    We are not vegan, our dog is not vegan. While I appreciate the vegan lifestyle for ecological reasons, I personally feel good when I have quality sourced meat in my diet. The reason you don't see us eat meat in many of our videos is we do not have a fridge, only a cooler. If we're going to cook meat we have to buy it and eat it the same day. I have a few videos where I make delicious meals of meat. This all being said, I follow Michael Pollan's "diet" guidelines: "Eat food/ mostly plants/ not too much". I eat real, whole foods, mostly fruits and vegetables and in moderate quantities.

      No you don’t have to cook and eat meat the same day it will keep for a few days in a cooler with ice or outside in winter and much longer if you vacume pack it. Same when cooked.

    love your vids,lovely folk.i lived 3 years in a 20ft caravan,it was 30 years old when i moved in,no running water,bathroom or heating.minus 10 was so cold the calor gas i had hooked up to my cooker froze,lord knows how,but it was outside,the gas in my indoor heater also froze,i had to go into work on my day off to borrow some electric heaters to thaw out the van,but i loved every minute,i had a 1/4acre plot,with a stream at the bottom,and loved to just make some tea,eat my bacon sandwich and watch all the birds,cows and sheep get on with life as i sat next to my fire pit,a great life.i'm 52 now and not as tough as i used to be but it was a great life,good luck to you and your family.much love from the UK.

    My best memories are when my now ex-husband and two dogs lived in a truck camper for 1.5 years. 6 months of that was during one of the worst winters in Idaho history. Decades later, I am moving into a van full time but this time I'm headed to the southwest. Good times! It's interesting how people naturally gravitate to enjoying processing wood and taking up a creative hobby that there is no time for in city life. Great job!

    Your video will be the last I'll watch this evening. I just don't think it could get better from here. To be honest I passed on your videos a couple of times because why watch something so out of style when there are so many sprinters to rush through. Yet with your censerity, honesty and pleasantly easy style I didn't want to hurry along at all, just stay right where I was and that was just good enough. I loved your music as it took me back to my younger days when a sweet calmness could be had simply by getting away to a hilltop or a open valley on a weekend. You portrayed the cleansing benefits of non-attachment and focused on those qualities that we used to relate to long ago by showing us that with the right inspiration and mutual determination they still can be achieved. Thanks so much and happy trails to you both. Balaji

      @@sisterspooky If you're not using enamel coated cast iron, then you have to season it and never wash it with soap, otherwise you'll take off the protective seasoned coating and it will rust. You season it by coating it with fat, or oil then heating it until dry. They did the oil coating but should have left it on the heat longer to cook dry instead of putting it away wet which isn't quite right, so you're correct about that. Scrubbing it with very hot nearly boiling water was fine as far as cleaning goes. Any bacteria that can survive that will laugh at luke warm water and soap. Sadly the cleaning was ruined with the improper seasoning. That being said.......they aren't in the food industry. They won't be suing themselves if they get sick AND.......if you don't live a totally sterile life your immune system will be more than strong enough to handle it. Living a sterile life actually makes you more likely to get sick.

    For single-pane windows in real cold you can make them a lot more insulating by adding a layer of bubble wrap to the inside. It does cloud up the view, but adds a lot more R value to your single layer of glass. A strip of plastic skirting all around your trailer between trailer and the ground will make the floor feel warmer. If it is clear poly tarp going all the way over the roof blocks a lot of wind and can make it like having your camper inside a greenhouse on sunny days.

    I have some experience living in a 5th wheel trailer year round while working in northern Canada. It would help considerably with keeping your home warmer if you could find a way to skirt it in around the bottom. Either using tarps, plywood or hay bales etc. Also get some foil bubble wrap type insulation like people put on their hot water tanks, found at most hardware stores and a roll of tape to cover your windows, it will also make a significant difference in keeping the heat in and the frost out. Hope this helps.

