Yes, I completely agree. I shaved my head back when I was 44, I'm 57 now. When I finally lost my hair, I accepted it, and that was it. After I first shaved it all off, I got used to it. It's all 👍
I started losing my hair at about 20. I just shaved it all off one day and got on with my life. It didn't hurt....better gone than a comb-over 😬
For younger chaps concerned about what the ladies think of balding dont worry about it. Firstly, don’t worry about what any woman thinks. Secondly, work on yourself for yourself. Confidence follows. And with that so do the ladies but don’t let that distract you from your mission of constant improvement.

It depends a bit on the head shape as well. But of course, any “faking it” approaches like combovers are not a solution.

Good morning Ash, I'd have loved this advice when I started to lose mine, it started to go quickly when I was 26. The first clue was getting sunburned on the top of my head. I went through about a year of going to more and more expensive hairdressers to disguise it but ended up buying some clippers and since then I shave it down to a stubble twice a week.
I was mortified when this happened, I thought I was destined to a single life and my best days were behind me.
In fact I was told by partners later on they'd much rather have a guy with a shaved head than someone with more expensive hairstyles than them!
As diplomatic as I can be to make this observation - the type of women I've attracted since having a shaved head (and the one I married) have certainly had personalities that were more tutti frutti than vanilla, I really didn't expect that.
One thing I'd advise is when the time comes, cut it off as the weather is sunny then use some suncream. Your head will get an even tan instead of looking pale in patches where it's never seen the sun. Do other things at the same time, buy some new clothes, maybe try facial hair, get bold new glasses if you need them. A brand new you, ready for tomorrow.

Excellent advice Ash, as per usual. I started shaving my head to the skin 47 yrs. ago. I'm 75 yrs. old my 'Bald Guy' icons were Yul Brynner and Telly Savals. Embrace the look and be prepared for the Ladies wanting to rub your head...you will never get tired of that, I guarantee. Thanks for what you do and how you do it.

I didn’t wait for me to turn 40 and start thinning. I started shaving my hair before that. I knew I didn’t have the cards for a long life of thick luscious hair as baldness ran on both sides of my family. So, even before started thinking I was balding, I jumped into the lake of baldness and started shaving my head. I didn’t want to cling to scraps of my former long-haired glory. I went ahead and embraced before it was at the door. To use Larry David’s words, I hide my baldness by shaving it.
I'm in my early 60s, and sarcopenia (loss of muscle) concerns me more than loss of hair.
Everybody over 40, both men and women should do some form of strength training. Whether it's lifting weights, crossfit, yoga, pilates, etc.
Starting to thin, mix castor oil and rosemary oil, massage on your scalp, take biotin and eat two Brazil nuts per day, i lost most of my hair after chemotherapy treatment, didn't grow back, until my hairdresser recommended the above. My hair is now thicker than ever and I've always had a mop of thick blonde hair.
As a 50 year old man, I can tell you going grey is just as frustrating as going bald. Grey hair at least in my case is unmanageable, wiry and still requires cutting. Bald suits the larger gent too in my view. I've never had to deal with losing hair but I like to think it would have been something I would manage without losing confidence. Great video Ash. Cheers.
I began shaving my head in my mid twenties, even before i started going bald. I attempted to grow it longer for my wedding 25 years ago, and that's when i noticed it was significantly receeding. So since then I've had it completely shaved off. Interestingly i've been able to grow a thicker beard, the more I've lost my hair on top! P.S. , Wilkos was a great shop!
at 47 still got my hair , but have turn gray , for most my adult life i had them long and few time i skinhead them :) and i like wearing hats ,

It is the only thing, which really helps, it is nearly riskless, only uncomfortable for some time and not cheap.
I am very lucky now after the procedure, which I had 2 years ago. If someone wants to ask me something about the matter, please ask.
My dad was bald my grandfather was bald and I went bald around 32 or 34. My son went bald at 26. All of us were and are comfortable with it. If it was good enough for Sean Connery it's good enough for me. Funny note I named my son Sean. 😎. Best regards Ron
My hair loss started in the early twenties so I decided to shave my head. Suddenly a lot of women wanted to date me.. a well dressed bold man is / looks confident and very manly ( a good physical shape helps as well )

