Yes because trying to film this drill would work so well in the dark. This was just to show people what our children are being taught in school. A peek into a classroom for parents. They should have disclaimed why the lights weren't going to be turned off, but I guess they give some people a little too much credit thinking they would understand that you can't do a news segment and interviews for TV in the dark.

at my school, the Drills that we do are lock down and fire drills. lockdowns, we just continue with our work like if nothing. fire drills, we go out side and ee stay there for 20 mins then go to 2nd period. they exagerate for a fake one.
I remember 8 or 9 years ago after the Sandy Hook incident, my school installed little holes in the ground inside the door frame where a metal rod was to be inserted so that even if the lock on the door didn’t work you couldn’t open the door because of the rod blocking it. I thought it was such a good idea but as a college student now looking back at my 6th grade self, it’s so sad and brings tears to my eyes that we actually had to do this and still do even in college. I still remember seeing the man with the drill, installing that tiny hole in each classroom and thinking “how smart to implement that” as an 11 year old. Now I see how sad it is that children are now accustomed to this kind of situation.
I graduated in 2021. We had shooter drills in my college too. And one time my school actually did have a real lockdown after it was reported that a gunman was on campus. Luckily it was a false alarm, but it was super scary. my friend was in the library and his class hid in a supply room. 😢

So when they said the fake call, he was like , ok get back to work, and then we were all like no no no

