I love the flip in this movie of Nick being the serious one and Simon being the fuck up. It’s not as iconic as Shaun or Hot Fuzz, but I always enjoy the progression of the trilogy.

One thing that I love about the film is how because the "blood" of the Blanks is blue and their bodies so inhuman on the inside, it means that Wright can dial the violence to 11 and have us barely notice it. Both us and the censors are just thinking "Wow!" instead of "Ew..." simply because our brains aren't responding so instinctively to the "gore", while still appreciating the fun action
Absolutely, if the Blanks looked more real on the inside they probably would've been slapped with an 18 rating (equivalent to an NC-17 in the US) but it didn't factor into the rating at all
Its like what Sam Rami tried doing in the second Evil Dead with the dead-ites blood being green instead of red due to the near X rating he got on the first one.

Hey so as a car nerd I’ve got to point out that all of the cars in the back ground of the city are Vauxhall ampera’s which are all hybrids which is just a really good detail of the film that links to the fact that it was already over taken by robots by the time Gary and his friends got there Love the videos by the way :)
People often scoff when I name this as the best film in the Cornetto Trilogy, and even moreso when I name it as one of my favourite films ever, but it really is that good. Fundamentally, it is incredibly funny, on par with Wrights best work, but it also has so many layers, with little details that reward you on multiple viewings. For me, it is incredibly relatable, as when you're young, everyone has been on a pub crawl that got a little out of hand; but as I grow older, I start to sympathise with the growing up/people changing aspect of it too. All the little quirks, easter eggs, and what I like to call Edgar Wright-isms make this film such a classic and I hope one day, it might get the respect it deserves. There is so much too this film and I look forward to hearing your outro on this one because it could genuinely last for an hour.

I think one of the reasons it's not quite as resonant to US audiences is that they don't have the phenomenon of JD Wetherspoons and the brewery pub system.
If you gave me a choice of which movie in the trilogy to watch, I'd pick Hot Fuzz most of the time, because it's just more upbeat and feels good. But World's End is the best of the three, it's the most refined, intelligent and adult of all those movies. I do hope they'll break the trilogy and hit a fourth movie, because the growth in competency from Spaced -> Shaun -> Fuzz -> World's End is incredible.

On a technical level it is brilliant, but I'll rewatch Hot Fuzz regularly and can easily pass watching this again when I just want to be entertained.
Fuzz is more immediately likeable, as is Shaun, but this one is *_SSssooooo_* deep. Even for an Edgar Wright movie, the layers just go on and and on and on. There's *_always_* something new to spot.

I think the problem with Edgar's films, if indeed it can really be called a problem, is that people go into them expecting the usual cinema fare of, essentially, a burger and fries and he just casually serves up a 9-course banquet of a movie. With coffee and liqueurs. Which then means you need to watch it about 8 more times in order to appreciate it.
This is a far bleaker movie than the other Cornetto films. Also, as a Spaced fan, watching this movie made me feel like I was watching what Tim could have become. It's a brilliant movie, but unlike the others in the Cornetto trilogy, this is the only one I've never rewatched.
This is my favourite of the trilogy. It's surprisingly subtle for a movie that's ultimately about aliens destroying earth because Gary is a jerk. But that's one of the things I love about it. Simon Pegg really stepped up his game and he is not afraid to make Gary King thoroughly unlikable to the bitter end. Or lager end.
11:36 This is the best part of the movie because of 2 situations. First, I had a friend in highschool to college who used to get this drunk and act like this. Including punching random items with no remorse or damage to himself. His nickname was Tiny being 6'3" 300lbs. Second, watching this in a crowded theater the play is set up perfectly with Nick's Delivery of the line, turn around to immediate smash through a half open door to keep walking had immediate loud laughter for the entire thing and well into the next scene.

A small thing you missed. A staple really at this point with how lines keep getting repeated. When Gary meets up with Steven he learns about the door thingy he repeats it back to Andrew. Just stuff like that that keeps me up at night And I think he is going to win a tv show. My money is on WandaVision
Two things about Sam's "Oh crumbs!": 1. As far as I remember, she almost always says it in lieu of swearing, much like Oliver only ever says "WTF", which gives the impression of them having parents strict on swears. 2. "Oh crumbs!" isn't a random catchphrase, it's a legit britishism, albeit not a very common one. My grandma and Mum used to say it a lot and it slips out of me on occasion too.
I love that ive seen this movie probably 20 times now, and watching your videos i can still find new things i competly missed. Doing a deep dive into anything Edgar Wright makes really drives home how much time and effort he puts into his movies.

