- Solo Winter Wild Camp in the Scottish Highlands with lots of wind and snow. Gale force winds or better storms and snow above 400m altitude was the weather forecast so I decided to search for a sheltered spot above the snowline for a winter wild camp in strong winds and snow. In this video we are going to the best sheltered mountain wild camp spot in Glen Coe (Scottish Highlands) to my knowledge and endure the snowstorm...

Well I hope you dont have any regrets asking us for your destination 😁 , between a cozy bothy and a cold camp it was sure the majority wanted to see you freeze up there 🤭 . Thats a pretty nice trail getting to the valley wich is quite photogenic too . All those shots of you walking far from the camera are most apreciated but must be demanding for you , thanks from all of us . I thought germans where experts on building walls 😋 yours seemed a little short

@@StripeyHatGuy yeah way handy … i got the StratoSpire 6 years back but wish I had got the scarp … hold it holding up is it dry inside the StratoSpire can get wet ever so often
Yeah in wet areas I prefer definitely when you cann pitch the inner and outer attached, my first proper tent back in the days was also one where you first pitched the inner and than the outer shell...good tent but I sold it on after a few years

Not looking to pry more personal info from you😅, but were you aware of the Scottish mountains before you came here and are they managing to give you sufficient challenge v your Alpine adventures?

To be honest the Scottish Mountains were not on my radar when I was thinking of mountains before I came here. I did know about the ice climbing possibilities near 'Fort William'? So far from the technical point of view the challenge is by far not as high as in the Alps but this is only the case as I don't know the 'right' people here I guess. Alpine adventures are just different, not really possible to compare for me as it is just so different. It starts already by the appearance of the mountain - the stereotypical Scottish Mountain to me is rather round and green...in the Alps they are rather spiky and grey/white.

Hi mate - just a heads up - have you seen the issue which the cross poles can cause, whereby they abrade under the top loop? Tarptent have sent out patches and a loop of dyneema as a fix - you may know about this, in which case no worries - if not - check out the update video under their website for the Scarp 1 and ask them for a kit.

Really enjoy all your videos. Thank you for taking the time and effort to film and then edit. Can't understand why you cook and eat with a wooden spoon though, you are not using non stick pans, so why?
Thank you very much John Lindsay. I use the wooden spoon as it won't scratch the pan and I don't like the feeling of metal on metal. The pan which I am using I got back in 2001 with my primus multifuel (1st generation) and it has a foldable handle which I quite like 👍. I use non stick pans at home but for outdoor use I am more for a kind of robust thinks and a teflon coating is in my head always connected with taking extra care with a knife, scraping, cleaning...might change it when my pan breaks but so far I am happy. Hope it answers the question.

Hi Rooksfoot 1. the frying Pan is from Primus not sure about any other specs but I have already for a long long time and it is pretty descent as the bottom isn't to thin and it distributes quite well the heat.

Love the adventure 'future you', but how do you pack the tent up in such conditions, and how do you dry it out when you get home?? Super to share the locations that you visit, I know the names of the them but have never visited. My thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks a lot! I just pack the tent on the outside of the pack or put it into a waterproof bag/dry bag, at home I put it for a few days over an open door as our ‘washing area’ isn’t big enough for a whole tent 😏

So is the interior door both mesh and solid, or only mesh or only solid?
Hi Jonathan, I have the 4 season inner which is 2/3 solid and the top 1/3 is mesh.
So when you actually open the door there is no screen so anything can fly in?

Is not really a backpacking route...at least not for me but I have seen already people on mountains up via a via ferata with their bikes strapped on the backpack 😱

Why does everyone call it the lost valley when it's actually the hidden valley, where many Mcdonalds perished after the 1692 massacre hiding from the government (Campbell) military!
Actually it is Coire Gabhail and people just refer to it as the Lost Valley or the hidden Valley of Glen Coe.
