My hair goes flat as soon as i walk out the door! I have a pixie and have never tried a wax! I would love a video tutorial on how to texturize with a wax! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you! I’m stoked I can help. I will definitely consider a video on that topic! Thanks for the suggestion!
I have fine hair that is getting thinner as I get older. It tends to go flat on top, and gets frizzy too, if it’s humid out….but I found a great product that gives so much volume, and keeps my style. I use a blow dry cream with heat protectant on wet hair, then let my hair air dry a little. When it’s about 60-70% dry I spray the roots/layers on the top with ColorWow Raise the Root and blow dry with a round brush, using the cool setting before taking the brush out. You can use it on dry hair too, I think I’ve tried pretty much every volumizing spray on the planet, this one really works. It made the rounds on TikTok, maybe last year, hear, but I don’t watch TikTok. I just saw it in the store and thought I’d give it a try. So glad I did, hope they never stop making it. I’ve used other volumizing products from ColorWow and wasn’t impressed, but this one really does the job.
Thanks for the tips!!! Can I please make a request??? I'd love to see a demonstration on the proper way to use pomade/wax in short hair. I'm afraid I'll use to much and make my hair look greasy and if i use too little, then it doesn't do much!!! Would really appreciate seeing some demos on this 🙂
Thank you! I will definitely consider this topic for an upcoming video! Thanks for the feedback!
@Justin Hickox 🙂 Thank you! I'm pretty much hopeless when it comes to hair!!!!
I have the same problem with my fine hair/pixie!
Look for a product designated as a 'matte wax' or 'dry wax' and try it out on a day when your hair's already dirty and you're staying home and it doesn't matter. Wax is pliable and endlessly reworkable, so just play! If your hair looks greasy and flat, blast it with a blowdryer on a cold setting for half a minute -- and play some more!
I’ve been using Enjoy wax and it does pretty good but I just can’t find a good, hard hold, hairspray.
We’ve been using this blowdryer at home for the past 8 months and it’s one of our favorites! Check it out: bit.ly/laifenswiftdryer
On your recommendation, I bought my college son a Laifen and then I got one for Christmas. We both love it!
@@Andra-cr9cd That's awesome! Thanks for trusting me on this! They're great right!
Is it strong enough for salon work?
Hey Justin, l got myself a Pixie Cut because l got a condition that affects my hormones and l shed all over the place 😲 I got a lot of fine hair so l ain’t bald yet lol.
…..Anyways your tips & tricks helped my fine hair to look FULL. No more mess in my house! Pretty awesome dude 😎
@@madeleinemulholland503 There's rumor that they're working on a professional version but I could absolutely use this one at the salon. I would just check the cord length and make sure it's long enough for your station.
I have had a pixie cut for decades and love it. My natural hairline is a "V". Most hairdressers will cut it straight across before doing anything else. I now tell them to leave my "V " alone!
Love all the tips you gave for pixies! I've been wearing a pixie for years...always have some issues as they grow out, figuring out how to get the most out of them..and yes, finding the right styling products. Could you do a video on how to successfully grow out a pixie to a longer style, say a bob?
Your explanations are excellent. What I like most is combining the actual performing of the function. This makes it easier to visualize the finished product. Good stuff!
That was timely! I was just having a “should I grow it” moment, now you’ve given me something to play with!
Great tips, found out I'm already doing some of these intuitively anyway! It helps that I have been going to the same fabulous stylist for years - she knows my hair inside out so works with it's weird kinks and flicks when she's cutting, so it just sits beautifully without too much styling
As a lifelong former pixie wearer, I so agree about the tapering by the ears! I have a "football" shaped head, the widest point is eye/ear level. So whenever it started growing out, I got the "Bozo effect." 🙄🤡 Now if I could just find a stylist that actually KNOWS HOW TO DO A GOOD PIXIE CUT!!! (they're like a needle in a haystack!)
That’s where I’m at as well! Someone who truly gives a damn about my pixie cut!
Go find a Sassoon-trained stylist.
Great job! The woman with the green sweater on number 5 is stunning! It looks like a perfect cut on her...then again, she's kind of like your wife, beautiful all the way.
