In late August of 2018, a very weak and starved Golden Eagle arrived at our rescue center. When Martin first saw her, the eagle was very thin and barely conscious. Upon arrival to the rescue center, she was given fluids and food then placed in a dark and quiet chamber to begin healing.
For the first few days of her stay, Martin continued to feed her and check on her progress. There were some positive signs, but it would still be many days before she would show sure signs of recovery.
Once she began feeding herself, she was moved to a larger chamber and left alone as much as possible. She stayed with us for 32 days.
This eagle recovered and was released back to the wild where she belongs.

🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
🔹Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release 🔹
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
🔹 Informing, Educating and Inspiring 🔹
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
🔹 Martin Tyner 🔹
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.
In late August of 2018, a very weak and starved Golden Eagle arrived at our rescue center. When Martin first saw her, the eagle was very thin and barely conscious. Upon arrival to the rescue center, she was given fluids and food then placed in a dark and quiet chamber to begin healing.

Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah love your channel mate, you do an amazing job for such beautiful majestic creatures... props to you sire... 🇬🇧
Your compassion is only matched by your knowledge and skill. 40 years as a rescuer, that is impressive. So, add tenacity to the list.
Im a Native American Indian and i just wanna thank for what you do for our sacred eagles its hurts when i see our sacred birds go thru this but i know there safe in your hands and i love how compassionate and loving you are with them and again thank you so much for caring for our sacred birds thanks alot and many blessings to u...
Thank you for your interest
A very kind blessing. They are so beautiful, it is sad to see them injured, and it is nice that people appreciate what some people seem born to do in caring for them. I'm thinking about what I can do to help. Blessings to you, too.

I agree with you. This man needs a Indian name.
@@bravenumberone he should have an indian name
I'm a biologist and I can attest from my own experience that the work this man does is both gratifying and heart breaking. We were out once bird banding and a kestrel got caught in our mist nets. It was previously tagged by other researchers, but the tag was applied improperly and had completely cut off circulation. Poor girl was flying for over a year with a rotted leg. When we went to try to remove the tag, the entire leg came off like a Lego. She stayed with us for about 3 hours, we fed her, then she got much more lively and flew up to a nearby tree. She was acting healthier that day, and we saw her many more times over the following seasons. She was easy to spot based on her one leg. We opted to not tag her again when we caught her the following year. She was healthy and happy far as we could tell from when her leg came off. She adjusted to hunting with the single leg, don't know how, but she did it.
Wow, that is heartbreaking but a good ending. I wouldn't have been able to watch it.
Omg this poor bird flying and trying to survive with a leg rotting off of her body … my goodness 😪😪😪😪
Its good to hear that there was a good outcome but my goodness if ppl are involved in work like that, they darn well should know what they are doing !!!!!!
Wow that’s heart breaking. Does the tag have to be on the legs, could not be made adjustable on bee their next or like a vest?
That's so amazing!
Thank you for this story & your work 🕊
16:55 The love and compassion in this man's eyes is incredible. Bless you sir, you are the good in this world.
Thank you for your interest
whoever said forced feeding is bad......it is life saving.....he is a saint for eagles
Wow! The compassion and gentleness of this man is so touching, I'm moved to tears. The eagle knows he's helping him. Thank you for sharing. I'm so happy he recovered and returned to the wild! God bless you! ❤️
Martin, I was just going to say there is no way you need to apologize for how you look. I'm concentrating on what you are telling us and on wonderful job you do saving the lives of these beautiful proud birds. I admire you and your work.
Im sat here with tears in my eyes. I can feel the love this man has for this eagle. I believe the eagle knows the man is helping him and opening that huge sharp beak like a baby bird being fed by his mama. What a wonderful man you are.
Thank you Lorraine, the eagle was very sick and weak.
Yeah I am not gonna lie I am teary eyed too. I love animals. Worked with animals and rescued a few in my time as well. I never worked with big birds though. When I was a little girl I always wanted to work with big birds but just never got to it because my life went in another direction. I will say this though if I was in Utah I would volunteer if I could. I am glad that there are people who actually work with these deserving animals. Ty for doing what you do Southwest Wildlife Foundation Utah.
A few years ago i found a young baldie on the ground next to our town's little league fields. I called the game warden and helped keep other people back until rescue showed up. They caught her with a fishing net, put her in an animal Kennel and took off quickly. We got an update about two months later when they released her in the same field. We got to watch her fly off again. There wasn't a dry eye in the crowd.
Hi Laurie, thanks for sharing! Always good to hear about successful releases back to the wild!
Laurie Conway We did when she when she died we have a policy on each of them I don’t know she’s awfully young to think about that yeah because if it something it’s life insurance if you don’t have lights anymore then that’s all of the cupboards her life her being in an accident or something like that are pretty slim I wouldn’t do that that’s what I was thinking because she live they won’t stop that because they’re older age

