We'll be live Sunday night for another adventure in Return to Moria! ua-cam.com/users/liveGpjCIaFC9tQ?feature=share
The siege and fall of the capital of Eregion, Ost-in-Edhil (literally Fortress of the Eldar), is one of those critical turning points of the Second Age that Tolkien frustratingly leaves threadbare...on the plus side it leaves plenty of space to imagine an echo of the Fall of Gondolin, with Celebrimbor the last fighting at the doors of the House of the Mírdain to keep Sauron out.
Celebrimbor was a gigachad elf like Fingolfin, no way he didn't.
The only reason he surrendered at the end was because Sauron claimed to have his family captured and promised that they would be reunited. Sauron in typical fashion tortured and killed his family in front of him, then beat him to death with his own mithril smithing hammer. Only after his death did he allow the orcs to have their fun using his torso as an archery target.
The absolute hate and disrespect Sauron showed towards one elf, was never before seen nor heard from again in Middle Earth. That's how badly Celebrimbor f*cked up Sauron's plan to enslave the world with the rings.
Fëanor may have crafted the Silmarils , but Eregion forging a friendship with the Dwarves seems like a greater feat. You can't simply hammer hearts into the shape you desire.
Well said!
I concur. 😎
Beautifully said
True but he wasn’t the first just the most successful and fruitful collaborator with the dwarves. In Beleriand Thingol, Finrod, sons of Feanor and Eol had great partnerships with dwarves.
no way
it's a head cannon of mine that on the march to aid Elrond against Sauron the Dwarfs recovered Celebrimbor body, and he was buried in Khazad-dûm as one of the greatest blacksmiths. The first and only elf buried at the great halls of Dwarf lords
Oh Eregion, the realm created by Feanor's grandson. How could it not be glorious?
"We have reached the borders of the country that Men call Hollin; many Elves lived here in happier days, when Eregion was its name..." -- Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring, "The Ring Goes South"
Eregion is one of my favorites among the Noldorin realms, and it has been since I first read the name in the second chapter of The Lord of the Rings, even though all I really knew about it at the time was that it was the place where Elven smiths made magic rings. The more I read about it, the more fascinated I became. Thanks for this video!
I like the idea that Gandalf chooses for them to rest near where the Ring of Fire he bears was forged
I’m so thankful for all the videos you make about this universe! I think I’ve watch every single video of yours over 2 channels, and do not mind to watch videos again.
They are wonderfully made and are true to the lore that Tolkien made :)
I have no idea how much time you spend on your research per video, even quoting the letters of Tolkien sometimes, thank you so much!
This is likely the realm I'd want to visit if I could go to any place in Middle-Earth during any Age. How wonderful a place it must have been, and full of people creating things great and small.
My kind of people
Eregion was one of my favorite areas to visit in Lotro. They did a great job allowing you to dig into the old lore both out in the wilds and among the ruins of dungeons.
Congrats on a well-deserved 1 million subs! Love your videos - so enjoyable and informative. By the way, maybe you should try to do an interview with the Clamavi de Profundis: that would be epic!
One of the things I couldn’t stand the most about The Rings of Power was their portrayal of Celebrimbor as a seemingly fragile old man. This dude was the grandson of the most powerful and spectacular elf that ever lived. Unforgivable
Celebrimbor was tall, fair and strong, gifted in crafting. Much like his grandfather,Fëanor. Shame on Amazon!
Well rings of prime is just terrible overall

I am enjoying this story videos as much as a movie 😁 Great work as always!
Another beautiful video.
I love this channel makes me so happy
Another Saturday. Another Lore video!!! Highlight of my week. 🎉
That's what happens when you let another elf from the House of Feanor be in charge. You get another disaster. Things were going well. House Finarfin in power makes for a peaceful existence. House Feanor in charge is another reason to go to therapy for PTSD.
you should see the kitkots of Idhrael , absolute feanorian mad house :)))
This was always my favorite place to explore in Lord of The Rings The Third Age on the PlayStation 2.
Eregion (aka Hollin) has many connections to the Netherlands (Holland). Both meaning Land of Holly Trees. Amidst Holland and Amsterdam (Ost-en-Edhil) lies the origins of Christmas in the Tale of Sinterklaas & Zwarte Pete. The making of gifts (Rings) by Elves (Gwaith-i-Mirdain) and the distribution of them by Santa Claus on his sleigh led by 9 Reindeer (9 Nazgul Riders).
