    I enjoyed Rogue One for its choice of characters and the way they did their story. These are no Jedi, these are no overpowered bounty hunters or some other bs that needs plot armor. These are hard working soldiers, they get their hands dirty on the battlefield and win and lose some on the way to victory. This movie shows losses from both sides, the battles make sense, they aren’t to one sided and the sacrifices made are necessary. There is no “happy ending” in this film and that makes it unique, no war is without losses, struggles or sacrifices and Rogue One understands this. By far one of the greatest Star Wars films from Disney

      Only wrong thing is, the physics is a lil bit off. Such a crash should kill everyone on board except those 2 pilots, just smashing them against front walls everywhere. Humans simply don´t have grip strong enough to prevent that from happening. It´s the same as if you crashed a car while not strapped with seat belts, but several times stronger. That´s also why most of the ships in almost any sci-fi universe don´t make sense, there are always some big and bigger corridors, created mostly for scenarios and not actual real utility.

    What I love about the Battle of Scarif is how much of a make it or break it moment it is for the Rebellion. Despite the fact that we know they managed to get the plans long before the climax, none of that knowledge takes away from the tension of this mission. Because there was literally no turning back or second chances for the Rebels at this point in time. Before the Battle of Yavin 4 the Rebel Alliance was on the brink of collapse. But the destruction of Alderaan, and the Death Star's destruction later on, gave those that opposed the Empire the true rallying cry they needed to get their second wind for the future conflicts.

      It is dead, but that doesn't mean the new canon can't grave-rob it to improve its standing.
      Really, anything good from the new canon is just stuff they nicked from the original canon.......

I would have been about 9 at the time when I saw it in the theater. This scene actually gave me the same feeling when I saw it as well. Your editing really nailed the nostalgia for me here. great stuff.

    Why is this coming up in my feed now? Nonetheless, it's a fantastic exercise in seeing the power of music in film. It really does change the tone of the scene. While the movie as a whole is fairly gritty and sombre, William's score here definitely makes it feel like the tides are turning for the Rebels and would potentially make their losses that happen later feel much more impactful. Well done on this edit!

    • @animals2394
      @animals2394 7 років тому +189

      Just because they have a lot of cannons doesn't mean they could have "annihilated" those Y-Wings. It's very hard to hit small fighters with huge cannons build to attack other capital ships. Same in Episode 4 when the Rebels attacked the first death star, and an imperial officer said that the ships were so small that they couldn't hit them with the huge turbolasers. So no, it isn't because of plot armor.

    • @flybeep1661
      @flybeep1661 6 років тому

      Bombastic? Obviously you don't know the meaning of that word. The music in that part is a fast building staccato of woodwind and strngs with some brass for building tension (the brass coming in on the release of tension). Usually bombastic is heavy percussion with a massive brass section all playing full on, THAT'S what's usually referred to as "bombastic" in orchestral type music. Btw, the music here is taken from Return of the Jedi space battle which is kinda the same (even in purpose) so your argument really doesn't make sense.

    This scene was awesome in the movie. But ever since day one I felt the alarm sound inside the star destroyer was missing - the one you hear in Episode V when two destroyers, about to crash into each other while chasing the Millennium Falcon, engage their evasive manoeuvres. Maple Films seems to have noticed that too, as they finally included that alarm sound into this scene.

      not in terms of numbers .. but ep III battle felt caotic ..and it just was left "unresolved" .. the heroes come down to Coruscant and thats it.. you never found how the battle ended (the separatist fleet was pulling out ..but you would never know unless reading the novel and stuff)

    • @thitran1362
      @thitran1362 7 років тому +3

      Because Coruscant battle was only the background battle not the main part of the film. Plus the battle was indeed literally chaotic due to the fact that it was a surprise attack and all Separatist and Republic ships a jumped to Coruscant to join the battle thus creating a mess.

      to be fair this was probably necessary to avoid friendly fire. by being close you avoid having firing arcs that could lead to friendly fire (for example if a bomber decided to sit right between both ships).
      it probably also reduced the strain on the tie fighters. the rebellions strength lies predominantly in their fighters. mon calamari capital ships were exceptionally good at taking fire, but were ultimately unable to hold their own against star destroyers. having your star destroyers close to each other means your available tie fighters were able to keep a tighter/denser defense cordon around them than by having two seperate defense spheres

    I heard somewhere that due to the constant re-shoots and production problems that Rogue One had, Michael Giacchino had far less time to compose a score than is typically given. Which is noticeable. I'm a big Giacchino fan, but his score for Rogue One (while by no means bad) doesn't stand up to his other work

    • @MapleFilms
      @MapleFilms  7 років тому +29

      Yes, originally Alexandre Desplat was the composer for Rogue One. They even had early posters with his name still in the credits. It wasn't until the reshoots that his score was jettisoned and Giacchino was brought on. However, he only had 3-4 weeks to write and record everything. So I don't blame him for how the score turned out- he should get another shot at a Star Wars film.
