My husband is a plastic surgeon. While he runs a small hospital in the city center, our monthly income is in the millions. However, Nelson is a globally renowned doctor. Typically, when doctors of his caliber retire, many prestigious hospitals scout them and offer astronomical salaries along with incentives tied to the hospital's overall revenue. If Nelson hadn't given up his profession, the money he would have earned by now would have been tens of times more than his current salary. I deeply appreciate his service, and my husband, as a fellow doctor, holds Nelson in high regard.

I want to see a video showing how much the LDS church donates compared to other evangelical or Christian denominations. For example, according to the US Revenue Department, in 2023, the LDS Church donated $1.2 Billion. Can we see how much other religions donate in comparison?

Not much. If you look at the actual donations, most of it is “in kind,” not actual dollars. They count things like the monetary cost of their voluntary labor and even every canned veg they give to their worshippers from their food stores. It’s surprising to me when people bring this up. Do you not know that the church gives very little in monetary donations compared to many other churches or that they boost their total by nickel and dimming what they consider “donations” it’s a scam on every level.

This stipend that the Prophets and Apostles have is an allowance. It cannot be spent to buy or acquire property and how it was spent must be reported and accounted for every month. Considering the millions they would have had if they retired and did not serve as Church leadership, I must say that they truly are living the Law of Consecration.

Yes it does.. when you realize he gave up his retirement and his savings and lives on less than 1/4 of the AVERAGE income of a heart surgeon (his career he gave up to serve the church). He was a leader in the field- would have easily been making way more than 1MM a year for decades. He would have millions in the bank and could retire in the most lavish of locations if he didn't give it up to serve the church. Also, when you consider that the leader of any other organization worth 150B would easily be making BILLIONS of dollars- and he takes home a measly 190K - Less than any doctor, lawyer, executive manager, programmer, business owner, or consultant.. He doesn't have a stockpile of billions of dollars anywhere - he will likely leave his children with little inheritance.. Your envy is astounding.

@@forceman911 Lol "my envy." Why do Morms always go to personal attacks? I can't just be wrong, I have to have a major personality flaw. Your culture is based on shaming and gaslighting others into conformity.
That said, Rusty would have retired from being a surgeon 30+ years ago, and all the years of 6 figure stipends and many other benefits (free housing, free transportation, free healthcare, etc) he's gotten since the 80s, when you stack all that against the additional 10 years pay he would have had as a surgeon, would probably have not been as drastic a difference as you implied. Even if it had been, inside sources have revealed being a Gen authority is basically a cushy paid retirement where you're also an adored celebrity. His enormous ego (we know he has one based on his exaggerated lies about himself, like his disproven airplane story) would have made that kind of transition conceivably tempting.
But all of that discussion is actually a distraction from what matters. The point is they're making way more than most of the hard working members whose tithes they live off of, and they pretend leaders aren't paid, and there is nothing Christlike or honest about any of that. Christ's biblical church basically taught leaders to not care about money at all. It's a scam.

Spin it and justify it how you will. The brethren are more like Nehorites. "(D)eclaring unto the people that every priest and teacher ought to become popular; and they ought not to labor with their hands, but that they ought to be supported by the people."
I find it equally interesting that prophecy is fulfilled a multitude of times. Why do we have a fast offering and tithing? What is the declared purpose of tithing?
JST Genesis 14:38 "Him whom God had appointed to receive tithes for the poor."
      Repeating prophecy:
"32 Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be churches built up that shall say: Come unto me, and for your money you shall be forgiven of your sins.
33 O ye wicked and perverse and stiffnecked people, why have ye built up churches unto yourselves to get gain? Why have ye transfigured the holy word of God, that ye might bring damnation upon your souls? Behold, look ye unto the revelations of God; for behold, the time cometh at that day when all these things must be fulfilled.
34 Behold, the Lord hath shown unto me great and marvelous things concerning that which must shortly come, at that day when these things shall come forth among you.
35 Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing.
36 And I know that ye do walk in the pride of your hearts; and there are none save a few only who do not lift themselves up in the pride of their hearts, unto the wearing of very fine apparel, unto envying, and strifes, and malice, and persecutions, and all manner of iniquities; and your churches, yea, even every one, have become polluted because of the pride of your hearts.
37 For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted."
      Mormon 8:32-37
I have a testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. I can no longer sustain the brethren of the Church. It is well known that a 30 year old mission president with a family is going to need a living allowance to support his family while he works 100+ hours a week to serve in that calling. It's my understanding that none of the Lord's commandments are conditional as to why He specifically, at any point in time, wants me to keep them. I've never asked why. Commandments aren't bargained for exchanges. They aren't 'deals'. I don't consider that my trust and faith in Him requires him to explain His undoubtedly limitless reasons. I only need to be sure of my own reasons. His ways are perfect. He is the source and personification of all love and He has no other purposes for anything He does other than to bring about my (our) everlasting joy and happiness. The fundamental reason I must tithe and also strive to keep the letter and the spirit of every commandment only has to be because I promised I would. I've entered all of His covenants. He is my perfect creator, master, Savior and King. The most valuable thing I own and have complete free will and choice to absolutely, entirely control is what I want to do with my integrity. I am so thankful I don't have to analyse, evaluate and guess what His covenants and commandments need to specifically provide to me in return - in order to make a decision as to which commandments I'm going to keep and which ones I, in my ignorance, determine are not worth keeping. I tithe because the Lord commands it. Once the money is out of my hands, regardless of what the church does with the money, I have kept my promise, my covenants and His commandment. Except for my God, His church and my wife, every penny I use elsewhere requires a good reason(s) that I get something of value in exchange for it. But God, church and wife has always been, far and away, the best money I've ever spent. It makes no difference to me what the recipients did with it. I kept my promise. If I give money to a beggar asking for food or gas, I have no Idea whether that is what it will be truly used for. It doesn't matter. In His mortal ministry, Christ didn't give, help, love, perform miracles, or do or give anything to anyone conditionally as to what they would do with it after he provided to them. If I were looking to find ways out of His church, I would probably start by looking for reasons not to keep His commandments, not to trust His anointed, not to believe His word, etc. I would probably then start my own church -with a television ministry, a mega church stadium meeting place, ask for tithes and donations, and wind up in jail for tax evasion and money laundering.