Me when I see everything great about the world’s end: Yessss! Part 1: YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! For reference, I finished the Cornetto Trilogy a few weeks ago and have been waiting for this for weeks. Something you missed/might be saving for the conclusion: when Gary picks everyone up at the station, one of them remarks it’s almost 4. A few minutes later when the camera quick cuts to each of them there are 4 bell tolls, with one being timed with each cut.
I am so, so glad you have made videos on Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and now The World's End. They are without a doubt my favourite films of all time and have been since i've see them years ago. There is an insane amount of little details and care that went into making them. They were clearly made because those involved wanted to make the best and put so much love into making them. I think not only is Edgar so good it's important to note that as joint writers, Simon is amazing at storytelling too. I can't wait for part 2! There's lots more to talk about for The World's End for sure! Also i'm honestly so impressed with the effort you put into researching for these videos. I'm a massive fan of The Cornetto Trilogy, having seen them all literally dozens of times, including commentaries yet you have still noticed things for all three that I haven't picked up on before. I wish I could like this video more than once!
I really think the Cornetto trilogy will go down as a legendary buddy horror comedy. I will always remember the first time I watched it, with my best friend at that time, sadly we have no contact anymore. We had some cheap Wodka and decent weed, long story short we watched the whole trilogy that night, and i will always remember that night as more simpler and easier times now i am a dad of 3 young children and life is really wonderful and random at the same time, i will always watch this trilogy from time to time just for the nostalgia i get from it I miss the simpler times.

Shaun of the dead and hot fuzz get so much attention and although I think they’re funnier movies I think the worlds end might be one of the most under appreciated movies ever. The climax where Gary is fighting Andy is genuinely emotional and feels like a realistic depiction of an alcoholic truly depending on alcohol as an escape from a boring and uneventful life that isn’t nearly what you thought it would be in high school

I can't even remember how many times i have watched this movie just to put off boredom! Every time this movie succeeded. Not many movies have this quality where you get sucked into their world!! Will cherish this for lifetime.
Mostly filmed in my hometown of Letchworth!!! Simon Pegg filmed a special message thanking the town that was played at the beginning of the film when it played in the local cinema!
For my money, the best written of the Cornetto Trilogy from a character stand point. Gary's story here is so sad. He literally destroys the world of his friends just so he never has to grow up and face his problems, and he travels the decimated world stuck in the past with friends that are of the same mental age of himself. Hot Fuzz is my favourite, but The World's End is amazing and sorely underrated.
This is flat out my favorite film. Literally, the only things I’d change are dumb nitpicks like Gary’s SOM tattoo looks a little off/fake. I love the acting and every joke lands exactly how it’s supposed to. Most comedies I see usually have a few jokes that miss. But not this. It’s as close to a perfect film as you could get
One other thing that is consistent across the Cornetto Trilogy is that the arcade game Ed plays at the beginning of Shaun of the Dead (at 00:01:19) appears in both Hot Fuzz (at 00:10:45 and 1:38:05) and in The World's End (at 1:19:45). Just something cool that links these movies together :)
Hot take, but this is my favorite of the trilogy and generally one of my favorite movies ever. It’s Frost, Pegg, and Wright at the top of their games in a far more mature but still extremely stylistic movie.

This is a far bleaker movie than the other Cornetto films. Also, as a Spaced fan, watching this movie made me feel like I was watching what Tim could have become. It's a brilliant movie, but unlike the others in the Cornetto trilogy, this is the only one I've never rewatched.

This is my favourite of the trilogy. It's surprisingly subtle for a movie that's ultimately about aliens destroying earth because Gary is a jerk. But that's one of the things I love about it. Simon Pegg really stepped up his game and he is not afraid to make Gary King thoroughly unlikable to the bitter end. Or lager end.
Literally one of my all time favorites. SUCH an underrated film in the Cornetto trilogy.
11:36 This is the best part of the movie because of 2 situations. First, I had a friend in highschool to college who used to get this drunk and act like this. Including punching random items with no remorse or damage to himself. His nickname was Tiny being 6'3" 300lbs. Second, watching this in a crowded theater the play is set up perfectly with Nick's Delivery of the line, turn around to immediate smash through a half open door to keep walking had immediate loud laughter for the entire thing and well into the next scene.