As a parent that is fighting for custody.. this made me cry.. seeing my daughter having to go through this at such a young age. This world is a lot sometimes.
This drill is putting them more at risk because the tables are making a lot of noise and giving away their location. There’s a reason you have to stay quiet
I mean it's a school. Especially in a smaller elementary school it's a given that they are inside. The shooter isn't gonna be like "Huh, it's quiet, guess no one is in there."
I think school shooter drills are highley ineffective. Nobody takes thinks about how the school shooters took these drills when they were in school. So what makes people think that they will think that there aint gonna be any kids in school on a Wednesday in september? And obviously when somebody goes to shoot a place up, they are prolly gonna plan it. So they are prolly gonna take out the office and staff so that they cant go on the intercom and then use there plan to get into the rooms. If somebody in prison can find a way to escape then im sure somebody planning to shoot up a school could get away with it just fine. Look at all these schools getting shot up now
Sophie Salazar I live in uae we don’t have school shooters it’s very safe here and we have school security outside inside and basically everywhere also nannies that help with cleaning and leading parents and students
My school never did this. We would have a "lockdown" which is just turning off the lights and sitting in a specific corner of the room where no one can easily see you. There was never anything to this extent.
I didn’t expect this to make me emotional but I started to cry watching them barricade the door and hide in the corner. Growing up a fire drill was the only thing we worried about and those we looked forward to because we got to go outside. This breaks my heart
Everest Ice Agma For us they only do because they say if it's real we are allowed the 3 basic options: run, hide, and fight. So if people thought it was real some people would dip outa school
AMIRAH TORAIN, not trying to be rude, but that’s like saying we don’t need homicide investigators, because people shouldn’t be murdering other people. The shouldn’t have to partake in those “shooting drills” but they do. Why? Because people shoot up schools. Sadly..
There was an actual shooter in the school and we ran under the table. A boy grabbed his phone to text his mother and hid in plain sight and a girl was by the door. My best friend and I were crying and telling each other goodbye. A boy was standing on the table and stepped on my head. The teacher forgot to lock the door. A lot of kids were crying also. Everyone in my classroom could have been killed because of idiots who actually want everyone to die. The boy on the table yelled “I WANT TO DIE!” When the shooter in the school. Thank you Jesus for keeping everyone safe.
As an elementary school principal I am terrified when I see the lack of correct practices being taught when it comes to the safety and security of students.
Did you feel this was incorrect? What does your school do differently? I’m just curious. In my school, we locked the door, shut off the lights and stood against the wall in complete silence. (This was college)
Including a pistol, katana, skythe, cannon, Percy Jackson, remote control to open the floor up to reveal a floor full of legos, and a real life enderman.
As a preschool teacher this makes me cry. The kids in my class should be learning numbers and colors and shapes - not how to hide for the sake of their life in a classroom bathroom.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s rude. That the teacher told the boys to do all the work. She was almost hiding before some of the kids got down. She was also being very slow with the kids. If she made that much noise in that much time. They would be in serious danger.
For the people saying, “the intruder knows these drills too” yes they do but if you were a school shooter would you waste the time you have trying your hardest to open a door? Probably not. The intruder is going to get caught faster if he/she waste time on one door. So they move along, where they see lights or an opened door.
Think like a shark not a minnow. The sharks know from this proceedure that mid period is a bad time to attack. The obivous move is to attack during a class change, and the standard proceedure will actually end up locking victims out of the safety of class rooms.
breaks glass, turns lock, door opens toward hallway, pushes table a bunch of 10 year olds just moved.. Really, yeah clearly you don't think like a 200 lb man.
Do you think the shooters didn't know how it works? I mean literally 95% are students in the school they are shooting up so I am pretty sure they know what happens in these drills.
Desire Love. Exactly. Not to mention that even if they “figure out the tactics” this is still very safe. Because many shooters if a door is locked and/or barricades they won’t waste their time because they know that they have only about 90 seconds to get in and out so they’re not going to waist time. They take advantage of open spaces and if none of the spaces are open, then they will be caught before they get te chance to do anything.
Your wrong. Schools do not have to prepare for something like that to happen. They choose to scare the logic out of the kids. Single entrance/Single exit to the property, No backpacks allowed on school grounds, No homework no need for backpacks, trustworthy armed adults at the gate & perimeter, video surveillance of the fence line. Done. Problem solved, if not severely reduced.
Instead of having them barricade a door, how about installing doors that automatically lock down when they are shut for classes. Each room should also be equipped with an escape room. A simple room they can go into behind a wall or underground. A child’s life is worth more than what it would cost to accomplish this. They have all summer to get it done starting with making it extremely difficult to get into the building period. Alarms if doors are left open or propped open, bullet resistant glass. Get rid of back packs being brought into school, backpacks should hold their books and remain in the classroom or set up lockers for all schools Elementary through High School. Homework is done on computer’s or set aside to be done the last hour of the school day.
Koralin Haig only for fire drills. But we were never allowed to cover our ears “in case we missed an important direction” so I’m fairly sure I got temporary ear damage in my left ear from the blaring sirens. But if it’s loud enough that I physically cannot stand it, I don’t think I could hear any directions over it, do you?
