Rogue one III VI I IV I didn't watch Solo, but the battle didn't look too interesting. II and V also didn't really have any epic space battles. Clone wars of course also had a lot of epic space battles. The 3 new films... really didn't. Starkiller Base was an okay battle (though also not really in space). The last jedi was basically a 2 hour space battle in which absolutely nothing happened. The bomber scene was embarrassing and in the last movie we saw the massive fleet, but they didn't play any role.
The battle scenes are even organized by movie timeline. YOU are an absolute beast. Only a true Star Wars fan would go through the effort of putting them all in order
I saw it in the cinema age 12, in 1983. After that I was in love with Star Wars. Disappointed there wasn't another Star Wars movie after that - until 1999.
It’s a shame people don’t appreciate it as much as they do the scenes in the originals especially since it’s a waaaay more critical battle than coruscant
Does make the ep4 New Hope Death Star attack look really poor, only 6 years later but they improved so much.. no insult meant to ep4 it was so far ahead of its time in 77.. just can't unsee certain things
Back in the day you couldn't just backskip 10 seconds or 30 seconds, you had to wait for the movie to end to watch it again and see the things you didn't the first time lol
Seeing Vader's destroyer hyper jump straight into the midst of the escaping rebel fleet and just unleashing hell upon them has got to be one of the greatest space battle scenes of all time
What makes it so badass is that Vaders crew just obliterates the last of the fleet while the battle before was a tug of war. Goes to show what Akbar meant in Episode 6 about not lasting long against the Star Destroyers at point blank range
@@BOATIE141 yeah, their firepower is unmatched by any capital ship the rebel alliance has (and somehow the millennium falcon tanked several full on turbolaser shots from the literal same star destroyer lol *PLOT ARMOUR*)
The Battle of Scariff is just plain amazing. Everything about it from the Starfighter dogfights and tight formations of the bombers to make sure they have time to break formation to land decisive blows on the shield and the cruisers working to keep the big Star Destroyers in bay. Not to mention the stunning music to make up an amazing space battle!!! Not like any of Rian's idea of space fight with his stupid electromagnetic bombers
First time I have realized at the Battle of Scarif that the hammerhead kept pushing the star destroyer all the way into the shield, ultimately sacrificing themselves. Makes that scene even more powerful. Roque one was such a good movie.
Just remember... EVERY character created for this film had to bite the dust (it was actually a condition of the writers creative licence) one way or another, but one of them later was remembered, when the MC cruiser in TLJ (the one with the prototype shields Holdo infamously used as a weapon) was named after Raddus....
I dont care what anyone says about the venator class star destroyers, but they are easily the most aesthetically pleasing thing to see in space battles. That opening of episode 3 is still one of the best openings to star wars.
I love how they look like the step before the imperial star destroyer. The aesthetics of the ships feel so on point in the prequels. I can believe that in 19 years, the ships have evolved into what we see in New Hope
All models, no computers. I think for a while the part where the falcon flies through all those TIEs was the most complicated special effects ever done. Imagine filming each model separately. Getting the camera positions right so it all matches up and getting the lighting to match on all the models. That was a piece of art. I’m not a CGI hater btw if it’s done well, whatever it takes to get the job done I say, but those guys back then had some serious skills.
I always thought it was interesting how my favorite SW film of all time, Empire Strikes Back, breaks formula and doesn't have a giant space battle not only in it's climax but any where at all in the movie.
Doug Chiang, it was his first time as the design director for Lucasfilms. He worked on several projects before that, including The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels(1996).
Scariff is probably my favorite Space battle in all of fiction. It is not too bloated, the stakes and goals for each side are clear and even when the movie cuts to the ground for a few scenes, the combat proceedings are always instantly clear once you're back in space.

