This looks awesome :) Except for component quality, which looks like something from cold war era eastern europe.
hi, so this seems interesting. I was super into Nations but never got it because, I could already see my other "gamers" nick away after I explain the many rules. (weirdly enough I live in germany the boardgame country but most people around me dont play them. Its cruel) So this simplified and short dice version seems really interesting to scratch my civ building itch. You can explain it probably in under three minutes while setting up and be off to a good short game. And the best part since its so short one can play one round and then do another one right after because all the new player got the hang of it. (also it serves the small attention span of my partner gamers ;) )
The turn structure of incremental small moves really reminds me of Terra Mystica, oddly enough. It is probably the theme and end of round scoring that strikes the similarity too.
/pointless observation of the day.
It looks like a pretty interesting game but the art and component quality just isn't doing much for me...if I didn't have a few other great games calling me that have better presentation I might not care but as is I think I'm gonna have to pass for now.
Will have to check out my FLGS to see if they have a demo copy I can fall in love with and change my mind. Until then, I think Discoveries is winning out for me. Can't wait for that to come!
Unfortunately it's not a prototype. I also played the game at the Spiel in Essen, and like Nations, the components are the weakest part of the game. I don't get it why the production quality of an Asmodee title is so damn cheap? The game is really good, but I am really pissed that Asmodee sells both Nations titles way overpriced for what you get in return (regarding components). Both are great games though.
damn You Rhado !!! :P i wasn't interested in this.... i wasn't..... ;-)
Looking good i must say this runthrough got me interested in this. Thanks :)
That is right up my alley
Is this a prototype? If not the quality looks bad. The score board is warping, not a good sign.
Also you never explained trading dice to get either Gold, Food or Stone, 2 for 1 as free actions.
If you had traded 1st or 2nd Age someone would have been able to get a leader because of all the wasted dice, just saying :)
I second Jerry's comment. I am about 3 min. in the video and that's my immediate observation. It looks incredibly cheap. I mean, the board seem warped and at around 4:40, you can already see Jen's Persia board corner bent. We may as well print it on paper. I really hope it's a prototype.
Yann Hillion it's not warping, because it's not cardboard. the components are similar to what you get in the full nations game - same art, same card stock for player boards instead of full cardboard...
can you please explain (slowly) how the score cards in the middle work? also setting up of those square thingymabobbers. Keep up the good work. Love your channel
not sure what the square things are, but the score tiles are simple. they simply show you how much food and military you need at the end of an era to score some bonus points. this is demonstrated near the end of this vid :)
Hmm.. some of the dice icons could be a little more distinct, but nevertheless, this is a cool game!
Does this game feel too luck dependent? From the run through, it looks like there's actually a fair bit of strategy and luck mitigation through rerolls, etc...?
Bayden Hammond i wouldn't say so :)
Hi rahdo, thank you for review. Is this print quality just as "good" as nations? :)
***** yes, comparable across the board i'd say
dice brewing vs nations: the dice game. is my question?
Jason Wayne Speicher haven't played dice brewing yet...
hey just caught this video... SO maybe you can help me; I'm looking for a good solo dice game, something simple like DeepSpace D6... Roll For the Galaxy is too heavy... This game is a little too heavy as well. Still considering Favor Of the Pharaoh but as I said, not sure it would be fun solo. The only other resource/dice building game I've seen that looks very solo-able is Istanbul Dice. Just wondering if you would have any other ideas for these kind of solo games. OH... btw, I just picked up Escape The Dark Castle.... dice, cards, not a lot of resource building but looks cool. Havent played it yet. I also play Space Base solo... super fun... roll, gather cards, build your scoring "engine". OK hope you have a few suggestions. This game here... Nations... pass :(
actaully you might want to check out dino world which is coming on kickstarter shortly. i've played it and was pretty impressed, and i think it would well solo :)
I can recommend Firefly Shiny dice.
Mortymer Vegas i read about firefly shiny dice... looks and sounds clunky, ambiguous. Pass on that. Thanks though.
Wanted to share with rahdo these Halfsies dice. I think they're pretty, backers vote on colors, and not a bad price. I thought Jen might like them too, to use with some games.

what are the nations?
I mean which nations are in this game?
SARMANTINE umm, egypt, rome, persia, china and... and... umm... greece, i think :)
***** Well, thats a disappointment, i saw Tesla in the cover so i thought that Serbia is included too... Thanks anyway
10:02 You actually rolled 2 stone, not 2 culture :)
noted... thanks