At my school we lock the doors put desks in front of the door turn off the lights and puts something over the window of the door and go in the corner away from the door and we always carry something to protect us if it were to happen
@@crypticgirl9427 at my school they say shooter drill over the intercom. Then a police man comes through the school as if he was a shooter. One time a class didn’t have enough time to close the door. Police officer walked in and said they would be dead and need to go quicker. They were the first classroom to the left. 30 kids. He continues to shake doors and stuff. You never know when it will happen either so if you are in the bathroom… yikes.
I love how the kids are very calm and serious just listening and doing exactly what the teacher is saying. The teacher is also very calm and I love how she is saying everything what she is doing. Good job❤️
I'm even crying...😢 This is one of the saddest things I've seen...kids having a drill on an active shooter. When did it come to this? Kids should never have to worry about being shot at a school. Glad to hear some teachers an staff are being armed. Glad the schools are training these children.
I'd done these drills back before Columbine. They've been a part of the drill set for years and years. They're certainly not new. So don't feel too bad. And it's good that kids know what to do! I'm glad they do these drills
Truther333 these drills are inducing trauma based mind control on your children so that in a few years not only will they not want to own a firearm...but they will see those of us who do own guns as the new enemy of freedom. This plan has been in the making for 50 + years.
Ever since the Florida shooting my school has sent alarms, cameras ect. They even let *SOME* teachers be armed. They tell us to turn computers off, mute volume on the computer (Music, Games ect.) We spread out in the room lying down with pencils and earbuds in our hands. Once we had a lockdown and recess, at the time a Church let us go to. The teachers told us to go in a straight line, when it happened the faster kids ran to the church, others did what the teacher said. The assistant principal pretended to be the “shooter” and started to chase us. Me and a couple other people were hiding in the stage behind the curtains. When we heard that it was over all of us started to laugh and head back to the school. -- Practice No matter any setting! Stay Safe! -Mackenzie Rose 🌹 - 17/12/18
We had been in a level 5 lock down we had to go to class there were helicopters over are school turns out a man had a gun in the neighborhood next to us we have 2 police cars now and a office to go hide in
This made me cry because of how young they are and that they have to know these people like this exist in the world. The schools should all install a sort of secret room hidden with metal doors so that they are safer than they are currently. It’s awful how kids have to worry about this everyday. They have to think the unthinkable, and it’s awful how kids go to school normally and have to consider this happening.
*Gasp* So true !! I just noticed that the door is like that !! 😲 OMG , People common sense the door is like that !! Oh they are getting theirselfs in danger !! 😟😞
my mom’s friend, we will call him jeff, he has a kid in 4th grade same as these kids. his son THREATENED the school with GUNS. crazy how people do that. his kid needs some serious help.😢
Some kid from another school not far away came in at lunch and brought a knife and started beating up some kids and waving it around. Scary af someone's finger got cut and one person got stabbed.
I remember there was a bomb threat at the elementary school, so a bomb squad, fire department and the police came and we got dismissed at 12, though it was scary, it was nice we left early
Things like the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Workers in the factory were trapped inside. Their doors opened inward and locked from the outside, which made it impossible to escape among the commotion. Workers trampled each other to get out of the building. This is why our doors open outwards most of the time.
We actually had a code red today (it was a glitch in the alarms so all of our county schools got the code red) we sat there in the dark for 45 minutes. Our teacher was really scared because one of the doors wasn’t locking, we pushed a few desks infront of the door. Just know that your teacher knows what to do and will probably be willing to attack the shooter/dangerous person and to try to stay calm.
John Doe you’re 8th in the world lmao People immigrate because you’re in a accesible location and quite honestly since corporations benefit from cheap labor they’re willing to look the other way for a lot of people
When we had a lockdown drill, in 2nd grade my teacher got her scissors and said, ” if they come in, ill stab them or even lose my life to protect my children” when she said that, the whole class grabbed their scissors from their pencil boxes😂
In the 5th grade we had a intruder drill, and he knew that a lot of the kids had knifes in their bag, and he said “if this were real I would go and grab all your knifes,” he was the best teacher ever
Honestly it’s better than nothing, they could stab the shooter if they were close enough and there’s not many weapons kids could hold in a classroom lol
In my elementary school, the principal would announce on the intercom that there is a lockdown. Sometimes the teacher would let us know if it was a drill but most of the time they didnt tell us. We would immediately run to the cubby wall that was right next to the door. But it was safe cause it wasn't in the veiw of the door. The teacher would lock the door and pull down the shades and then come and hide with us. A lot of the time people would walk down the halls and pretend to try and break into the classroom(it was traumatizing). Then when it was over, the principal would go back over the intercom and say a code sentence like "can janitor Jose come to the office". It was pretty smart. We never barricaded the door or left the lights on or the windows unblinded
Nevaeh Lopez apparently my school used to use codes like that but they decided it was too complicated and preferred clarity over keeping it concealed. At one pint someone asked something like “why do you say their exact location? Then they can just move” but the administrators would rather just say every new location and have it be clear, than have a student that didn’t remember the code be put in danger.
