If you're in Bermuda, you can wear dress shoes if you're wearing the Bermuda shorts and jacket combination.
I have a hard time with no-show socks. If the sock doesn't come up past the top edge of the shoe, the shoe always seems to rub against my skin too much.

I completely dislike flip-flops. To me, the individual wearing them looks like he's given up on life and can't even summon the energy to put on proper footwear.

At the height of summer when the temperature soars, I wear linen trousers with leather loafers, paired with linen of fine cotton shirts and a Panama hat in fedora style.
At the age of 58, I don't wear sandals, or sneakers, and although I own a couple of pairs of properly fitted chino shorts, I'm beginning to think that they are inappropriate for a man my age.
Those Chuka boots would look great with khaki chino shorts and a khaki shirt with epaulets...but then I'd feel like I was cosplaying the Desert Rats Vs. the Afrika Korps.

Canvas "Dek" slip on boat plimsoles for me Ash , comfy smart and a bargain at about £15 a pair. Navy and white will go with most summer outfits the striped side gussets have just enough detail to lift an otherwise plain basic shoe . Good topical video 👍regards from Kent.

These days I don't wear shorts, a good pair of slacks will keep you cooler then baking directly in the sun. Plus in my environment slacks protect the legs from abrasion and bugs 🤠
Living in Alberta Canada whatever I was doing when I did wear shorts was very casual, usually with a lot of walking. I usually wore coyote colour tactical boots or a desert boot. They are extremely comfortable and practical!!
Truly just commenting to help the algorithm and to say I enjoyed your video once again.

Birkenstock I find to look better than a regular pair of flip flops. Made from natural materials & resole able too. I have a pair of Boston & Arizona for when I’m on a last minute errand or casual events. I do have a pair of croc slides for when water comes into the situation.

It's an easy choice for me. I don't wear shorts in public. I wear shorts only when I'm cutting the grass, and then i wear running shoes. Away from the house, my summer (in Chicago) uniform is cotton/linen blend pants and a Polo shirt. A couple of years ago. I started wearing boat shoes (with sox) for summer. They're cooler and lighter than desert boots.

I live in the subtropics, so a short sleeved button up shirt in cotton or linen (often floral, or other bold prints, paired with solid colour cotton/linen blend shorts. Boat shoes for very casual (I know you disapprove, and I wouldn't wear them in the English countryside; but I think they fit the Aussie climate and attitude; and of course they've always been part of the preppy aesthetic in the US), suede loafers when I want to dress up a bit, suede loafers or suede derbys with light coloured cotton chinos if I want to dress up a bit more. Sadly it's very normal to see people in Australia entirely barefoot in summer, even in cafes and grocery stores and malls. or when they do put something on its flip flops.

Brands like Loake sell some very nice leather sneakers/trainers, both the cupsole variety and also the running shoe variety. They have good quality leather uppers and are fully leather lined. So they can be worn without socks though I tend not to do so.
They are though heavier than traditional trainers.
I own several pairs of both the Loake Bannister and the Loake Sprint.
Regarding sandals, something I rarely use but I do own a pair of Ecco Offroad sandals which are the only pair of sandals I've owned that support the foot properly. And if you're talking about wearing classic icons you have to acknowledge the Birkenstock cork footbed sandal that has been going for more than half a century.

    All around good advice here.
I break this down somewhat along the lines of function. For example, trainers are only for athletics. I recommend never wearing trainers as casual shoes, whether you're in shorts or not.
I am close to your thoughts on boat shoes. Having lots of time on boats, they really fit that culture well, and not too much more. I see them as very casual shoes, better than trainers, but not great otherwise.
Espadrilles are an excellent choice for summer shorts weather. They are casual but still elegant. Cary Grant wore them in To Catch A Thief.
I like brown suede sneakers with no socks (or no-show socks if you prefer). And I also like desert boots, though you have to be careful here, as the choice of shorts matters a lot.
And I could not agree more about covering the feet in public. Huaraches (if they cover the toes) are pretty good for hot climates, but work much better with trousers than shorts.
Those river shoes you have there are sport specific, and don't have a place as a casual shoe at all.

