I bought my Z Fold 3 off ebay in 2022 for under $300 and it is basically in the same condition as the one Austin got. You got robbed, man.
Ye same but I got mine for a really low price of 189.99 and it was the last one he defo got robbed
Off a private seller or a company?
The thing with paying extra from these services is the benefits like a warranty/returns/etc. But its not really worth it if you know what your buying exactly
@@LubomirGeorgiev mine was from a private seller.
Technically he didn't get robbed, cuz he is doing this vid by his own will to pay for that Shady website
64 $, dude I would rather give it to a random on the streets who is rocking something older.
$62 is an insultingly low price for an s22
Facts
5 minutes in, the answer is yes, Gazelle are perhaps the worst excuse of "Refurbished Tech" I've seen in a while, charge you a premium for scuffed up devices in a ziplock bag in a cardboard box you could get at Staples for a dollar
well well lets not get ahead of ourselves here you can not get any of these phones for one whole dollar anywhere
There are far worse websites than Gazelle, personally i never had problems with them, got my iphone 11 at great deal, it just depend on you, getting the right thing & deal
@@alfredanto05one dollar for the boxes or the ziplock bags. not the phones lmao
Yeah I’d also check the serial numbers to make sure they are the right phones.
My drug dealer packs better than this shit. Damn robbers, Avoid that scam.
4:45 Literally a Scam. You can see other people’s experiences with Gazelle and they always say the exact same response. Same excuses on why their offer price dropped and that it’s not “unlocked”. It really seems like a copy paste response to everyone no matter the phones condition.
They undervalue what you sell and overvalue what you purchase. Backmarket and eBay are much better options.
No. If you put all cost together gazelle is way cheaper.
@@drueckglueck9918 LOL
@@drueckglueck9918you blind?
I don't trust Ebay
eBay is much better
What you didn’t realize is that the backmarket one is double the storage.
lol, how did austin miss that. Its clearly a scam price from gazelle
they scammed you, you should not sell the phone when they quoted less. you should ask for return and check your phone condition when it returns.
I bet this happens a lot. They already have your phone and betting you don't want it back.
@@Cool-Spotyep and I wonder if say you send your device in B condition, they say it's worth less with C condition, you accept then they go ahead and sell it as B
Yeah the company is betting on lazy people who don't want to have to send it back for $12 dollars. This company seems awful just like most companies.
I don’t know why he didn’t ask for the ‘locked’ phone back if he wasn’t sure, wouldn’t you ask for it back and see if they were lying about it being locked if you were making content on Gazelle’s business practises?
yep! had this happen to me. they said there was "image burns" on the screen. i declined their offer and got it back. and i took it to get checked and the phone repair guys said there is no image burn. So basically gazelle lied to underpay
Should've gotten the phones back and see if they added extra scratches or swapped the phones from unlocked to locked.
Exactly
I'm sure they didn't do that, too much work. They just lied and bet the person just accepts it
But Austin, that iphone xr from Gazelle was 64gb for more than that 128gb on backmarket.
yup, saw that too, went looking in the comments. Very badly priced phone from gazelle
The comment I was looking for 😅
I just bought one for like 160 bucks 128gb battery health 78percentage😀
Gazelle belongs to EcoATM... That's says it all! Everything is scam!
So now, you need to create a new persona and sell these devices back to them, in the "condition" that you purchased. When they inevitably lower their offer due to the devices not matching "your" evaluation, you can then call them out on their bullshit.
But as many others have said, I would not have accepted either offer and asked for my devices back.
Another video idea is to buy from gazelle and send the items back stating the exact condition you bought them in. See how much they offer and their true thoughts on the condition. That’ll show exactly how scammy they are
Should've sold the phones back to see if they valued them the same
Their trade in values make GameStop look generous. $50 for an S21? Even for a video I would've backed out of that deal.
What do you expect them to pay? You don't get market price for trade-in. And you can get an s21 for 160-170 easily unlocked.
The price difference that they will then sell it for has to cover a lot of things, and cover the risk that they don't sell it at all until it's either worth no more than they paid or even becomes dead stock that will never be bought.
Would never sell phones to places like this or Eco ATM.