I often get questions about how I feel about my widows peak and crown. I just say that we are lucky that a bald head looks great if you just own it.
I started losing my hair in early twenties and by my late twenties I was really distraught as it was very noticeable. None of my friends were losing their hair. When I was about 28 I just shaved it off and have never really worried about it since. The process of going bald is horrible, once you come to terms with it then all is ok.

I have been shaving my head for at least twenty years I am currently sixty three, the most important thing is that apart from a few aches and pains I am in good health anything else is a minor detail.

An interesting listen and great for anyone going through a stressful time due to baldness. However I couldn't stop myself pulling you up on one point you made. You mentioned in a rather disparaging way that "society seems to judge us on how we look" but that "you personally were not concerned about your physical appearance." LOL - the channel is > 80% about improving your appearance 😂. But still love your channel and look forward to the next one.

Or other examples of bald men such as Telly Savalas and Marvin Hagler. But Michael Jordan really made bald popular. I remember men with full heads of hair would shave it all off to get that Michael Jordan look.

For what it's worth, Ash, the look suits you well and bears witness to your experience. As an upside, you now have a reason to wear a panama in the summer, or felt hats in cooler months. Experiment and indulge: you need the protection now, anyway!
As for Jason Statham, you will notice the man is also in an incredible shape. That most likely doesn't hurt. 😂

This was the sort of advice which me in my teenage years would have benefitted .... I was bullied at school and college because I had a receding hair line...it affected my confidence...I was very shy to meet girls because I always thought that I am not good enough to impress them...I used to spend a lot of time working on my hair style to conceal my baldness and it only made my looks worse.... It took a lot of time to realise that hair loss has nothing to do with personality and confidence.... Thank you Ash !
I lost most of my hair in my mid 20s, and began blade shaving my head/face almost every day It honestly never bothered me in the lightest, but for some gents it’s a devastating thing. The smooth look isn’t for everyone, but if you do try it mind the sun. Wear a hat and apply some sunscreen. A sunburn on the dome is no fun.
I find much easier to shave all my hair off, after working out at the gym.
It becomes part the days routine, and if done daily your regular electric shaver, does the job well.
I started losing my hair in my 30s and it became very obvious by the time I hit 50. It’s now quite thin on top - you can clearly see my scalp from the top (I’m also shorter than average so it’s more apparent to others than it is to me looking in the mirror). It doesn’t bother me. I already wear my hair quite short and have seriously considered shaving it as you do, but my wife is not on board with that idea… yet.
Look into minoxidil and finasteride
I feel compelled to take a contrary position. My hair fell out when I was ill with Covid. It literally fell out in clumps. I shaved it off and had a hairpiece fitted. Absolutely fantastic. Not only that, I have made a lot of friends as there is a whole community around mens hair systems. I now have the hair I want - I've even had it permed! Lots and lots of compliments! I would say it looks better now at 46 than it did at 36. There's a certain amount of maintenance involved, but nothing too onerous. I find I can tolerate it for 3 or 4 weeks at a time before I have to remove the system. A very quick wash of the system and shave of the head and back on it goes. I have become adept at getting the positioning exactly right. Eventually, the system will start to shed, and I go back to the salon (Mens Hair to Go in Whitechapel - plug) for a new fitting. It costs about £1000 a year, but for that you get a professional job and styled to taste. It has really saved the day. It takes 10 years off.

That's awesome - I'm always envious of my boss since he has a stunningly white silvery platinum type of hair and it looks *awesome* ... My hair's at best going to be a steely intermitted grey😆.

