My regulator system just arrived last week from the Ontario store you mentioned in your other video. I just purchased my CO2 tank today, and dropped it off to be filled. Will be carbonating shortly. Thank you for your beautifully done videos that removed all the mysteries around carbonation. Love your ideas in this video!
Cheers! I have already tried using the different bitters that I have! Fee brother’s Aztec Chocolate Bitters has a cola flavor and works perfectly with sparkling water!
After watching these C02 carbonation videos, I too have joined the effervescent lifestyle :) My local beverage gas supplier fills a 10lb tank for $24 which is around the same as a tiny Soda Steam tank. Now I have enough to last me an entire year! Very informative and helpful videos, thank you.
I got one of these systems last year and have made a liter almost every day! My favorite thing to carbonate other than just plain water was the occasional fruity and hibiscus tea. It has a kombucha-like flavor without the complex brewing process. Using bitters was a great suggestion. Going to try that! I was making my own flavor extractions and I just didn't have good results but bitters is going to do the trick I think
finally kicked alcohol and trying to get into this stuff. since then, (feb) the new pipeline has been pop > diet > zevia & la croix. here's to making new creations and getting excited about what i drink... without the alcohol and artificial stuff. hope my next 30 years are much healthier as a result. thanks nadia & rob.
Wow, Congratulations on a major life accomplishment! We're honored to be a small part of your new healthier life. Thank you for sharing your journey, and keep going!
I came upon your channel this weekend as I researched CO2 We are just not wanting to get trapped In Subscription plans on bottle exchanges etc We found a source for our CO2 🎉locally Next THIS was my next assignment FLAVOR that wasn’t loaded with sugar THANK YOU
Love these videos, and I hope to experiment soon! Since I’ve never tinkered with carbonating or any contents under pressure, what are the safety precautions to keep in mind?
The only safety issue we’ve experienced is if you twist the carbonation cap off too fast it can become a Champaign cork and want to fly across the room. Just release the pressure slowly as you open the bottle. This is most important if there’s less liquid and more co2 in the bottle….. it takes a minute for all the pressure to release. Other than that we haven’t had any issues, and neither of us had dealt with anything under pressure either. Hope that helps!
Thank you i've been looking towards buying a carbonation system and was thinking about the Drinkmate or Sparkle systems since they let you any drink, but they just seemed poor quality. This is more like what I am looking for. Thank you so much.
I have been like millions of Americans addicted to pop as long as I can remember , Love the flavor and carbonation but hate the amount of sugar in sodas. All the substitutes without sugar on the market taste horrible. This opens up new doors for me thankyou!
Damn i really regret buying a soda stream now. I already purchased a 4.5kg c02 tank to get out of their system, but i really should have looked up this stuff first!!
Yeah, brilliant, inspiring. I have all this gear from Kegland for homebrewing, but this is so fascinating. Looks like I’ll be doing some experimenting too haha. Cheers
My honest favorites have been crystal light pink lemonade, and any of the zero sugar flavor packets, i go to the dollar store, and check out the different flavors lol
This is SOOO in my wheelhouse! I’ve got two CO2 tanks for off-roading (to inflate aired down tires), but what a great dual use idea, since I buy cases and cases of fizzy waters. One of the ingredients in standard unsweetened waters is referred to as “natural flavors” or “essence”. I looked up both to find that it some of the flavors are derived from beavers. They have a gland that produces a secretion that is used for these flavors. My wife calls it Beaver Butt Juice. So I’d like to try what’s being presented in this video!! Fantastic info!!
@@NadiaandRob Thank you so much. I can't wait to tell the wife when she gets home. The cocktails and coffee drinks also sound amazing. I'll check out the gear to make this happen. Quite tired of opening and crushing aluminum cans just for a beaver butt juice addiction. Who the hell came up with that as an FDA approved additive in the first place? Sheesh!
Bought my own setup after watching this series. My wife laughs at me because I've been carbonating everything I can get my hands on 😄 By the way, the Cardamom is weirdly delicious.
Ya we’ve also been carbonating anything we can get our hands on lol. Glad you liked the cardamom butters! We can’t recall what inspired us to try it in the first place. What a pleasant discovery!
Have you ever considered getting a ball lock keg? They make some that are pretty and they have a top that you can remove so you could get things in and out in a reusable way.
You do a great job! Too many videos from others where they show you something, you want them to just be quiet and get on with it. You get a pass however. Listening to you is casual and relaxing, and you don't waste time on useless talk. You should have far more than 5,000 subscribers.
Howdy. We saw your vids and now have a similar system. I've taken it a step further, though. We bought a bottle capper. ( it puts/seals bottle caps on appropriate glass bottles, that is on 1's that had caps on them originally. ) It was less the $20, & came with about 150 caps. ( more can be purchased as needed). I mix a batch, fill the bottles, cap them, & they last longer than plastic bottles with screw on lids.( not certain how long. I've only started doing it 3 weeks ago. However, the 1st 1 I did was good as new after 3 weeks). 😅 Though you have to mix it up in an appropriate plastic bottle. Just a heads up. Enjoy. 😊 Edit: still carbonated after 5 months. 😉
You might consider getting a corny keg, at minimum could help you carbonate much more at once and then bottle fill from it, either directly from a tap or cobra tap, or go full on and build a soda water kegerator, you can make them continuously refilling and always have it available.
