    Have been staying a week up in Scotland for a couple reasons, one of which to go for a proper winter wild camp in the Cairngorms. Took the Nortent Vern 1 for its 2nd camp. Coldest temperature I measured was -5 Celsius. Bit of a shame about the lack of visibility as the views should have been spectacular. The tent performed very well, even with the snow drifts coming up to a foot high. Hopefully should have a 2nd Scotland camp on the way.

    Absolutely fantastic Rowan! Next level use of the VERN 1. I was interested to see that the end vents stayed free, despite the depth of the snow. i see you had snow between the inner and outer which you knocked down. Any idea where this got in, was it under a gap in the fly? Did your equipment in the vestibule stay snow free, as this was certainly a problem I had in the Storm star. Thanks for sharing in a clear and quiet way, unlike my constant yapping!

    • @RowanWildCamps
      @RowanWildCamps  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you very much. Indeed, it was nice to see. Apologies for how it may have looked on film, but there was no snow or spindrift in-between the fly and inner, the weight of the snow plus wind had pushed the 2 together right where the elastic toggles are. I had a tad come under the door as I couldn't pile the snow round it there, and I left the top zip on the door open a slither (both preventable to keep snow out). I'm sorry to hear you experienced that with the Storm Star, it was a tent I looked into against the Vern. No no, your videos and insights are top-notch. Cheers, Rowan.

    Another great film Rowan with the G10 for men watch again. Is the vestibule bigger than the Soulo? We need to see it in that horizontal driving rain that causes to Soulo to leak. TYFS 👍

      Glad you liked it, have gotten back from another trip today. So should be out next week. G10 is the way to go. Certainly is bigger, or more usuable space at the very least, plus the versatility of 2 doors. Agreed, I am waiting for the weather to present its self, wanting at least 40mph with rain. That being said, I don't think it will have any issues (fingers crossed). Thanks for watching. Rowan.

    What is Scottish Summer like uo these mountains ? Do you still need a 4 season tent?

    • @RowanWildCamps
      @RowanWildCamps  5 місяців тому +2

      Good afternoon, it is like most places in the wild where it may be forecast for lovely weather, but you can easily have all 4 seasons in a day. So personally I always take the kit for the worst possible weather I may experience. The midges can be murder, so a big net and a tent with an inner is vital, not so much on the summits. I only have 4 season tents because I prefer that design and save owning even more tents, but if you are out of the wind a 3 season tent is of course fine. Several manufacturers refer to 4 season tents as "all season" therefore they can be used year round by having more features. In short you don't "need" a 4 season tent, but if you were to get one to use year round then definitely get a 4 season one, allowing more versatility. Plus you can never be too safe up a mountain. Hope this helps. Rowan.
