From the looks of the pool test it seems that the lucky craft has a different sound to it. As far as the action goes, the lucky craft has a little more wiggle to it where as the calissa seemed to have a bit of a lazy action.
The Calissa would go straight then up on some retrieve without having any action at all in the surf and all it's crazy flows. I'm not sure if it's the lip or internals, but LC has very good action as long as there's a retrieve. Water flow could hit the LC from any direction and it'll still keep the depth/action vs Calissa that won't during retrieving. I fish Monterey mostly so sometimes there's really massive waves where you'll actually feel the difference....120SP Duo is still the best for me though haha, perch too stripers.
Seriously! That is so crazy. Other than slight, very slight, differences they are very close. In a situation where the perch are hungry, it should do well
Just ordered my first LC yesterday and It took me a few minutes to decide if I wanted to save the $4, but I think that I might have to order a few calissas they look pretty similar.
Ean Ibarra they’ll catch fish but if it came down to it, the lucky craft holds a tad bit more confidence at the moment. You’re right, more testing to come
Hi Ed, how do you rig up for the Calissa or Lucky Craft? Are you using a leader if so how do you attach the leader to braid. Are you using a swivel? I am using the tactical angler clip to attach the lure. Thank you
Braid to leader to clip. Here’s the knot. How to tie an FG knot w Rizzuto finish in depth explained in detail under 5 minutes ua-cam.com/video/MNBEtFolGJQ/v-deo.html
This was dope, needed this video..been lookin at similar products to LC and not convinced and I'm still new to perching so I like watch your casts and retrieval speed
For sure bro! Thank you so much for being a part of the group. Your becoming the go to Cabezon professor! Haha Martin was talking about it the whole way to Monterey how you fish the same holes up there but you seem to get em every time!
@@Hook2Cook yo I do fish the same spots out there but the best part about fishing out there in cayucos is there is a few miles of different terrain which is perfect because we can fish any time of the day, low tide or hide. There's always a spot to accommodate us.
hey nice vid. I was wondering since I have never surf fished. This being a jerk bait by design is a straight retrieve the best method. and to a surf noob can you tel me if the rip rip rip stop cadence even matters?
The waves make it a different challenge. If it’s pulling back you can pause and it’ll still have action. When it’s pushing the lure you gotta catch up.
Where do you get info about the tides? I usually fish from Venice beach all along PCH to Oxnard. I would like to get info on the tides on Venice, Santa Monica, Malibu, Point Mugu and Oxnard. Thanks for the review.
Hey bud, thanks for the vid. What length rod would you suggest for perch/striper (mostly perch) that can pull double duty for Carolina rig and lures? I have an 8’6” okuma but thinking about going longer for distance.
It’s tough but you’ll want to find something that casts up to 2oz for a normal Carolina rig. Started looking at the shins I dialuna for that but it’s like $300... anything that casts too heavy, you’ll lose the ability to cast the lighter lures. Going from 1/2oz-2oz is a pretty wide stretch... maybe look into the Daiwa saltest... maxes out at 1-1/4 oz for the 9’6” model.
Interesting experiment. I'd like to see some more of these pool tests with other lures. Keep us informed about the red tide; I'm ready for that clear water!
That was done purposely according to Calissa. In Florida, where the company is based out of some places are very pressured- just like areas here. Sometimes fish will prefer a more subtle lure. We cut both lures in half and found out the differences too. ua-cam.com/video/yf17r0uRRg4/v-deo.html
Looks like it. We upgrade the trebles though which creates a slow sink which seems to create a second strike if you pause it if the fish misses the first time. It’s more natural
Can you try a Rapala X-rap and a Daiwa SP in the pool. The sounds produced by the lures were different not sure if that helps with the attraction from the fish.
Theoretically, the louder rattles might help to attract and dirty or water conditions or more rough water. And heavily pressured situations, a softer sound might do better
yes dominant strong hand should be on the rod. a lot of people cast the rod right handed then switch hands and reel with the right hand too. wasted movement. keep the rod in your right and reel with the left. its surprising there aren't more "leftys"
It seems to me the lucky craft has a better rattle (louder sound) than the Coleleas. It also seemed to me the lucky craft traveled as bit lower. DOUGLAS Hales
The knot you're using for that jerkbait totally ruins the lure's action. To turn it's head, that poor lure must move the entire line stiffly attached to it's nose. Using a 'Rapala Knot' or 'Kreh Loop', the lure can boogie without being stiffly hobbled. It makes a huge difference. Visualize: shaking your head with a stiff, 100' cord attached, welded straight to your nose. Now try with a loose loop through your nose. There is no play when it's a static point - AKA a stiff, firmed up knot (like your uni) - because there is a firm resistance to any wobble effect, but with a loop, the freedom to slide back and forth allows much more action out of the lure.
@@Hook2Cook thanks for the quick response. Is there any real difference (performance wise) with the 110mm vs 140mm. I was thinking of trying out the 140mm to cast further out. Your thoughts?

