- A scene from John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) starring Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Donnie Yen (Caine), and Scott Adkins (Killa). Caine and Wick swear at Killa in Chinese for cheating in a card game.
#johnwick4 #keanureeves #donnieyen #johnwick #johnwickchapter4
I love how all three of them just looked at each other and mutually agreed to beat the shit out of Killa and his men.
While I may not have been a fan of Chapter 4 - my favorites are still the first two - I love the chemistry these three characters had. Even if we may not have Keanu appearing in the next film as this one complete his character's arc really well, I hope to see some more of Mr. Nobody and maybe even Caine if they do the route of him versus Akira.
"Mr Wick, youre such a shithead. But killa is worse than you fr."
I'm pretty sure only two of them looked at each other........
@@nicofrancisco3216I got the joke😂
@@skullvitch2 This movie destroyed any value the previous 3 had lol, having what happened happen to our boy was a robbery. He never got a chance to enjoy a week of peace and quiet with his dog and thoughts. What a waste.
Yeah, POK GAI HAM GA CHAN, I'm impressed of Reeves' cantonese
What does Pok Gai exactly mean in English? I've seen it translated into multiple English words on movie subtitles.
@@LeonWick526 if you don’t mind, just some knowledge on Chinese cursing culture here. Beijing swearing curses the subject of low class background. For example, the word “ya” (丫)is used which means very lady servant.
Shanghai swearing curses the subject of property for example “sho ce lo” (小赤裸)means naked, too poor to have clothes on, “sho pe se” (小瘪三)means empty stomach.
While Cantonese swearing likes cursing of bad fortune. Here “pok gai” (扑街) means tripping. “Ham ga chan ” (冚家产)means death of the entire family.
Hope this helps.
@@yangz1803 Thanks.
Actually, the translation of what Donnie said is completely different. The real translation for what he said is " What a motherf@#*"ng bastard."😅
@@BDTXIII Well that is basically the meaning, cantonese have its own dirty words
Two Hitmen: **wants to kill John**
Killa: **cheats at poker**
Two Hitmen: *"We'll make an exception for ten minutes."*
Actually one of them wants John to be at the duel and the other one wants to raise John's price
@@pinapple_pizza that doesn't necessarily detract from my statement
@@pinapple_pizzathis happened before john’s challanged for the duel so caine know nothing about the duel yet
lmfao
👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I knew Donnie Yen would be good in this movie but the fact they also made him organically funny with moments like these just make me want a whole trilogy about Caine
In many ways, Caine is Wick's foil in this film. He's a close range fighter to John's long range. He is a reluctant fighter to John's ruthless nature. Where John's goal is self driven, Caine is trying to save another. But in this scene, you can see another side as well. While John is somber and focused, Caine is sarcastic and flippant. You can also see it in their fighting style. John is methodical and takes no chances (he has talent, but is built on practice) while Caine fights like he is dancing and liberally flourishes in a fight, not because he's showing off, but because he's literally just that good (he is very skilled, but you can see that this is his nature).
it would be kind of funny if this was ad-libbed, or maybe at least planned out by Yen and Reeves and only they knew about it
@@machdude3366I feel like his reluctance comes from his inability to see, maybe he fought differently when he had his sight
@@isaacyeon6334
His difference compared to John is that he attacks very aggressively compared to John's methodical precision. Being blind actually makes it seem like he is also taking more risks as well since he has to attack wider to increase his chances of hitting. As a result of this, he looks like he's dancing in combat because he actually has to commit to the attack. That being said, his assurance in his own ability is built from experience and talent as he can still put up such a fight despite his disability.
His story is that he gave up his sight to get out of the business. You can see the shift in his movements when he is at rest vs. in combat. You can see him feeling himself in battle while he was in the kitchen fight. His moves flow into each other and he is liberally using dynamic movements that others would hesitate to use and only pulling back when he can deliver a relatively nonlethal hit. This is in contrast to when he fights in Keela's lounge where he ruthlessly weaves his way through his assailants.
Man does everything have to be made as a movie? Can't you just enjoy the mysterious nature of his character?
Me and my sis almost died trying to hold our laugh in the theatre LOL.
Keanu is the greatest!
Same
We didn't care 😂😂😂😂 we died laughing
RIP to you guys.
John wick says yeah so good badass
If you understand Cantonese, this is really hilarious. The entire cinema just roared with laughter at this scene.