Gianna Nav same because at our school we have had many threats that were pranks (the guy went to the high school right next to us) then one day the guy brought a gun to school and someone posted a picture on Snapchat so the police came and he got arrested
My kids school has automatic locks and undergo these drills sometimes twice a month they also send out alerts to parents phones during the drills to let the parents know the best thing we can do is not go to the school until we get a notification telling us too.. I pray it never actually happens and also the staff are armed
My school district has the notifications too, and on the district website it will have a special bar for special emergencies, like weather stuff, lockdowns/lockouts, drills, etc. the other day I got on and it said a high school nearby was in a lockout.
Bruh in our school we turn the lights off and sit at the walls( and lock the doors obvi). They finna be putting their desks by the door and things in their hand to protect themselves. 😭
How about a solid classroom door and lock instead of furniture barricades? Poor kids who have to go through this. Seems people make much more effort to protect their money than to protect their children.
One of the first things the teacher did was lock the classroom door. The gunman can destroy the locks, hence the additional measure of a makeshift barricade. Short of turning schools into high security facilities, there's only so much that can be done to keep dangerous people out. If bad folks really want to get in, they certainly can with the right weapons. But, slowing them down and the damage that can be done is still valuable before law enforcement is able to arrive on the scene.
Johannes Busch how about we add some common sense gun laws for purchasing guns as well as ban military style weapons which don’t belong in civilian hands like AR-15’s and AK-47’s
Dude Life well, it’s a trade off. Homogeneity would solve this. You know, all students of one race. Or you can have diversity and vilify white people for things Muslims do. The choice is yours.
Problems 1: They are bunched up. A powerful gun can shoot one bullet and it’ll go through half of them 2:Door opens outwards 3:Loud 4:Slow 5:Didn’t lock the door 6:Barricade poorly put together 7:If the shooter is smart(which they normally are) putting a black drape over the window will just tell them which classrooms have kids. If some classrooms don’t have lights on, and you can see through the window, and there’s no barricades, they won’t bother with that one. But if a classroom has black cloth blocking the window and when they open the door there’s a mess of tables and the lights on, they know that kids are in there. 8:People seem to forget that school shooters 99% of the time come from that school, so your basically just telling the school shooter what their defenses are. There should be drills just to throw them off, and then the real protection is only known by the teachers and used during a school shooting
These 4th graders: *hear the announcement* still sitting in their seats My class in 7th grade: *hears announcement* OMG OMG OMG AHHDHSVDUAEHRHEUSVRHE “so you know that one time?”
Yo I underwent these drills before Columbine. It's good they online this stuff happens. But they did it wrong. They were loud, slow, and they didn't turn off the lights. Also I don't believe that many kids were scared. They know these drills so well at this point.
They won’t turn off the lights because the parents and news are there. This is JUST a drill or showing people around the world on how they do it. But they can’t turn off lights because the camera is there and it’s going to be hard to see the kids. And just to say it is just THEM SHOWING HOW THEY DO IT it’s not a real one so they can be slow cause they are demestrating how they do it. But I definitely think they will do it way faster. Don’t say your opinion to soon cause they are just showing how they are doing it
Every school does it differently. I’m currently majoring in education and have been to various schools to complete my internships. Some schools have to turn off the lights as a procedure and others don’t because “it will be too obvious for the shooter.”
I'm a mama of 4 and this breaks my heart! I decided to home school my kiddos. Tho school shootings wasn't the deciding factor, seeing this video made me grateful. My kids deserve the chance to have a safe childhood away from constant reminders or threats of violence.
@@whoareyou8944 I use a mix of Workbooks and online curriculums plus I sign them up for community ed classes (art, dance etc) I'm currently using "The good and the beautiful" for writing and language Arts and Reading eggs/Math seeds for reading and math. Still makes it a hassle to try to get through. That might give time for other people to rescue while the shooter is dropping desks and tripping over the chairs and desks.
I guess nobody remembers or knows about having drills in preparation for atomic bombs, all the while knowing it was futile. Nobody considered our ‘feelings’.
I was born Nov 1947 and I remember those drills all too well. We did it, we accepted it. Nothing ever happened so it wasn't over stressful. What is happening now for these children is very real, it happens. Their stress levels are different in today's world with all the violence they are aware off. Being able to go to school without fear is a past era now in America. Globally attacks on schools have occurred often throughout recent history. Sadly it's our own people committing these horrific crimes on our children.
I think it's just because the camera crew needs lighting. Any other time they probably do turn off the lights. At least at my school, that's what they do.
Many problems in this video:
•Too Loud
•Too Slow
•Didn’t turn the lights off
•door opens outwards
the KIDS in my school have actually addressed the fact they the doors open outwards but nobody has done anything
Zayuh Its only a drill, while they couldve gone faster, the lights probably werent turned off to show the parents and audience alittle more clearly
Oh that’s barely anything at my school. My teacher forgot to lock the door during our drill, and the principal walked right in.
Yea now if it was really they will all be dead if they moved that slow
Problem
1. Lights are not off
2. No locks
3. Slow
4. Loud
Leah Cotten and the door is opened the wrong way

