  • In preparation of restoring my subframes on my classic mini, the Radius arms were the first item on the list to re-build. Consequently, I had to learn how to disassemble and assemble which introduced some interesting details that I was unaware of - specifically should I use Plastic or Metal grease tubes and what exact was their function…

    Randy, I'm glad my WhatsApp to you yesterday about turning on the comments made you look at your channel settings. This has to be one of the best videos about radius
    arms on UA-cam. It would be great if you could do a follow up on the modification where you can add a grease nipple on the inner bushing or using a double bearing instead
    of a brass sleeve. If you can grease both ends and not the middle of the shaft which does nothing but move the grease from one end to the other it makes sense. Cheers Dave

      Thank you Dave… means a great deal coming from you. I have the general knowledge of adding a grease nipple on the bushing side, but don’t believe I have the tools for a clean and centered hole..

    I freaking loved every second of this video. Super informative and I learnt many things I didn’t know as well as the importance of its actual purpose. Well done mate. Glad to see you back on UA-cam 👌🏼

      Thanks Chris!! I'm not back on a weekly basis, but perhaps I will attempt to show my progress in a few short videos in the near future. Currently working my rear subframe so I guess that will be my subject line for a bit..

    Cool.. I don't have a reemiing tool. I was going to do radious arms myself like you said the kits are cheap enough but the tool in uk is around £140 us around $170 UK have people who do reconditioned radious arms fully painted for £120/150 so it may be more cost effective to swap mine out! 👍

    • @LoneStarMini
      @LoneStarMini  10 місяців тому +1

      Right on… I have more than one mini to do, therefore purchasing a reaming tool and doing everything myself is more beneficial….

    The nylon sleeves crack very easily when using a proper grease gun. I had my radius arms rebuilt and when I greased them up I noticed it was taking way too much. I dismantled the arms, removed the cracked nylon sleeves and replaced them with the metal ones from Japan. Do it cheap then do it twice.

    • @LoneStarMini
      @LoneStarMini  9 місяців тому

      Right on…. I believe they also crack during installation and people don’t even notice because they can’t see it. You may never need other tubes, but they are available at a much better price and better quality than Japan…. Thanks for sharing your experience!!

      The zinc plated tubes are from CATMINT although Mini Spares now sells them. The ones from Japan are from “Classic Minis Japan” (just Google the name). The ones from Germany (my favorite) are made by Daniel and his email is dani@strasserhof.com. Hope that helps