I just want to thank you for your videos! I enjoy them and always learn something new from them - lots in this one, especially texturising shears - I've never seen those before and they're now on my shopping list! I'm afraid I've given up trying to find a hairdresser who will consistently do what I want, so have been cutting my own hair for several years now. (Sorry if that offends hairdressers!) I love how you include styles for the more "mature" woman and those with different types of hair. Thank you Justin. x
2:24 i just did my first pixie cut today and love it
I have had pixie cuts for years...wish you could cut my hair!! Some stylists don't know how to cut it while still keeping it feminine which is very important to me.
Such a helpful video. I have curly hair and a pixie with the bulk on top due to cheekbones being the widest part of my face. I dry it straight but would love to know how to wear and dry a curly pixie for those days when the humid or wet weather makes my straight hair pixie attempt difficult. Thank you so much.
This is fabulous! I shared it with my stylist. Love the "M" hairline. So much for feminine and does draw the eye up!
I’ve always struggled with my thin hair forever and now that I’m in the “Golden” years it seems as if my hair is getting even thinner. The only time I like my hair is the day I wash and style it. After that it’s all down hill. I’ve kept it short for a long time now, not quite a pixie but short enough. Thanks for all the info and your honesty. It’s much appreciated. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤙🤙🤙🤙
I identify with you. I think menopause plays a huge part in thinning hair. My hair has been shedding so badly. Baby hair do grow but cannot keep up with shedding so looking very thin. Only looks good after wash and blow. I am exploring HRT. Or I may chop my hair into a pixie but already spent so much on hair products for long hair😢😢
Another informative video!!!…great tips!!…you always nail it, Justin….enjoy your week!!!…say hi to Dionna!!!…much love and appreciation for you, my friend!💜
Thank you, Linda! I really appreciate the support! I’m so glad you liked the video. When are you gonna go into a pixie cut!?! Lol I’ll tell Dionna you said hi! Thanks again.
@@justinhickox omg!!!…I am still moving towards the Rapunzel look!…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣..
American Crew Molding Clay $10-15usd and you don't need much, it's a texture in the middle of the 2 shown in the video. That one little 3oz container is probably going to last me the whole time my buzz cut is growing out. Because it doesn't show like product in your hair, I may use it no matter my length, really loving it.
I appreciate you helping us out by being so detailed in your explanations, even putting up diagrams :). My buzzcut is finally getting past the awkward growing out stage and I'm considering pixie hair for a little bit, this helps. For me, mostly the bit about the sides of your hair.
Thats a great product. I personally liked Redkens Water Wax the best..it gave a shine on top of control.
@@marswmnwhoever2188 Ty :) I'll have to give that one a try as well.
Great tips, as usual! I always end up cutting the crown of my hair in between salon visits cause I felt like it was going flat as it was growing out. Your tip that it's my sides growing out making too much bulk thus making the top look flat....hello...that makes so much sense! Thanks for all the great tips!!
Thank you! Glad I can help! Side note about the crown. If you notice that your crown tends to part or split (like you have a strong cowlick), it could likely be that the crown is too short. Keep that in mind if you find yourself cutting it a lot.
@@justinhickox, this is exactly my issue. Thank you!
Thanks for addressing the short pixie hair.
This man would be absolutely appalled how bad hairdressers can be. That's why a good/great cut will get lots of compliments. People want to know WHO cut their hair.
So true. I’ve been struggling for a while to find a stylist who knows what to do!
Will you please elaborate on types of products necessary for short pixie hairstyles? I have a pixie cut and desire the “organized messed up” look and struggle with finding \ using \ application of the correct products to achieve that messy, chic look. I love that look so much! Thank you.
Me too. Love that messy look. Tried this morning not putting the root volume in my hair before drying and the non directional drying method. Loved how it came out. Let’s see if it stays. Did add wax a bit of hairspray to keep its shape. Hope it works.
Vielen Dank für diese wunderbaren Tipps.
I bought this blow dryer and I am soooo please with it!!!!!! Best I have ever tried!
Justin - great video with information I needed. Especially the hair pattern on the nape. That is a game changer that I've never heard anyone talk about.
