That tent seems realiable. What tent is it? EDIT: a good minute before the end, I found the info :) Hilleberg Nallo 3, for everybody who is interested.
This was great! I’m 63 and I still love winter camping in the snow. No hot tent, no Little Buddy heater. Just my 2 man tent, my -45 degree sleeping bag, my jet boil, with grub & coffee!
@@Monika-uv2qp it is an old USAF surplus bag, it weighs a ton. So I only use it static camping, not backpacking. ThermaRest LuxuryMap pad to go under my bag, and a ThermaRest Zlite to go on the ground.I have a Jetboil flash cooking system. Alps Mountaineering Tasmanian 2 person 4 season tent. Alps Red Tail backpack. I’m looking into getting a ThermaRest Polar Ranger bag, it is only a -20f bag, but I will get some kind of a down filled poncho that doubles as a bag for a liner.
Love the idea of the isolation. No television, no depressing news, no mobile phone, no music, no humans. As long as I had some chocolate, I would love it. 😊
You don't have to deal with any of that at home if you choose not to. I've never had cable, never watch the news, I only use the phone on rare occasion, but I can't do without my music. If you don't listen to trash music, you don't want to get away from it.
They had fur, leather, and most of all, they had fire, and they kept that fire going, 24/7, which is a lot easier to do when you're traveling with a whole family or clan of more than one family. When you're out there, solo, there's nobody to throw sticks on the fire while you're sleeping. From time immemorial "exile" and "death" were the same word, because if you were left on your own, you were considered pretty much dead.
My feet always get cold unless I'm in room temperature. When my feet are cold, the rest of me feels cold. I'm glad you can enjoy this. I love the idea of it with the storm sounds. Thanks for not adding music.
Experiment with different kinds of boots and also different leg coverings. When I'm in my Sorel pac boots, I feel like I'm invincible. Windproof/weatherproof pants also make a huge difference. I'm the kind of guy who heats up when he's moving, and I don't feel the cold, except on exposed areas of my face and hands. But as soon as I stop, my body cycles down really fast. So I have to stay busy until I either have a fire going or I'm getting in my sleeping bag. But when I'm hustling around, doing things, I just have to be careful about frost bite on my nose, cheeks and hands. I'm just a lizard person at rest.
I usually see you travelling in your van. I have never seen anyone get so excited about a storm. The worst it gets the happier you are. Love watching your videos.
This man walks trough deep snow like he is walking on a beach. Effortlessly. And keep in mind when you film by yourself the trip is twice as long and sometimes three times as long. Walk ahead and place the camera. Walk back and then go forward towards the camera. Then go back and retrieve the camera and do it again and again and again. Brilliant filming. Just amazing.
I thought the snowshoeing looked incredibly slow and cumbersome. Be lucky to cover a mile or two in one day, that way. You don't see many videos by guys who cross-country ski to their camp. If my dad's any indication, the guys who are the best at it learned it the hard way, and don't do that kind of shit for fun. Dad got his ski training up in Leadville, Colorado - Camp Hale, to be specific. As soon as he finished his hitch, the LAST thing he wanted to do was go snow camping! He did eventually buy some skis in his 40s and cover 40 miles in one day, just traipsing around for fun. But there was no way he was going to camp out there. He said "I work so I can have a warm house and just sit on my ass reading a book in my easy chair." I didn't have those experiences coming up, so to me, it was all fun and games, and proving to myself that I could do it, and just enjoying the outdoors. Dad grew up in the city. I grew up in a rural town, with Nature right outside the back door.
You’re likely not to see my message but from one winter camper to another, I salute you. This was extreme hardcore winter camping at its finest. Impressive.
It looks sooo cold even inside the tent. Amazing how something made of fabric can shelter a person in bad weather. That's a pretty sturdy well made tent. I'd like to see someone build an igloo to ride out a blizzard in. This was a good one. Thanks for posting it.
Outdoor Boys channel did an igloo sort of thing once or twice. The tent Xplorer is using looks like an ultralight, single-wall tent, for backpacking. Bare bones survival in severe cold.
I really enjoy watching these types of videos. I'm a truck driver and although I've never camped exactly like this, I will say that there is no better feeling then sleeping in my truck, with the win howling, the rain or snow coming down, and cold outside. The best/worst was a night where it was -52°C. Thankfully I have a bunk heater, but at that temperature, its basically useless. Its now my favorite part of being a trucker
We were in our cabin 2 weeks ago in the UP of Michigan in an exact same type of blizzard. We had the wood stove burning away, nowhere to go and we loved it!! You're brave to be in a tent. The howling of the winds was so relaxing. Good video, I enjoyed it!
We road out a storm at my cabin in Michigan a few weeks back. Power went out so pellet stove went down. Luckily enough we still had the old wood stove in the basement that was the original. My cousins live in the area and brought over enough wood to last the night. We enjoyed some kettle stew and some hottie totties and listened to it howl outside in freezing cold weather.
I absolutely love the UP I used to go to Neebish Island at the end of August. Absolutely the favorite time of my life. That's when I fell in love with the UP. I've seen much more since then. Love it! I'm from NW Ohio.
I love to watch winter camping in snow but I just can't understand why anyone would put themselves through it lol. I wouldn't be able to sleep for those high winds and I can't stand being cold. You're a brave man x
Thank you for braving the extreme conditions and sharing your experiences with us. I would be in tears right after it got lower than 40°F. One year, I went skiing in Utah, I was so demoralized and cold. I came back defeated. So the next year I added a fur layer under my parka and went back to conquer. I did.
Cool storm. I, also love the sound of the snow battering the tent. I can tell by the smile on your face that you are enjoying yourself. Hope you have the happiest of New Years. Stay safe and warm.

