+Colin G Well... despite there being 160 shooters all over the US, the odds are still much greater of your kid being raped, getting struck by an epidemic or hit by a car than it getting in an active shooting incident. Should we train them against rape, give them mouth masks all day long and forbid all traffic around schools for this reason? This training prepares for something that might happen (and then possibly saves dozens of lives), but while doing so, causes post-traumatic stress with a few hundred pupils (and now I'm pulling it to a stretch... possibly this might be the root trauma for our next generation shooter)

When I was in middle school, we had an unannounced ‘intruder drill’ too- our principal went on the intercom and gave a distinct location of where the ‘shooter’, what gun they said and what they were wearing. The police would bang stuff against the walls to sound like bullets and it was the worst feeling hearing them slowly march on down the corridor. The classroom I was in was relatively close to the said location and we had to run. I remember everything I felt, I was so so nervous and people were having panic attacks, tripping and shoving each other trying to make it down the hallway, and I remember my friend who was in crunches at the time falling mid hallway in the sudden rush hour and I cried so hard once we were all outside. We ran so far, about a block and a half down. Everyone was uncontrollably sobbing. I mean, we were just 11 - 13 year olds. It lasted 30 minutes before we were all sent back to our classrooms and the day just went by as normal, but god, I will never forget the rawness I felt and the adrenaline I shouldn’t have had to survive. I can’t believe how terrifying this must be for actual victims, and my heart goes out to the recent Uvalde shooter victims and families.

I’m a school teacher and last month they did an unannounced lockdown and my heart sank and I shook as I was hiding the kids under the tables and telling them to be quiet. Someone came to shake the door and I signaled them to be quiet. When the principal said it was just a drill I went into the closet and bursted our crying without the kids seeing me. This is not why I went into teaching, the government need to change their laws instead of training us how not to die.

    • @Kmsnna1012
      @Kmsnna1012 5 років тому +27

the hiding behind the desk thing isnt really to try to have the shooter not see you, it is supposed to keep the shooter away because the shooter would want to move fast to not get caught so if students were behind a desk then it would take longer for the shooter to get to them which might make the shooter just leave that classroom if that makes sense.

My homeroom teacher in High School for 11th and 12th grade (she's also the history teacher), was once in the army, and, in case of a real intruder, if anyone starts audibly crying, laughing, or otherwise making noises that could alert our location, to knock out or shut up any students making noise because the last thing you want is someone crying and the intruder finding you because of it. We were told to always keep our composure, create a desk barricade, and grab something to use as a weapon, like scissors, text books, even pens and pencils. If it could be thrown, that was better, but anything was better than nothing. In her class, we took it seriously.

Most schools make the kids huddle in one area thinking that you are hidden and safe. In reality it would give the shooter a bigger crowd together, making it easy to just keep shooting until no one else is left.

So how are illegal guns sold? Where do they come from? Oh yeah, people who illegally sell guns just get them from no where.
They're made in a factory too, like legal guns. Stop all gun manufacturing period.

I think we should go even harsher, but make sure the kid and the parents know what’s going on and what to expect. If a kid or parent doesn’t want to go through with it don’t make them.

a very vast majority of our terrorism comes from other country so yes. it is sad. sad that we have to suffer either because of some nonborn American or some piece of shit bully. although in most schools it's either a bully shooting...a depressed child or some druggy

I was in a school shooting once and we all thought it was a drill until after it happened and the teachers told us it was actually real. We were on the top floor and idk what happened but I think the shooter only went on the first floor. And didn’t shoot anyone. It was super weird

There are records of active shooter cases where it’s either a negligent discharge (seriously the case read negligent discharge round went into the floor no one injured). There are also cases of someone that isn’t even a part of the school and went onto the parking lot to commit suicide. They technically are active shooter situations but no one was actually in any danger.

There was a threat to my school once. It was an online non specific threat so we weren’t in any danger but we all thought it was really happening.
My and my sisters ran into a classroom during lunch time. We went into the corner of the room on the floor. We had our backpacks in front of us and were freaking out.
The teacher and students were complete idiots. She said “Ok we don’t know what’s going on but you can keep talking and eating lunch. Everyone was moving and making noise. Me and my sisters didn’t stop hiding until near the end when 1) we finally got information and 2) we heard no gunshots.
During the whole thing I was texting my mom and I freaked out my dad. I was holding a chair to throw. (In hindsight I would have been too scared to).
Basically if a shooter was actually in my school, I most likely would have been dead.

Wanna hear a funny story ?
(Well not that funny, even not funny at all.)
My friend, last year, was in class. Everyone knew there would be a shooting drill, so when the alarm was ringing we just do what we do as usual. But them ?
They didn't know. Even the teacher.
They were screaming, we heard through all the building. The teacher freaked out and hidden herself under her desk. My friend sent messages to her mother, because she tough she were going to die.
Cool, uh ? We don't even know to stay calm in France. Hopefully I grade-skipped and I'm not in this school anymore... I feel bad for my friends.

One of my old teachers had wasp spray and one time they said it was a high level lockdown and that it wasn’t a drill. She grabbed the wasp spray and we all got in the corner and then over the intercom they said it was a misunderstanding and it was a low level. Scared the crap out of anyone. I think all teachers should carry wasp spray or pepper spray.
