heart just wasn't in it at the time
OJ is OK I don’t agree with this honestly. Araki did the right thing and it was unnecessary to have him be a traitor. Fugo didn’t need to be a traitor to write a “better story”. We even ended up having better stories in the form of PHF and Golden Heart that proved that being loyal can make great stories. Honestly it feels so arrogant for you guys to assume the route Araki took wasn’t interesting enough for you

@Insubstantial Croquembouche Nah, Araki only drew illustrations for it
Fugo is prime example of a chacter who is "blessed with suck".

Seeing as how he beat him up with an encyclopedia, he might have felt his intelligence threatened.
He also could have thought he was just trying to get him back to his place lol

Araki should've nerfed his stand. Then he wouldn'tve left.

@@ElMango14
Yeah i know the story, it was a good solution just making him leave, but also felt a little empty, it would be nice if he came back in a different saga so he could be a true good guy this time, but that wont happen for sure.
It sucks we dont see fugo again his stand objectively had the best offense if its virus infects you your screwed.
Not really. It’s like saying if the hand touches you your screwed like yes it’s true but it’s how the user weirds it taht makes it have the best offence. i don't think he will just disappear like what happened in the manga..
Agreed
Org13fan1 it would’ve been neat to combine both I agree and it would make it all the more cathartic when Fugo bashes that piece of shit’s brains in
The ability of Purple Haze really fits the whole sexual assault thing too...a virus that eats flesh, not letting anyone get close, indiscriminately attacking friend or foe, even Fugo himself...it really reflects a fear of intimacy/contact as well as self resentment.
Nicole Alexander Dark as hell, but a very good interpretation, and to me at least, it makes sense
Org13fan1 I thought that too. that would have been great if they animate an ova of him that is. You will just have to direct them to do the following lol.
Fun Fact: Jojo All-Star Battle makes reference to the original idea of Fugo being a traitor by having Giorno, Bucciarati, and Diavolo all calling him as such in their Pre and Post Battle Dialogues with him.
zigmus00A his ultimate attack also references purple haze feedback with him biting down on a purple haze capsule and spitting it onto his enemies
Nah they saw his actions in part 5 as betrayal. Not joining buccellati to defeat the boss is what they are referring to
Doctor Adventure he doesnt spit it at them.
The quotes directly come from a hypothetical situation in which Fugo did come back as an opponent to the crew, which Araki had planned.

aw man u gonna make me use a SEARCH ENGINE??

Pretty sure we didn't get to see Fugo fight with his full capacity due to his stand being in the real realm while Fugo was in the mirror realm. Also, DIO deflected Kakyoin's Emerald Splash like they were nerf darts.
A quick google will bring up the pdf (one translation better than others) as you get to see just more of how Fugo acts, more expansion on his interpersonal relationships. it is also interesting to see, near the climax, [spoilers] ---
when Fugo contimplates running away again, even so far as to beg the narcotics team for mercy and join them in their escape.

I always loved Fugo. Especially the part he throws his jacket on the ground.
would love for giorno to turn the capsles into apples or something and throw them at people
Lmao
Hannibal buress.

dude if fugo was still in the gang
he could have killed diavolo by his stand easily because of the virus
*dont tell me its weak*
If the boss didn't have a time manipulating ability, then yes. It would be very easy
why would we tell you its weak? its not. It can literally dissolve any living thing.
Diavolo is bullshit and would work around Fugo ridiculously easily. Especially when Diavolo would know about Purple Haze.
its weak
HOWEVER, if he does manage to SOMEHOW get a good hit on him, game over.

You mean vibe check for stands on white snake and then hey what if I could control gravity for c moon and made in heaven would be i paid for the whole speedometer so I’m gonna use the whole speedometer
Emporio: HOUSE
Tiziano: C a p
Fugo had so much potential with his stand I'm pretty sure he could've killed diavolo without any help if he had more balls
more balls like josefumi?
And with proper strategy
Yep, he need more than 6 virus balls
If diavolo got infected and erased himself purple haze virus would probably still be there if he didn’t see it coming, probably
What a funny joke, honestly.
**after giorno became a mafia boss**
Fugo: hey giorno, where's the others?
Giorno: about that....
Fugo: mista, where's the others!? Goddammit
Mista: yee about that..
*That's how mafia works*
Fugo knew people would die
@@ElMango14 He saw aero flying one last time, but idk if he knew it's because narancia died

KING CRIMSON
I would really have liked it if Araki decided to stay with his ideas concerning Fugo, making him a traitor to the squad and all. It would really serve as a great twist.
It would've been much greater writing if Araki had stayed with his original plans, but I respect Araki nonetheless for going against it
His heart just wasn't in it at the time
Gummiverzehren I would love to see a alternate story/timeline where fugo does go full on traitor and how that unfolds
OJ is OK it’s honestly BS to think him being a traitor makes things “objectively better”. The route he went was still great
OJ is OK I don’t agree with this honestly. Araki did the right thing and it was unnecessary to have him be a traitor. Fugo didn’t need to be a traitor to write a “better story”. We even ended up having better stories in the form of PHF and Golden Heart that proved that being loyal can make great stories. Honestly it feels so arrogant for you guys to assume the route Araki took wasn’t interesting enough for you
@@carlbloke8797 his route was leaving the series
Anything is better than that