When I was a kid mid 70’s I got hell at school ( ginger nut / oi Ging / ginger minge / ginger biscuit ) as most natural red haired boys did ..
years up the road nature played it’s card and all the chicks call me « the blond guy « so not so bad .
But balding didn’t touch me although I never knew my grandfather with hair ( post WW2 ) and only recently saw old photographs of him with hair .
This was a very good vlog entry Ash, I know this topic does effect a number of men. All I can say is "Embrace and own the NoHawk" chaps.
I started to shave my head way before I started to thin, so it wasn't a shock for me in the slightest.
I use a Pitbull Skull Shaver these days, they take the hair back to skin so it is a zero. I think I paid about €120 for mine. Not overly cheep but they are very quick and no fuss.
Blows my mind how men get so disappointed with hair loss. My buddy is "6'4 and fit. Bald guy who gets so down about his balding.
Well, it's a big shock when it starts happening....best to just get the clippers out and shave it, I did.
I've been losing my hair for years so i keep shaving it shorter as it thins. I really don't mind losing hair because it fought me all my life, now i shave it to the bark and it feels fresher.
One very important consideration is the fact that many people's skulls are mishapen, have other bizarre defects, birthmarks or chronic skin maladies hidden under their hair!
Perceived facial defects are also a main reason many men grow beards if they are able. To hide behind the mask.

I shaved my head fully a year ago, and haven’t looked back. My hair loss pattern is similar to Ash’s, and I got fed up with even getting the buzz cut. It is very liberating, and my confidence is improved as a result. I now shave my head every two days and have embraced traditional wet shaving for my face and head as a result.
Going bald is the best choice I ever made regarding my hair. I look and feel better.

I’m still in my 20s so I have plenty of time to enjoy my hair. Baldness doesn’t really run the the family, besides 1 of my blood related uncle who’s bald. I went buzz cut a few time which to me is the closest to being bald, & I prefer that over when I was trying to grow my hair during lockdown. Long hair just gets in the way of doing activities for me & don’t get me started on washing it. Might as well embrace balding since every male is gonna go through that eventually.

I've been dealing with hair loss for several years, but haven't quite gotten to the point of going all in and shaving my head. I know it's gonna happen one day, but I'm just not there yet.
It doesn't hurt, brother. I shaved my head at around 20 when I noticed I was starting to recede quite badly. I'm almost 46 now, and I'm glad I just bit the bullet when I did. Btw, chicks dig bald guys 😁

My hair loss is definitely genetic and my hair starting thinning in my early 20s. Like you, I kept it cut close while I was in the Army. Finally, after leaving the military, I was looking in the mirror and asked myself who I was fooling by parting my hair and combing it across. After that, I just stopped worrying about it and kept the sides cut short. About nine years ago, I shaved my head as part of a Halloween costume. A lady said I looked good that way, so I just started keeping it cut really short. I don't keep it shaved clean, but I don't let it grow much either and shave it back regularly. You're right; it's much easier not having to style my hair. The main thing is one HAS to wear a hat to avoid sun damage.
When long hair was the fad I was in the military and had to keep my hair short. I'm now nearing 80 and have lots of good hair and everyone is shaving their heads.
Great video, Ash. A lot of men are self-conscious about balding. Myself, I've always just dealt with it. I'm about a decade older than you and started losing my hair in my 30s, when I had much longer hair after keeping it short for the military. I'm back to short hair now with a widow's peak and bald crown, unlike your bald top and "fringe", so shaving it to stubble would look odd in my opinion. I just brush what little I have left in front to the side as I've always done and don't worry about it.
In my 20s I had as much hair as Pierce Brosnan, but by my 40s it was clearly starting to go, so I asked my barber for advice. The problem is that I have a very long thin face; she pointed out that baldness is fine if you’re one of these guys with a square jaw and a bull neck, but in my case I’d end up looking like John Malkovich. So I had to settle for a combover.
John Malkovich looks perfectly good bald. He might not be conventionally handsome, but he has a striking appearance. Surely that would be better than the combover.

