  • In part 4 of our 8 Limbs of Yoga series, we explore Pranayama, the breath control practice of yoga.
Prana translates to life force and there are many different pranayama practices that all have different purposes. By controlling our breath, we're able to connect body and mind, achieve meditative states, and get one step closer to bliss.
In this practice, we explore wave breath, ujjayi, alternate nostril, and kapalabhati.

I loved it, & after 10ms of it have started I practiced with CLOSED EYES & been COVERED with a b & I band.
I followed your instructions. I was #FOCUSED. I laugh a little. I was ALMOST PERFECT bkz "of some "wind" of the "FOREST" I was in my crescent launch" (i dont know why but i was in a very green forest with my dog while my eyes were closed) so, í was GOOD ENOUGH.
    Thank u so much u r AMAZING,

I think this was a little too calming for morning practice ;). I have a question - are there combination breaths? I was wondering specifically about alternate nostril breathing while the throat is constricted as in ujia. I caught myself doing this at one point and wondered whether there is a practice like that and what its purpose would be. Thanks!

Hi Suzanne! Yes this was a calm one! Great question, I find myself doing the same, because I love and practice ujjayi so much. I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to do both at the same time. The constricted throat helps warm the breath (and body) and regulate your breathing, so if your body is cold and you find it helps to add it in when you're and doing alternate nostril I think it's totally fine. Traditionally alternate nostril is practiced without the throat constriction, since it's a more balancing and cooling pranayama practice. But since it's your yoga practice, do what works for you!! Have a beautiful weekend.