Put the snow sound in some of your music. You know Jarl it's easy getting out there before the storm hits. But it's a whole other story trying to make it back in. Call the dogs and hunker down. The only blizzard I saw was while in HS in the blizzard of 93, again here in central Alabama. I wouldn’t have wanted any part of that one! Man, you had 56 mph winds??? Wow!!! Congrats for braving it and making it through safely. I’d be thinking tree limbs, tent ripping, too many possibilities that could turn dangerous really fast. So hats off on that trip. 👍🏼

Happy New year .. thanks for posting this great video. Simply amazing.. words fail me when i see such gorgeous sights.. .you are truly blessed ,🙂 looking forward to seeing more of your amazing videos
You did a great job setting up your camp. The snow wall was an excellent idea to block some of the wind. For what it's worth, I live in Ontario, Canada, where Baffin boots are designed, engineered and manufactured. Arc'teryx outerwear is also designed and engineered in Canada.. Like our Norwegian friends, we Canadians know how to dress for winter and survive it.
Another amazing adventure, Jarl. As always, thank you for taking us with you. Even if I am hundled under a quilt in my warm living room. 😃 Happy New Year and stay safe out there! ☺❤
In Alberta Canada we're pretty used to -35 to - 45° C weather for anywhere from 6-8 months a year and anywhere from 3'-5' of snow! Yet not always at once but very known to happen! So I'm getting what you were going through!

That kind of wind makes for a long night!

Just like the night Rudolf spent in the land of Unwanted Toys! :D
Absolutely beautiful - what a great process and stunning result.
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the way you brace the crazy storm .. stay strong 💪.. keep bringing the content.. cheers mate.
Thanks, will do!
Thanks Steve!
Jarl is a madman! Love this - what a great winter gear setup!

11:50 that sound........ll that wind driven snow just sounds relaxing to me.

Loved it. Just...a bit too short. We want the 1h version of the storm. 😀
Coming soon!
@@NorwegianXplorer You the man! 🥶👍
Beautiful wintery weather
Yes, thank you
In Alberta Canada we're pretty used to -35 to - 45° C weather for anywhere from 6-8 months a year and anywhere from 3'-5' of snow! Yet not always at once but very known to happen! So I'm getting what you were going through!
That is cold, very rare in Norway to get that cold
Ok... I'm moving to Norway! I love snow, and I adore camping outdoors all year round yet I am rather abit tiring of the bitter cold!!!
Come on over:-)