My older brother is going very bald...and what he is doing is spraying his scalp black to hide the fact. To me, what he is doing is very noticable...but no one ever mentions it. I feel a bit sorry for him,he obviously cares alot about it. It would be best I think if he would embrace it....
You really should talk to your brother. Even at the risk of creating a small conflict.

In any case, he has a wife who will be aware (and I dare say may help him apply the product to places) so I think her words would mean more than mine...and I would be very surprised if she hadnt mentioned something already. If it was me, I would embrace the process and shave my head...dignified and doesnt look bad
As my head hair is thinning I've noticed that I'm getting more body hair, and of course more little hairs growing on and in my ears. The ear hairs to a point where I start to look like Yoda, unless taken care of......
I got my first gray hair at 23. By 33, I had a small bald spot on the back of my head. By my late 50s, I was half bald and all gray. I didn't care... at first. By my early 70s, I just didn't like the way I looked, so I had to make a choice... Statham or the Rock. Buzz cur, or skin. SKIN!! I cut it ALL off, and it wasn't that bad. I have to shave every other day to maintain the smooth. I'm still not quite used to it, but it looks better than it did.

You have one of those character faces that the hair loss makes no difference at all. Clipped like you have it in this footage gives you a clean, neat and tidy at all times appearance. In fact what people notice is not how much hair isn't there but how neat and tidy the hair that is there is.
My hair started thinning slightly in my fifties very slowly.I didn’t like it, but looking around men at my age now i still seem to have more hair . My wife says forget it you silly old sod you are now 77.
I think "The Grey House Shoe", makes a Chap look 10 years older. Completely Q ball bald looks far better.
I got a transplant and started using minoxidil and finasteride, i tried being bald it doesn't really suit my head shape. Even though i loved how simple the bald head lifestyle is having my hair back definitely felt like i got my youth back and the wife loves it😂
As said, it's scary. Just shave it close or shave it off. You'll be glad after the first couple of conversations about it.

I am bald about like you and it started when I was in my late 20's, but it was somewhat gradual. A slow retreat to the rear. I have never had a lady object to it. They know the secret. Baldness is tied to an abundance of testosterone, the male hormone. A lot of older guys with a thick head of hair have sex only as a distant memory. Eunuchs never go bald, ever.
And the most absurd thing is a comb-over. It always just looks like a comb-over and looks silly.
So if you are bald, march proudly forward.
Male pattern baldness is determined by your mother’s father. Personally I love not having hair and wet shave my head down to the skin almost every day. If you could offer me a full head of hair I honestly wouldn’t be interested. My advice to anyone starting to lose their hair is own it. Shave it all off and you’ll never look back

My hair has slowly receded away since the age of 16 , it’s never really bothered me .
It's my belief that men should embrace the physical changes that age brings, with as much dignity and grace as they can muster.
Toupees, hair weaves, dye-jobs, etc., all look artificial, and make those who employ these attempts at deception appear desperate, rather than debonaire.
I've got a bit of a bald spot myself, but I am beyond being bothered by it.
As an added bonus, thinning hair might encourage the well-dressed man to begin to embrace a variety of hats as part of his daily dress. -With the changing seasons, I pass from flat cap, to fedora, to Panama.
For my two cents, here is nice but dressing, neatly and smartly, having good decorum and being kind and fully present, and just being an overall gentleman are a lot more attractive than the best hair. Actually, I think some of the most attractive men are not typically attractive, but have these beautiful qualities (just mentioned) in spades.

What's your strategy for avoiding sunburn on the scalp? I always wear some sort of hat since I had a bad experience with sunburn on my head. Wearing hats isn't compatible with wearing a suit or such for work.
The hat is king.
I started loosing hair 15 years ago - went on 1mg finasteride from GP and no loss since.
Doesn’t that cause erection dysfunction.
@@TheChapsGuide not that I know of in majority of people. The dose also does give some limited protection against prostate cancer I understand as well.