Thank you! I totally agree with the M shape in the nape! I see so few stylists doing it but it changes EVERYTHING!
Hi from India .. I simply loved watching this video and find it difficult getting that perfect haircut.
You always have the best tips and tricks.
Hope you have a great day.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Was there any specific tip you liked the most?
@@justinhickox yes, it is the tip about the M at the nape drawing the eye up . Loved it
I enjoy your vids! Have you thought about designing pixie wigs? Or maybe critiquing some of the available pixie styles? It would be wonderful to see a hair expert do this for the wig community. Many reviewers are sent wigs by retailers and are really trying to influence buyers. I am a wig reviewer but I pay for my wigs so I just want a good style to wear myself and share my experience with other wig wearers. I’m not trying to convince anyone to purchase. Thank you for your hard work!
I will second that!!😊
I want to thank you for introducing me to Laifen! It dries my hair so fast and I generally use it on the medium to mitigate heat damage. I love it so much! 😃
I find that wrong direction drying is brilliant for my fine hair. As requested below - a video showing some styling techniques using products?
I use Nivea cream (the thick kind) for volume AND shine. Try it!
Great video. I've had a pixie for years, but do struggle to get a decent short cut. I've gone through so many hairdressers since living in Aus. Long hair seems the norm. If I get a good cut, they can't seem to do it again or like last year (the best cut I had) I was told I couldn't request/wait for that stylist and they also don't colour. I now have another hairdresser but 4 weeks ago I had it done for my 35th anniversary celebrations (3 days later) but I struggled to style it and I noticed the sides weren't tapered and seemed one length. My hair grows quick and bulks, so I ended up back to her yesterday and coincidentally I asked her to try texturising it more, particularly the sides, and make the bangs pointy and it now feels much better! :):):):)
Thank you for all the Good Advice. With age I find my hair thinning quite a bit. But as you have said cut the volume on the sides and feather cut the top for more volumn. The "M" has been the bane of my life because it seems to grow so much quicker than the rest. At last I have found the solution I need. Once again from an old campaigner from South Africa.
So glad you did this video Justin. I learned a lot !! Thank you !!❤
You're so welcome! I'm glad I could help! Was there anything you learned that really stood out to you?
When you accessorized the dog, the clouds parted and I understood your vision. Yes!💕
Thanks for the helpful video. I will be trying non directional blowdrying 👍🏻
Love your videos Justin. Many tips much needed ❤️👍🏼
Thank you so much! I’m so glad I could help.
I love wearing a pixit cut but it is really hard finding someone that actually knows how to cut one correctly. Do you use a razor when you do a pixie cut? It seems like razoring my hair works better. It is also hard fiding someone that is good with a razor, lol. I'm older and a pixie cut looks best on me. My profile photo isn't a pixie cut per se.
❤❤❤ Love the Pixie Look! the drying tips are Great, Thank You
I love my pixiehaircut.
I love to swim.
So easy and fast dried and styled
I dont like a hard wax. To hard to aplay and it s just to dry
Love the hairdryer. So light yes powerfull
I knew because of cowlicks that cutting my long hair would not mean less work. I like what my stylist does to disguise my lack of a natural M by fringing the nape and giving me my own unique style.
Nothing wrong with that at all! The most important thing you can do is what makes you feel best. If that goes against what I say...ABSOLUTELY ignore me!
@@justinhickox I have only watched a few of your videos. I have noticed the emphasis you place on hair that moves, which is good for hair with a mind of its own. My hair is now cut following most of what is shown in this current video and drawing compliments. I do have strong cowlicks at the widow's peak and nape (off center). I am thankful to the stylists who have told me to stop trying to control them.
@@deborahwilson6970 Hey! Thanks for hanging out with me! I do believe movement is a big part of keeping things youthful and fun. Like you said, working with your hair is SO much easier than working against it. Glad you found a solid stylist!
I LOVE your tips! They make so much sense and create a look that obviously isn't by accident! Really enjoy you personality too :) Keep doing you!
Thank you Justin for a great video. I just placed an order for the Laifen hair dryer. Got a great deal of $127. I started the whole journey for pixie cut info. 😊
Also love your highlights, lowlights, hair color. Can you speak about that a bit?
