The few minutes from 1:06:29 onward are a masterclass in screenwriting. Talkies back then, and for a long time after, were absolutely stuffed with stilted, proper dialogue that in no way represented how the everyman spoke. But that entire conversation is compelling and free of stilted bullshit. Not only that, but it acts as a natural builder of chemistry between the leads. It's a scene that could've been out of a movie made 40 years later, save for the odd archaic expression or perspective, and it's effortlessly entertaining. Hitchcock's appreciation for and ability to identify a good screenplay is a massive reason why he soared as highly as he did. Bravo to everyone involved

What a beautiful old classic gem of a movie with Donat and Madeleine Carroll. A beautiful Hitchcock movie done gracefully that is funny as well as thrilling with decency, dignity and respect in sharp contrast with the movies nowadays that are full of abhorrent violence, abominable sex scenes and with no real values. Thank you again for uploading these old gems. May Our Lord and God Jesus Christ Bless you and all of us ❤❤❤❤
This is a very clever spy movie- leave it to Hitchcock to find a good one, plus Donat and Carroll. Long before the world had spies everywhere during WWII, this one drew on imagination. You'd think the others made about WWII would be as good, especially with tons of true stories, but most were not, IMO. Love these oldies that make you THINK! TY- great post and HD.
Friendly discussion with friend who insisted the Coens are, in tandem, the best director. Type in the filmography of Alfred Hitchcock and count them. The brothers have a ways to go. 1935: incredible! Everyone else started a "step" behind, from his silents to Frenzy, you'll run out of fingers and toes.
Thank you so much for this colourised version of this Hitchcock classic! The original still delights audiences as it did back in 1935. Love the cameo from Miles Malleson at the end 😂

He was also nominated the year before for his portrayal of a poor country doctor who eventually makes good and begins to abandon his moral conscience in “The Citadel”. Where's his cameo?
It's like a dream comes true we use to talk about putting color into the black and white film but that was 50years ago it is my 3rd film from this channel since thanks again for this beautiful time❤
I got a cheap old film colorizer program for around 60 pounds ,it's called Pixbim and it's dead simple to use.
...Good movies are like magic..!!
So many small, humanizing brushstrokes in this terrific film - from the very beginning.
One of my favorites was the camera lingering on Margaret, the grumpy farmer's wife, after she helps Hannay escape.
Rest in paradise ✨️ to Hitch and these stellar players ~ especially Robert Donat.
Me too, poor Margaret, leave him now, move to Glasgow, Liverpool, or Cornwall, but leave.
I adore hitchcocks films..this film although old exels in creating high standard plot and best direction which is hitchcocks speciality .
heureuse de revoir ce chef d'œuvre colorisé ! un cocktail de tous les futurs films d'Hitchcock , humour, suspens jusqu'au bout ! merci à Cult Cinema Classics.
... de rien...
@@danielgiraud1118...OUI. OUI. !!!
Merci mon petit Michel Maccaroni@@michaelcelani8325
En noir et blanc ou recoloriser, le suspense est toujours de mise avec A. Hitchcock !
May Our Lord and God Jesus Christ Bless you and all of us ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the colorized version. Much appreciated.
I Love Alfred Hitchcock movies. This is another good one. Thanks for sharing.
Hitchcok siempre está brillante ,39 escalones le he visto muchas veces,no es de las más populares pero está muy bien
What a great movie! Thanks for posting!
The man was a genius. How old was Alfred Hitchcock when he made this? He had a gift.
Hitchcock was 36 years old when this film was made as he was born in 1899.
You can see hitchcock make his cameo at 6.59
Thank you so much for this colourised version of this Hitchcock classic! The original still delights audiences as it did back in 1935. Love the cameo from Miles Malleson at the end 😂
i thought i have watched all the best ones from Alfred Hitchcock , but this movie by him is so cool. Really good.
It bears little resemblance to John Buchan's wonderful novel, but it's a cracking good film and still a thrilling watch. Oh, the Flying Scotsman!!
It is in my top ten; chosen because of how they changed my life.
I love Robert and Madeleine. they played naturally in this film, so I wanted them to perform together again 🙂
Fantastischer Film, so reich an kleinen aber genialen Einfällen!
Die Schauspieler absolut überzeugend, vor allem das Pärchen.
Und, so hoffe ich, mit ein paar echten Bildern aus Schottland!
And Hitler was beginning to plan the mayhem in Europe at that very moment.
The final scene with the death of Mr. Memory and the long line of chorus girls behind him is one of the most beautiful shots in early Hitchcock.
I prefer black and white. But I enjoyed this film! I can see how influential it was to the spy genre going forward. Some serious "bourne" vibes.
Un très bon film. J'ai beaucoup apprécié. Et Hitchock m'a toujours plu.
Thanks for the colorized version
Fantastic film. Another world.