Do you know the dutch christmass horror movie Sint? (Saint) :ppp
Thank goodness for this video to wash away the bad memories of what was done in Amazon's Rings of Power
Love the Art! Great video Matt, as always. I have so much admiration for the Elf ( I can't remember his name darn it! 🤣), who endured the torture and didn't break. He defied Sauron to the end. That was a truly selfless act. A hero! 🤘😁🖖🇨🇦🕊️
Celebrimbor is his name, last of Fëanor's house.
Great video bro one of the best ones uve done in recent days not tht all of ur videos aren't awesome cuz they are but seriously great video bro have a good weekend!!!
Congrats on 1million subscribers too bro well deserved!!
That was great! The alternative storyline makes me wonder if it was used, in part, as a basis for some of the story in the Rings of Power series.
While Gil-galad was the high king of the Noldor who chose to remain in Middle-earth during the Second Age, Eregion's political position there is unclear. After Sauron came to Eregion in the guise of Annatar, the rebellion against Galadriel and Celeborn by Gwaith-i-Mírdain, led by Celebrimbor, indicates that this kingdom has an autonomy independent of Gil-galad. According to Unfinished Tales, this situation of Galadriel, who seems to have been in control of Eregion for a while, can be read as a reflection of the motivation that formed the basis of her departure from Valinor and the continuation of her policy towards Fëanor, through her grandson Celebrimbor.
NEW VIDEOOOOOO!!! Time to ring the springle til you feel the tingle.
My favorite time in the history of Middle Earth I think. One of your better vids and you've done many. Enough of the survivors of the great 1st ages supernatural "age of gods" time period but this 2nd age of names who survived the end of the 1st age on into the last shadows of this "supernatural" in the 3rd age. Great job putting all the events of this time into a interesting, greatly illustrated video. Great artwork!! It's the way I see the story too.
Nice work dude thanks
I’d love to see a video of the dwarves during the first age and what they were up to ❤
The naming of things around here.
"Oh, what is this place?"
"This is dwarf-house, where dwarves live. Over there is elf-fortress, where elves live"
"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." Gospel of Matthew 7:15
Literally Sauron
@@conlangknow8787literally the wolf of little red riding hood.
Literally Morgoth
You will cry for them to save you, but in return they will enslave you.
Good advice, regardless.
The Rings of Power show should have made Celebrimbor the main character until his demise by Sauron/Annatar:
1) His character arc revolves around him desiring to match the greatness of his grandfather Feanor, his hidden romantic feelings for Galadriel, and desire to use the Mithril discovered in the Misty Mountains as his "means" to achieve that dream of creating a great new elven realm in Eregion while creating somthing comparable to the Silmarils done by Feanor!
2) During this time, the show would have him come across Narvi and the season builds their friendship to where they eventually construct the Doors of Durin together and it creates a good alliance/trade between the two races. However, this then brings Sauron to disguise himself to Eregion as Annatar.
3) He gains Celebrimbor's trust by showing him how to create the 2nd "Eflstone/Elessar," which Celebrimbor gives as his "last ditch" effort to win the heart of Galadriel. She accepts the gift and beings to have conflicted feelings to Celebrimbor while not trusting the person calling himself Annatar now. Consequently, she leaves for Lorien.
4) Brokenhearted, Celebrimbor goes on a forage trip to help get his mind of Galadriel, but Sauron secretly orders orcs to attack his small company, but thankfully Narvi had discovered the orcs base camp and learned they were gathering a hunting party for an elf named Celebrimbor.
5) Celebrimbor gets ambushed by the orcs and is nearly killed by the orc leader, but Narvi and small company of dwarves comes to his aid. Right after Narvi kills the orc leader, Sauron appears and kills everyone except Celebrimbor. He decides to only knock out Celebrimbor because he sees him as means to achieve his dream of becoming the next Dark Lord.
6) Celebrimbor wakes up to find Narvi was killed by Sauron (not knowing he's Annatar too) and realizes that he needs to strengthen Eregion to fight Sauron and the orc base camp that was recently moved south away from the Misty Mountains. Consequently, Annatar offers him to form the "Gwaith-i'Mirdain" group to build weapons/defense/etc. for this upcoming war with Sauron.