An American learning some Cantonese to pretend like he's linguistic assassin is stupidly hilarious.🤣, Even Duolingo scared of him
when they spoke Cantonese, is that how you say prick in Cantonese?
@joshua5555 nah its pretty nuch two curse words together that would way more harsh than "prick" in english 😂
Actually use “motherfxxker” is more suitable to use “prick” in cantonese
@@imjustatool9247 Don't use for say hello in Hong Kong
I do want to point out: the movie translates it as "total prick" or "cheating prick" but the literal translation (commonly) of what Caine said is “Another prick whose family died”
dllmhgc
Well, yeah, but who doesn't understand localization liberties in 2023?
Ooooh. So much more savage!
wiped out*
Actually pok gai means "hope you fall down in the street." And ham ga chan means "hope all your family dies/crippled."
Keanu spoke very well on that Cantonese bad slang. I laughed out loud in the theater while everyone was quiet. Embarrassing.
He said the line with a style of himself talking normally, which made it hilarious 😂 my friends and I were laughing at this scene when Keanu replied in Cantonese
It also looks like Keanu didn't know what that means exactly, but sounds like a curse so he just mimicked
@@RoboLivestreamsdonning did speak English at first
@@qiang2884 Donnie taught Keanu so Keanu knew
Lol me too and I watched daytime so there wasn’t a lot of people i was the only one laughing so loud wahahaha and clapped my hands
Thank you so much to Donnie Yen and Keanu Reeves for bringing the best feature of Cantonese to the big screen!
Pok gai hum ka chan? lololololol
Either that or 5 cigarettes
The neat feature is to insult someone.
Guess I should start learning Cantonese
@@kookieman2227the neat feature is that insulting someone is as conversational as chatting about the weather. Also they did way more than call him a prick.
@@faffywhosmilesatdeath5953What more did they say
i’m from hong kong, and when this scene came up, the entire cinema laughed so loud (which is quite rare because people tend to keep quiet while watching movies)
Well, not only Hongkongers. But Han people in Southern China, Guangzhou, and Cantonese Americans can understand the joke too.
Not unless the grannies are in there! I know now why they created the term, "Chinese Whispers".
I love how Wick and Cain look at Nobody, as if they're expecting him to join in with the Cantonese.
Gotta be multilingual if you’re a hitman in this universe
Well actually Caine can't look at somebody as he can't see 🤓
@@Shappuuuu6th sense??
John Wick turned into John Woo for a second there
Well, someone has to pick up for the Woo man! Considering he got so badly used here in America for mostof his run!

I'm Chinese and I watched this in a private theater with my friends. Although we don't speak Cantonese this had all of us rolling in laughter
Pok Gai Ham Ga Caan is universal
true
Private theater wtf
There is no equivalent in Mandarin Chinese
It’s so much funnier when you can actually understand Canto
Is it different than what the subtitles say?
@@GhostEye31 very. Pok Gai = Fall on the street and die.
Ham gar Chan = death you your entire family.
The subtitles offered a very watered down translation of the real meaning.
@@GhostEye31 Kinda hard to give a more proper translation, basically it was two things but both of them are cursing "death" to the person.
Puk KaI direct translation means "fall on the street" but the hidden meaning is related to "die on the street violently". In English then would be "fucker (gonna get fucked)"
Hamp Ga Chan direct translation means "entire family eliminated", not much of hidden meaning. In English then would be "you are so fucked (and your family will get fucked too)"
@@GhostEye31 Dirty words don't have to be translated very percised because it's more like an expression nowadays, but it's nothing wrong with learning the true meaning of those.
@@taskdon769 its more like 'fxking bastard' for 'pok gai ham ga chan'
Even a blind man can tell that killa cheated. Must mean he's a terrible cheat. Lol
Well John did just tell him what he did
@@PRESIDENT_LEMON He had an idea before John told him...
@@PRESIDENT_LEMON he said "let me guess, five of a kind?" to which they both responded with "yeah". So he already knew before John told him.
Keanu Reeves swearing in Cantonese made my day 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Watching this in a cinema in HK was the best, the whole theater burst into laughter! 😂
Let me guess… five of a kind?
Yeah….
Made my whole year
Honestly, pretty cool reference to a poker variant a lot of people don't know. Majority of people just play Texas Hold Em' poker, so most people think that royal flushes is the best hand, but very few people know about five-of-a-kind.