      I've lived in a van for 8 years I don't think the foil bubble wrap is very good at all but, I do construction and there is a foam cloth that is extremely good it goes from 16th of an inch thick to I don't know what it's it's foam but it's like a cloth the thin stuff is like tissue paper the thicker stuff is almost like a board. It was just packing material garbage and I got two big bags of it. I have quarter inch of it on the roof held down with plastic folded up to store things under and it makes an incredible difference you can glue it to the windows as well on the outside it's kind of like Shoji panels

    I lived in a mobile RV trailer, in a wooded area in Mid-TN for four years. My kitchen floor would be covered with ice, many mornings. Haha!!! I would have to put salt on my kitchen floor to melt the ice. Haha!!! My cat would look up at me as he tried to walk across the ice covered floor. Great memories!!! My canned goods would freeze as well as they were stacked in my kitchen cabinets. I miss those days despite all of the survival technics I had to employ, on a daily basis!

    Im jealous of you guys. If the scamp was originally designed with more insulation that stove would be running you out of there as it would be too hot inside. Even though it's 3 degrees outside; there's just hardly any insulation in the scamp. I feel for you both; however you 3 are making the most of it. Which is what life is all about anyways. Making the most of your situation; getting the most out of each day and from what I am seeing you all seem to be doing just that. What more could one ask for ? Im so proud of you both; such very wise and smart young people; makes me upset at my generation for leaving this world in the shape it is in. Thanks for sharing your journey with us ! Sell some of those kitting projects, I'm sure there are lots of people that would buy them. Maybe even Elsa Rhae's Cookbook too !

    • @evopwrmods
      @evopwrmods 5 років тому +7

      @@ElsaRhae maybe if you have the headroom buy some 4x8 foot sheet of 1/2 to 3/4 inch foam sheet insulation{pink/blue}. Cut it to fit the floor layout and then lay it down on top of the floor. Its super cheap stuff; for the winter jus lay your rugs on top of the foam and throw it away later on after winter is over with. just a thought. It would help out big time im sure. I really like these scamps; but they aren't designed for extreme cold temps. But there are always ways to make it work. love you guys attitude and channel. You're my favorite Nomads..lol..

      @@ElsaRhae come spring or maybe if you have a friend that has a garage they can heat up just buy some cans of spray foam and spray the bottom of the Scamp... You might even be able to find somebody that would spray foam it for you for like a hundred bucks cuz it's such a small area... And or you can use the spray foam and cut some foam sheets 2 size before hand and then spray the foam around the edges and then put the foam sheets in there and that will keep it intact and if you want a little bit of extra security just find some what they call Muffler strapping which is really cheap in a roll and after you put the foam sheets in there you can just strap it in with the metal strapping was small sheet metal screws into your frame that way you don't have to worry about it falling out or coming that way that way you don't have to worry about the shooting coming off... Again it's such a small area you could probably get the 3in thick sheeting you probably only need two

      @24barron 5 років тому +4

      We haven’t put floor insulation in to maximize headroom. Every inch of headroom matters greatly to me. I think the external insulation is the way. I would like to reinforce the frame first thigh. Want to make this thing bomb proof before covering up the bottom. Ideally I’d like to replace the wood flooring with some kind of composite as well. And a new axle would be a good idea. Having decent suspension on the scamp would decrease wear greatly. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    It looks like your chimney is maybe building creosote from the black ring so far down on the side. Especially burning pine, and you have to have one of those wood stove thermometers to stay in the non creosote range all the time as best you can. Just check your chimney visually twice a week I'd say, more if there is a problem.

    Great life! We have a chinked log cabin in the wood south of Lake Superior . Before we built the cabin we pitched a tent with a stove jack in January. 3 foot snow base under us. Cozy until morning when it dropped to 18 degrees F inside. When I went outside it was 4F and there was new foot of snow. Snowshoes cut wood and made great meals over a fire for a few days. Loved hearing the wolves at night. We still heat our cabin with a wood stove. We do have electric and indoor plumbing now. Can’t wait to retire their.

Once surgery and chemo was done she was told not to do soy as it increases estrogen levels which then can cause breast cancer. Am glad to see that you do not do soy at least i have not seen that. I think more education is needed about this. So am sharing it here and now!! Thx for your videos. Luv them.

      Yes, for some reason there seems to be an agenda in the USA to promote soy products. It’s kind of like the fat-free and pro-dairy fads in the 90s. Health information is always changing with newer research. Soy doesn’t seem right for me so I avoid it! I hope your niece is doing well now. Take care!

This information was given by another youtuber who has extensive knowledge in outback training and was given specifically for the use of a small wood burning stove in a closed environment such as a trailer.
