I think you guys got it 😂😂😂😂 still remember the first time I heard that song on vinyl at my mates place. It was so fresh. The live version is another level.
That's awesome! There's something special about hearing a song for the first time, especially on vinyl. And you're right, the live version often takes it to another level with the energy and spontaneity of the performance. It's great that the song has left such a lasting impression on you! 😄🎶
The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising. It's nice that you enjoyed it so much.🤗 What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having. Making a living like that wouldn't suck.
Absolutely! The studio version of this song is perfect for cruising, with its catchy melody and laid-back vibe. It's great to hear that you enjoyed it too! And you're right, watching the band have so much fun while performing is truly infectious. Making a living doing what you love, especially while having fun, sounds like a dream come true. 🎶🚗😊
Great rework. This was one of my bands growing up. Mark Knophhler, the lead guitarist and singer. He’s literally a genius. He’s written sound tracks for movies The princess bride ,,, prob his biggest box office success. Huge movie in the 90’s. If you want to know more about him and research if unique finger style guitar playing. He highly regarded as one of the best ever finger style guitarists ever. And he’s such a great story teller in his songs! That’s what makes him truly truly special. No one did what he did…. The way he did it. He is and was a gift to us. And music fan.
TELEGRAPH ROAD, from this concert is a must, you won't be disappointed its a masterpiece. Mark Knopfler wrote the words, music, arranged it, sang it and played his guitar as only he can, TELEGRAPH ROAD is the same. The mans a genius really.. Well done 👏👏👏
It was amazing. I was there, I was 18years old and 39 years later I have so much fun watching it again You have to watch Telegraph Road from the same gig Seeing this and your reaction makes me so happy The star was Terry Williams on the drums
Yes, the drummer was amazing. The electric guitars were of course, phenomenal, but this performance wouldn’t be one of the best live performances you will see without that drummer. The drumming is a HUGE part of what makes this great.
So glad you enjoyed it & thank you for having the respect for not speaking over the top of such a magnificent performance. MK is the musical equiv. of Senna was in F1. This was 41 years ago & pure genius arranging by MK. xoxo
There were 2 guys playing multiple keyboards. And the drummer was awesome. But the guitarists, in particular Mark Knopler, who is so talented, were so wonderful. Love it.
Telegraph Road same concert is even better with epic ending and lots of peaks and troughs. Love your channel guys and reactions. Cheers from Australia 👍👍
Dire Straits, they have quite a lot more masterpieces...each masterpiece is telling a story...takes you along that journey with the song. The 'embracing' as you described it...😉 Some masterpieces are so great and powerful that it will bring tears to your eyes...fills you with incredible emotions...and that's the Gods given unique talent of Mark Knopfler...the songwriter, lead singer and guitarist...these masterpieces can make you feel a certain way or hit straight to your soul 😉. It was great to see Sultan of Swing had brought some smiles on your faces...cheers to that 🍻!
I'm loving all these classic rock reactions. Legendary bands in the golden days of music. I've heard all these before but it's fun to refresh them and seeing you guys react to this new world you're discovering.
"Dire Straight - Telegraph Road Live (alchemy Tour 1983)" you haven't even scratched the surface...you guys are so much fun to watch. lol glad I found your channel, hope to see you do more classic rock, theirs loads more great music like this to explore. This type of rock will take you on an incredible journey, with poetry set to music 🔥🎸🤗🎶✌🏼💖
I will give you a bit of the back story about this song, so as to possibly make it intriguingly enough to give it a listen. At the time Mark Knopfler (Lead vocalist, guitarist) was reading the novel "The Growth of the Soil" by the Nobel Prize winning Norwegian Knut Hamsun (while traveling on this very road) and he was inspired to put the two together and write a song about the beginning of the development along Telegraph Road and the changes over the ensuing decades. This road really exists, it runs for 79.828 miles (128.471 Km) as a major north-south state trunkline highway from Bedford Township at the Ohio state line, thru Metro Detroit and was built in 1847. Not trying to interfere in your reaction, only to add context to what the songs about, hope this helps.👍🎶
Outstanding Reaction!!!! Done the correct way...no interruptions, play it through then review. Andy, watching you throughout the song was a joy to me. Can't tell you how much your obvious joy reflects exactly how I react every time I listen to this rendition. Now I want you to do what I've always done; I almost always listen to this, and other Rock songs, when I'm driving. Try driving and letting your natural love of this song respond. You end up looking whacked out. At 76 now I try not to listen to rock when I'm driving so as to avoid having folks call ahead for cops and an ambulance.
This was up there with Bruce Springsteen '85 born in the USA Wembley, Pink Floyd '94 Pulse Earls Court as must see gigs. They were truly immersive and Emotive concerts, certainly the best I've ever attended. Love that you were getting the same hit from it now as we got nearly 40 years ago
That’s awesome that you got to attend the concerts! & you know a certain song, band or type of music is amazing when even 40+ years later it’s still enjoyable Ahaha!
@@SimplyTwoDudes too right, and when young people can appreciate 40 - 50 years later thanks to platforms like this our "old geezer" music can still bring enjoyment.🎸🤘
Mark Knopfler lead guitar Hal Lindes, Rhythm guitar John Illsey bass guitar Terry Williams drums Alan Clark keys And guest keyboards for these shows, Tommy Mandel
Only Mark and John still there from the original recording in 1978. This gig was in 1983. Thank you guys for not interrupting the video. It was great to see your reaction. Greetings from Yorkshire, in the North of England.
This song got Dire Straits' career started, but the 1978 studio version is much shorter than this and has almost completely different personnel. The band went through changes and this "Alchemy Live" concert from 1984 features the new group, most noticeably to me the new drummer, Terry Williams. Now I can't listen to the original any more. Luckily there's a live album of this concert.
That "softer" section was mostly created by the percussion dropping out. Makes you feel like you're floating. You may notice Pentatonix uses that technique sometimes.

It befuddles and boggles the mind, how one of the most famous rock bands, playing one of the most famous songs from what's considered to be the most iconic rock performances of all time - Which has been out there on every platform available for over 40 years, and you're just now hearing & seeing it for the first time ? Nobody can fill a song with tasteful guitar licks like Knopfler
Not a bunch of electronic noise. This was pure talent with no artificial help

It's one of the best, and most uplifting live performances I've ever seen. Even the part where Mark plays the sadly mournful guitar is beautiful.
Terry Williams on drums !!!!
I know!!! I can’t believe they didn’t mention the drummer!! Such a big part of this performance!! 😩
Mr Knopfler sure has his own, totally unique style of guitar playing, and it's impossible not to love it!