Fact, ECO ATM gave me a quote for a Galaxy s22 4mo after that phone came out, and it was 91.00 in excellent condition. Nope.
Atleast with eco atm you can choose to get the money right away or get your item back right away. This place just sucks. Overpriced and they want to pay you less.
My friend used to sell cardboard iPhones to eco atm that was funny
My local mall used to had one. One time I checked how much it would take my Honor phone and confused it as a Sony Xperia one and asked $50 for it when I bought it for $200.
I only sell on eBay.
You shoulda emailed them back saying "there are more scratches than anticipated thus I'm requesting a $30 refund or prepaid label back"
gazelle has an easy return policy, so i definitely would return the iPhone XR.
Whoever does the studio design and lighting needs a raise.
Matt mentioned her name once on This Is but I forgot. She also hunts bigfoot
I sold my iPhone 4S to Gazelle back in 2013 and they ended up paying me more than what I was quoted. They were decent back in the day and was paid through PayPal and it was fairly quick.
Yeah. I did a similar thing back in the day. It was still a little less than If I sold it privately but still worth it.
so like a lot of companies started out with decent business practices, but i guess due to profit optimization and shareholder demands succumbed
to horribly exploitative business practices.
Start off good to get a better reputation, then nickel and dime everything to heck after a couple years.
Yeah when the store was on eBay they were okay but now is a different story.
Trade ins in perfect condition that had incredibly low prices to begin with, just to have them slashed even more on arrival. ZFold 3 with the screen protector removed, the screen itself in bad condition and the hinge sounding like it's been through JerryRig's hands. iPad mini that's 9 years old at the price of a 5 year old model. iPhone XR for 165$, but Backmarket has the same thing for 10$ cheaper, with double the memory AND a whole 1 year warranty. Google Pixel 7a branded "excellent condition" but it was noticeably scratched AND Google themselves sell it for cheaper. No Austin, Gazelle is a proper scam.
You should've asked for your trade ins to be returned and checked their condition. It would've been a lot better to see if Gazelle ACTUALLY takes care of your trade ins or if they just give you a terrible price for nothing.
IS GAZELLE A SCAM? @2:00 yes. thanks. moving on.
Not really a scam
$50 FOR AN S21 IS CRIMINALLLLLLL
I use to work for Gazelle couple years ago and all i did was grade phones based on how use able it is and heres another thing we were the only warehouse they used but ill say this everything there they overprice it and half of the phones arent always clear but they just send it anyways
You should sell them back to them and when they say that "excellent" pixel is actually good and they reduce your pay, you tell them the story.
I really thought he was gonna buy a bicycle
Yeah me too Gazelle is a dutch bicycle factory haha. I was wth does he need a bicycle for.
That scrape down the back is not worth $500. What the hell is going on.
I kind of wish you'd asked for the phones back to see if they were the same phones AND if the one was actually not unlocked.
Resellers markup stuff 100 to 150% normally
I remember checking Gazelle out waaaay back when they first launched and thinking that while it was a good idea, their prices were laughable.
Seems like that's still the case. I figure they would be more competitive with their prices but...nope.
I'm glad you make these types of videos. It's interesting to see how secondary sellers operate. Some better than others apparently. Thanks !
The Coral joke gave me a good chuckle
Thank you for you videos - I struggle daily to find peace at lunch. And this is my only out.
5:02 Love that product placement on the phone! Lol
I love these video's Austin. Making it easier for people to buy their refurbished tech from reviewed places.
Here in the UK we have a big issue with these scams where they adjust the price for BS reasons and get away with it because there's nothing illegal about it. The same happened to you.
Do marketplace next!
Future me, are they a scam?
Probably
why dont you watch the video instead of trying to be first to comment

Whoever edits the this is and Austin Evans videos must have great fun doing the audio balancing with Austin shouting so much 😂
Trade in is the biggest literal scam ever imo. I'd either sell it on FB market place or other 2nd hand site, or just throw the phone away, than letting these scammy sites/vendor getting phones.
Gazelle seems to be a rip off
Radio crackle has become SOMEone’s favorite sound in the studio
14:05 think again. That cheaper price is for twice the storage of what you got.