I’m so proud of you and your beautiful appropriate response to that eagles ‘ needs!!! 💕 Iadora U!!!
I’m from the U.K. so don’t know. Can I ask why there are so many starving in the wild? It’s fantastic to see all the love and care you put into getting these beautiful birds well again.💕
There are a lot of ways things can go wrong in the wild
I love how he opens his mouth for more. So sweet.
It helps move food down
I almost cry when he released that girl eagle. He is a wonderful man. Thank you for saving those beautiful birds.
Hi Teresa, we like releases too!
Now, this what separates us from other creatures on this planet! When we lose this kind of compassion, we lose the meaning of our existence.
Well done sir, you are a compassionate veteran!
Thank you for your interest!
Many other creatures are showing compassion actually. It is not just humans.
@Shannon Rehwinkel Really?? You come on a wildlife rescue center video and comment that. So you want this guy to stop saving eagles and go save babies? If that cause means so much to you, you do it.
@Shannon Rehwinkel Well the evil GOP has managed to get Roe V Wade appealed. Hope you’re ready to open your home up and adopt babies from low income families. What’s next birth control? Despicable.
To anyone else reading this I would never normally bring up politics on a channel like this, but given what’s going on I broke my own rule. 😡🤬
@@QUEENBEE200384 … I was about to reply the exact same thing to @Shannon Rehwinkel asking how many children have they adopted… most likely none because it’s an inconvenience to them…….
sir, you are amazing. You should be given wildlife awards.
Thank you and he was recently awarded: ua-cam.com/video/TnNZuWTjJeI/v-deo.html
It's amazing how this juvenile eagle openly accept help from a human.
It's a sign of how sick she was. Martin much prefers when they fight with him.
Not sure why, but I cried when he set her free... Thank you sir for educating me on Eagles
Releases are the best part!
It's strange how the world is full of people who want to kill every creature and those who want to save every creature.
Thank god there are people like you in this world
We know a lot of people that like to help them! And we're very grateful for so much assistance!
I'm part of the save people. 25 bucks a month to help for food all this year 👍 I want to help with my own hands though. I don't know if I have the stomach for it if they can't be released.....

"Thumbs down"? How? Why? Saving an animal, any animal, should be a "Thumbs up", ALWAYS!!!!
Mike Oxbig I know, who the heck would not like this video?
Probably those dumbies that think it's, "interfering with nature". Same people that are fine interfering when it suits them. They clear cut habitat and build a home, roads and drive their car down the road and hit an Eagle. For every 1 person helping injured wildlife there are probably 1000 shooting things. Those people drive me nuts because it makes no sense to hate,"the healer of angels".
I'm not advocating interfering with natural predator/prey situations...but come on, how can you walk away from a starving litter of orphaned baby Arctic Foxes? You'd have to be a monster!
I apologise.. I'm happy life is being nice to other life. Earthlings that we are.
Totally agree Shame on the people whom have thumbed down. This man is a god send
I’ve watched a few videos and I think it’s so sweet the way he talks to these birds. You can tell he really cares with his whole heart!
Martin has found that a calm steady voice helps eases their stress somewhat.
I love that cute and awesome eagle opening his mouth like I want more mouse. This man is so kind to this wonderful bird.
Thanks for your interest. The eagle opens and closes like that to help move the food down.
The way he treats 20 lbs of Freedom Feathers makes my heart soar. Thank you for treating him like your big baby. They actually turn into babies when they are that ill.
Thank you for your interest
I love that he opens his mouth every time, like "More Please!!"
The opening and closing of their mouths helps to move the food down to their crops.
Thanks old man for showing us how important your work is. God bless you and give you many years of life. For a fan from Brazil.
Stumbled on the girl that didn't make it
...and cried