A classic Hitchcock film
The era with the Best movies and the best clothes!! I mean, look at that coat at 8:16 The protagonist Robert Donat, is also the The Count of Monte Cristo! Another brilliant must see movie! What a talented actor!!! I can't get enough of these movies!!!
Robert Donat also played Mr Chips in the unforgettable “Goodbye Mr Chips”.
I wonder how these people would think of the world that we've made😢🧐✌️🙏🇬🇧💯
HITCHCOCK son of a green grosser, so was
Maggie Thatcher 🆘🎬
@@sciagurrato1831He won the Best Actor Oscar for that performance against some very stiff competition in 1939:
Clark Gable in “Gone With The Wind, James Stewart in “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington”, Laurence Olivier in “Wuthering Heights”, and Mickey Rooney in “Babes In Arms”.
@@MsAppassionata very good point! All these actors are legends with Donat being the least remembered.
@@sciagurrato1831 Yes it really is a shame. He was also nominated the year before for his portrayal of a poor country doctor who eventually makes good and begins to abandon his moral conscience in “The Citadel”. Another brilliant performance of his, that is a personal favorite of mine, was as a barrister in “The Winslow Boy” (1948 version). He was a wonderful actor who was hampered by ill health and crippling self doubt (I have no idea why).
The subtitles in this are very amusing. This version of The 39 Steps grows on you, & even better in colour. Many thanks for the upload 😀.
Love the Humorous situations for the male lead !! 😳😳🙄🙄😆😆😆🤣🤣
Better than ever in color. Very sophisticated for an early Hitchcock.
A lot of wit in this movie. 51:10 "Mr McCrocodile..." Hitchcock was a master.
Classic cinematography , especially panning the camera through the car back window and then the scene of the road to Inveraray !
... classic cinematography until somebody slathered ugly digital color goop all over it.
@@yohei72 yes! I totally agree.
Brilliant in every way. Love the colourisation although it doesn't do the loaf of bread any favours at 12:36 😄
I love all the 39 steps films, glad this one has been colourized. I dont suppose you have "While I live" do you and "The Warsaw Concerto" and others like it, have been wanting to see While I live for decades.
I've watched this about four times now, great stuff. Hitchcock is very near the beginning outside the theatre
This movie and Lady Vanishes make a great double feature
Best double feature in the history of cinema
Been looking this movie up after reading the thrilling novel last year...still comparing notes...just watched the 1959 one.
Excelente película. Gracias por la oportunidad de ponerla a disposición del pueblo. 👌
I'm crazy about Donat, coupled with Hitchcock it doesn't get any better. Thank you !
Merci beaucoup pour ce film que j'ai eu plaisir à revoir. Un film intemporel. Un voyage dans un autre temps. Merci encore 🤩
Muchas gracias por subir esta película, me ha encantado.
watching with German subs to learn some German...
Funny how Carroll didn't necessarily look all that attractive on the train or even at the political rally, but chained to Donat out on the Moors, she's got it goin' on!
Alfred Hitchcock my local hero Lived in Leytonstone London E11 Murals to his films in subway on Central Line Subway
One of the Greatest movie of all time 🎥🎬
Classic Hitchcock film bar none, however I always liked the black and white version.
A rarely seen Classic Alfred Hitchcock movie, excellent and top quality as his works always are! Thanks for posting.
Much obliged for this video.
Brilliant film, such amazing actors and actresses. I’m in awe of Richard Donet. First time I’ve watched a film with him in.
The professors wife was in a film I watched yesterday. The Case of the Frightened Lady ( 1940 ). Another good film.
I dont know if I should watch this, my all-time favourite film - IN COLOUR ??!!.. I'll come back later ........
@MegaDeansy Give it a try! A lot of people here in the CCC community talk about how amazing it is to see their favorite films in color, they pick up on plenty on new things.
Just for info, in case you come across another colorized film that you aren't 100% sure if you want to watch in color, check the description box. You'll find the link to the B&W version 😉👍
Let us know if you tried out a few minutes of this one in color! Curious to know your thoughts/feelings and what the novelty brings you!!
I keep coming back to the film & it's always "fresh" as the first time:
Basically it's about a boy & girl ....
A great British classic.
Bellissimo film, Hitchcock non si smentisce mai!❤❤❤
Thank you for posting this!! It's one of my all time favorite films!
Mi película favorita...y la Música preciosa...una pena, perdí el L P.
Clear dialog, a true plot with little extraneous matter.
Great movie, however could you possible turn the volume up on your end. Thank you ...
Wikipedia notes are right: Hitchcock appears at 6:59 walking in front of the bus Hanney and "Ms Smith" catch. From memory, in North by North West he gets baulked in catching a taxi at Fifth in front of the UN offices just after the intro overture credits.
..Hitch is trying to get on a public
bus, but the driver slams the door
on him so he is left on the sidewalk
in despair. No cab involved.
I hold the world's record of seeing
North× Northwest"....over 850 times. !
