  • A freezing winter wild camp in snow after an icy scramble up a scottish mountain in Glen Coe, Scotland. The temperatures dropped in the night to roughly -9 degrees Celsius with a windchill of -18 degree Celsius and snowfall.
    The plan was to scramble up the ZigZags on Gearr Aonach in wintery conditions, finding a winter wild camp spot near the Stob Coire nan Lochan North-Face so that the next day the approach to the broad gully/ forked gully on the north face wouldn't be to long. Unfortunately the snow level wasn't yet high enough.
    Hope you enjoy the icy scramble and winter wild camp - ATB Stripey
    N.B.: This is not a guide or a how to scramble in icy conditions, it is purely a memory for myself!

    The video is even greater than I imagine , just WOW ! I didnt know you did hardcore climbing , one bad slip and you where gone . I will be looking this video another time on my big screen tv , the view needs a bigger frame to contemplate the stunning surrounding . I am getting use to your accent and understand you better each time . With quality video like this I have no doubt your channel will rise rapidly and you have such a charming personality . I am for sure not a proper climber so, I like to use my hands every so often but I know for sure that a lot of my friends back in Germany will only smile at me when they hear that you mentioned hardcore and climbing in the same sentence with my name 😂😂😂. Thanks a lot for watching Sylvain, hope we get some more snow here in Scotland soon - ATB Stripey 👋

    Wow. What a beautiful spot with breathtaking views. Really insightful to see a winter climb and camp. Does the xlight keep you warm in below zero conditions? I use mine for the three seasons and the sea to summit extreme ether mat for winter. Although the extreme ether is very comfy it’s about the same size and weight as my scarp tent. 😂😂 Great vlog. • @StripeyHatGuy

      Hi Mark 👋,
      I think that the snow baskets are really handy when you have like 20+cm snow, particular when the snow is slightly frozen. I would definitely recommend to put some basket's on the poles when you expect snow on the hills makes it just much nicer using the trekking poles as the don't get 'hooked' by every step.

      Hi OldStag72, yeah quite surprised to be honest that so many people watching the videos ☺️👍 Nope the gas works fine apart of a little bit less pressure so cooking takes a bit longer. • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  7 місяців тому

      @@user-jq9lr9vc4f Due to the studs in the corners of the Scarp 1 (only removable with 'pain') I can't put the tent last thing into my rucksack it would need to be on the outside (2 studs per corner, around 30cm? long). Or I put the tent first in my rucksack and then the rest - which is just not practical for me. I like to pack first the inside away and then the outside.
      The Duomid I can just pack together and stuff it at the end into my rucksack as it is just material.

    Whow real mountaineering on a uk trip video. You two chose not to rope up but having an arm and upper body used to balance the camera while you walked up on ice on rock perhaps made you feel exposed and wish for a rope? I guess its hard to tell from my viewpoint but perhaps you considered fully putting away the camera? Anyway recognition for your ambition and well done.
