Robert Robertson's voice is absolutely spine-tingling! Such a clear and strong tone, especially for a then 19-year-old!
Three of our family generations love this band and their music. We are sad that Robert has decided to explore
new avenues, however thanks for the great memories and the last two BBC Alba shows at New Year. A great celebration of scottish culture.
I am Breton man (from Bretagne near Carnac) and this song hits me hard although it has nothing to do with Scotland but I got the meaning
Powerful lyrics guys, truly inspiring.
I've lived on Skye for 10 years or so and have good friends and met and know many wonderful folk their.. I'm in India at the moment for 4 months and play this song often don't know why but it just lifts me.. thanks for great music guys
You guys are superb. This song is fantastic, lyrics, voice, music, all of it.
Bring to me the morning
And the dawning of the day
Speed up the sun and forward turn
The clocks that slow our way
Bring down the moon and shining stars
And hold the night time long
Wake up the larks and bittern, start
To sing tomorrow's song
Get the ferry, set for sea
As fast as can be done
Let go the ropes and free our hopes
Of western skies to come
The rising sun to starboard
As the boat leaves Oban Bay
Our homeland dreams return in streams
And fill the dawning day
For I want to go
Where the great Atlantic roars
From the cliffs of Kennavara
To majestic Skerryvore
And breathe again the air
My island body craves
And feel again the freedom
Of the land below the waves
Like barley in the wind
We've been scattered far and thin
From the cruelty of the Clearance
To the pressures we live in
No matter where we roam
Over land or over foam
The island pulls the children
Of the barley to come home
See Ben Hynish and Ben Hough
And the early morning glow
Then houses rising from the sea
As land begins to show
You know you're homeward bound
Steaming by the Gunna Sound
With passion then you stand again
Upon your island ground
For I want to go
Where the great Atlantic roars
From the cliffs of Kennavara
To majestic Skerryvore
And breathe again the air
My island body craves
And feel again the freedom
Of the land below the waves
The island of Tiree
And its land and soil and sea
Goes through the bone like fire and stone
And who you're born to be
On the world's fickle face
Unyielding anchors to a place
The guiding star of who you are
Your people and your race
Stand on Kennavay
Or the shores of Hudson Bay
The wilds of Argentina
Or New Zealand's earth and clay
Our seeds are growing wide
But the roots of island pride
Will bring us all together
On the flooding of the tide
And I want to go
Where the great Atlantic roars
From the cliffs of Kennavara
To majestic Skerryvore
And breathe again the air
My island body craves
And feel again the freedom
Of the land below the waves
For I want to go
Where the great Atlantic roars
From the cliffs of Kennavara
To majestic Skerryvore
And breathe again the air
My island body craves
And feel again the freedom
Of the land below the waves
I'm obsessed with this song

Absolutely fantastic lyrics and song!
Brilliant ... lyrics & tempo... thanks from the puddle lined streets of Lancashire...
Anyone else here from “Wee Lass Reacts”? She just recommended this as a great sea shanty!

Best band
Ever
this is one of my favourite bands I'm upset that the lead singer is leaving my mum and dad was nice and took a picture and chatted with him I makes me feel confident there songs I love them :-]
Nature Lover Vlogs Norrie's a good replacement, ya just have to get used the that Lewis Blàs
Just great
Who is still here?
They are amazing. I'm only 12 and I'm obsessed all my friends hate Skippinish
Great band, we were on a family holiday on Skye 2 years ago and their CD "Atlantic Roar" was on all the time. My sons were 9 and 13 at the time, they liked then and still like it now. It's good to have individual taste and not be the same as everyone else.
You will learn in life don't follow others like sheep. Follow your own dreams - a superb group - they don't know what they are missing!
Kenovay!
Aaaaaaallaba!
98% of Scott’s are have a pride for their country ( I’m one of them )
And the other 2% can go rot in a hole with the English. Cheers from a Scots-Irish brother who has never seen the homelands.
why is it that most Scottish songs require you to know about Scotland's geography?
Duh!!! If not, they could be songs about anywhere - be inspired to look these places up and maybe even come visit them in person. Then you may understand why Scottish songs are about Scotland. We have a beautiful country that inspires beautiful songs!! :)
Caledonia.
Scots Wha Hae.
My Love is Like a Red Red Rose.
Sunshine On Leith.
The Bonny Lass O Fyvie O.
Mingulay Boat Song.
Skye Boat Song.
McBoaty McBoatFace Song.
Ok, you have a point.
Cruel and unusual geography is Scotland's thing - it's *all* fucking geography.
who are those 4 ppl that Dislike? lol
Angus Smith
I'm half English (Southern, near London, too), but I'd never thumb down such a rousing, moving song.
I'd suggest that those thumbs downers are golems; they have no soul!
Prefer Robert's voice for most of the songs
Robert Robertson was a far better lead singer for all the songs.
I'm not from the Hebrides, even less from Tiree, for god's sake I'm not even from Scotland, so why does this song hit me so hard in the feels ?! Can't stop listening to it
Same for me...
And I am just French.
It's got a lovely fusion of what like a Scottish/Irish sea shanty that's what I feel 🤔
Bruh same