If there's one thing that has consistently improved throughout Star Wars, it's the space battles. I'm sure the Original Trilogy space battles were revolutionary for their time but today there's only a still or two that actually looks good in A New Hope (though I have to admit, a lot of Empire Strikes Back's battle with the Death Star II looks pretty good!). Even the first Prequels movie knocks the best space battle scene of the best Original Trilogy movie out of the water with atmosphere and camera usage. The Prequels were really kings of space battles, with the RotS sequence being unmatched.. until Rogue One came out of course, and knocked it out of the park. The Battle of Scarif combined the glorious visual quality of the Sequels, the improved camera usage of the Prequels, the realistic and immersing fleet structuring of Clone Wars, and the interior cockpit shots and acting quality of the Original Trilogy to make the best Star Wars thing ever put to film. Practically nothing comes close. While the Sequels LOOK much better and cleaner (and Rogue One uses this quality nicely), with great use of camera angles and lighting and composition, the corporate-y overreliance on Rule of Cool in terms of luck and coincidence really feels like it ruins them.. and makes them uncool, somehow. Of course, you didn't include them, so we have no frame of reference really to how much it ruined them, but I remember being in awe at how cool the X-wings sending rooster tails over the water was in their intro scene, and then disappointed as they just got lucky shot after lucky shot after lucky shot instead of being a true battle. And then that happened time and time again. Love this, thank you for compiling it!
Sorry for the late reply. Great comment and true. The space battles have gotten better over the years. Of course, the technology has a lot to do with it, but I also think we expect each movi to up its game,
The return of the Jedi Final fight in my opinion was the best space fight in Star Wars because at the time that was amazing the visual effects and the action

@@gilleslesauvage3217 Maybe try watching a video OTHER THAN "Space Battles Only," since land battles and lightsabers are seldom found in "Space battles only"?
This shows me just how much dialogue is necessary for an audience to follow a battle. About once every minute and a half you need to cut to a commander giving orders or a subordinate relaying information. Without those cuts, most people won't follow the swings in camera location and target unless highlighted by the dialogue.
In rogue one when that blue squadron pilot destroyed the shield gate it actually lines up perfectly. In the actual movie he says “come on!” And destroys it but without it it lines up even better.

I've been imagined flying an X-wing fighting TIE fighters and some star Destroyers and it's great watching
This is the way.
@@StarWarsJay what's the way?
@@Krausecrew you not seen The Mandalorian yet?
@@StarWarsJay in the movie or something?
@@Krausecrew nah man, the tv series.
"impresive...phhh,most impresive..." :)
thank you. :)
Love how you edited in the set-ups for the battles, must have taken quite a while 👍
nice editing with the music.
I'm glad you like it
The Battle of Coruscant is pretty cool for how much is going on but Return of the Jedi I think might still have it topped. There is still something just better about the use of models over full CGI. I guess they just feel more substantial.
The only Star Wars ❤
Rogue one, the only sequel that looks, sounds and feel like the original trilogy
1:48 I remember hearing that for the first time in cinemas...the whole theater shook the sound was unreal lmao
I don’t even need to click the time stamp. I know exactly the sound you mean.
All I want to see in Star Wars is more broadside cruiser battles
Ive been waiting for this for twenty years!
Awesome work! 👍
Cheers bro!
Hey mate. Sorry I haven’t replied to your mail yet. Been working. I haven’t forgot. I’ll reply later today. Cheers bro.
No worries! 🙂
I love this vids, I’ve been trying to find the videos with all the space battle but this is the right and best one I seen, great video!
@@Monkeynuts2.0 thank you!
It's an AWESOME feature of this video that you didn't include the "sequels" which are anti-SW in every meaningful way. Whether intentional, or not, their absence was joyous! Thanks!
It was intentional 😅 Thanks for watching.
@@StarWarsJay You rule! The soy-shooting, pants-staining fanthings THINK they are fans of "Star Wars," but they are not. A TRUE fan doesn't pretend that objectively bad entries are somehow good. They are fans of being fans... and of pushing woke garbage into our eye and ear holes. 🤮
Awesome clip. Brilliant edit, thank you. Empire still does it for me!
thank you
Seismic charges
I thought it was done very well. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to put this all together.
Glad you enjoyed it! Messages like this make me want to make more videos. Thanks mate.
These scenes are so damn beautiful!
The space battles are what made me love the movies as a kid. Star Wars without them (or done badly) isn’t Star Wars IMO.
I've been waiting for someone to do this
Thank you kindly Cannon. I’ve recently done a ground battles version if you’re interested. There you go…ua-cam.com/video/e_lT0XIBSDA/v-deo.html
@@StarWarsJay thanks
@@cannonzen712 all good mate.
This is great!
Cheers Dan!
Oh rogue One . . .of all the movies that dont matter, you didn't matter the most.
I liked Rogue One. It’s the only decent Star Wars movie since Disney took over in my opinion . Each to his own though. We all like what we like.
2:16 Slave I shooting is satisfying ngl
Did you see it shooting the speeder bike gang in bobf yesterday?
@@StarWarsJay no?
@@aku8354 watch the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett. I think you’ll like it.
