*** Livestream update/Q&A on this eagle, March 27th 11am Utah time: ua-cam.com/video/WPX9U9l9w0o/v-deo.html This juvenile Bald Eagle arrived on July 26th after we were called by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The eagle was near his nesting area but not flying, skinny, and having difficulties. Upon initial examination, Martin noted that this was quite a rare "white belly" Bald Eagle. Usually, juvenile bald eagles are mostly brown, this one is unusually white. Because of poor nutrition however, the eagles feathers were in very bad shape. Though physically fine, the poor condition of the feathers made the bird unable to fly. The juvenile Bald Eagle first got a big meal and plenty of nutrients. For the first couple days, Martin fed the bird to make sure he got enough nutrients. After only a few days, the eagle was able to feed himself. Martin then moved the eagle to the large chamber with a young rehabilitating Golden Eagle. Most likely, this juvenile Bald Eagle will have to stay for a year or more until new feathers grow in properly. Such a long stay is also an expensive stay. Some mammals use slow blinking to signify non-aggression. Do the birds have a similar signal you can use, or are they wired to be in "back off" mode until they have gotten used to you?
Do the eat rabbits? Your cause is wonderful and I thank you for that. I used to raise butcher rabbits but had hard time getting rid of them. I’m thinking that the rabbits could me medicated for worms, mites and lice like rodents are done. Plus thinking that live rabbits will help retain their wild hunting behavior. Plus help them in ripping their kill apart. Small rodents they just swallow them up. Juvenile rabbit would give them more exercise and experience for when released back into the wild. Also have a question. I have 20 acres in southern Colorado high plains desert region. Can these birds be relocated or is it best that they’re not?

WOW!! What a blessing to be used by God to take care of His creatures. These videos lift my spirits in a world so bent on destroying the habitats of wildlife. I love how you talk to each of the animals as if they were your very own, it's very endearing. I am a wildlife photographer and I live in an apartment in Los Angeles. Every year I had the honor of having mourning doves nesting in a certain tree in our building. They'd stay until the baby or babies were old enough to fly on their own. My neighbors next door and I would warn each other to be careful when the babies sat on the stairs because they blended in so well with the concrete. However, unfortunately, one of the neighbors complained that she didn't like the birds being in the building. (strange part, they were nowhere near her apartment.) So, after years and years of watching this beautiful new beginning, she convinced the landlord that they were a bother and that the tree needed to be cut down, so they wouldn't come back and they haven't. It just broke our hearts that we wouldn't see them again. So as you can see, someone looking out for the animals makes my heart take flight. Thank you again for sharing, you have a beautiful gift with animals..
these videos are literally the coolest things Ive ever seen. A man and his lovely wife that understand the eagle and care for them in a true way suited to the benefit of the eagle, not as a pet. What a lovely American couple. Super cool
I love how these animals are absolutely deadly killers and can tear you apart with their talons, but as soon as you get a hold of their feet, they're like: 'okay I guess you got me, I will just chill here then'
You can see someone who is fulfilling purpose they live for what they do and with such passion. G-D must smile when He sees you working with these animals. G-D BLESS YOU AND YOUR WIFE.
@Andievo4U2 Yes, that practice is known as "biological control" so you don´t need to use poison and other harmful options. Domestic animals and man inclusive can be contaminated by poison and other artificial chemicals. Far better to use the natural link of the ecosystem´s food chain ...
Thanks for the Sub Steven! We're looking forward to this one's release too! So far, he's doing okay, We'll have some short video footage of him getting posted tomorrow.
You both have amazing hearts. I have loved eagles for years and I'm so glad to see that someone takes care of the undernourished and weak or sick. God bless you both and all of your volunteers!
@@GowildlifeOrg you're very welcome. Myself and my niece have fostered many, many animals and birds over the years and we have both actually been thinking about moving to Utah to help ya'll foster small animals. If you still need help, please let us know. We have both been told that we have a special gift with animals. We're not formally trained but we are definitely experienced with small animals. I also have a friend who is a master falconer. This is where I first became enamored with birds of prey. We are interested in learning more about them and so willing to learn. God bless you!!
I like that the eagles are released when food is available not just as soon as they are feeling better so they have a better chance of getting food in the wild and have a better chance at continued survival in the wild.
thank you for taking care of these magnificent raptors, i found a white arctic owl flying toward a roof top up in upper east side Manhattan. ran up to the roof and found him on floor against wall. i was glad nobody saw him and went to a friend i knew in building and got a baby blanket and found carboard box . i had no fear i gently walked up and it seems he wnted my help. h i wraapped him and he was upset at first but i looked straight at him and did bird acting like my king pigeon i found and talked and cooed and he gentled up. i called the bronx zoo and they sent people over to take him i kept in touch and the care takers kept in touch with me , i was happy they did, b/c i was falling in love with it, but knew it would be wrong to keep him, he was lost and mal nourished, he bounced back and i was told he would be sent back to his natural envirnment, it still boggles me how he came to east spanish Harlem and i found west about a mile in nj was the NJ wet lands and i saw two stalk like birds in east harlem flying straight toward the wet lands so maybe white arctic owls do have man encroachment probs and got sick from looking for a new place to live like in the wetlands, but that is just my thought.
When I was a kid I use to catch all kinds of wildlife. I caught Coppers Hawks Sparrow Hawks. Barn owls. Once I caught a barn owl and was so excited by the adventure. As I was walking home I looked down and my hand was covered in blood!!! The “talons” were so sharp I didn’t even feel it rip my hand open !!! 1973. LoL.