they did that for television
Way diffrent then my school
The school shooter will already know so that is dumb
Haven't they ever thought that a shooter watches this and knows what they do to get inside the classroom
that is true
Most school shootings are done by a student who attended the school, so they most likely ALREADY know.
Exactly
Fr one of the reasons I hate media
I was just thinking that
The fact that she is telling them to make sure they have something in their hands to protect themselves is heartbreaking.

Quiet
When NOT on Live:
Loud
Actually irl it’s the other way around
Reasons-
1: they can’t film with lights off
2: they need to show every move clearly
3: the classroom is large and half empty
Facts 👌
4: The doors automatically lock
Some people have never been to school apparently and had someone locked out because the shut the door
Well those reason can be replaced by the fact that they put a curtain over the door

Look at all these schools getting shot up now
Half Of A Whole
The shooter will check because there is a clear door indicating a room.
The shooter wouldn’t be able to hear because of the shots
"Alert alert"
kids with the teacher: makes as much noise as they can....and didnt even put the lights off...whats the use
karam faiz they needed to film they probably do turn he lights off just they needed to film
Alert! The control point has been captured!
They should turn the lights off. Just closing the window on the door won’t help.
They probably do, they just kept them on for filming purposes.

And those are blackout curtains at my old school we had them they block all light

@@sparklestarplanet it should be locked
There was an actual shooter in the school and we ran under the table. A boy grabbed his phone to text his mother and hid in plain sight and a girl was by the door. My best friend and I were crying and telling each other goodbye. A boy was standing on the table and stepped on my head. The teacher forgot to lock the door. A lot of kids were crying also. Everyone in my classroom could have been killed because of idiots who actually want everyone to die. The boy on the table yelled “I WANT TO DIE!” When the shooter in the school. Thank you Jesus for keeping everyone safe.

As a preschool teacher this makes me cry. The kids in my class should be learning numbers and colors and shapes - not how to hide for the sake of their life in a classroom bathroom.

tea it’s during school of course the shooter gonna know there’s kids in the class

*yes share this so the shooters know how it works*
I know right!!
Do you think the shooters didn't know how it works? I mean literally 95% are students in the school they are shooting up so I am pretty sure they know what happens in these drills.
Oh Wow
So dumb ....!! 😒🤦🏽♀️
This isn't how it works. This is a pathetic version of it.
Desire Love. Exactly. Not to mention that even if they “figure out the tactics” this is still very safe. Because many shooters if a door is locked and/or barricades they won’t waste their time because they know that they have only about 90 seconds to get in and out so they’re not going to waist time. They take advantage of open spaces and if none of the spaces are open, then they will be caught before they get te chance to do anything.
it’s so sad that schools have to prepare for something like this to happen. especially for younger children who might have to go through that

Why not reform gun laws instead?
Who else has these LOUD sirens go off instead of a nice little conversation
Koralin Haig only for fire drills. My daughter does it at her school and she says it scares her each time 😭 I never had to do this
I'd done these drills back before Columbine.

