Since 1983 or so I have kept a journal, it has been quiet helpful.

Your eminence. You are truly an extraordinary gentleman. Even Jiddu Krishnamurthy will be proud of your mesmerizing series, had he gotten a chance to witness it. Bollywood and cricket are sublime here in India but i reckon i would not pay to watch any of that stuff. Your series is something i can even pay to watch so you are my superstar...Amitabh bachchan. Fan bloody tastic 😊

Every year I rewrite my simplified diary transferring all information to every new calendar that I buy for every new year. It takes about a whole month every single year for me to finish the updated diary.

Hey Ash, I thought that your phone screen was cracked until I realized that it was the reflection of the branches above you 😄

It is Quantum Physics. The screen is cracked and it is the reflection of the branches. Both exist at the same time. I am convinced that this is what Ash is secretly trying to teach us here, as his pocket squares already indicated that the Multiverse is real!

Nothing wrong with keeping a journal. I have kept a food journal for the past three years, after my cancer operations. Keeping a journal can be a cathartic experience where you can keep your thoughts together to include experiences received. I found a lot of guidance in looking into the philosophy of Taoism for life guidance. The operative word being guidance.

Sound advice, Ash. May I make a suggestion about a future topic? I live in the UK and warmer weather is hopefully approaching. What is your take on wearing shorts? Style, colours, what to wear with them (short socks?) and appropriate footwear. I think shorts can be very tricky as one gets older - probably harder than wearing jeans. I would be grateful for your views and sartorial advice. David.

Good one. I love your opening. Indeed, self development of any sort requires. We could only wish it would drop into our laps! I would suggest that if you are looking at some aspect of yourself and you are running into a wall - not getting ahead with it - that you get some help. You also do not need to do it alone.
And indeed scheduling the good stuff into your calendar well ahead is wonderful. I book airline tickets well ahead and the get to pick any seat in the airplane since I am usually the first to book.
I am going on a five day meditation retreat in May. I wanted a place with accommodations and meals. I did not want yoga or yoga lessons. I did not want someone trying to teach me how to meditation (I've been meditating for over 40 (forty) years. Nor do I want anything mandatory: worship, talks, gatherings. Looking forward to it.

Ash, I have to quote George Carlin here: “If you're looking for self-help, why would you read a book written by somebody else? That's not self-help: That's help! There's no such thing as self-help. If you did it yourself you didn't need help. Try to pay attention to the language we've all agreed on.” [Non-sequiturial side note: I think I’m on my twentieth pocket square crafted with pinking shears thanks to your pocket square video!]

By not seeking helpful advice from books or professionals could be the road to a life ruined. People with experiences, good and bad, can be the signpost needed to induce self help within, than just thinking it out yourself and you can take or leave the advice given. That is true self help!

I've been journaling for many years now. And find it's a very effective way of channeling and organising the tsunami of thoughts and experiences that wash over our daily lives. As a side note, its often interesting - and instructive - to go back a couple of years and see what was on my mind back then. Sometimes I'm mildly surprised at how intuitive I was. Other times I have to chuckle at why I was wasting time on trivialities.
The thing about journaling, and especially writing in long-hand with a fountain pen on paper is this: You have to form complete sentences in your mind before the nib starts writing them. And this is a good habit and skill to carry into your everyday life and conversation. If you write in complete, logical, and grammatical sentences, then you are more likely to carry those traits into your conversation.

I agree, I love delving back in my old journals to see what was going on in my younger years, although I often end up shouting at myself in retrospect!

You are absolutely correct, Ash, when you talk about human cognition and the processing of information that occurs when we engage in cursive writing.
In an age of laptop keyboards and smart phones, I always encouraged the students in my English and History classes to put pen or pencil to paper, as studies have shown that comprehension and retention of information via electronic devices is inferior to the old fashion method of quill, ink, and parchment.
To this day, if I want to commit a new poem to memory, I will write it out on 3 x 5 cards, and read the verse in my own handwriting over and over, until I've learned the new poem. -For me, this is the most efficient and effective method.

I have a question Chap, I am extremely mature and accomplished in life, I’m very disciplined and moving up in my profession and responsibilities. I find myself at the stage of finding a future wife, but seeing what’s on the market most women I meet are damaged, immature, rebellious and do not let me guide them. In contrast, they always seem to end up influencing me back to caos, knocking me out of my routine and discipline, like my younger days. Question is, how do you maintain, keep and hold your character, discipline and standards and not let women throw you off!?

    • @frankv7068
      @frankv7068 2 місяці тому

@@IDKline It’s the nature and result of hypergamy, we tend to date younger women by looks and personality rather than income, and women tend to pick dating older, smarter and more successful men with confidence over looks. unfortunately even in modern times I will always make more than the average woman. society or laws can not change certain traits that make men in nature more productive and women more vulnerable. And I’ve dated women exactly my age and income and it creates a power struggle, if you think about it’s not fair to the women to attend the house be a mother and work full hours while I only work, it tips the balance of work output imo. I like the traditional I provide 100% and stay at home wife kind of thing.

@@jonstern7511 I like your opinion, but in every team and group including relationships there needs to be a leader and a team to support the cause. Maybe that’s the reason why I’m having problems with modern women, I feel the need to take over and handle things and they feel offended.
