And if you want to try out the .craft file I made, check out my KerbalX or Steam Workshop pages. Both are linked in the video description.

    It’s simple, isn’t it?
    1: Take your airliner.
    2: Rip off the wings.
    3: Give it Dorito wings.
4: Stitch some huge booster to it.
5: Put some rockets on the back at a funky angle.
    6: Flick it vertically.
    7: See if it flies.

A little hint for the chutes: You can prevent the chutes from beeing destroyed by increasing the required min pressure up to 0.75. Somehow, the altitude limiter does not work on a uncontrolled stage but the pressure limiter does :)

Just suggest a few ideas - during development of shuttle there were many designs for consideration in NASA, maybe you could make in KSP what was rejected or denied in reality? Also, Soviet Buran was supposed to have jet engines to fly in case they would enter the atmosphere somewhere far, so they could fly to airfield and not just drop like a brick. So there are a lot of designs out there)

This build works very well with the clydesdale boosters but i recommend using terrier engines for the orbital manoeuvre system because the monopropellant thrusters have terrible thrust to weight. :)
Also take note during re entry once you go below 1000 m/s atleast on my experience the shuttle will lose stability really quickly and will want to go into a spin i would either overshoot the runway then use this spin to lose speed and height quickly or use trial and error.

    • @Madenity
      @Madenity 2 роки тому

You can use the orbital engines to stop your shuttle from undershooting the runway and the glider spinning is ok you should stop spinning halfway into the atmosphere since the flaps and sickness avoidance scheme should take care of it

I always thought the best test for control ability of a shuttle was to spawn on the pad with tail fin pointing heading 180 and then do a 90 degree roll just like in real life to correct the launch azimuth to heading 90. If you could do that while the solids were firing and you were still low in the atmosphere, it would usually behave pretty well for the whole flight.

Last time I had a shuttle in KSP that worked, it worked really well. As in, due to pilot error it came in several km over the runway. I proceeded to do a split-s and landed perfectly. I felt like such a badass and now I'm kinda afraid to try a shuttle again because I don't know how to beat that great l feat. Over 30 shuttle launches with landings on the runway after consecutive, non-reverted launches. I used the shuttle exactly how NASA used them in their last half. I built a big station and carried crew to and from it.

I find it extremely difficult to predict the direction of rotation when in the editor (ps4) Like you say in your video- I wish the default rotation of some parts was little better simply so I may avoid using the rotation tool. Not quite sure how I haven't gotten gud yet honestly. I usually just end up mashing the D-pad and hope the object rotates how I need it - usually takes between 3 and 10 flips! perhaps it works better on PC
Also find it hard to clip things onto the green attachment points sometimes as well - I'm looking for a function button that allows me to cycle over the attachment points while I have the part I want to add highlighted. it would be faster!
keep up the good work bud