    @jonathont7866 Місяць тому

I also thought I'd add - Quoddy make some of the best boat shoes money can buy - hand made in Maine, fantastic buttery soft and comfortable hot stuffed leathers. Something that I think is really important, is that at any given time of year you should have a casual shoe that can be quickly thrown on without worrying about putting on your over the calf dress socks, or needing to use a shoehorn and which can be safely worn in all weather conditions - both from a perspective of not slipping and breaking your neck in the wet, and from the perspective of not ruining your shoes - Boat shoes are perfect in that role in summer, and I like my RM Williams chelsea boots in the same role in winter.

Good advice there, Ash, which I agree with. Ah, flip-flops and sliders - agreed, only for the beach or the swimming pool, and I don't own any either. I currently see some young guys (late teens/early 20s) even come into my gym to work out with weights/machines wearing sliders with socks 🤨and I'm itching to 'have a word', but I refrain.🤐😄
I have worn my Timberland boots with shorts, and walking boots especially if I am working outside or out on a walk, and they perform well and look OK. I have a similar rugged sandal to you which I wear when on holiday, typically for the beach or mooching around some hot mediterranean cobbled streets during the day, otherwise it's traditional-looking sneakers/trainers in white is my preference. This year I bought a pair of leather navy blue Loake Bannister trainers for summer - for wearing with both long and short trousers.

I'm not a shorts wearer outside of wearing basketball shorts around the house and to sleep. During the warm and rainy months (May through October) mosquitos will tear you up. However, when trekking through the mountains or something, then wearing boots with shorts makes sense. I think the more inconspicuous the footwear the better with shorts. Nothing higher than ankle height unless adventuring and something "fun" and in keeping with the season and activity, in my opinion.

re dress shoes and shorts. While in Bermuda on a cruise I came to dinner in classic Bermuda businessman style, sport coat, tie, Bermuds shorts, and black dress oxfords with tall black socks. I was the hit of the evening. Always threatened to wear that get up to a wedding or something stateside but never got the nerve, lol.
Honestly I wear Teva flip flops most of the warm months, but I try not to get overly public with them. I usually alternate between boat shoes and white sneakers if Im going out in shorts. I like the idea of desert boots, but my only pair is brown leather not suede so I save them for more temperate weather and jeans or chinos.

I live in the South of Spain where it is currently hotter than a matador's armpit. Linen shirts and shorts are my preference. Long sleeved shirts doubled back in the arms as you recommended in a previous video. Never put your wallet, mobile ,keys etc in the pocket of the shorts as it will cause them to sag. I use a small man- bag which is common here and does the job well. For shoes, light moccasins or, fashionable this year but still stylish, a sandal with a double strap in a nuetral or earth colour. Whilst your toes are exposed, most of the foot is covered and few people will be aware of your athlete's foot. 😂

A man should only expose his toes to dip them in the water. My favorite while in Florida are Sperry boat shoes as they’re easy to wear without socks, leather is a must and if they’re good enough for Bond they’re good enough for me. While in New Jersey white sneakers with shorts and chukkas with long pants. However, the exception is if my son and I wear the same shoe then I don’t care cause nothing beats us matching. 😂

I consider the use of shorts unnecessary, except when swimming or engaging in some sport or physical training. Other than that, I see no reason to wear shorts. As mentioned here before, linen pants offer more comfort than wearing Nike running shorts.
To achieve an aesthetically pleasing outfit, a perfect combination of elements is necessary, where the skin color, tone, and shape of your legs need to be 100% for a satisfactory result. This is easily achieved by wearing linen pants and loafers, for example.
I can’t see myself wearing flip-flops, espadrilles, sneakers, desert boots, or athletic shoes with shorts. All of these lack class and style, in my opinion.
The truth is, it is impossible to be elegant in a tropical summer. When temperatures are over 80 degrees, nothing is comfortable. You will sweat and feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, those who like to dress elegantly will feel better in a cooler climate where it is possible to dress well without melting from the heat.