Austin, 14:00 the Iphone XR on BM is 128 gb. Yours was 64
I’ve honestly had good luck with eBay refurbished. I’ve bought several phones from them and they all came with one year warranties. Never had to use them but great to know I’m covered. Would love to see a video of you actually using the included one year warranty from places that offer it.
Tip - A good liquid adhesive screen protector will fill in that deep scratch.
Would love to see these traded back in where you select the option for the condition they sold them to you in. Wouldn’t surprise me if they say they are a grade lower.
Watched until the end, Austin how did you now know if your S21 was unlocked or not
omg finally someone doing an actual review on gazelle, i seen this ad on tiktok and was wondering if it was a scam or not
the iphone XR on back market was also double the storage of that on the gazelle one.
Grade A in the UK at least is usually defined as mint; no scratches, no scuffs--basically like brand new. Box will/may have been opened, all accessories and whatnot included. It could be something that someone bought and returned within a super short timespan.
Amazon's "Used - Like New" might fall under this too.
But that Pixel in this video--yeah, no way. That should've been a Grade B...and even I've had Grade B items that have been more so Grade A. Heck, I got a Grade B+ S23 FE recently from eBay, and the box was still sealed.
Austin is the most charismatic youtuber ever. Id gladly listen to him talk about anything
I personally prefer Ken, but Austin is good
Joanna makes these videos so much better
I had the same situation with Gazelle where my unlocked phone was flagged, then I ordered an unlocked phone - which was delivered locked.
Companies like gazelle would low ball you then proceed to sell your device that you sold to them for 150% over what they bought it for from you. Went to sell one of my x at a store near where I live and they told me that they’d buy it for 62 bucks where as on their website they sold that shut for like 180 bucks.
These companies (especially Gazelle) always lie and give you less money. I once tried to sell them a tablet and they came back to tell me that it's mic was broken. It never had a mic. That's how old it was. Even after I sent them the users guide from online to prove it had no mic, they still insisted that the mic (which didn't exist) was broken. I had them return my tablet and I sold it elsewhere. All these companies are a sham.
I used to sell to Gazelle years ago and they gave me very fair offers. But they started offering less and haven’t used them since.
Everyone wants to resell their old tech cause having it being used by a new owner is better than having it end up in a landfill, but the market is so messed up right now that you'll find old tech that should be just a shy of a $200 selling for more and it has no official support for their respective manufacturers so it makes no sense to buy something previously used in that case.
12:43 with that iPhone XR I think given that scratch anything scratch on the camera bump it was in someone’s pocket with their keys. I don’t know, but that’s my best guess
Gazelle's pricing and trade-in pricing is crazzyyy! For used phones, I prefer to use Swappa, good prices and actual photos of the product. Hopefully Austin can do a video on Swappa sometime.
A scam? Not really, but they waaaay undervalue when you send it in.
You know what might be a good idea with some of these sketchier used phone outlets? Buy one of the phones in "excellent" condition then trade it back and see if they ding you when you try to trade it in. Curious if their trade in grading is not the same as their selling grades.
I sent a MacBook in and got a decent price, but when I tried to sell my Galaxy Note 8, they told me that the display didn't function properly and minor scratches on the body. I asked for a recheck, but they had already shipped it back to me. I was so confused when they told me the screen didn't function properly because I knew they were wrong because that phone was always in a case.
You should do macofalltrades next!!
You had to try to sell their stuff back to them to see how they grade it, because that excellent they sent would mark it as good condition 100 percent
They buy your phones for less than a hundred bucks while their pricing is 2x the price of what you sell, truly a BS gazelle...
What im learning from just the first two devices, backmarket is a better deal
While no a scam, they heavily undervalued stuff they buy and overcharge what they sell. Bought a old iPhone 12 from them years ago and it was suppose to be excellent condition but they gave me a good condition phone. They worked with me to swap them out and it went smooth.
You could've said, you would turn into a Lion that would rip Gazelle to shreds on the savannah. 🤣🤣
Austin ignored that the one in Back Market iphone was the 128GB version and his Gazelle one was the 64 one. So it's still too expensive given the condition of the screen.