Baldness suits some people, Patrick Stewart, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham I can't imagine any of them with hair and you see a few older pics of them with hair in their 20's and early 30's and its fair to say, they look better without hair.
Myself, north of mid 40's and I still have a full head of hair, maybe receded half an inch since my 20's. I have shaved my head, I had long hair in my 20's for about 7 years and just decided to get rid of it all and start of fresh and I gotta say, it really didn't suit me so I'm sort of glad I haven't lost my hair to the point that I have to start shaving it. But saying that, I face a very different hair battle that I am losing. Lets just say "Roy Batty from Blade Runner", yes its pretty much that.
I consider going bald down the line an excuse to buy a pure-white toupee and look like a cartoon villain. Just me? Just me.

Nobody notices or cares if you are balding or not as they are too obsessed with themselves to notice what you or anyone else looks like. If you are going a bit bald you can always do the Terry Nutkins style, the 80’s look is coming back 👍
Just don’t get a terrible implant job as a guy I used to know who had one looked like someone had been loading up a spud gun on his head.
You wouldn't worry about the wind blowing. It bothers Donald Trump a lot though. LOL He seems to be wearing the strongest hairspray available on the market.
I feel hanging onto something we are clearly loosing is, honestly, pathetic.
I'd have some other more drastic examples, but maybe it is because of this that hair-loss doesn't really concern me moving rapidly in the direction of 40 (I'm of `84 vintage).
Back some 8 years ago I started to notice the sides retreating utilizing the widows-peak route.
Not a massive thing, and it still isn't, but you have to realize that, at the time I was sporting a full back-length heavy metal look (and that's where it came from🤘, I have since, obviously - that's why I'm here - changed my general style preferences, though not my preferences in music, hence you get weird things like me wearing a black chino suit at a power-metal concert...) and this looks *abysmal* once you develop even a slight widow's peak.
So with a heavy heart I decided to change it to a (halfway) disconnected undercut.
I'll probably leave at that for as long as possible (though really *not* into "comb-over" territory) for the simple reason that my head is somewhat scarred and slightly deformed, curtsey of a lorry now 16 years ago, and I'd not like to have this on *full* display all the time... though I wear hats anyway (and did so before, if that has pushed that preference I don't know, probably though if I'm honest) and I believe myself to be a somewhat vain bloke but not even remotely sufficiently vain to mask anything that obvious.
I feel the true (perceived) problem with hair-loss is the usual:
The slightly insane (because it's... *time* based...time's eternal and unassailable people...🙄) youth obsession of our current society.
You either realize it's really not a problem (my best friend was an unwilling single 20 years and once he shaved his head he started to look really sexy and voila, he's now engaged... 'nuff said 😉) unless you *make* it a problem.

Since my beard is of substantially thick growth, what could I complain about?
There's always going to be fuzzy mass to trim and style...🤣

If women find you attractive with hair,then they'll find you attractive without hair.....thats you,not your hair....lifes to short to worry about things you cant change.
Never had trouble finding nice looking women. They dig confidence intelligence wit and humor. Not hair. At least that's what my wife told me. 😉
It’s difficult to style your hair when your hairline recedes, though i still don’t agree with the shave it all off brigade in many cases myself included. As for women not liking hair loss! Well I’m pretty sure having been through the most toughest environments over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution we would have been eliminated from the gene pool if that was the primary reason for women selecting us. Even if they don’t like us it’s better to find other interests than wrap yourself up too much in their opinion of you.
Once you stop worrying about what women think or say about your hair it's easy peasy. Like driving a 20 year old car thats perfectly functional. Men buy new cars and get hairpieces to try and increase their sexual market value. If you're married or otherwise celibate, you become free to stop worring about such things and pursue your OWN true passions and hobbies. Wanking is freedom my Chap's! Let go of the pursuit of street tacos!

Why do men feel that a shaved head is a solution. I think a natural looking balding is far better.

You definitely look better with hair, but if you're going bald, you should just go bald. Nothing says insecure wearing like toupees, hair plugs, combovers, hats ...