Thank you Martin for this compelling story and rescue. Do you think this young white belly juvie will be banded before you release him? You do amazing work - thank you Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah!
@@GowildlifeOrg Thank you for the reply Martin. Do you know how many white bellied BE there are? Will he retain the full white belly and white feathers under his wings as he matures?
@@ladyhawk, Hi to you Girlfriend, I had asked them before about the banding and was told that if a raptor was sent to them it was basically considered dead. 😢😢😢 But maybe Martin could have his own kind of band so that they can be identified as a rescue. Can bald eagle be trained to be a hunting companion, like golden eagles and hawks?
Some mammals use slow blinking to signify non-aggression. Do the birds have a similar signal you can use, or are they wired to be in "back off" mode until they have gotten used to you?
Does a mature white belly look like a typical bald eagle or do they retain their white undercarriage after full maturity?
Do the eat rabbits? Your cause is wonderful and I thank you for that. I used to raise butcher rabbits but had hard time getting rid of them. So, after years and years of watching this beautiful new beginning, she convinced the landlord that they were a bother and that the tree needed to be cut down, so they wouldn't come back and they haven't. It just broke our hearts that we wouldn't see them again. So as you can see, someone looking out for the animals makes my heart take flight. Thank you again for sharing, you have a beautiful gift with animals..
Sorry you lost that tree.
Amen!
these videos are literally the coolest things Ive ever seen. A man and his lovely wife that understand the eagle and care for them in a true way suited to the benefit of the eagle, not as a pet. What a lovely American couple. Super cool
Thank you Katrina, we appreciate your kind words. A whole lot of people help us help critters!
He is very striking, even in such distress. So glad you are there for them. A seemingly small, but truly huge and beautiful thing you do.
He is gorgeous, even without all his feathers.
Lol, I cannot help myself talking to the eagles right along with you!!!
God bless you for everything that you do!!!🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Deb, we appreciate your interest
I love how these animals are absolutely deadly killers and can tear you apart with their talons, but as soon as you get a hold of their feet, they're like: 'okay I guess you got me, I will just chill here then'
They just want to get away and get back to the wild.
Thank You for taking care. May God bless You abudantly 😇🌈
Thank you Miia, we appreciate your interest
I can't believe the way that bird was so content when you held him...I hope he does well

Do eagles eat that much in one meal?!! Woww!!! No wonder they are so efficient regarding mice population control!! Bless you Martin
Thank you Celina. This eagle was in need of a good meal and is underweight.
@Andievo4U2 Yes, that practice is known as "biological control" so you don´t need to use poison and other harmful options. Domestic animals and man inclusive can be contaminated by poison and other artificial chemicals. Far better to use the natural link of the ecosystem´s food chain ...
What a fine man to take care of these majestic animals. Obviously loves his work and his patients!
Subscribing! I'm looking forward to seeing your updates on this one. Hope the bird makes it. It will be so cool to see this one fly free.
Thanks for the Sub Steven! We're looking forward to this one's release too! So far, he's doing okay, We'll have some short video footage of him getting posted tomorrow.
Thank you for everything you all do for these babies ❤️ you and your wife are angels. 🦋❤️
Thank you for your interest
You both have amazing hearts. I have loved eagles for years and I'm so glad to see that someone takes care of the undernourished and weak or sick. God bless you both and all of your volunteers!
Thank you for your interest and support
We hope they make the best of it
thank you for taking care of these magnificent raptors, i found a white arctic owl flying toward a roof top up in upper east side Manhattan. ran up to the roof and found him on floor against wall. i was glad nobody saw him and went to a friend i knew in building and got a baby blanket and found carboard box . i had no fear i gently walked up and it seems he wnted my help. h i wraapped him and he was upset at first but i looked straight at him and did bird acting like my king pigeon i found and talked and cooed and he gentled up. i called the bronx zoo and they sent people over to take him i kept in touch and the care takers kept in touch with me , i was happy they did, b/c i was falling in love with it, but knew it would be wrong to keep him, he was lost and mal nourished, he bounced back and i was told he would be sent back to his natural envirnment, it still boggles me how he came to east spanish Harlem and i found west about a mile in nj was the NJ wet lands and i saw two stalk like birds in east harlem flying straight toward the wet lands so maybe white arctic owls do have man encroachment probs and got sick from looking for a new place to live like in the wetlands, but that is just my thought.
Man look at those claws on him !!! Man does he have an appetite !!!!!
When I was a kid I use to catch all kinds of wildlife.
I caught Coppers Hawks
Sparrow Hawks. Barn owls.
Once I caught a barn owl and was so excited by the adventure.
As I was walking home I looked down and my hand was covered in blood!!! The “talons” were so sharp I didn’t even feel it rip my hand open !!! 1973. LoL.
God bless you! I just found your channel and I can't stop watching it
Thanks Katrina, great to hear!
Thank you Martin for this compelling story and rescue. Do you think this young white belly juvie will be banded before you release him? You do amazing work - thank you Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah!
Thanks for your interest. We usually do not band the animals we release. He'll be here quite awhile, so things may change.
Would love to see this guy stay this color and pass those gorgeous genes on. Tonight I'm watching UA-cam trying to keep calm. Hurricane Dorian is scheduled to hit us on Monday. Hope all our nests stay safe. 🦅❤🦅
You are doing a fantastic job, Glad to know someone really cares for these beautiful birds of prey.
Terry. UK
Thank you Terence, a whole lot of people help us help critters!
I'm looking forward to seeing this fellow progress. Like #723.
So are we!
I love that the golden eagle came down to sit with him a few times.