I was looking for this exact solution! Want to use glass bottles and bottle caps for my pasteurized rice wine but want to add some carbonation first in a controlled way.
We are ECOBLUE FARMS / Perdetsa and Rob 😂 one of our specialties is being COFFEE ROASTERS ❤ We love your channel and are super excited to get our CO2 setup and try these recipes and experiment on our own 🎉🎉
Thanks for all the info! Waiting on my carb kit .. starting making ginger bug years ago, but never got it used quick enough, so had too much fermenting. But enjoyed the tasted. So moved on to just lemon ginger syrup in bottled soda water. Keep the great information So my question, have you used glass bottles for storage ?
I haven't, since I don't have a big supply of glass bottles. But you could certainly make your carbonated drinks, then transfer them to a glass bottle and seal the tightly to maintain the carbonation. Glad you enjoyed the video!
11:58 You have the most informative views on this subject. I just got my new set-up and am really enjoying. I was thinking of carbonating ginger tea as I like the ginger ale and (non alcohol) ginger beer. Have you tried that or do you have any suggestions in that regard? Also the Rooibos tea could you just make the tea with tea bags and then chill or is the cold brew much better? I would also like to mention that I have had a hard time swallowing food and notice that drinking sparkling water makes it easier and better for digestion. After I discovered that I found some doctors on UA-cam actually promote drinking sparkling water.
Hi Paulbrown, Glad you are having fun with your carbonation set-up. I haven't tried any ginger drinks, but they should be great... let us know what you find. We prefer the cold brewed teas and coffee, as the cold process makes a less bitter flavor, especially when cooled. I also have some swallowing difficulties (achalasia) and the carbonated drinks do seem to help. Have fun experimenting!
Contrary to popular belief, even Fee Brothers bitters DO contain alcohol anywhere from 1.3 - 45.9% (for Lemon Bitters) ABV. You're correct that bitters are usually used in in dashes; therefore, at the end if it was mixed with water, over-all ABV is lower and you may not even taste the alcohol, but for someone very sensitive to alcohol, he/she will feel it afterwords.
Hi Rob and thanks so much for the great series. As a result of my finding your site, Ive solved the issue of carbonated water and bevs for our custom van build where space is at a premium and getting Sodastream canisters makes less sense. Ive made a nice setup. Doing lots of carbonated water for my afternoon cocktail. Also recarbonateing beer that Ive not finished. My current dilemma is that beer has worked its way up the hose after a few shots. I cleaned it out by taking the hose off and cleaning with water. Do you have any suggestions for keeping the liquid out of the hose? Thanks...Ernie in Vermont
Hi Ernie, so glad you've enjoyed these videos! The trick to prevent backflow is to keep the hose higher than the bottle... and don't invert the bottle. Arrange the hose so it flows down to the bottle. Then don't raise and invert the bottle when shaking. This will prevent the beer from flowing up the hose. Happy sparkling!
I just set myself up with one of these thanks to you. My first time using it though I noticed some of the liquid from the bottle would leak into the tube when I did your shaking technique. Is that normal? If not, how do I prevent it? If so, how often should I clean it out?
If you keep the bottle upright when you shake it this will prevent water flowing into the tube. It’s nothing to worry about since any water in the tube will get blown out next time you carbonate.
I have another question for you. In your video you put the bitters in a poured glass of carbonated water, do you not recommend not putting the bitters in. litre bottle before carbonating the water?
If you add the bitters before carbonation it may cause a lot of foaming. Also we prefer to flavour one glass at a time so we can choose a flavour for each glass
My first thought would be to try some of the non alcoholic wines that are now available. Also, the www.seedlipdrinks.com might be interesting to experiment with.. enjoy!
There should be a CO2 refiller in your locality bec co2 is used in beer, soda, and welding. Just be certain the refiller will use food/beverage grade of CO2
I am buying the setup you have and I was wondering if I should get the pressure regulator that provided higher than 60 PSI. I see some that provide up to 120 PSI. Would I need any higher than 60 PSI ? Would 60 PSI provide the optimum carbonation ? Is supplying the plastic bottle with a pressure higher than 60 safe? How high of a pressure is safe ?
I believe the 60 PSI valve is best suited for this. I don't know the maximum safe pressure with the soda bottles, but 60 PSI is no problem. Go higher at your own risk.

Carbonated coffee is so odd to me. The carbonic acid throws coffee flavors off I think.
The CO2 (actually the carbonic acid created by CO2) does shift the flavor of the coffee, but we like the little sharpness. Totally personal taste.

No, Bitters are extracts from the botanicals or flavor items. I believe most are natural flavors.
