I felt in love with this song so badly. It makes me miss something I never met. I’m from Switzerland and found it by accident on UA-cam and I listen to it nearly every time in the car. I started to watch documentaries about Scotland and now I want to travel to this beautiful country and learn more about its culture after university. All because of this song.😍
Scotland is certainly worth a first visit (when it‘s safe and sensible to travel again, at least). And in most cases, „the first visit“ will not be the only visit you‘ll make! We will return there when luck, health and travel conditions allow it…
@@stevenfairlie3407 In most cases, while I like the sentiment, that is unlikely - unless you move there directly with a contract ;-). But yes, we will go there again, time (and money, and regulations, ...) permitting!
After watching rubbish on the other channels at Hogmaney, I turned over to Alba and could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. A real Scottish ceilidh, it was fantastic; great singers and musicians but I was really impressed with Skipinnish who I have never heard before. What a great band, I can't wait to get their records (age thing).
I've been a Runrig fan for 30 years and have just discovered Skipinnish. Fabulous music and love the videos. Cheers from an Aussie with Scottish heritage.
Come to Scotland! You'll be at hame; it's everyone's hame; we'll make you feel at hame! This is the first time I've heard Skipinnish and I've been Scottish all my years. I came across it because I was listening to Alistair McDonald tunes. I'm updating my playlist tomorrow
Skipinnish are amazing. Every song gets into my blood. I can't stop listening to them. No one comes anywhere near them for quality. Vocals, instrumentals and video clips are beyond belief!!!!❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺
This song reminds me of my teenage years growing up on Isle of Bute. We had beachpartys every summer and would take my burd out on the motorbike with tent and enjoy freedom all weekend. Now im 48 and living on mainland i wish i could go back to those days. Still got the motorbike and im refusing to act old lol.
love how many of your songs are about Tir Na Nog. I absolutely love the story of Oisin and this song along with land Below the Waves do the old tale justice - Love it
i'm listening to this song for a school assignment but little do my teachers know that i will now be listening to this on repeat for the rest of the day edit: i mean the rest of the week, i can't stop
Beautiful powerful music, extremely uplifting. I have for many years had a great respect for the Scots as a tough fighting people with a hard history and it brings to light the old biblical adage "out of the strong came forth sweetness". Fantastic group.
If I have been feeling a bit down this last 9 months, I watch and listen to this, suddenly everything is brighter and better. Love this song, its kept my sprit alive during some dark days recently. I don`t need the drink or pills from the doctor. A Skipinnish prescription works every time, live 3 miles from Bught Park, I will be there in July, love you guys.
Summer time long years ago I always will remember Just a boy who didnt knowThat those days would never die Oh I recall the island girl Her heart was still unbroken And still i hear the pipers skerral In the summer island sky Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun Bluest eyes theres ever been Like sunshine on the ocean Sweetest smile i've ever seen And her black (?) hair And the golden Hebrides We danced until the morning And felt the warm southern breeze In the summer island air Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun I've walked this road for many years And wisdoms often failed me Looking back now through the tears Those days will never die Oh and when we're old and grey Our hearts too often broken We'll see again those summer days And the summer island air Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun Will ye dance and return to the island of the young Will ye dance untill the dawn until the rising of the sun 2 Favoritess Skipinnish
seonaid morrison you could say how they were rumoured to have 'known' some of the island girls leading to them having armada black hair. But its not necessary lol
Sorry Guys I have just discovered you, WOW as a true Scotsman myself, well with a name like Craig Alexander McIntosh you don't get much more Scottish than that, I am so proud of what you are achieving, you truly capture the spirit of being Scottish.
skippinish...fantastic group! my daughter introduced me to them at music at the marr..brill then seen them in glasgow for my 50th ..fantastic lads are genuiene down to earth ...x
I love this song and its visualisation. Endless love and a modern interpretation of old legends (call it Styx, Swan of Tuonela or whatever is your culture). Thank you
Takes me back to my younger years on the beautiful Isle of Arran. Good times and so many brilliant memories. Going back next weekend to visit my mother and hopefully see some old friends
Anyone else get reminded of a certain time from this song? My best memory... It was summer 2016, I got myself a summer job at Loch Earn in a caravan site. Incredible sights in the second half of the journey from Glasgow to the loch near Comrie. Anyway, my mate Mark and I were up staying in the caravan since work was too far for daily travel. The signal for mobile or internet was rather non-existent, so one warm evening we decided to head to the Co-op in Crieff to stock up on food and in the meantime get a phone signal. The only radio frequency that the car picked up was BBC Gaelic. So, we heard a bit of this song, without thinking about it we skipped looking for another radio station. Not a moment later, when our tired brains processed the information, we looked at each other and went 'turn aht fuckin back oan, aht sounded bangin!'. Haha! We even spent a half an hour trying to find out the title of the song to get it downloaded, with success we played it over and over having beers and rejoicing in memories. And from there we discovered Skipinnish, and thus have another favourite artist.
Me and my Bro fell in love with GBS after hearing this song. We went to Toronto to see them.. Didn’t realise it was a cover…😮 We then travelled from Aberdeenshire to the Real Deal for the 30th anniversary (think we met folks in the Pineapple pub….?) Anyway, as the saying goes, “Oysterband are the Best Band you’ve never heard of…) Class act lads (and June), may yer lums always reek…! ❤
Is amazing how few songs can go straight deep in your soul, like they were a message from the past. @Skipinnish 's THE ISLAND is surely one of them. Wonderful song!
I'm moving to England and this song will make me think of the school I went to in uist thanks to the staff and teachers in sgoil lionacleit and cnes education and children's department benbecula
Wow - just wow. This music is like a combination of the best of Altan and Horslips -- if they had been in Scotland instead of Ireland. Tá sibh go h-An-Mhaith!

The first time I watched this, I couldn't finish watching it for crying. Beautiful song.
Sarah Coleman I cried too because it’s my BFFs favourite song and she died she was only nine 😭❤️😭❤️😭
The most brilliant lyrics I have heard in years. First seen on Alba Hogmanay show 2015/16. Robert Robertson has the most fantastic voice.
Such a great tune and wonderful lyrics - as an ex-pat Scot and granddad myself it has truly brought tears to my eyes. Skipinnish = brilliant!
Crying over how proud to be scottish this makes me

I would say so, I'm a massive Runrig fan, was at the final mile, feel like these guys could be the future Runrig.
Missed your singing at Cowal games this year with Skipinish.
