Guys.. He just saved an owl from drowning, no need to bring up the "don't intervene with nature blahblahblah" statements. There is literally no down side to saving that owl from an unfortunate situation, if it was being hunted, the situation would have been different. It was stuck in a bush, they took time out of their day to help it out, big whoop. If you'd seriously just float on by while watching something drown to death without even batting an eye that's good for you. We have intelligence and empathy for a reason. Who cares if this animal wouldn't do the same for me? I'm sure there are plenty of humans who wouldn't do the same for me either, but that wouldn't deter me from saving said human from drowning, so why should it stop me from saving an owl?

This is the internet, people will always find a reason to complain. He would have got just as many negative comments, if not more if he'd left it to drown.

People are just regurgitating what they heard without thinking. Every living thing on this earth interferes with the other. When the lion steals a kill from the leopard, guess what, it just interferes. That's not much different from a person interfering. So it's not about interfering but preserving. We are so advanced that we can determine the fate of most species on earth (except the micro organisms that, ironically, can determine our fate!). That means we must know when to intervene and when not.

katrina lin If I looked right this are our neighbours Poland (Polen). We also have animal rescues here. You can call them. Once I found a baby squirrel. Or to be fair it crashed in stormy weather from a tree onto my umbrella. So it didn't broke it's neck. But it wasn' t in good conditions. :( So I called the animal rescue. Only problem was that they had a lot to do on this stormy day. I waited 3 hours with a tiny half naked squirrel that I put under my clothes cuz it was shaking from cold. When they arrived I was so happy.
If it would be possible every biggish town should have them. They run trough founding (Spenden).

My wife and I live near a golf course. One of the golfers saw a baby Barn Owl floundering around in the grass. It had a deformed (not broken) leg and spine. We could only guess that it fell (or was pushed) out of a nearby nest. It would have died right there at the golf course if not rescued. Through social media, the golfer contacted my wife and asked if she could care for it until it could fly. So we agreed to take it in. Vets would not treat it because they are not licensed to treat raptors. This owl was a female and we named her Clover. She was so young she still had the white fuzzy feathers. We knew she would have no chance surviving in the wild. We made a home for her here. We fell in love with her and she with us. For the next four months we raised her the best we knew how. We fed her two medium size mice in the morning and two at night. We'd buy 100 frozen mice, thaw them out and warm them up. Clover would absolutely gobble those mice. Her deformed leg had a clenched talon. She could not catch and hold a live mouse with only one functional talon. Plus, her deformed leg always kept her off balance. After about four months, she stopped eating. Two days later she died on my wife's lap. She was barely breathing and finally took her last breath. She became such a part of our lives. She had such a personality. She loved sitting on our lap while we stroked her neck. She never bit us, but she would give us little love nibbles. She loved her life. Our hearts are absolutely broken.

Many birds, like this owl, cannot take off from the water; their wings do not create the lift needed. They need to jump, or drop, into flight. He surely would have died left in the water. He was rather complacent, an indication he was not doing well, so I am glad that they called an animal rescue for rehabilitation.

I don't think that the joking comments I saw were intended to mock or belittle the owl itself, I believe the comments were intended more as a comic relief of sorts, about the situation. True, the owl kept trying to fly away, because it is a wild creature, but it was also obviously in distress and exhausted. So the people were trying to help it, and it would get a little bit rested and try to escape from the strange humans. It is a little bit humorous, given that it was trying to "escape" from the very help it needed, and I am confident that all of us are glad that the owl survived, and that a wildlife rescue service was called and took the bird to care for it. As for the comments that people thought we should leave wildlife alone, I think in general this is a correct behavior, however, the animal was tired and in distress, and could be saved. So, why not save it? I am sure, that if God (or Allah, or Buddha, or whom ever your "higher power" is) wants that animal to perish, then as mere humans our efforts will not succeed. I think that people should always try to help when and where they can, whether it's an animal, a human, or a plant. Don't hurt or destroy something just to prove that you can. Besides, if we people are natural beings, then if our instincts are to be helpful, then is that not a natural act?

Second, some people are mean with animals (I know what I'm saying) so no, everyone would not do that. I'm an animal lover and I too would have tried to save it if I was there. I always feel very glad when people are kind with animals and even if animals are most of the time grateful for saving them, saying thank you in place of them won't kill me. Btw I don't say thank you on every video, but I feel the need to say it here.

A good tip would be to loosely wrap it in a coat to both help it to get warm/dry and to keep it calm (cover its head). If you or any one reads this and happens to need to rescue a large bird. Also, a good way to hold them is by the ankles, with their back to your chest, as I’m sure you figured out their feet are razor sharp. If you recieved any cuts, be sure to wash then we’ll and use antibiotic ointment. Thank you for your compassion!

