      Souvenir is cool, but even better are the memories! Great hospitality and waves. I’ll never forget ES 😎

    Have u changed the emulsion tubes ?
    Or another ball park ?

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  2 роки тому +1

      Have changed emulsion. I just pulled my plugs today from a 500 mile brand new engine, and the plugs look spectacular. Also the exhaust is showing perfect color with no carbon build up. I’m at zero elevation and running 50 idles with 150 main, one turn out on mixture screw.

    Hey, just curious. I’m getting ready to buy heads. Was thinking going with 88mm thick walled cylinders. Any reservations going with 88s? Also which AA heads did you go with?

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Scott, I don’t have any reservations or regrets (so far) about the thick wall 88’s. After having them, I don’t want to ever use the thinner ones again. Even if I was going to build a bigger engine, I’d build around the thick wall 92’s. Mine did have some poor casting though, and I made a vid about dremeling around the fin seams to fix that. Seems to have worked on this 1800 I’m running now.
      I didn’t use the AA heads in this build. My brother used them on his 1679, and he thinks the valve guides might be sub par.
      I used EMPI GTV-2’s on the 1800. They felt a lot sturdier in hand than the AA’s…wish I could’ve made a comparison vid for ya. Basically, bang for the buck you get an ok set of heads from AA 500 series. I prefer to spend just a little extra for better heads. My 2 cents

    You have done an amazing good job on that 1800. It sounds fantastic and looks like it pulls hard. I do believe that is "Wild Bill"s bus at 7:37! You guys are lucky to live down south. I used to live in Tallahassee FL and who knows I may move back there one day. Keep up the great work and I look forward to what is to come! Enjoy the vee-dubs and ya'll take care - Ted from N.C.

      Yea sir that was Wild Bill’s Bus! I wish I would’ve had the camera rolling when my daughter approached it and his little dog jumped up from a seat and scared the mess out of her!😂
      Yes I do love me some Gulf Coast living! Nice to hear from you Ted, take care buddy!

    Did you use the CSP Bellcrank linkage. Long term review do you like the linkage?

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Mike we’ll I thinks it’s only been about 4 months, but it is holding up well. Before, I felt like I had to ‘tune’ the hexbar linkage as well as the carbs, like they linkage was actually a part of the tune. Now I feel like I can tune JUST THE CARBS, get the CSP connected and it’s good to go.
      I have been looking for some play to develop on the bellcrank itself, since there’s no bracket up high, like the old school bellcrank. So far so good. I guess if I had to wonder something it’d be how long will the bearing inside the bellcrank holds up, but that seems easily replaceable. Only more time will tell

      Not on the Bus, but when (not if) that engine comes out, it’ll get it for sure. I love hi-tops! Thanks for checking it out

    So, you went with the chrome moly pushrods? Are you going to block off those holes in the rear tin?

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  2 роки тому

      😂 I knew you’d remember the chromolys! Naw man, I did the grease fit check on the stock rods a few more times, and the fit seemed good🤷🏻‍♂️ so I stayed away from the weight and noise of chromoly….for now. Figure it’s a chance to see how the stock PR fit those lifters once and for all.
      What holes?

    • @vintage76vipergreenBeetle
      @vintage76vipergreenBeetle 2 роки тому +1

      @@bomberobus Sorry, about that. I watch the video again, and the holes in the rear engine tins are blocked. The camera angle threw me off. Glad to hear the stock pushrods work out for you. You and EZGZ are the only 2 guys that notice that issue. No one else the builds vw engines on youtube has made a video about that. Good luck with 1800 👍

      To be continued on that. Fuel gauge is out of order but I’m going to do an eyeball estimate soon. Man I hope it’s at least 20 mpg

    Great engine and nice sound too. You have a nice turnout of fellow VW owners. I went from an underpowered 1500 single port in my 71 Beetle to a 1600 newly built out to 1916cc. You are right about having the power to cruise with modern cars. Ozzy drivers are just as impatient.

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Andy. Yup, everyone loves a VW until it’s holding them up in traffic😂. Funny to hear Ozzy drivers are the same. I’ll bet your 1916 has you a bit “safer” on the road 👍

      @@bomberobus Yes, I should ignore the bad drivers, they frustrate me. Like it requires a lot of thought and arm muscles to use your indictor apparently. I could keep going ,but I won't. Yes my 1916 engine s a good strong cruiser. No stupid fast race car, but built to last. I'll get to the fast motor build as a project one day.