When IP Man has had enough with the Sergeant, he ask Neo and Nobody for help
The subtitle for what Donny Yen said "Pokai Hamkachan", as ""Prick", is a total understatement. This shit is hilarious.
when john wick says your family is getting bulldozed, he is bringing the bulldozer
Keanu's Cantonese wasn't bad at all but it's how the dialogue is written that makes it hilarious
Keanu reeves said more words in those three seconds of cantonese than in the entire rest of the movie.
0:13「又係一條仆街冚家剷!!」
「Yeah,仆街冚家剷......」
The Google translate here is funny too... (On phone)
@@PrograErrorit's not correct though 😂 you can't translate something like that
I just love how John, Caine and Nobody just looked at each other and mutually agreed they will kill Killa and all his men
lmao...it is actually ALOT MORE insulting than the subtitle suggest. WAY MORE !
When I was watching this in the cinemas the row behind me and my friends thought we were crazy cuz the instant they swore in Cantonese we just laughed.
Props to Scott Adkins. An underrated legend. Definitely one of my favorites
I fell out when I found out it was Scott Adkins under there. He did a great job!
Keanu reeves grandmother is actually Chinese
Pok Gai Hum Ga Chan = Pok Gai(fell face down on the street) Hum Ga Chan(whole family dead)
I FLIPPED WHEN THE CANTO CAME UP
Keanu Reeves doing his Chinese ancestors proud with that line 😂
Good thing he didn't turn into IP man lmao
It's really funny when you understand cantonese. Didn't expect Reeves to say that!
To be honest, as Cantonese is my mother language. "Total Prick" isn't as expressive😂. Instead, I think more appropriate expressive is "Fucking asshole" 😂
But is is very surprise that there have Cantonese in this movie even Donny Yan is acting this movie😂
I never learned Chinese, probably all those phrases i heard in some movies were Mandarin, Cantonese is something else :) or maybe tone based langauge are above my level .
Yeah...thats probably more accurate... PK is extremely tame nowadays. I use it too much 😂

I first heard the word "Pokgai" in GTA San Andreas in the mission "Mountain Cloud Boys", so hearing Donnie Yen using it in a John Wick movie was to damn funny Lmao
Keep running son.. ROFL 🤣🤣
i laughed so hard when I watch this scene on plane hahahaha
Even Nobody said yeah as well. PERFECT
That sounded hilarious and bizarre all at once!
The funniest thing about this are the subtitles when Caine accused Killa of being a cheating prick. The literal, paraphrased translation to what Caine said in Cantonese was "fu*k you, you and your entire family gonna end up dead." like, the subtitles were so harmless and sweet just for us the audience :')
Bruh i wish we see more of caine.
Imagine the day when john and caine still active mercilessly killing.
I live how they did not even try to not make look like an trained fighter in a fatsuit and just let him go ham.
here keanu sounds like hes just trying to blend in by copying what donnie yen said
FYI, "POKE-GUY-HANDKERCHIEF-CHAN" means "Hello, have a nice day", so... use it whenever you can!
You swear well, Mr. Wick.

I'm really curious at this point how many languages can Keanu say a phrase or two in.

Donnie Yen. Donnie Yen.
Sleeping dogs taught me that Pok gai is an insult!
Fun fact: at 0:23 his cards aren't 5 twos
Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins were both in Ip Man 4 years ago.
Growing up watching HK stuff I thought I knew swears, but after marrying a GuangZhou person, I realized those we’re all the tv and movie friendly swears… they have such deep culture 😂
watching this in Hong Kong cinema made this scene more hilarious.
holy crap it's IP man himself
Surprised they didn't use "dew leh no mo!"
Donnie yen and Scott Adkins meet again, I didn't know Scott Adkins was in John Wick 4
Technically a 5 of a kind is possible, the just need to be playing with Jokers.
But the thing is his side had no Jokers, all of them were suits (which is impossible for a single deck)
pog guy, hum ga chan xD
We all know they both did not say “total prick”
When I first saw this for some reason I thought the big guy was Gerard Butler in a fat suit. It was his hair and face I think.
Total prick is an understatement. It’s more like this guy fall on the street, and (unrelated) his/her whole family died except him/her.
Iwas hoping the 3rd guy would say the same thing
Haven't heard flower bridge in Cantonese 😂
I like the 5 of a kind line better!
Shame on you Donnie Yen. Shame on you.
Its okay Bingchilling
Ppl in hk went nuts in the cinema xD
