Classic Mini Rear Arch Removal

- Typically speaking, removing items is far easier than refitting new items. Well… removing the rear arch on my classic mini was wonderfully tedious. The existing metal was near paper thin so separating the bad from the good was a challenge. All in all, the job was successful and now I’m ready to install the new arch ~Lone Star Mini
Randy, As a first time restorer you have set this whole job up to such a high standard and pre planned so much in advance the shell
will be top notch, I have WhatsApp you on the repair panel flange which goes on the inside the arch or wheel tub and a few other
questions you have as it will take too long to explain it all in the comments, Give me a call back tonight when your home from work

Great insight Randy, I'm on the same bit of the restoration as you. People don't realise how long it takes to line up/prep and fit, it takes an age!

Great video, that arch closing panel does not overlap the arch, would make it a massive watertrap if you think of the car the right way up!. Also the closing panel 3 panel sandwich from factory is seam welded along its length and also along the heal board. Good luck with it 👍
Thanks Wabistix.... hmm.. I thought I had 'puzzled' it correctly.. I may do a video on just that panel because it's not perfectly clear and it was all patch work when I cut it out...
Hi mate great to see you really getting stuck in again! Just a note, the bin closing panel underlaps the front of the arch not overlaps. I figure this is because the wheel throws water and crud on to the arch which would then dribble down the arch, if it overlaps this will all go in to the joint. If it underlaps then it will flow down the arch and drip to the floor.

When welding the metal disk into floor you STOP holes by getting 1.5inch or 22mm copper water pipe hamer it flat on vice anvil about 3inch long put it behind hold with glove or larger strong speaker magnet . It works a treat as it suck out heat so stops worping and weld dont stick to it...
Quite a few mistakes were made prior to learning the lesson of backing it with a good copper plate. thanks for the info... Heck.. I'm still working on my welding.

@@andywhitelaw6957 Well.. Literally when I hit a wall (like not starting), I do something small. That small action builds into a proper task and small feeling of accomplishment. My fear is falling prey to the hundreds of unfinished mini restorations. Outside of uncontrollable life events, I can't let that happen. I'm for you Andy!!

Another good video. That e-coat on the inside of the arch looks really bad. That closing panel goes on the othetside of the arch!
Hmm.. not sure what you mean, but I have puzzled it and I think I know how it goes.. the closing panel laps over the arch on the arch side. Then it laps over the companion bin panel to mate up flush to the boot floor. The Companion bin then fits flush to the top face of the closeout panel... I believe this is how it goes. I looked at my old footage, but my currently metal was all patch work so I could not 100% determine.. but based on the bends/folds of boot, bin and closeout, I think this is the way it goes.. I may do a short video on just that...