They tell us to turn computers off, mute volume on the computer (Music, Games ect.)
We spread out in the room lying down with pencils and earbuds in our hands.

This made me cry because of how young they are and that they have to know these people like this exist in the world. Why did school make it so the doors go outward -_-
noob noob it defeats the purpose of the intruder drill
Things like the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Workers in the factory were trapped inside. Their doors opened inward and locked from the outside, which made it impossible to escape among the commotion. Workers trampled each other to get out of the building. This is why our doors open outwards most of the time.
Mine go in at my school
We actually had a code red today (it was a glitch in the alarms so all of our county schools got the code red) we sat there in the dark for 45 minutes.
Then they can just move” but the administrators would rather just say every new location and have it be clear, than have a student that didn’t remember the code be put in danger.
this is the same thing i do and we never know it’s a drill so we always think it could be real

How about a solid classroom door and lock instead of furniture barricades? Poor kids who have to go through this. Seems people make much more effort to protect their money than to protect their children.
Johannes Busch It seems it would be more effective if they just pulled their desks over and ducked down behind
+ How bout a cruise missile strike on N.R.A. Headquarters! Destroy them.
Secure doors keep ppl out but also can lock ppl in
Johannes Busch how about we add some common sense gun laws for purchasing guns as well as ban military style weapons which don’t belong in civilian hands like AR-15’s and AK-47’s
It's so sad it has to come to this for schools in our nation it breaks my heart 💔😥.
Dude Life well, it’s a trade off. Homogeneity would solve this. You know, all students of one race. Or you can have diversity and vilify white people for things Muslims do. The choice is yours.
Problems
1: They are bunched up. A powerful gun can shoot one bullet and it’ll go through half of them
2:Door opens outwards
3:Loud
4:Slow
5:Didn’t lock the door
6:Barricade poorly put together
7:If the shooter is smart(which they normally are) putting a black drape over the window will just tell them which classrooms have kids.

Yo I underwent these drills before Columbine. It's good they online this stuff happens. But they did it wrong. They were loud, slow, and they didn't turn off the lights. Also I don't believe that many kids were scared. They know these drills so well at this point.
Well turning off the lights would make filming this drill kinda hard to do, don't you think?
Well dont you think that those cameras have lights?

1catmac that was 100yes ago times change
I was born Nov 1947 and I remember those drills all too well. We did it, we accepted it. Nothing ever happened so it wasn't over stressful. What is happening now for these children is very real, it happens. Their stress levels are different in today's world with all the violence they are aware off. Being able to go to school without fear is a past era now in America. Globally attacks on schools have occurred often throughout recent history. Sadly it's our own people committing these horrific crimes on our children.
Ikr. I wish they would. You never know if someone broke in over the weekend and placed a bomb..
@@girlygamerrobloxgreat1169 Not like that. They're talking about atomic bombs from other countries.
we had drills for tornados for shooters every year in the 90s.
It’s so sad kids actually have to do this. I live in the Uk so I don’t get it, but kids shouldn’t have to do this
Ye the USA has some big problems rn...
they should do this anywhere. in any country
donutz the Philippines can't relate
I do it in the uk
@@divorced_dog no because in my country something like that has never happened, wtf happens with america, it is like a third world country.
Teacher: ok hold something to protect yourself
Other kids:ok
One kid: *holds knife*
Expectation: *them quietly walking to the corner and blocking the door*
Reality: *running to the corner and making a human hill*
Why dont they turn off the lights
I think it's just because the camera crew needs lighting. Any other time they probably do turn off the lights. At least at my school, that's what they do.
I loved how some of the girls grabbed folders and notebooks while the boys grabbed safety scissors and pencils
?!?
The pencils and scissors are better so then they can cut the intruder up..😂
i’d grab a stapeler for dear life-
It’d grab an encyclopedia and hit the shooter
“Why are you scared?”
God what a bright guy🙄