When Gary says "Paint it red", it was actually foreshadowed at the ending where the town was completely red since it got destroyed.
Another neat little detail is that everyone who ends up becoming a blank is wearing blue

You missed the fact that the guys giving history lessons about the word robot are the robot wars guys and Mike's army buddies from Spaced. Also, the bartender around 10:26 mark is Mark Heap who played Brian Topp in Spaced as well.

A small thing you missed. A staple really at this point with how lines keep getting repeated. When Gary meets up with Steven he learns about the door thingy he repeats it back to Andrew. Just stuff like that that keeps me up at night

Two things about Sam's "Oh crumbs!":
1. As far as I remember, she almost always says it in lieu of swearing, much like Oliver only ever says "WTF", which gives the impression of them having parents strict on swears.
2. "Oh crumbs!" isn't a random catchphrase, it's a legit britishism, albeit not a very common one. My grandma and Mum used to say it a lot and it slips out of me on occasion too.

For reference, I finished the Cornetto Trilogy a few weeks ago and have been waiting for this for weeks.
Something you missed/might be saving for the conclusion: when Gary picks everyone up at the station, one of them remarks it’s almost 4. A few minutes later when the camera quick cuts to each of them there are 4 bell tolls, with one being timed with each cut.
It took me THIS LONG to realize that the 6 on Oliver's birthmark lines up with the fact that he goes out in pub 6.
I am so, so glad you have made videos on Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and now The World's End. They are without a doubt my favourite films of all time and have been since i've see them years ago. There is an insane amount of little details and care that went into making them. They were clearly made because those involved wanted to make the best and put so much love into making them. I think not only is Edgar so good it's important to note that as joint writers, Simon is amazing at storytelling too. I can't wait for part 2! There's lots more to talk about for The World's End for sure!
Also i'm honestly so impressed with the effort you put into researching for these videos. I really think the Cornetto trilogy will go down as a legendary buddy horror comedy. I will always remember the first time I watched it, with my best friend at that time, sadly we have no contact anymore. We had some cheap Wodka and decent weed, long story short we watched the whole trilogy that night, and i will always remember that night as more simpler and easier times now i am a dad of 3 young children and life is really wonderful and random at the same time, i will always watch this trilogy from time to time just for the nostalgia i get from it I miss the simpler times.
It's a testament to this trilogy that even though it's my least favourite of the films, I still absolutely love this movie!

Shaun of the dead and hot fuzz get so much attention and although I think they’re funnier movies I think the worlds end might be one of the most under appreciated movies ever. The climax where Gary is fighting Andy is genuinely emotional and feels like a realistic depiction of an alcoholic truly depending on alcohol as an escape from a boring and uneventful life that isn’t nearly what you thought it would be in high school

For my money, the best written of the Cornetto Trilogy from a character stand point.
Gary's story here is so sad.
He literally destroys the world of his friends just so he never has to grow up and face his problems, and he travels the decimated world stuck in the past with friends that are of the same mental age of himself.
Hot Fuzz is my favourite, but The World's End is amazing and sorely underrated.
You having to break this and Hot Fuzz up into two-parters tells you just how much of a genius Edgar Wright is as a director.

This is flat out my favorite film. Literally, the only things I’d change are dumb nitpicks like Gary’s SOM tattoo looks a little off/fake. I love the acting and every joke lands exactly how it’s supposed to. Most comedies I see usually have a few jokes that miss. But not this. It’s as close to a perfect film as you could get
i love every time you do an Edgar Wright movie. especially since you pile on the Spaced references, a criminally underrated show.

One other thing that is consistent across the Cornetto Trilogy is that the arcade game Ed plays at the beginning of Shaun of the Dead (at 00:01:19) appears in both Hot Fuzz (at 00:10:45 and 1:38:05) and in The World's End (at 1:19:45). Just something cool that links these movies together :)

Hot take, but this is my favorite of the trilogy and generally one of my favorite movies ever. It’s Frost, Pegg, and Wright at the top of their games in a far more mature but still extremely stylistic movie.
This film could just be called "The many setups and payoffs" as there's so many and they're all so satisfying!