But then I watched this! You're a good man.
Eagles are the epitome of majestic.
Glad you saw another with a better ending
the way you are going to think about birds it shows you are nice and kind woman.
Just did the same thing. I have bald eagle nest near me and just love seeing these majestic creatures.
same :'( - me occiasionally saving blue tits. Two weeks ago a green serin sits on my garden completely frozen in the morning about 5 a.m. - Its luck I went up early. Just got it in with some water and food (those birds like herbs). It didn't ate anything but after 15mins it starts trying to fly around in my living room. So I caught it and put it outside into a save place (below my bushes of peas b/c the cold wind would make the bird freezing again). After further 15mins I was looking at the little fella and he starred at me for 10sec made a cute chirp and flew away - I was so touched. The little serin knew what I've done *sniff :) - for more complicated cases I 've got the phone number of a licenced falconer. I wouldn't dare to "handle" birds of prey. I know how to secure them and call the falconer :D
Same here
Martin, whatever I type here will be woefully inadequate to capture the level of admiration and pure awe that I hold for you. The efforts I've made in my own life to help or care for various critters pales in comparison to what you do an a daily basis. I can sense the same genuine love for these wild creatures in you that Steve Irwin conveyed. I am beyond grateful that someone like you exists. Humanity needs many, many more like you.
That's very kind of you to say. We appreciate your concern for the critters!

I love how he opens his mouth for more even if it’s bad bc he isn’t fighting back
Hi Alyssa, thanks for your interest. The eagle opens and closes his mouth to help with swallowing. Unfortunately, he was too weak to give much fight.
I saved a runt finch 2 years ago. It was awesome. He was left off of food and water because it was too much work for the mother. So I watched them from my window in bush just outside. I started giving the babies water from a dropper then soaked meal 3 times a day. The runt go lots of water he was so badly dehydrated. Soon all the chicks took to flight. But the runt was too under developed. I brought him in at night and nursed the little guy. Just a day and a half later and he was ready. Soon his family returned
They were so excited! And the other chicks wanted to show him so much! But he only flew 30 ft and that was all he could do. So in the evening I had to catch him and bring him in feed and water him. The next day he was so much stronger and this time he flew off with his family. He would stop by and say hi when they passed by my house every other day! He would land on my eves and check me out and churp! Then go meet up with his family again. As if he was stopping to say hi! And thanks! Birds are such characters. But birds of prey are the most beautiful! Again good job Sir.
Chimp Chowder I agree on the water . We saved a ball of feather HAWK. My partner fed him like three or four glasses of water - unreal - like he was not even that big so he had to have been dehydrated.

Hi again! Oh Martin quite the story this one. She would have certainly died without you! Your tender care and 24/7 dedication is so very special. You are truly in a hero category of your own! A piece of the good side of the internet to bring us these stories we otherwise would never know a thing about. I've watched you long enough now to understand when you replied to me and what it meant to you to release them back to where they came. I really Felt that today watching you release her. Hi CC, thanks for watching a NEW one! ;-) Let's hope the second chance goes well!
Just beautiful, and as C C said, you're a hero! Thank you so much for who you are and what you do. My love, respect and support to you and your lovely wife, greetings from Toronto, Canada :))
I know of all the things like this thankfully we can experience these things at least a little bit through the internet, and all these darn kids/and people my age just care about tik tok, musically, Facebook, and whatever unimportant things in the world when we can see so much....
What a kind, gentle soul. God bless you.
I love to see it when they come back enough for their subconscious to kick in and they open wide after the first bite and signal you that they are ready for another bite of food. It's not a sign of tamely waiting to be fed, but probably a holdover from chickhood when they signal the parents to feed them. I noticed as soon as they become more conscious of their situation is when they begin to "fight" you feeding them and you can soon graduate them to "helping" themselves to the food. I love your videos, and watching you bring these birds back from the brink. I hope you can continue bringing us all this good education.
Sweet baby.....poor sweet baby. Watching you care for it brings teats of happiness. God Bless you and Thank You for being their for the animals......
I love the way this sweet baby opens her mouth for another bite like a baby bird...🤗😍😍
Hi, thanks for your interest and concern. She was having trouble swallowing, opening and closing her beak sort of helps in that process.

Thank you Lavinia! We're glad you found us too! Welcome London!
You won’t get any golden eagles in London though, here in the UK the golden eagle is mainly confined to parts of the Lake District of north west England and Scotland.
I am almost certain that you give freely, and do not anticipate a “thank you” ... However, you truly deserve a “thank you” and many more blessings for your admiration and dedication to saving these animals! I am so pleased to have watched this video and many other videos you have posted. May you be blessed, for all you do “ten times” more! You are absolutely amazing and by the way if these gorgeous birds could gossip -- I am certain it would be of you! If they could talk they would most definitely say “Thank you”! You make my heart smile ... Keep up the excellent work 🦅🦅🥰🥰🦅🦅