YEA, YOU NEED TO REEL FASTER TO GET IT TO START GOING
Agree...lucky craft is very consistent with sound and action on fast and slow retrieve. Not the same with the calissa
The Calissa would go straight then up on some retrieve without having any action at all in the surf and all it's crazy flows. I'm not sure if it's the lip or internals, but LC has very good action as long as there's a retrieve.

Love the 120 duo! It’s a staple in the aqueduct too in ghost minnow

Nice video! Definitely the Calissa wobbled alot more. I haven't ever tried surf fishing but I'll tackle that soon!

What is a reasonable distance to be casting the lucky craft/ calissa lure
30-50 yards
I saw that you were using an okuma cellio. I am thing of buying one for throwing the calisa and maby the Carolina rig. Which model should I get.
9’6 ML
Thanks

We use an app on iOS called Ocean Watch. You can program most stretches of Beach on any coast and displays the tides in wave format.
The lucky craft seems to have more action (swim motion) and if you listen it makes more rattle also? It almost seems like the Calissa took on water?

I notice the lucky craft has more of a wiggle and rattle to it than the calissa. Do they cast equal length?
A bunch of people have been saying they feel like the Calissa casts farther by a few yards
Also you’ll see why in our next video. We cut the lures in half. Here’s the link to the premiere ua-cam.com/video/yf17r0uRRg4/v-deo.html

Of course! Red tide seems to be dying off as the days get shorter! That’s the nice thing about winter
seems to me like the LC swims slightly more tighter and the Calissa has a noticeably wider wobble, as you mentioned
Agreed. It seems to depend on speed though. How fast you retrieve the bait seems to affect the action.
Slow sink in freshwater probably has slow rise in saltwater
Great point about the buoyancy being different in salt
I noticed the LC sounded louder not sure if that’s a factor also LC had a tighter action not much but noticeable enough
Agreed. The pitch is slightly different as Calissa informed us the chamber is slightly smaller
Seems like you really need to get that calissa going in order to get it to rattle.

Looks like it. We upgrade the trebles though which creates a slow sink which seems to create a second strike if you pause it if the fish misses the first time. It’s more natural
Which one casts farther?
We like to think the calissas do
you'll have to understand that a saltwater suspending bait will slow sink in pool or fresh water because of water density being different =)
Did they pick up all the plastic they threw down on the beach??
If you’re referring to the packaging, you probably didn’t see we are able to drive on the beach. Everything we bring in, we haul out.
sweet!
I change out one of the hooks with a Owner 4x treble. big fish can straighten the stock hooks. A 20 lb striper bent the shit out of them.
Same here but vmc 4x size 4
Great video! You need to get them to release the glow one and they’d be huge. Word is, LC isn’t going to make them anymore
Ronnie Bartnicki at this point, it wouldn’t be a surprise! They pushed it back so much it’s rediculous
Exactly! LC is local and the local tackle shop said they do it all the time with big sellers for some reason

Now, can we get a Glow Sardine from Calissa?
Literally the million dollar question
Plainly evident in the first minute of this video
Myron Hewski There was no calissa glow sardine in this video
If I'm not mistaken you guys fish right hand. I'm right handed and fish with the rod in my strong hand. My left is reel hand.

i would say the lucky craft ha more side action.
See how it acts as a jerk bait and how the sink rate also check the water temp