I really liked your video I have always had a pixie cut or an asymmetrical look. I liked all of the points that you made It will help a lot of people! I will check out more of you vid’s
great cuts
I have both, the Dyson and the Laifen blowdryers. The Laifen heat function stopped working after 4 months. I now pretty much use it to blow build-up dust from my computer keyboard, fans, heaters, etc... If you have fine hair, DON'T buy it because it is too strong therefore you can't control your hair. The power cord is so short that you literally have to stand very close to the power source. Seriously, WTF? Clearly, they did not design this with the hairstylist in mind, this makes no sense. The power cord is so heavy so if you were to add an extension cord, it's like working out with weights.
Love your videos! Does non directional drying sometimes cause problems with cowlicks? Also does point cutting accomplish the same thing as texturizing shears? Thank so much! (ps love the travel videos❤❤)
I have a cowlick right in the front and part against it and pull it down. Face looks lopsided if I use the cowlick as my part😂
I love watching your video, particularly when it comes to pixies. So informative and make me wish we had your talent here in Long Island NY. How I wish upon wish one day you hold a contest where one lucky person (me) could win a haircut by you. A girl can dream! Keep up the great videos😊😊🙏
Thanks!
You're so welcome! Thank YOU for that support! Is there anything you'd like to see covered in a future video?
I loved the hint on the baseline. That's so elegant and soft, and very good at elongating the neck. Great tip. Good content. Tnx.
I've never seen those texturing scissors. I just use the thinning one. But I'll look out for those ones you mentioned.
Now the hair dryer...
I thought it was that other make(Shhh) when you picked it up.
Interesting there more different makes. Good.tnx.
I like the hair dryer because it’s so pretty!
Wow, I learned all kinds of things ‼️😃👌
Awesome! Glad I can help!
One of the most helpful videos! Thanks Justin
Agree with you in the M cut in back❤
RIGHT! Makes such a big difference and I see so few people doing it!
Can you give suggestions for the right bangs. I have a small narrow face. I want my face to appear fuller. Thank Linda
Love the “M” cut suggestion. I never liked the straight across cut as it makes me look too wide on the neckline. Now I know what to tell me hairdresser what I want. Thanks!
My hairdresser kept going shorter and shorter.. it looked very manly.. first 2 cuts were great, then she went shorter each time even when I asked not to cut so short.. I went through 3 doing that, so I'm letting it grow out now 😢
I feel your pain. I've had a pixie cut for more than a year and I desperately want to love it, but 9 times out of 10, I hate the way my pixie looks on me. I've gone to at least 4 hair stylists over the past year and none of them listen to what I am asking for -- they just cut my hair in their own way, in their own style. Sigh.
I totally can vouch for the dryer. LOVE it! What a game changer for my pixie cut!!
I fall into Camp #2. Currently I have a long asymetrical shaggy pixie that has been over texturized with a razor. I'm not a happy camper. Unfortunately this video doesn't apply to me. I was looking for styling tips while my hair is growing out. I may end up with another undercut.
Are pixie cuts suitable for everyone? Especially women over 65?
Yes!!
Laifen SE, Special or Premium - do you have a recommendation?
Thanks pal. I have always had questions about these types of products. This was helpful.
Wow what a great video I've learnt the way that I didn't expect, it was so helpful I love your video Dear Justin Hickox thank you so much love and respect for you
Do you any different tips for 3c/4a hair pixie cut please!?
I have the opposite issue of a lot of ladies here in that my hair is extremely thick and coarse which is why I keep it short to begin with. It makes it difficult to style my pixie. It just ends up feeling and looking bulky. Is there anything I can suggest to my hair stylist as far as technique that will allow me to style my hair easily?
fantastic tips
Thank you! I appreciate that!
What a great video!! Thank you so much!
Love the tips! Please, more about pixies l have ugly neck line & absolutely no body. Help
I have a pixie, but struggle to get the right cut for the back as my hair line tends to go off to the left and then it looks like I have an uneven cut in the back. What would you suggest for this issue. I normally get an 8 or 6 in the back, would it help to go shorter? I have gotten a 4 but would like more hair to have less of my scalp exposed. Thank you for all your videos, especially the pixie ones.
