You guys that are critical of this very stressful situation need to understand a few things. The temp outside was around 35 degrees. The hole was pretty small, just big enough for the horse to be vertical. Rocky ground makes quick digging very difficult, even with a backhoe. His legs were stuck around the underground pipe so simply lifting him out was impossible. Untacking the horse would have been extremely difficult, dangerous, and freezing. The minute the horse's head submerges, the horse would have died. Keeping the bridle on was very important to keeping his head out of the water. The dog that was "abused" and hit was getting too close to Joe and needed to back off. A dog that close to a drowning horse was making a very stressful situation for Joe even more stressful. Dogs are predators and horses are prey. Dogs stress horses out. The rider told me that he had never been so cold in his life. This could have been a catastrophe. Thank goodness for careful and quick thinking. I would love to see you critics jump in your backhoe with nothing but lassos and navigate a very stressful situation like this in under 20 minutes. There wasn't time to gather up the dogs, get a good plan together, find tow straps, and go scuba diving with a thrashing horse in a tiny rocky hole. The horse would have died without fast action. This is a raw, authentic, uncut, unplanned effort to save a horse. Was everything done perfect? Pretty close. Nobody was hurt and the horse is doing great.

Ребята всем вам низкий поклон за спасение этого лошади , вы совершили героизм, спасибо огромное вам и всех благ вашим семьям и всем тем кто участвовал в спасении этого красавца !
Kudos to everyone involved - including the one holding the camera! So dramatically engaging, emotional and riveting. Big Joe seemed completely exhausted at the end. And I particularly got a kick out of him "kissing the ground" at 14:40. As Bugs Bunny said: "Terra foima at last!"
That was some absolutely genius problem solving. Congratulations. That perseverance saved that horses life. Anyone faulting your efforts here clearly do not appreciate the situation.
I am Aussie and have nothing but admiration for all farmers and your ranchers who work on the land. How they can be so precise and gentle with giant machinery is beyond this city slicker to comprehend. Truly amazing.😊
This was AMAZING! Big Joe looked so calm because he knew he was in the best hands. Watching you navigate every moment made me realize how much skill it takes to pull off a rescue like this! Who else was totally invested from start to finish? 👏

I can't believe anyone could actually criticize this. This was a helluva save---that saturated ground was like quicksand. That horse nearly went under.
It is amazing how calm these draft breeds are in a crisis. On another channel, a draft horse fell down into a well that nobody knew was there. Just a rotten board covering the hole up. The neighbor showed up with a bobcat and the owner went down into the well and made a sling out of logging straps. They pulled the horse up and over the lip of the well. The horse stood up and gave a big shake and walked off, like it was a normal days activity. So thankful this rescue was successful! I look forward to seeing everyone at the shoeing! Thanks for showing how its done!
My last horse was a draft cross. No fancy breeding, probably one of those PMU foals. But man, he was calm, smart, and loved his people. We got into some messes and he was like 'the humans are here, they'll figure this crap out'. I wouldn't of traded that horse for anything.
@cherylmillard2067 I think Jim Gordon was given a copy of the Budwiser Clyadales wreak at the San Antonio Texas Fat Stock show. Watch that, too. It was also amazing! They were trying to do this fancy turn, and one of the wheel horses got tangled in the harness and fell on his side. The entire team, 7 horses, stopped without being told to and stood perfectly still. They didn't even swish their tails! The grooms looked like ants and sprinted out there. They unhooked the standing horses and led them calmly away. They removed the harness from the fallen horse and then asked him to stand up, which he did. There was great cheering, and the horse marched out like he owned the place. These horses are so smart and sensible! I am still amazed at all of these rescues and thankful to the people who shared them!
😆Ya know it's the same thing with horses and dogs. The smaller they are, the more feisty and sassy they are, while the bigger and biggest ones always want to sit in your lap! You can take a Shetland pony, or a chihuahua and they act and think they are 10 ft. tall and billy bad a##, while a great big draft horse, a Great Dane, Mastiff, Akita, Shepard all think they can lay in your lap to cuddle!
My heart melted at 13:01 when you heard the other horse being happy. "My buddy is safe". For you not familiar to horses, that is exactly the same sound that our horses have when we come to give them food in the morning. A general sound of happiness.
I am so touched by this display of LOVE and RESCUE for everyone involved in saving this horse. Nothing more than I can say. I am still processing the miracle.
All creatures know when people are working for their benefit. They trust. I see this with my goats. Bless you for your efforts and thinking on your toes in what was a serious circumstance. Thank God you had the resources. Beautiful beautiful horses and country. 🙏❤️🙏
And the farmers were so calm and professional. I love the understated "Let's go home" at the end. Just another day on the farm. We had sheep; they were always looking for new and creative ways to try to die.

Big Joe had my heart from the very beginning, when the bucket of the excavator was lowered next to his head and his first reaction was to put his nose on it: "hello, what are you? Are you here to help me?" Such a sensible horse and he worked with the humans the whole time to get himself out of trouble. I look forward to seeing a video of Big Joe getting his winter shoes if possible. Pretty please with rainbow sprinkles?
This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen: raw uncut LOVE. You would have done anything to save your horse. Not because he is of high value to you or makes incredible contributions but simply because you love him and didn't want to see a priceless life end. This is like what our Savior does. He makes every effort to rescue us. He paid the ultimate sacrifice to do this. Imagine one of these ranchers giving up his or her life to save Joe! That's what Jesus did and the level of love he has for us. And what we as his followers do for others: make every effort to rescue others simply because we love them. Thank you for blessing our lives with this priceless view of pure love. ❤❤❤

And when someone yelled Back Up, it tried to back up. It wanted to help so badly.
I noticed that, too. Even the other horse knew this was a bad situation.

What channel was that rescue on? I'd like to watch it.
@@brissygirl4997 Working Horses with Jim.