7) You get the final scene with Sauron/Annatar holding paper designs for Rings and talks in his black speech that he will use Celebrimbor to build Rings of Power for every race on Middle Earth to own, but he will then construct the One Ring to Rule them All and achieve his goal of becoming the next Dark Lord of Middle-Earth.
I was thinking in this videos can tou make theories about what can happen in eregion in the show rings of power?
“Your skin will fly in the wind”-Sauron to Celebrimbor, Shadow of Mordor
His body was used as a battle standard,so Sauron was telling the truth.
@@c.antoniojohnson7114 oh, I know
Off topic, but the Legolas quote reminds me that Legolas self identified as a Silvan Elf. All the more reason that the notion that there would be prejudice against him becoming romantically involved with a Silvan Elf is wrong.
God this channel is so gooood
The drawing at 8:35 is just sooooo dope
Stylistically it doesn't do much for me, but I love the spectre of Sauron's evil form lurking behind his fair form. That's a really neat touch.
Heyyyyy! The blue wizards did something!
Brilliant analysis--unmissable!
It's sad that two realms with a great friendship were both fallen by two former servants of Melkor
Great video!
They should make a movie or TV show about this story or something.
The way you just repeat the lore is already in every way better then the RoP adaptation
On a different subject I was wondering if frodo had bilbos mithril shirt on weathertop would the morgul blade still stabbed him??
Eregion was such a threat to Sauron, he torched it. All of it. Made the dwarves shut Khazad-dûm. Scary was Annatar. How did Celebrimbor ever come to trust this gift giving turd burglar? Keep up the great work Mellon!! ECTHELION!!!
Can't wait to see these stories well done in Rings of Power. A very canon and cool story
Idk if this is sarcasm but I feel like it is because it's just TOO perfect for it. RoP was an absolute nightmare for almost every Tolkien fan I've seen 😢
Very informative video
If only the Rings of Power show could have just used this as a plan for the series.
We’re there any major Eldar craftsman after the fall of Eregion? If so who were they, where did they reside, and did they craft anything of importance?
Indeed! Rivendell was originally the refugee camp of the survivors of Ost-in-Edhil that Elrond rescued as his army retreated from the sack of the city. Over time Imladris evolved into a stronghold and proper settlement. The Noldor smiths that remained would later reforge Anduril.
@@LordTelperion Thank you for the response. Yeah Rivendell became something of a reflection of Gondolin, and I know their smiths reforged Anduril, which was originally made by dwarves, but I was wondering if there was anyone of renown past the fall of Eregion and if they made anything of significance.
Ohh just had a thought, I know they weren’t of elven make, but the Barrow weight blades that were special in their make, were made be the Dunedain for the specific purpose of use against the Nazgûl. These the Hobbits received from Tom Bombadil after their rescue from the Barrow Downs.
Drinking Game: Take a shot every time he says "Feanor himself"
That's a very sad video. But good. Thks nerd❤
I would like to think that the last of feanor sons died in the fall of eregion in an epic redemption arc
Grand son
@@00martoneniris86haha Sorry i should have been more specif, I was meaning Maglor, since his fate is unknown, but I guess people would think I was talking about Celebrimbor
He drowned in the water
@@00martoneniris86 source? Last I remember he just walked away singing
Most likely
And it's my own believe
Gotta say, with such magical abilities that elves had been given, they have nothing against Sauron's pandering.
Everything starts with Fëanor, his flame burned too bright. Like a shooting star.
Epic content man! Would love to have you do a lord of the rings audio book :D
I be waiting for videos to drop like tv episodes @NerdoftheRings
Is that Legolas with correct colored hair?
Do more history videos boss good work more blessings bro⭐️
Love your videos thankyou!

Beautiful video
Is there a video on Galadriel and her significance?
Still can't figure out why ROP casted a congressman to play Celebrimbor. Sad.
I’m just glad that they didn’t try to make Celebrimbor into a WWE wrestler like those horrible shadow of Mordor games did.
What's with the great smiths of Middle Earth. They either get terribly screwed by a Dark Lord or fall to evil: Aule, Sauron, Saruman, Feanor, Celebrimbor, etc.
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall" Proverbs 16:18
How can the Blue Wizards have hampered Sauron's attack in 1695 SA? Surely the wizards didn't come to Middle Earth until part way through the Third Age?
also a lovely herb
Nice Episode ❤
Celebrimbor gives me mad combos
Sir, who is the author of the art in thumbnail? I'm aware you posted a list of all the creators, but said list is quite extensive.