Can you do a video on color for pixies? Is it possible to get painted highlights or balayage to blend gray hair???
I love your tips. Now to find a stylist that will do all that. I can’t cut my own hair. If I did I would look like when my mom destroyed my bangs the night before 4th grade class pictures.
Thanks for these tips 😄
Loved your content..
Really appreciate your takes! Well thought out & well said!
Love tip number 4 ,thank you.
Makes me want to get a pixie cut!
Do you know what they say, hair always grows! Lol
Ok I'm inspired I hope I can find the right stylist to go by these suggestions lol ❤
Thank you @JustinHickox I've had a pixi for a couple decades and this was great information!
I’m going to give my hairdresser these tips .
Thank you! I appreciate that word of confidence!
I would love to find a hairdresser in the Portland metro area who is as highly skilled as you.
Go see Sharon or Danielle at my salon. I learned from them! They would take great care of you! Call 503.227.2664.
@@justinhickox Thanks for the recommendation! High quality cuts and highlights are important to me. Over the last maybe decade, finding a hairdresser who can achieve those has been hit or miss.
My M line is a problem for me as it goes to one side and looks so messy 😢 any advise to help me?? Thank you
Ugh, cowlicks...in front at bangs and in back at neck. Could you do something on taming them.
Thank you for your advice most pretty basic stuff but always a pleasure..🎉
I personally think pixies look GREAT fuller like Demi Moore in Ghost or 90's styles and I LOVE Vidal Sassoon precision cutting I'm not into REALLY short pixies for myself but LOVE them when done RIGHT..❤
And over texturizing doesn't really look GOOD to me because it can make the HAIR look frayed and damaged looking texturizing is a slippery slope so PLEASE be careful none for me PLEASE ..😵💫
I have FINE HAIR but a lot of it and then many STYLISTS seem to think they can go CRAZY only to make my HAIR look FRIED and THIN looking and it's like creating split ends ..😢
I want FULL healthy looking HAIR and I'm sure most women do too so PLEASE DON'T do this yourself you'll regret it and even be careful letting someone else do it remember LESS is MORE and texturizing isn't always the answer especially for women's HAIRSTYLES👍🏻
Mens hairstyles are different but they can have it DONE too much as well it happen to my son and he was so upset the person shaved off too MUCH and then his cut was a mess with a big chunk taken out at the bang line right in front so we're suppose to TRUST the person cutting our hair and EVEN the best ones can make mistakes I just wish there was a guarantee but no such thing and then if your not HAPPY then you still have to pay so not COOL I truly believe you mess my HAIR up or I'm not happy that STYLISTS doesn't deserve a dime..😢
I just wish that more STYLISTS would understand that most women like having HAIR on their heads if they can and if we want it SHORT that doesn't give the STYLIST the license to go scissors CRAZY or shaver CRAZY or texturizing CRAZY when the person doesn't want it but unfortunately so MANY stylists don't really listen and then we go HOME in TEARS so SAD I'm so traumatized by them now and I wish I didn't have this FEAR but so MANY just do WHATEVER they want in the END not COOL..🥴
And I'm sorry but can you please loose the music in the background while you're talking it's so annoying trying to listen to you it makes no sense really and it's not even good MUSIC.. 😉
Also for those looking for products be careful some can just be adding layers of silicones on the hair and then you'll want to wash your hair everyday and some can be damaging and they can weigh the hair down, some are greasy and some can EVEN cause scalp issues like itchy scalp and dandruff as well cause HAIR LOSS look for light weight products that are not full of irritates ..👍🏻
So do your research on them and protect your SCALP in the summer and ALL year-round really because the dermatologist will check your scalp if you go for a full checkup look for ways to protect your scalp like hats, umbrellas and shaded areas when it's hot out or not but sunny out and there are some products for HAIR that even have SPF protection in them so LOOK for those as WELL 🌈
Also I want to add that having SOME weight to your hair isn't a BAD thing don't let HAIR STYLISTS tell you that you need to keep thinning your hair out or you need more texturizing having WEIGHT to your hair isn't a BAD thing and it's actually nice when you go outside and your hair is not blowing ALL over the place having a little bit of weight to your hair especially if you have fine hair is important if you have heavier hair and really thick hair and I mean really thick hair then maybe but when you have FINE HAIR even when you have a lot of it doing too much texturizing can make it be a nightmare blowing ALL over the place I need to have WEIGHT on my HAIR I don't like having my hair blow ALL over the place and that's not what I call nice movement in the END and make SURE the STYLIST evenly distributes your HAIR when cutting it also so important and it can REALLY make a haircut a mess if not DONE right...😢
So in the end keeping some WEIGHT on your HAIR is OKAY..👍🏻
Thanks for listening ❤❤
I enjoyed the video. Where can I buy unscented (no added perfume or fragrance) pomade. I have become sensitive to perfumes etc. and can't find pomade. I appreciate the cutting tips, now to get my hair dresser to do them and I really appreciate the bottom ideas. I have been try to get my hair dressers to skip razors or very short backs. I have been doing multi directional drying forever, or at lease since I cut my waist length hair above my shoulders in 1993. My two year old cried.
