@@thewhyzer there is a game on quest called dead hook or something like that that you can rip open demons and im pretty sure its heavily inspired by doom
There is no official support for Oculus/Meta HMDs on any Bethesda VR games because of the lawsuit that happened between Oculus and ZeniMax (Bethesda's parent company). They accused John Carmack of stealing code and that he took it over to Oculus . It was simple spite not to support the most used HMDs.
There is a mod to add smooth turning. It bypasses what they tried to block us from. It makes the game so much more enjoyable. I’m not saying it’s the best game in the world, but it did have its merits.
There was ONE possible reedeming quality that made a good point of making doom into a vr game. If for glory kills you had to grab a demon by the sides of its head and manually split it apart, itd be a feeling like nothing else. Instead, they removed the main selling point of the game in favor of "telefrag to regain health"
A Doom 3 remaster comes to mind. Slow movement, immersive environment, jumpscares, dark creepy corridors... if Doom 3 got the Alyx treatment it could be amazing for people that can play VR games. They don't make anything that fits over my beak.
I mean there's already a full motion controlled Doom 3 mod that you can sideload onto the Quest, as well as another doom 3 pcvr mod for the BFG edition
Damn, right at the end of the video, you nailed what I was gonna bring up. There's already solid foundation for a great, creepy, slow paced VR game in the scrapped Doom 4. Movement speed and combat being slowed would work perfectly for the slower pace it looks like VR requires. Just add more of the creepy atmosphere from Doom 3 and play as a regular survivor on Earth.
I agree. After you add the smooth turn mod, it is a great game. Using the teleport function to enable slow mo and strategizing what demons to blast before teleporting out of danger is really fun. I own all of the greatest VR games on my PC and I still find myself coming back to this one occasionally. It’s definitely overhated.
I just wish they found a way to adapt glory kills. Instead of telefraging enemies it should slow time around you and let you beat them to a pulp or rip em apart ya know.
@@TheBeansprout Nah, something more like Batman: Arkham Shadow's combat would do better. obviously, though, most of your attacks would be coming from your arsenal. But I think if you made glory kills work similarly to how that game handles "executions, it would work extremely well. I also think that a fast paced Doom game would work tremendously well. It just needs the right dev team behind it
Shame, it sounds cool. Have you heard of Compound Fracture? A PS1 style FPS game featuring dinosaurs, kind of like a first person Dino Crisis. There’s no release date, so I hope it gets one soon. Good video as always Beansprout!
I played on PSVR1 and it's ok there but it still has it's problems even if it doesn't crash, for starters I wanted to play the mainline games in VR, not a spinoff, so short campaign, dissappointing, second they didn't add glory kills, just telefragging, third I now with the Quest 2 can play classic DOOM 1, 2, expansions, and DOOM 64 and DOOM 3 and expansions in VR via some mods and QuestZDOOM, heck I can play DOOM mods in VR too, and as for DOOM 2016 and DOOM ETERNAL plus expansions I can get VR mods like VorpX or use my RTX program's 3D function, so I can play all the DOOM games in VR, plus someone's porting the DOOM RPGs and Wolfenstein RPGs so they may get GZDOOM ports and then VR compatible, we haven't figured out the lost levels campaign of DOOM 64 yet but I'm sure we can get them VR one day, heck all of Duke Nukem 3D plus expansions and Blood plus expansions and Shadow Warrior plus expansions and even Quake 1, 2, and 3 I can play via VR even so in the end, there's ways to play DOOM and other retro FPS games in VR, DOOM VFR I'll still play as part of the series just like DOOM 3 and expansions but it still is a disappointment like DOOM 3 and expansions
The one thing that actually does kind of make me curious though and me kind of bringing up lore the player character isn't really the Doom Slayer so the puzzle stuff is mainly there for the character just wanted to bring that up in case for those who are wondering about the story
Yeah it is early VR so some sacrifices had to be made hell I'm pretty sure they didn't even have to make the game at all and the only thing I really got to mention is that you're kind of following behind the the Doom Slayer but hey it's at least something

1:24 Of course Half life Alyx was the better vr game, it was built from the ground up for vr. While all the half life games are shooters first, they're more know for there extremely innovative technological feats, puzzles, ect. Not nessisarily a 1:1 comparison, it makes way more sense for half-life to be in vr, ZeniMax is fucking dumb as hell for trying to port doom at the moment.

Have you tried DOOM 3 VR? It's genuinely one of the greatest VR experiences out there. Up there with even Half Life Alyx.
imagine if were able to rip imps arms off and beat them with it or take a hell knight corpse and use it as a shield of blocking projectiles

ultrakill vr works surprisingly well. if you’re immune to motion sickness, obviously

better than using the face buttons (which are aligned in a square not a diamond mind you) to move on the psvr version 💀

Honestly I should have spoke about the elements I liked too, because not all of it is bad
DOOM Virtual Fuckin' Reality
Serious Sam VR surprisingly works well.

Half-Life Alyx didn't "adapt a 90s FPS game into the medium of VR", it adapted a 200s FPS game into the medium of VR.
I was talking about half life in general
@TheBeansprout Alyx is a follow up to Half Life 2 & it's episodes, not to the original. Just like Doom VFR is based on Doom 2016, not Doom 1993.
