Here’s the thing. The school flags the wrong things as “suspicious.” I remember police showing up at my school and interrogating me for hours and hours on end over a simple misunderstanding, yet people somehow slip through the cracks and commit actual violence.
What was the misunderstanding?

It's obvious that you weren't gonna cause harm. I'll throw this away for now, but here's a card with the file number, you can pick it up from the station within a month."

When i was a kid my parents taught me to try to make friends with everyone in school no matter how odd or weird they were because you never know how someone is until you get to know them. It lead me to make friends with all sorts of kids. One i particularly came to know was a chap a lot like evan. Cheery, outspoken. A real clean cut kid. But as i got to know him i started to notice why always wore long sleeves. The self harm scars, the dried blood in his nose. The puffy eyes early in the morning. It came as a surprise to all of us that he was the one that got stopped by school security near graduation with a bag full of knives a gun and a homemade pipe bomb. I guess even a nice guy like him had his demons. Im grateful then that my school didnt discriminate back then and was observant of every student. Its not always gonna be the gloomy quiet kid being picked on in plain sight.

We don't sell, allow, or make guns reachable for kids to use by law. You need to be 18 to buy one, and there's an extra waiting period for people between 18-20.

This might make adults more aware, but also makes kids terrified of school and might serve as inspiration to psychos.
It's like telling kids you're sending them off to war. There has to be more tact with how these things are delivered rather than just be about shock value

This is easily the most memorable PSA I've seen on gun violence. I first saw it several years ago and every so often I find myself coming back to this one. Great work, whoever put this together.

Absolutely chilling. Even on subsequent viewings, every time the "while you were watching Evan" message comes on screen, it sends shivers down my spine.
I completely agree. I was fine the whole video until that message popped up on the screen. Sent chills down my spine.
I'm SO glad I wasn't the only one! I was totally focused on Evan and his story and never paid any attention to the other students in the background.
This helps me stay more alert, and be aware that these events can happen by and to anyone, anytime, anywhere...and ofc, to try to notice all students because you never know.

sadly it’s not as “preventable” as we hope. there are far too many stories of kids being reported by friends, siblings, parents, teachers, counselors, and so on. nothing happens until casualties occur.

We can’t stop what happened, only what will happen if nothing’s done. Everyone needs to be there for each other. School faculty need to step in and stand up for others. Parents need to be more compassionate and understanding. There needs to be more support groups for both the bullies and the bullied. In no way is it Evan’s fault for what happened to him. He’s just a student.
Also, he could just be a boy that likes guns who is also bullied. That’s normal for a lot of people. Unfortunately, what is also normal is adults who dismiss children and that’s why this unforgivable crime happens.

IkusaTakuma when I was in school I used to hear people joke about someone saying they'd shoot up the school or They themselves joked about shooting up the school and everyone always took it as a joke. Luckily nothing ever happened but stuff like that shouldn't be joked about anymore. And should always be reported no matter what.
IkusaTakuma I remember there was this kid Jacob, people used to bother him and he would say things like he was gonna kill someone or that he was gonna shoot up the school but people would just joke about it. And this isn't something to joke about.. least not in today's world

It's rare that someone will post something that obvious on social media and with any of the other signs, I feel like the school would just brush off. Is this video meant for administrators rather than students? I would love to prevent something like this but I don't have the authority to stop them unless there is clear evidence.
@Akire Mep I don't think, nobody goes to the supposed quiet kid that looks like he's going into something to make a relationship, even if they knew it was very possible. People just ignore that, they want to keep going with they're lives. Let's do an example, you're a turtle and there's a small but lethal cocodrile, would you go to try and make a relationship? It just doesn't work that way. They're with you 'cause they're ur friends.

I like ads that have subtle flashes of brilliance like that. All the more effective because, seeing it for the first time on TV, you probably don't necessarily know what to look for, so, this could be an ad for anything, for it to then hit you with that shock at the end. Whereas looking at it first on UA-cam, even knowing what to expect it can catch you off guard.

People are only consumed with themselves a lot of the time. Most aren’t aware of their surroundings. Especially when he was quickly scrolling through and that kid with the gun seemed like a loner who would of gone unnoticed.
Happened in my school. Only not a gun, but a knife. She was looking for a certain kid, but he was the only one who got genuinely scared (because he knew her and knew she hated him) and skipped school that day. Still, a teacher got stabbed in his back.

There should be consequences for bullies. Don’t be manipulated by them, sometimes you just have to remove them from the school. Metal detectors, wearing of school IDs and other ways to identify students and secure the students.

They did report him. Multiple times. Just nobody took their reports serious. Kids aren't fucking stupid. Plus the last school shooter Cruz hadn't been to school for a year and a fucking half. He was an adult.

I don't like these because they are honestly making it seem like the students are 100% responsible for preventing gun violence.
When the adults can't fix the economy or mental health, who is left to pass the buck to except the same students who'll be killed if they fail? Plus, if they blame the students, they can safely rationalize their own guilt away and continue ruining the economy and doing nothing about the state of mental health! It's a Win-Win for them.