Nope. Selling foldable phones without the factory screen protector is enough of a reason to not purchase anything ever again from said seller.
If you purchased your device from att it does not automatically become unlocked even if you purchase it outright or complete your payments on it. You need to get them to unlock it
For around the price of that iPad mini you could get a Samsung S6 lite when it's on sale AND get a pen included
whats crazy at least in canada all samsung phones are unlocked when the plan is over also some don't even need to be paid off a plan
Would love to see you sell them back and see what conditions they say they are
All those "we buy your old electronics stuff" platforms are scam houses. Has always been like that, will always be like that.
Should’ve sold the bought phones back to them and see what they offer
With no extended warranty, you're way better off buying privately through ebay, where you'd have built in protections from scammy sellers like Gazelle, and arent paying the company's overhead.
Should sell it back and see if the grades remain the same or if they just make them up.
The moment I saw the Galaxy's ridiculously low trade in value, I got putoff really quick. Not because I'm behaving like the last bastion of Android, but the place that they straight up trashing Android like the whole Apple elitist mentality is a huge red flag for me. iPhones are fine, though.
I think the iPad Mini 4 price was in the LTE capabilities. That's 50 bucks by itself.
Also, the XR you saw on backmarket was 128 gb...
I sold them a Pixel 6 that was bought fully unlocked from the Google store with very little cosmetic damage and they said that it was a carrier locked phone with deep scratches. It's a huge scam
Should have sent back all the stuff you got to see if they would give you the same condition you bought it at
Do a video on Swappa?
I bet if you instantly try to sell all those back they will say they are one grade lower than what they sold to you just now. You should do a follow up.
What they should do is order the same device twice but one is in Excellent condition and the other is in Good condition. Then compare the 2 and see if it's worth the price
Great Video Austin ✌🏻👌🏻👍🏻💜💜💜
Best follow-up he could do is trade it in and see if they grade it at the same level when it was sold and if they say its not up the same grade tell them what he did and why are they selling it at that grade if they know its not.because i bet you they won't grade it at the same grade.
Regular zoom: Austin, looking good
2x Zoom: boy, you need a shave!
Also you should have seen how my MIG switch came in the mail. 😂😂 the packaging was so bad
I just bought an unlocked Z Fold 4 on FB marketplace, for $700 and it included a Galaxy Watch 5. Phone is in perfect condition and still has the plastic to peel around the device.
I never would've known about gazelle if not for tech tubers like Austin making these type of videos. We didn't need a webstore like that to exist, Ebay does the same. And cheaper.
that iphone price is garbage compared to the backmarket one, since the backmarket one is 128gb compared to only 64gb
Should do a video on “Back Market” just bought used 15’ 2017 MacBook Pro for $350. It’s an i7 7th gen model with an amd 560 dgpu. Condition was “Fair”. Aside from a dark spot on the lid from where a sticker used to be it was in excellent condition. Battery level was at 97%. They have everything Apple should really do a review on it.
You should try selling items you bought back to them at same condition, and see if they downgrade.
I have a zfold 5 and love it I started with the zfold 3 and that phone did not disappoint either
It's been the same phone all over the years, the Fold 6 won't be worth it, i'm switching from Samsung to Vivo X Fold 3 pro when it goes globally
Also - put both the phones you sold up on a local marketplace for 100-150 and they would sell fairly quickly. You only got payed for 1 phone - which basically fits in with their whole business model. HUGE scam! Don't use these sites!
I have the 6a since it came out and has less scuffs or scratches then that
Y'all should trade in the phones you bought and see if they'll try to knock off the value.
My dad bought me an iPhone SE 2 from Gazelle and it works well except for the battery, but I can get that replaced
You should've bought stuff and then, you should've sold the same things back. Then you could know what they are really paying us and how much they are keeping.
You could've also known if they give bad remarks and slash the price
My girlfriend just bought a used Pixel 7 for about the same price. Not 7A, 7. From what we can tell, the phone is in excellent condition.
It comes with a 3 month warranty, and we live in a country where the pixel line isn't even sold.
That Gazelle 7A was out to effing lunch
