      I have fine hair that is getting thinner as I get older. It tends to go flat on top, and gets frizzy too, if it’s humid out….but I found a great product that gives so much volume, and keeps my style. I use a blow dry cream with heat protectant on wet hair, then let my hair air dry a little. When it’s about 60-70% dry I spray the roots/layers on the top with ColorWow Raise the Root and blow dry with a round brush, using the cool setting before taking the brush out. You can use it on dry hair too, I think I’ve tried pretty much every volumizing spray on the planet, this one really works. It made the rounds on TikTok, maybe last year, hear, but I don’t watch TikTok. I just saw it in the store and thought I’d give it a try. So glad I did, hope they never stop making it. I’ve used other volumizing products from ColorWow and wasn’t impressed, but this one really does the job.

      Look for a product designated as a 'matte wax' or 'dry wax' and try it out on a day when your hair's already dirty and you're staying home and it doesn't matter. Wax is pliable and endlessly reworkable, so just play! If your hair looks greasy and flat, blast it with a blowdryer on a cold setting for half a minute -- and play some more!

    Hack #3 Non-Directional Drying blew my mind! I never once thought about the logic behind air-drying your hair and expecting it to behave the way you want it to behave. It makes total sense to me now why my hair won't do what I want it to do because I'm just hoping for the best...with no effort at all on my part. (In all honesty, the no-effort-part is exactly why I got a pixie in the first place, but, I'm so desperate to love my pixie that I'll take this tip and give it a try). Thanks so much for sharing your guidance with us!

    I’m one that hates using product because I feel that I have to wash my hair much more often, plus the results don’t last throughout a whole day. As a result, I haven’t tried many styling products. Maybe I’ve used the wrong product or used it in the wrong way. No matter the cut, my hair has always flattened on the crown/temples. Perhaps you could give a lesson on kinds of styling products without it being a long infomercial? The tip on volumizing vs. thinning shears was helpful.

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Рік тому +18

      You’re definitely not alone. It’s all about the right product, which is why I didn’t recommend just one. It’s going to be different depending on hair texture, style, length, hair health etc. You may consider trying a dry powder style of product. They’re less likely to weigh your hair down and will still give you a lot of texture and movement. They can even encourage a bit of volume. The only downside is, like any product, your hair won’t feel “clean”. BUT, if your hair feels clean, it’s likely that the product in it won’t really do anything since the way products get results is to essentially make your hair dirty. Definitely worth a shot though…I think you may really like them. Just search for hair styling powder, or hair texture powder etc.

      @@tishlowe6716 I've tried a ton of products and what I have found that works so well for me is a volumizing mousse--currently using Kenra 17. I dry my hair using my hands and pulling out from my head. After it's dry, I use a straightener, again pulling the pieces out from my head where I want lift. I rub Kenra texturizing taffy 13 into my fingers and run through my hair every which way, pulling and twisting where I want some spike and lift. Finish off with Kenra hairspray 30. I have it down to an art. 😁

    Thank you for all the Good Advice. With age I find my hair thinning quite a bit. But as you have said cut the volume on the sides and feather cut the top for more volumn. The "M" has been the bane of my life because it seems to grow so much quicker than the rest. At last I have found the solution I need. Once again from an old campaigner from South Africa.

    Hi Justin, Thank you for all the tips about pixie cuts. I am getting my next cut in a week. I took some pics to take to my hairstylist. I also ordered 1 of the hair dryers you were
    using. There was a sale at the company & your code took off $10 on top of the sale price. It was cheaper than Amazon with free delivery. I have been using a hair dryer for 50 yrs and never spent this much money, but I have high hopes for this one. Thank you for all your help. Have a nice weekend. 😊

    Great video. I've had a pixie for years, but do struggle to get a decent short cut. I've gone through so many hairdressers since living in Aus. Long hair seems the norm. If I get a good cut, they can't seem to do it again or like last year (the best cut I had) I was told I couldn't request/wait for that stylist and they also don't colour. I now have another hairdresser but 4 weeks ago I had it done for my 35th anniversary celebrations (3 days later) but I struggled to style it and I noticed the sides weren't tapered and seemed one length. My hair grows quick and bulks, so I ended up back to her yesterday and coincidentally I asked her to try texturising it more, particularly the sides, and make the bangs pointy and it now feels much better! :):):):)

    I just want to thank you for your videos! I enjoy them and always learn something new from them - lots in this one, especially texturising shears - I've never seen those before and they're now on my shopping list! I'm afraid I've given up trying to find a hairdresser who will consistently do what I want, so have been cutting my own hair for several years now. (Sorry if that offends hairdressers!) I love how you include styles for the more "mature" woman and those with different types of hair. Thank you Justin. x

    Love the pixie cut style but don't think I'd be brave enough to go for it as I think my face might be too wide for one.
    I need you to come up with that App so I can stick my face in and see what it would look like before commiting to a pixie cut.
    Also not sure I could commit to having to have a haircut every 6 weeks to maintain the look, seems high maintenance to me for a low maintenance look 😅

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Рік тому +10

      Great concerns! Pixie cuts can actually work really well for round faces. They just require more length and height on top and less on the sides to help elongate the face. As for the maintenance....yes, they can definitely be more than some longer shapes. Depending on how well the shape is cut into the hair, they can last longer than 8 weeks. It really just depends on the cut TBH.

It seems like razoring my hair works better. It is also hard fiding someone that is good with a razor, lol. I'm older and a pixie cut looks best on me. My profile photo isn't a pixie cut per se.

    Great video, Justin!
    I have worn a pixie for a little over a year since all my hair came back after a severe hair loss from Covid. I do have a question... I have very curly hair naturally, And I'm wondering if it's a good idea for my hairdresser to use razor scissors. Somewhere along the line I heard that those can make curly hair frizzier. Just wondering what your thoughts are on that. Thanks again for a very helpful video!

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Рік тому +4

      Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. That’s a great question about the razor, it 100% depends on how it’s being used. I would say, for the most part, it absolutely can make curly hair frizzy. Although I have seen instances where it should’ve made curly hair frizzy, and it happened to be the only tool that worked for that particular client. as a rule of thumb, I would say yes, it can make it frizzy, as an idea for you, I would say, maybe consider trying it, but understanding that it may cause that extra frizz. In the case that it did cause frizz, to correct that you would have to cut the ends off of your hair, and potentially go a bit shorter to get those and strong again so that the phrase wouldn’t be as dramatic. I don’t know if that made any sense, but I hope it helps.

      Agreed. Sigh. I've had a pixie cut for more than a year and I desperately want to love it but 9 times out of 10, I hate the way my pixie looks on me. I've gone to at least 4 hair stylists and none of them listen to what I am asking for -- they just cut my hair in their own way, in their own style. I'm so grateful I found this video because I was ready to give up and grow out my hair. I'm going to try the non-directional hair drying technique and see what happens.

    So, I must inherently know these things. I went to the stylist, asked to keep hair around my face. Also, in between appts, I shaved around my ears but left the rest alone. Told the stylist I just wanted the ends "cleaned up"! We'll, she doesn't know anything, she chopped my pixie bad, didn't clean the ends left it more uneven, and shaved all my hair around my face and buzz cut my head, after I said I didn't want it buzz cut again!....ugh!!!

Which I have done in my younger years and it worked out great. My hair was so yellow it was awe-full! I have tried everything, went to several hair dressers who used toners but they dont last...Its nasty, I hate yellow hair. Tried ashes...T18, T 16, silver hair dye which helped..But What do you recommend? I have a pixie at this time...do I just wait and let it grow out and keep cutting?