Im so excited! Watching so many pixie videos right now in preparation, ive never had hair longer than shoulder length my entire life and cut a pixie 3 different times. Currently growing out my natural grey, its kina chin length bob with beached ends but and think ill cut sooner rather than later🥳🥳 ive super fine straight hair and find Schwarzkopf got2b powder is amazing
Ty❤
Love the video! I'm doing my first D iy at home and I'm actually going to be bleaching my hair and dying it pastel pink and I'm Italian so my hair is very greasy along with my face so I got cremo sculpting clay high hold matte finish!
I really enjoyed this. Can you respond to questions re hairstyles that work for growing out bangs and a short haircut. The back of my hair is growing out quickly but my bangs are not keeping up! I just wear a headband to keep my bangs back while the back of my hair grows. Suggestions much appreciated! I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching.
I cannot get enough of this guy, great sexy cuts: Justin !!!
R = rotations, not rounds - ie: rotations per minute
Question...I am now 67 and loved my grey hair as it was growing out. I was letting it go...BUt I messed with it...wanted it more white. So I tried lightening with bleach. Which I have done in my younger years and it worked out great. My hair was so yellow it was awe-full! I have tried everything, went to several hair dressers who used toners but they dont last...Its nasty, I hate yellow hair. Tried ashes...T18, T 16, silver hair dye which helped..But What do you recommend? I have a pixie at this time...do I just wait and let it grow out and keep cutting?
I have always loved pixies but since I gained pandemic weight I find pixie looked better on my thinner self. How can we bigger girls wear a pixie
Will you come to my house and cut my hair please LOL.
I love how you actually explain the "why" about how hair does and lies the way it does. THANK YOU~!
Can I ask what your take is on the Dyson hair dryer versus the Laifen you're advertising here? I'm in the market for a great hair dryer.
I bought a Dyson hair dryer about 4 years ago, and I love it! It dries my hair a whole lot faster than the cheapie I used to have; it’s comparatively quiet, and the magnetic attachments are cool. It’s worked the whole time with NO problems.
@@susangrande8142 cool! Nice to get feedback from real users 😀
again!!!👍👍👍👍♥️
Thanks!!
I am gray, I cute my long hair short - and my son asked me why I got a KAREN cut. There's a lot of the women yelling at people on the Internet who have short hair cuts. I let my hair grow back out, it's nice to be able to put it in a pony tail. Sometimes I wish it were short, but it takes to long to grown it back out and I don't want to associated with the Karens types!
Wear what makes you feel good, that you like. There is no such thing as a Karen haircut. That's people saying dumb things.
Drying my curls like that would give me frizz
Absolutely! I would approach a curly look with a diffuser and as little manipulation as possible. I'll be doing more curly hair content this year for sure.
Happy to know you’ll be posting content about curly hair. What about natural/tightly coiled/ short hair?
I have a bob and was thnking of a pixie cut. How can you tell if a pixie cut will suit your face?
How can I use foam rollers in this short pixie cut? I am having such a hard time
Love your hair videos thanks for the hacks, wish you could cut my hair 😊
