Film by: Dòl Eoin MacKinnon & Ross B. Wilson
    Lyrics:
The coming of the winter snow upon the highland hills
Hits the mind with sorrow blind and numbs the cutting chills
Our morning days in youthful haze we'll never see again
And all the years we thought we had have left our hallowed glen
Oh if the sun comes down in December?
And the snow lies over the green
I’ll leave the last drop in my glass to remember
The eyes of my highland queen.
That Christmas day so long away when first I saw her eyes
Now every year she reappears in dark December skies
The moon it shone above the Ben as we kissed below the plough
The stars were singing as we lay upon the frosted ground
But maybe we will meet again on the circle of the sea
And in this world or the next I’ll feel her close to me
And the golden west horizon will be ours for just a while
When the snowflakes of our future will melt upon her smile
il o ho ro 's tu mo run
il o ho ro 's tu mo nighean

Beautiful song. It hits home so hard that this song refers to December, which is the last month I really had with my first wife, who died in 2011 from cystic fibrosis, aged 28. She had a (relatively) healthy December, we went out for New Year's Dinner, she woke up ill first day of 2011, and a few days it was off to the hospital from which she never came out of alive.

No other accent graces the English language like a Scottish accent, and few can turn a phrase like the Scots.

It’s amazing to know that people from the states actually listen to our music. Scottish folk is brilliant and I’m glad that people from other places are experiencing this with us!

Was checking out BBC Alba from Ontario, Canada here to help me along with learning Scottish Gaelic. All my family is from Scotland and I want to know the language and pass it on to my children (Heather MacFarlane is my first and middle name lol) anyway, I came across a New Years Eve performance of your group...what can I say!! I am in love and will share this like crazy. What An AMAZING talent you all are with a sound that is brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us all!

For those wishing for a translation for the Gaelic parts, here is what I have interpreted:
I believe the first like should be "rùn" with the accent, because that would translate to you are my motive. I had a flick through my Gaelic dictionary and can confirm that "run" without an accent did not appear as a word so this makes me more certain. For the second line, "nighean" can mean daughter, but it can also mean girl/lass and given the romantic context I'm leaning towards the latter of "girl" and that it's being used in the same way some people call someone "my girl" in a relationship.
The "il o ho ro" part is a bit like "woah oh/la la/hey!" in that it's there for the sound and not meaning.
    And so the translation reads:
*il o ho ro, you're my motive*
*il o ho ro , you're my girl*

    • @hannahmetcalfemetcalfe9707

It’s often used with a wider meaning than that as joy, love, meaning. There’s a song called mo run geal og - my fair young love

2 different singers. The singer you’re hearing on this song is Robert Robertson and he sings in a band called tide lines now. Very sad they never added this version to Spotify

I believe the first like should be rùn with the accent, because that would translate to you are my secret/motive. For the second line, nighean can mean daughter, but in this context I believe it means "girl" in the same way some people call someone "my girl/lass" in a relationship.
"Il o ho ro" is a bit like "woah oh/la la/hey!" in that it's there for the sound and not meaning. And so:

I have an question. I first heard this song through this video many years ago. When I recently looked it up on Apple Music, it sounds like an entirely different singer. Did the band change singers or did he decide to sing it with a very different sound?