Do you not include any shots from the show because of copyrights ? I rewatched the Rivendell video for example and there are no shots from the movies either so I wonder if it’s the same issue
I tend to lean toward art depictions rather than live action. Sometimes I will use a shot from adaptations when there isn't art available, but I usually opt for art when available.
@@NerdoftheRings I see fair enough 😁👍
good
why are you using that completely out-of-scale version of beleriand overlay map?
I’ve got a question regarding Arwen… who buried her? Or to put it bluntly did she just lay down to die alone in Lorien and decompose?
She did indeed give up her life, laying down on the hill Cerin Amroth in Lorien, the same place where she and Aragorn were betrothed. There was no grave or marking for her.
@@NathanLoewen I read that yes. I just assumed it was an unmarked grave. But the fact that she left alone after Elessars passing to slowly die out of a broken heart in a forest alone, gave the idea that she was died and nature took its course.
You have source material that says that the two blue wizards worked against Sauron in the east?? I need dis!
You'll wanna check out the chapter "Last Writings" in The Peoples of Middle-earth. Enjoy!
Sauron is far more dangerous and evil than Morgoth!
If Sauron was not aware of the three rings, how are they included in the Ring verse? I guess I am asking where the full version of the Ring verse comes from, as only the last line is inscribed on the One itself.
Sauron didn’t write the whole ring verse, only the last line.
Frodo presumably wrote the whole thing.
@@ryancruz1876 On consulting with the text, the Ring verse comes from Elven lore. If it was written by the Elves, of course they knew about the Three.
But that makes one wonder how the Elves knew about the verse inscribed on the Ring, which was written by Sauron in the language of Mordor?
@@andrewparle9183They heard it when Sauron put on the One Ring and that’s how the One Ring to rule them all verse was added to the elven lore.
Nerd of the rings 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Sauron was right to be afraid of an alliance of Elves, Dwarves, and Men.
No Watcher on the Water discussion eh?
The holy land of Hollin.
Where was Gondor when eregion is besieged?
gondor was still not founded gondor was still apart of numenor
Annatar was too fair, that's a red flag.
Have you considered a collaboration with GirlNextGondor?
Wait a minute. You said Celebrimbor made the Silmarils. Was it not Feanor?
Yes, his Grandfather Feanor did.
Sorry for the confusing phrasing there. Yes, I was saying his grandfather Feanor who made the silmarils.
Nenya is the ring of air not water. Vilya is the ring of water.
No, Nenya is the ring of Water/Adamant. Matt is correct, Vilya is air and Narya is Fire.
dude beaitugul video
Blue wizards in the 2. age ??? , i thought the wizards were only mentioned as wizards in the 3rd age.
„Their task was to circumvent Sauron: to bring help to the few tribes of Men that had rebelled from Melkor-worship, to stir up rebellion ... and after his first fall to search out his hiding (in which they failed) and to cause [?dissension and disarray] among the dark East ... They must have had very great influence on the history of the Second Age and Third Age in weakening and disarraying the forces of East ... who would both in the Second Age and Third Age otherwise have ... outnumbered the West.“ (J.R.R. Tolkien, "Last Writings", The Peoples of Middle-earth)
Who where the other emissaries before Sauron came himself
That's a great question! My editor and I were actually chatting about that when considering making that portion map-oriented...which token would we use? It's not a nazgul bc they aren't around yet. Not a black numenorean because he hasn't corrupted them yet. It basically leaves us with (most likely) Easterling messengers.
@@NerdoftheRings probably I would maybe my guess would be some of the middle men in places like minhiriath and enedwaith because of their hate for numenor it’s likely maybe Sauron influenced them and trained one to be diplomatic but that’s a crazy guess on my part that makes more sense to me
@@NerdoftheRings I wouldn't think the Elves would pay much attention to Easterlings. But Sauron might have managed to capture and corrupt a few Númenoreans from the earlier exploratory voyages they made.
I see where the Rings of Power show is drawing its inspiration. Its from the alternative tale not the well know one.
Fun fact: Galadriel has a husband!

The Blue Wizards arrived in the third age though...
Tolkien actually changes when the Blue Wizards arrived in Middle Earth later on in his life to coming with Glorfindel in the Second Age instead of the Third age with the other Istari. Check out the chapter Last Writings in the HoME book Peoples of Middle Earth.
Tolkien changed that later so that they arrived in the middle of the second age.
