Fliimed at the original Mesa high which tragically was burned down due to chemical fire 🔥 in science lab in 1967 if the structure still stood it would be the oldest high school in the state of Arizona to date. Mesa Hjgh Jackrabbit is a united community very rich in tradition alot of the alumni just found out about this movie being filmed on location in 1960. Nice to have a memory of the Old Main as they referred to the school in those days...Carry On Mesa !!

3:40 , reminds me of when my Sister was a Senior and her friends wanted her to go partying, she was talking on the phone to her friend and asked our Mother if she could go, and Mom said no, because she didn't know who any of the Boys were, then my Sister says to her friend on the phone, "I swear my mother thinks I'm a Slut!!"
My Mother was shocked, and I was rolling on the floor laughing.

@11:06, you see a glimpse of 'Kenneth Preston' from The Defenders playing a teacher and saying a few lines! Definitely him! (great series, hope they all come out on dvd, not just the First Season!)

People have some sort of fond memory connected to this film. That's fine, we all have our weaknesses. Still... This movie sucked when it came out. Sucked a decade after it came out. And STILL Sucks today!

Squares vs Rebels before the pill, with sympathy to both sides and an unintentionally patronizing earnestness that is as charming as stultifying as the shallow middle class suburban culture it depicts must have been. A fascinating artifact and more entertaining than I expected. It’s worth seeing just for the appealing lead performance by a 29 year-old William Shatner, a few years before his Star Trek role.

    • @fleurmartin

Fot me, its worth seeing for Patty MacCormack and Billy Gray. Not a fan of Shatner before or after Trek. He has pretty eyes though

Why are musical scores In most of these early youth movies completely different from the music of their time.
“Beat Generation” is plastered all over the wall Yet the music they are dancing to is way too dated for the time!

Copyright issues, it’s cheaper to use knock-off music you commission and own.

All movies played what the studios thought sounded like rrock n roll. Not just for the record rights but so parents didn't complain about the "nasty" music. And believe me, they had some horrifying names for simple rock n roll.

In 1960s Houston, it would've been Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and Ernest Tubb.

My teens were 10 years after The Explosive Generation but still a lot like this. In 1970s Houston, kids were starting to talk and act like hippies. The 1950s goody-two-shoes dress was transitioning into today's casual dress, and not without a lot of fights. We had racial tension in our mix too. In 1972, the arrest of a student for possession of a joint blew up into a demonstration and then lockdown of my high school, and we got to see the lies of the police, school, media, and fellow students in all their glory. Mild in terms of unrest, but it shaped me.
The Explosive Generation is forward looking, optimistic, and does a good job explaining to angry, scared parents why kids were pushing out of their strait jackets.

Thank you. I often have wondered what it was like lto have society leave the " goody two shoes" clothes and music of the 50s and go into the dress and music that resembles what we know today.

Really good movie and despite the music it represented the era very well. Much better than The Graduate.
