As a rock singer myself I know that one's voice is a bit different day to day. Some days I sing as effortlessly as a songbird. Other days I have a stuffed nose, sore throat, hangover, tired, or just don't sound right for some unexplained reason. Having watched many versions of this great song I would have to say this is Brett's most strained vocal performance. He sounded hoarse from the first few lines, and subsequently omitted some words, sang some lines at a lower pitch, and lower volume here and there. That being said, this might be his most impressive performance, from my perspective. He really fought to deliver the performance this song deserves. It seemed he was almost in pain at times, but his love of music, and of his fans pushed him beyond his limits that day. Bravo Brett.
Yup. The voice is a tricky thing. Sometimes it does what it wants to do regardless of what you want it to do, and either way, the show must go on. I was cringing, but he pulled through it.
i'm a singer myself, singer harmonica player, everything you said is right on, well said friend,,,,this song to me is one of my favoritest songs in the world since forever, i read here and there about this singer struggling and it always pains me
He's really giving everything he has to us. Leaving it all on that stage. I feel like we're watching some sort of public sacrifice of which we're not fully deserving.
I’m shocked Fuel/Brett aren’t talked about more often, he has my absolute favorite voice of the genre. Love that he just goes hard every performance- long term probably a bad idea, but there’s so much emotion that is direly missing from todays awful performers.
That's what was great about fuel. Especially Sunburn and Something Like Human. It's has a classic rock element to it. Then Brett's voice is just flat out raw.
I saw him live recently and his voice was spot on. Superb performance. If he sounded strained on some live videos I think he was just pushed too hard a needed a rest.
WHY IN 2018 CANT I FIND A MAN WHO HAS THIS TYPE OF LOOK/STYLE?! I find it SO attractive and literally no man dresses or wears their hair like this anymore and it sucks.
Because this generation of men sucks 90's gens of rockers were cool calm and attractive unlike today's rappers with lots of shinyfake bling bling on their bodies
Man I love this band but I can’t watch these after learning how to sing and knowing he’s just ripping his vocal cords apart in all these old live videos.
There's a number of factors. He had nasal surgery due to a collision on stage back in the early 2000s, he's much older now and doesn't have the youthful chops, and he's giving it his all onstage singing with such raw emotion and rasp and his vocal cords are worn out.
@@stroyer2103 it still sounds good I've heard a couple of his more recent live performances he can do about 70 to 75% of the notes like you can hear the voice but there's some notes that he just can't hit but it still sounds good he finds a way to make it still enjoyable with his voice limitations. This song still hits hard even today

Well said brother!!!!!
I love the grit in his voice and the fuckin p90s the Guitarrist usually punishes his Marshall with. That prs doesn’t sound bad either.
Well said. May have taken a toll on him later down the road. I haven't heard an "effortless" or even really Good performance out of him in years. Sad.

His passion and voice are simply golden

This statement! Perfect I feel that too!
When you know the meaning behind this song, you realise how powerful and emotional it is.
Icarus who flew too close to the sun...a moment of greatness that few know.
Raw passion every performance as if it's his first time everytime ❤
I love his raspy voice..it’s so amazing..great live performance ✌🏽
Fuel just rocks

God bless Scott Scanlon - incred musician & artist. TN knows well your great talent & kind heart my friend
love his voice
for some reason, i like the chorus better than the original
One of the best lead men of all time.
Don't like the weak, you never even tried... That's the second coolest part of the song.. Beside the song.
This song is so sad & haunting...😢
pure raw and powerful :)

Lol. Even HE doesn't dress or wear his hair like this anymore.
But, I know what you mean.
I'm with Bo of you on this one 👍
90s were awesome and i had the luck to be a teenager during...blessed
A mullet and a t-shirt?

Carl may have gone through a number of lead singers for fuel but none of them will hold a candle to Brett scallions
Man I love this band but I can’t watch these after learning how to sing and knowing he’s just ripping his vocal cords apart in all these old live videos.
howd they get billy corgan to join the band?
2003
Nice video quality. What is this, 60p?
He blew out his voice correct? From what I've heard he can't hit a lot of that original note from his original according

@@dscwac396 agreed. He still goes out there and performs extremely well.
@@stroyer2103 yeah I'd see him still to this day his overall energy and performance is good
that lead singers voice isnt doing so well in this movie rn. msut have a cold or something!
Horrendous video quality. I couldn't even focus on the performance. Wow, I gotta find a better version and upload it myself.
did you ever do it
Nickelback sounded like shit on this show too due to being strung out.