im glad he was saved. and for those in the comments going oh its so stupid or what not, while its true owls have sacrificed some intelligence for better eyesight and hearing, this is not the reason the owl kept jumping into the water. to it the people saving him were bigger predators who were targeting it in its weakest moment when its feathers were so waterlogged it couldn't fly away. and so it panicked. i also think it might have been going into shock as unlike other barn owls ive worked with at the wildlife center it did not hiss, or fake lunge for a bite or even try to bite. most barn owls have this defense mechanism where they spread their wings and do this little head wobble when they feel threatened by something and if you press it they will lunge at you as a bluff though its very rare they actually bite. this one however was making no noise and no attempts to act defensively. most likely cause it was exhausted but like i said i think it might possibly have been going into shock. the only thing i really can say i wish they had done differently was wrap the owl gently in a towel or shirt and place something over its eyes to keep it calm while in the boat. owls and other birds of prey are very sensitive to stimulation especially regarding eyesight and hearing. while you cant do anything about the hearing, having something over their eyes helps block out anything that would cause them stress. and wrapping them gently in a towel like how i suggested prevents them from thrashing about and potentially hurting themselves worse or even hurting you. lastly if you ever come across something like this please find your nearest wildlife center and call them or bring the bird to them as at least in the US it is illegal to keep native birds without a license due to them being protected by law. Most wildlife centers will have a phone number you can call and they will give you further directions on what to do from there.

idk could have lead pensioning, 3 years ago i saved a bald eagle from drowning while i was duck hunting and acted just like this owl. we called fish and game and the police station and the operator literally told me to kill the bird just don't do it publicly. So, i kept the eagle and fed it duck meat and fish for about 2 weeks, then we got ahold of some amazing wildlife reufge to come and pick him up, we named him bob saget and he was the nicest bird ive ever had. i tought him to sit on my shoulder and he would love to hang with us. instagram.com/p/BcFsPECAiIV/? that is him

    • @ShadowFox1412
      @ShadowFox1412 3 роки тому

@@levy5808 that could get you in major trouble as those birds are protected by law. Next time that happens take it immediately to your wildlife center. The centers have people who are trained to take care of those birds while limiting human interaction and reliance so that they may be eventually released back into the wild.
Furthermore keeping feathers or anything from a bird of prey can also get you in serious trouble as well.

Just watched the footage of the beautiful owl being rescued and the gentleman should be thanked in my eyes. I see a lot of people getting quite agitated with their views below strangely . The man may have held the Bird incorrectly or maybe he should have just left him. Personally I feel he did a great deed and he handed the Bird to an animal rescue service by the end of the clip so even if that little owl had an injured wing he has another opportunity to get better and get back out there doing all the things owls do best. Without these lovely people out there helping to look after our wildlife and protect it our wildlife would be worse off without them. Not all our wildlife will be as lucky as that little owl. That's life unfortunately but he will have an opportunity to get back in the wild and that's brilliant.

+Isabel Goss, barn owls are everywhere pretty much except for Antarctica. However, they originated from Europe. The two best known races are the Barn Owl of Europe, and the North American Barn Owl. In North America, the barn owl inhabits almost every state. They are most common along the eastern seaboard states, the Gulf states, and the entire west. www.barnowlbox.com/barn-owl-biology/. I would look up some more, but I really don't have the time! If you can find something else about this, please post it as my curiosity has been raised! We do have barn owls in America, I have seen them all my life. Not often, mind you, but sometimes. :-)

About 4 decades ago there were only about 100 couples of these owls left in our country. Thanks to the help of researchers and volunteers there are about 2500 couples in the Netherlands these days. Migration, reproduction and survival are carefully monitored. Therefore this one has a leg ring. The Barn owl is on our "red list" which meas that it's endangered and/or needs special attention. The use of DDT in the past almost wiped them out over here.

You did a good deed there, did you go and visit the vet to see the owl? I believe in it's own way the owl knew you helped him and probably appreciated it deep down. Although he was probably scared of the new people you handed him over too to begin with and the vet, once he recovered he probably realised everyone handling him helped.

Lots to think about here. Depending on how long the bird's been in the water it could be hypothermic and needs to warm-up. It also needs to dry out before it can fly. Finally, it could be malnourished and needs to be fed. It's also possible it's a young bird still being fed by its parents. In any event you finally held it correctly. When you're not sure, call a local wildlife recovery center and they will help you. That said, you did a fantastic job saving the bird's life.

Jack Armitage I’m 56 and still growing to manhood, so I don’t mean that to be talking down to you, when I say this. But as you grow to manhood, take some time to live among rural people. Yes, with farmers, but not only farmers. Take the time to live with people in tiny rural communities among people who depend on the environment for their food. PETA will tell you that those people are evil because they kill animals in order to eat, but it’s way more complicated than that. The people who eat wild rabbits will also risk their lives to rescue a wild rabbit that got into a sticky situation. Or an owl, even. That attitude is something that urban kids need to learn. I hope, as your life unfolds, that you get to learn these things and don’t just stay in your own culture in your own part of the world as though the rest of the world didn’t exist. All the best for your life, young man.

Dumb people think that saving animals is “against the natural order” which is so stupid because they’re acting like humans aren’t part of nature??? Like we’re not some higher beings. And if nature was so delicate then it would have collapsed a long time ago, there is nothing unnatural or wrong about an animal saving another since humans are just another species of, totally natural, animal.
Don’t get me wrong we totally destroy ecosystems and stuff but the fact that it’s been decades of us wrecking nature and it’s still not “broken” yet should be a sign that we really don’t need to worry about a handful of people in CITIES, where animals have literally evolved to interact with humans better, are helping other creatures.

You’re not accounting for the talons and cutting beak, for one. That could be dangerous. It depends on the type of bird. Every avian vet I’ve gone to with my large macaw grabs her around the neck-because if you put too much pressure on their chest by holding there they cannot fill their air sac lungs-so they can die that way from not being able to breathe properly. It sounds crazy because you’d think the same thing with their necks-but somehow they still breathe fine when you hold them there.
