I totally agree with the lack of variety, but I don't think it's really that big of a negative thing here because of a few points.
First of all, the game is very quick, fast and easy to play, so it doesn't matter to me if the tiles seem the same that much (I have played 11 games and haven't gotten tired of them)
Secondly, you can never get all the tiles you want and it's easy to try different strategies, so the variety comes in that you can never get everything anyway. Like, this game I want to focus on military, now on the yellow die and culture, etc etc. I know these are simple choices, but the game is fast and quick too, so I think it balances out.
Third point is accessibility. I think this is the kind of gateway game, that you can play with anyone, so if all the tiles (or many of them) had different things and icons (think Race for the Galaxy), this could quickly overstay it's welcome, since it would turn a clean, simple dice game to some weird combination of medium and light game, which is often bad atleast in my opinion.
Anyway, just a little bit of a different take on this. I too, would love an expansion that modifies the game, maybe even adds a new die or fleshes out the food/military aspect, but I am happy with the game as is (a quick yathzee-style filler with some theme and a little meat), but if I want more meaningful choices or variety I play something a bit heavier anyway.

I have played this game several times in a few weeks with new palyers. We used the expansion Unreast (parts off it rather). It does add to the game. Passing gives you something for example and you use all tiles also with three players. The exansion allows for different player boards/starting advanrtage. The setup is very quick if the box is sorted. Keep the starting dice & chits in one bag and keep tiles sorted age by age. The dice game is very influenced by Nations (the board game). Both are good but lack a catch up mechanic.

Great review. I appreciate how you do an intro, then overview and finally a summary/review for each game. I look forward to your videos. To comment on Nations the Dice game, the problem for me is that needing an expansion to make it good is not worth it. I don't mind paying for expansions, but only to enhance the game or add some variety after I have played it numerous times. For example Terra Mystica and Eclipse are great and I only bought expansions just to see new content even though I was happy with the base game. To start off buying a game that needs an expansions doesn't work for me. Thanks again!

Pryde551 I totally agree, for my position it's more that I already own the base game so i'd be interested in an expansion that fixed it. If I was looking at it from a position of not having a copy i'd just forgoe the whole thing knowing that it is unfulfilling as a base game.

I agree on the variability. I was highly excited for it when it was announced, but after watching multiple reviews and seeing the game I cooled a lot on it and unless some future expansion(s) help it out it is one I will have to pass on unless I get it really cheap at some point. I'd rather find the time to play the full normal Nations game by far.

After 5 plays I got bored of the game too. Needs a juicy expansion to fix it.
