  • Surf Fishing with the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow:
    I have wanted to try this lure in the surf but have never pulled the trigger until now. I have heard good things and see other UA-camrs use this lure in the California surf but I wanted to see it for myself. My first experience fishing with this lure in the surf and I am impressed so far. Not only did we catch a bunch of quality surfperch, we also caught our first Striped Bass of 2018! Leave a comment below! Links below to the gear I used to make this video:

    surprise striper, nice man. for anyone reading this, tie your knots TIGHT with this lure. it works best in shallow breaks and dives a bit, so it tends to dig into the bottom if you're not careful. i lost one like this, bye bye $20😭. otherwise, it slays the big perch!, set my then-pb on it last year👍🎣

       Die Hard Fishing Palomar or Uni and your good to go. Check your knot frequently. Use 10lb test and stronger at the sacrifice of casting distance

      The nice thing about perch fishing is it is less of a production than getting out the kayak or jumping on a boat. It gives me more opportunities to get out fishing and throw together a video!

    • @PacificaFisherman
      @PacificaFisherman 6 років тому +2

      I hear yah. I do all my fishing from the shore, and I love fishing for surf perch. It's my favorite fish to catch. What I would like to do someday is to be able to catch a video of surf perch feeding on sandcrabs, right there in the first trench out. That would be be awesome! I haven't seen such a video yet, and if there is one out there I'd sure like to see it. I've never done any scuba diving, so perhaps I need to stop by Andersons and take a few lessons. Then I could take my Go Pro out into the surf on a smooth clear summer day and get some video of it.

    Nice video. I’ve been using LC flash 110 for a long time. Very versatile and productive. For bigger perch try using the 115 and also try during a bigger surf. Not sure what the conditions were but the video looks closer to low tide. High tide is the best, but a false high tide is not as good as an angry surf.

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  6 років тому

      I will have to give the 115 a try. Have yet to hook into any real giants this winter!

  • @daviddelorbe8449
    @daviddelorbe8449 6 років тому

    The only thing I would suggest is changing the hooks out. I
    caught a 10 pound striper fishing for perch and it bent the hooks really bad. As much as I love the lucky craft lures, the hooks are not good for heavier fish. Nice video dude.

    • @DieHardFishing

      Thanks for the tip! I actually did that already. I caught a 21 pound striper earlier this year and it bent out all three hooks, lol. Video is live on my channel!

      I use a power swivel in the middle to prevent line twists. The knot is a Palomar knot. There are plenty of knots you can use but this is the one I use because it is easy to tie on the go. Hope this helps!

    • @ChiefToad
      @ChiefToad 6 років тому +1

      The best advice I could give when fishing for Perch and other close to shore fish is...learn to read a beach. How to spot what structure, soft and hard, make up the area. Troughs, cuts, rips, holes etc. It will help you immensely in finding fish. Truthfully lure choice makes much less difference that that.

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  6 років тому +2

      mrtoady2, well said. Good advice there.
      Vaaj, it really depends on the day. On this day I was getting one every 10-15 casts on average but I just went again and got a skunk. As they say, that is why the call it fishing and not catching!

    • @vaajrambo2053
      @vaajrambo2053 6 років тому

    Got a question I'm fairly new to surf fishing, I have a lc but had trouble casting it out, seemed too light and wouldn't cast far, any tips? Is low tide best when using this lure?

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  6 років тому

      Generally people like to fish during high tide for surfperch. It can be a tough lure to cast but one tip I would give is to try using braided line. This line is thinner in diameter and casts better than monofilament or fluorocarbon.

  • @Maliq993

    Im new to fishing altogether and last week I've been to vacation on sea with just one catch. However, that can be explained by time of fishing since I was fishing at wrong times at noon or with no rising or falling tide. I was tight with time so didin't have much time anyway to try to go in ideal fishing times but nevermind. My question is how fast do you retrieve minnows, I did it really slow (slower than in this video) but is that good or should I do it little bit faster?

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  6 років тому +1

      I like to change up the speeds to figure out what is working on that particular day. Somedays they like it moving faster and other days they like it slower. Just depends what kind of mood the fish are in!

    They only way you could do it wrong...is to fail to open the box. heh. I also recommend the Ima Sasuke 120. Pretty much the same action/swim depth. Very slow floating vs suspending, but that doesn't make any difference. And what sets it apart from the flash minnow is how much better it casts.(weight transfer like sp minnow). It swims a little deeper, which will cause it to dig into sand sometimes, but not often. Also use a Yozuri Mag Minnow with success from time to time. 3 1/2" one.

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  6 років тому

      Thanks for the tip, I might have to give those a try next! I'm starting to get addicted to plugging the surf, especially now that I am having success with perch and striper! Hopefully a video to come!

    • @ChiefToad
      @ChiefToad 6 років тому

      Feeling that big hit on a plug, or better yet seeing a big fish stalking and then exploding on a top water is just plain great. Addictive indeed. There is also the Ima Komomo ii 90 or 110. That is similar as well. Very shallow running and only has 2 larger hooks rather than 3. Needs calmer conditions.

I don't see any need for any more than 12-14 lbs unless you're worried about getting caught on a boiler rock or other structure. If its heavy seaweed then I wouldn't even fish the LC. 40 lb will surely affect the action of the LC or any similar lure.

    Try reducing the hook size. Also, look into some "long thin" type lures. Dont get caught up on brands. save yourself a ton of money and shop around - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Floating-Diving-Plug-Minnow-Lure-Hard-Bait-Crank-Bait-Fishing-Tackle-10cm-11-5g/172621185995?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
    Edit: Forgot to say that if you're gonna use lures with trebles then get yourself a cheap pair of long nosed pliers. Ironically, my ones that cost me just a few bucks have so far lasted around 3 times longer than my buddies ones which cost him nearly $100 (idiot!), because he lost his first pair and has just replaced them with equally expensive ones. I bought mine from a cheap DIY store back in the 90's, give them an odd spray with WD40 and they are still going strong enough for my fishing!!

      Thanks for the tips! I will definitely be testing out some different lures in the surf to see if there are some cheaper ones that are equally effective. Stay tuned!

    Hey man - I’m coming from the East Bay on Thursday and Friday to do some surf fishing. Do you have any pointers on where to go? I don’t mind some driving, so any recommendations are appreciated. You can email me at jeff@mtbpics.net if you don’t want to comment here. Thanks a million!

      I am not sure where you are staying but there are plenty of beaches up and down the coast that are good for surf fishing. Any sandy beach will have surfperch and you might get lucky with a striper!

    How to make an informative video: First tell us what you are going to say (or do), then say it (or do it) and last, say what it was you said, or did. After all that, where did you say exactly WHICH "Lucky Craft Flash Minnow" (there are about 50 styles between the Japan models alone) you are using ? I count 15 different "Sardine" types on LC's site (in just one size). Floating ? Suspending ? Sinking ?"F" or "FW" ? I got so frustrated, I missed you (perhaps somewhere in your video) even stating the size, or the weight. Very uninformative video.