You know what they say about assuming... right? You attribute total revenue of book sales directly to Pres. Nelson, too, despite Deseret Book being the actual publisher and distributor of the books. And, if he were to receive additional compensation from book sales that come from voluntary purchase from members and non-members alike, how is that incriminating of him? We don't even know that he is or isn't making anything additional off book sales. Could very well be that whatever the leaders (all paid equally) receive as a living allowance is all they receive regardless of book sales. Proceeds could then be used for further investment into the reserves for the church and other functions. I'd imagine if I had book sales that equated the books authored by Pres. Nelson have totaled, I'd be making more than any calculations you've projected here. And, that would be just book sales alone, not counting any of the decisions he makes that influence the billions managed through investments, charities, actual church properties, and education. If anyone is getting a raw deal for what he's compensated, it's him - no the tithe-paying members of the church. Especially since whatever our general authorities are paid doesn't come from one cent of tithes and offerings.

Most heart surgeons retire around age 60-65. Nelson was called to be an apostle at age 60, so it wasn't really a pay cut. He receives his fat retirement check plus his salary from the Church while the Church preaches that there is no paid ministry. If somebody receives a retirement check, and has most likely accumulated some good wealth as a heart surgeon in the US, I don't understand why he receives a Church salary in the 6 digits on top of that. What would Jesus do?

Everything that is done for the Lord is blessed by him and therefore all of us are blessed because of the service of God's leaders especially the service of our true prophet of God Russell M. Nelson. God blesses his children as they obey his commandments and are faithful to him. We are all blessed because of it. Blessings will come as you remain faithful. Of that I have no doubt. @brentwooden7995- If you were called to be a full time missionary for the rest of your life and not pursue a paying career, with no option to retire until you pass away, you would most certainly be offered a stipend for your living expenses, just as the Twelve and First Presidency and the Prophet are. When they are called they give up their careers to serve full time for the rest of their lives. Some may have enough saved up from their careers and other investments that they decline the stipend. President Monson was only 36 when he was called, which seems pretty young to retire from a career paycheck. I don't know if he accepted a stipend or not, but very few people could retire at 36 and support their families for the rest of their lives for the next 60 or so years until they die. Could you? Paying for and serving your 2-year mission was a sacrifice, but it was only 2 years, not the rest of your life.

Living stipends are not compensations for service, but recognition of a practical reality that individuals who dedicate their full time to Church service are sometimes unable to simultaneously provide for their own modest living needs.

It is a Timex, similar to the one I wear as a simple farmer that isn't concerned about having expensive things. Maybe you should be more concerned about your own eternal future instead of worrying about something that most members of the church don't even care to think about. 23 Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith must stand before the throne of God, and be judged according to their works, from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.
24 Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!
25 Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well!

Do all roads lead to Christ? Clearly the thousands of denominations have very differing beliefs and very few actually get along with one another! Some baptize and some do not baptize. Some sprinkle children and babies. The Book of Mormon teaches that all young children who die in infancy are immediately saved with Christ. How about that for a loving Jesus Christ!! I have read the Book of Mormon more times than I can count on my fingers and toes. I continue to be blessed by daily study of the Gospel. Every person should read the Book, of Mormon and then pray to ask God for a witness of it's truth! We do not and will not "brainwash" anyone. Pray and ask Christ if the Book of Mormon is true. Many of these brethren that serve decline the living allowance if they do not need it. None of these brethren have sought the positions they now hold. They were called of God. Those that are asked to leave their vocation and source of income behind for full time church service should appropriately receive a living allowance.
