I came here for Curd Jürgens but Merle Oberon’s beauty surprised me, amazing, I didn’t know her and her similarity with Audrey Hepburn. Thank you for uploading and the virtual, enchanting trip to Mexico, the magic, the sun, the sea…and such attractive men.

Ugly duckling movie turned into a white swan. The rape scene was so realistic and terrifying. Merle Oberon deserved an Oscar for her acting. Steve Cochran's good guy was so opposite his character in The Best Years of Our Lives.

Anglo-Indian actress Merle Oberon's 12-year old Indian mother was raped. Hence, Merle's grandmother raised her as her own. Her first husband, Alexander Korda made her an actress; working with Olivier in "Wuthering Heights" made her a star. After marriage to celebrated DP Lucien Ballard, she married Italian industrialist, Bruno Pagliai. His womanizing led to divorce & her remarriage to Dutch actor, Robert Wolders, who starred on comedy western TV show, "Laredo" as well as appearing on episodic TV shows. Her lifelong fear was the possible discovery of her Indian background & her mother's rape which would result in discrimination in the UK & in the film industry.
Steve Cochran's career on stage & screen made his acting choices as interesting as his private life. "White Heat" opposite Cagney launched his career, but "The Damnef Don't Cry" with J. Crawford launched his career as a leading man. "Highway 301" & "Storm Warning" are remarkable for his portrayals of two different types of villains. However, "Tomorrow is Another Day" is a unique noir; he was also in the dramatic & commercial success, "The Best Years of Our Lives." Appearing in Antonioni's "Il Grido" made him an international favorite. Sam Peckinpah hired him for his debut TV feature, "The Deadly Companions." In his short life and even shorter career, Cochran made an indelible cinematic impression: his portrayals of unsavory or less than ethical characters show more than a hint of his real bad-boy magnetism which reaches fever pitch in his most acclaimed roles. Watching him on screen is always a treat because his on-screen personna blinds us to the other actors in the shot.

The male cast in this one each got a fabulous set of silk suits - or at least one per customer which they kept switching up as between coat and pants - main male character's baby blue suit in opening scenes particularly notable, you'll see those pants again and again, lol - btw, I think this flick is somehow about incest but they just keeping circling that innuendo and never zero-ing in on it, so the whole thing somehow doesn't make any sense - but, there's always the gorgeous silk suits! lol

Some of the comments, with all due respect, are inadvertently mistaken about the identity of the man who forced himself on Merle Oberon's character. It was a previous lover and her half-brother played by Curt Jurgen, set her up to be taken advantage of by that other man. So, no, this was not that kind of movie. Some people really need to get a notebook to track the different characters that are portrayed in this film.

From what I have read about Ms Oberon her private life was similar to the events in this movie . Continental Robert Wolders had an ear for accents for he married Oberon and was the boyfriend of Audrey Hepburn in their latter years . They sure do sound similar . Also young Marlon Brando was married to Anna Kashfi who seemed to have a similar background to Oberon . Perhaps Brando developed his taste for such women when he co starred in the movie with Oberon .

@@writeract2 For those reading the comments ---such women refered to dark featured women. In the bios I have read on Marlon Brando they seemed to infer that because Brando's mother was a blonde he seemed to seek women who anything but fair and blonde . At any rate besides his two sisters whom he was very close he did not have many normal relationships . Not with his mother or father . and not with his friend from childhood Wally Cox .

I love these old movies and the white dress on the hostess is exquisite BUT I cannot figure out what the necklace is. I think diamonds and some dark stone but I actually think it would have been prettier if it were all diamonds or a light Stone like aquamarine with diamonds. Does anyone know what the stone is supposed to be?🤔 I'm sure it's really😂 glass as they used costume jewelry in films but it's supposed to be real of course.

@antoinettebilocca9868 I read it started because of a heart murmur which developed into pulmonary edema causing fluid to enter his lungs, and also morphed into an infection while he was visiting Guatemala or thereabouts. A very great loss for his family, friends and the film industry. Too bad he portrayed a lot of villainous roles because this film, is a stand out one for me, because he was not afraid to show his humanity and compassion toward the woman he fell in love with.
